B-24 nosewheel collapse.. - 05/27/12 06:35 PM

Guess there is a P-51, B-29, and B-24 in town this weekend in Charlotte for the holiday. I was at work yesterday and saw the B-24 take off. It came back around for a pass down the runway then trundled off to the east after extending the landing gear. I guess they were going out to work on getting it cranked down. Nice job even though the nosewheel collapsed. Damage looks minimal..

Glad there seems to be little damage.

I saw a B-24 fly over my location just a week or so ago. Could have been the one based near Dallas, it's webpage said it was at Washington DC for an airshow just a day or two later, and it was headed that direction. A spectacular sight and sound.

Yes..I believe the planes are on loan from the country of Texas.. biggrin The pilots probably ate too much Carolina BBQ and caused the nosewheel to collapse. One too many hushpuppies..

Most Texans are completely revolted by Carolina barbecue.
I happen to like it,but they are definitely 2 different animals.

This was common during the war. The nosewheel was very weak.

That's not one of the Cavanaugh's, I don't believe. The biggest thing they have is a C-47.

It was the Commemorative Air Force's B-24 "Diamond Lil."
