New 1911 Goodness

New 1911 Goodness - 12/23/13 04:36 PM

Picked up a "bucket list" pistol!
This is a Springfield Armory EMP 9mm (Enhanced Micro Pistol)
Basically, SA took the 1911 design, and reduced it in size/scale to specifically design it for the 9mm cartridge. (Also comes in S&W .40)

Pictures #1 & #2:
First time to shoot the pistol. This is 22-25', and I shot either 21-28 rounds. (Can't remember!)

Picture #3:
Went out yesterday, 2nd time to try it.
Same distance, 22-25'. 2 7-round groups. "Little Man" is first group. Red circle is 2nd group.
That round above the box, and also the one below my red circle, were Not in those groups.
I like this pistol. biggrin

Nice grouping. Is that a plinker or for carry? Looks like later....usually carry are no fun to shoot at all.

Nice! Is the slide brushed stainless or Nickel/other finished? The two tone auto's are beginning to grow on me.

Looking at the wall and ceiling I'm amazed at the number of really bad shots that have been there previously.

Sim: Carry
FO: Aluminum anodized frame; stainless steel slide with satin finish
JM: Because people have crappy finger discipline. AMAZED at how most can't keep their booger finger off the trigger until it is time to shoot.

I'll admit it, I'm very inexperienced when it comes to guns. I've fired one maybe a dozen times in my life of various types. Yet even I know I never touch the trigger until I'm aiming at what I'm shooting at!

That and never look down the barrel from the far end, LOL!

Very very nice!
I will own a Range Officer before the end on 2014

Jedi,
I noticed the same thing, not so sure I would feel safe shooting in that range.

Nice shootin' Bill.
My daughter carries a Kimber .45 cal., and that looks surprisingly similar to it.

Also shoots surprisingly accurate for a short barrel weapon.

That is nothing. At a local range we have "wood boxes" for each shooting position with a bench/shooting position in it. There are holes all over the ceiling and walls, just feet away from the bench/standing position.

Pretty pistol Bill. That first grouping is tight.

This pistol is sweetness!
This Thursday I should be able to do a range report on my "new Toy" that y'all haven't seen. ;-)

So, last night when you said you were going shooting I forgot to ask...What?

Beautiful pistol and very nice shooting. I have been looking at the Colt Defender .45 which is also looks very similar.

EMP's, Kimber's, Colt Defender's---and I recently bought a cheap-ass Citadel compact made in the Philippines. It's like you guys all got Infinities and I bought a Kia. notworthy

Of course, with the money I saved, I got something ultimately more practical---a flintlock musket biggrin

How do you like the bobtailed grip, Iht645? And which company built it? Those grips are lovely.

Re: New 1911 Goodness - 01/04/14 07:22 PM

It's a Dan Wesson V-Bob with a set of "Sarges" stag horn grips. I like the bob tail, can't feel the difference in my hand and it doesn't print under a shirt.

I also have a Kimber Ultra Carry... My favorite 1911. I tried it out at a range in Delaware in 2000 on the suggestion of the guy who owned the gun shop/range. A used model, out of the box, shooting significantly better and more accurately than the Springfield 1911 I brought with me... I bought one on the spot and have loved it ever since. It's only drawback is capacity, but I just carry two extra magazines... If I can't get the job done with that much ammo... I don't belong in the fight. smile

Looks like a great little 1911 Bill! Does it shoot well with 9mm? I've always thought that the only thing that could be possibly better with 9mm than a Sig P226 or P229 would be a 1911 that shot 9mm and was scaled as such. That 1911 trigger is just a PERFECT trigger... Straight back, no hinge effect... Maybe they could double stack and get more rounds in the box than just 7... I just always thought that would be a great thing.

So... How many rounds? What are the ergonomics like? Does she FEEL right?

Re: New 1911 Goodness - 01/04/14 10:25 PM

I almost hate to admit this....but my daughter 'almost' outshoots me with her Kimber, and I use my Colt 'Series 70'. My barrel is longer, I think it gives me an edge, and I've been shooting it for 35 years...... wink

Hope your as happy with yours, as she is with her Kimber.

And Skater.....if you need more than one clip from a .45 Cal.....it's not human....run.

Re: New 1911 Goodness - 01/04/14 10:33 PM

Scooter, you tell me what you think! wink

I took out my friend, who was shooting my rifles in the last round of pictures, to shoot her new SIG 1911 .22 today. We went to the indoor range (too cold and windy outside) and she shot her gun and did real well. In fact, she outshot every one else on the range.
Then I got out the EMP. This it her first time shooting it, at 22', and only her third time to any range. (she is a good student!)
I was VERY impressed, and also the EMP is a stellar gun. Outstanding accuracy, for a barrel that is only 3" long.

Oh, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY WEEK, Bubba! biggrin

Re: New 1911 Goodness - 01/04/14 10:39 PM

Skater, the first 5 shots she did (in center), the other 3 (top, right) is when she got excited and started looking at her last shot and not the front sight. Had she not done that, I suspect ALL would have been in the X ring.

By far, the NICEST gun I have ever fired.

Standard Mag = 9, +1 chambered and you are set.
The Flush Mag = 8 rounds.
Even with your Man Hands, you can hold this pistol correctly. I don't know how they did it!
