Most glorious movie scene of all time

Most glorious movie scene of all time - 11/24/14 01:39 AM

There can be no other.

This is just epic, there is no other word for it. I like to think that in a hundred years, people watching this for the first time will still get shivers down their spines.

Yeah, that is a hell of a complicated scene there Ajay, really tough to watch. Not that bloody, but incredibly real and graphic.

I'm also shock/frozen by the Normandy beach landing, from Saving Pvt. Ryan...

I've been there too, some years ago and the quiet of the place is deafening.

Yep SPR and the opening of Top Gun

I like the massive battle scenes from Waterloo. Amazing what they could do in the days before CGI.

I also love seeing the tanks in this Czech film from the 50s.

Re: Most glorious movie scene of all time - 11/24/14 10:22 AM

The charge of the Rohirrim at Pelennor reminds me of the charge on Beersheba in "The Lighthorsemen." Pelennor was definitely of a much greater scope, but the build-up was in the speech and not the charge. Seeing those 2 Australian regiments charge across a couple kilometers of open ground was something else, even if the defenders didn't open fire until too late.

Another I really like is in "A Bridge Too Far," when the British trooper who swam the Rhine is told by general Sosebowski "tell your general we're coming." Those 5 words said it all!

"Waterloo" is such a great film. Rod Steiger WAS Napoleon.

'You're Gonna Need a Bigger Boat'

Scheider ad-libbed that famous line.

Don't know if it's no 1 in my ranking but it's definitely top 5

Personally, as a kid watching Vader save Luke and throw the Emperor into the abyss was probably #1. The brilliant Williams score just nailed it.

For memorable, don't forget John Hurt's death in Alien. smile

The entire audience erupted in a big cheer during that scene in ROTJ. I was 10 years old when I watched ROTJ in the theatre and it still feels like it was yesterday.

The best, and maybe the longest, threat on film.

I'm glad someone mentioned the movie Waterloo and Rod Steiger's performance of Napoleon. I wish he had made a whole series of movies on the Napoleonic wars.

Re: Most glorious movie scene of all time - 11/24/14 07:08 PM

I found the bits with Nappy and Wellington a bit dull personally. It was the battle scenes filmed on such an epic scale that really stood out for me. It's a shame that they decided to throw in the pyrotechnic fireball effects for the cannon rounds during the charge of the Scots' Greys though.

I remember how brutal this was when Saving Private Ryan first was in the theaters. It was a whole new level of realism and graphicness beyond what we had seen before.

Good stuff. Love that scene too Semmern. I also love Panzer's but through to the end with the music and as they make it into Fort Sumter. So many good ones out there.

I won't (and don't know how to) add clips:

1) Roxanne Pallett's nude/mucky scene in Lake placid 3. jawdrop jawdrop

2) Roxanne Pallett's nude/mucky scene in Wrong Turn 6 :Last resort. jawdrop

3) Nikki Sanderson's 'nude' scene in Boogeyman 3. thumbsup

Have I said how much I hate bubbles in baths in which Nikki Sanderson is lying naked?

I won't post a link because you have all seen it, and because, well, I'm lazy....but....

A New Hope, when Luke is standing outside the farm at dusk watching the twin suns of Tatooine Setting over the dune sea, with John Williams score rising and falling behind it all. That scene represents everything I love about cinema.

From 2:20 to 6:30, in Dolby surround and wide screen stereo, where
you can hear the pebbles clatter from the waves crossing from one
side of the screen to the other, full volume HQ audio (and of course
understanding the context in the arc of the story):

Many good one's here ...

Only need to go to about the 6 min mark though if you wish.

I'm glad my choice was in that montage smile because it's not a very well-known war movie.

I think these 2 scenes just ooze glory, as well.
