What's your posting style now compared to when you started?

What's your posting style now compared to when you started? - 05/30/11 03:24 PM

Here at SimHQ.

Me, when I first really started posting, it was mostly in the LOMAC Forum, and to be honest, I was a smart ass. I liked to push people a little, probably more than I should have. At the same time, I did a good bit of creative writing, and if I do say so, it was good stuff. Every once in a blue moon, I'll go back in the archives and re-read what I did, and I still get a chuckle. Ego, I know.

I used to push people with my "flashing beacon" bits and stories. Mailman, for one, got really sick and tired of that stuff, but of course, that did not deter me.

Today, I think, hope, that I'm a little more refined. I don't try to prod anybody, and I try to keep my posts short and readable.

How about you?

I think way back when my posts were probably distributed more evenly....there were lots of Jane's based titles...falcon in its prime etc...

Nowadays I don't have much time for Sims..

So my posts are mostly in community halll

When I first started posting, I relied mostly on the sinker. But these days, I tend to default to a good curve, if I don't go with the heat.

I also think my posts have become less nihilistic and more existentialist.

Cheers!

It seems I'm still posting the same rubbish in the same way since 2002...

The only "sim" I've played in the past 3 or 4 years is Joint Ops, and it doesn't have a dedicated forum or much of a presence in other forums. So for that reason most of my posting is in CH as well, with forays into EMDOWIHYPP, Books, and Outer Space.

When I started my style was younger...now eleven years later, for some reason it is older...a real mystery...

That is strange Hank. I have no explanation, but I do enjoy your posts.

Found this place through IL-2 and have been around so long to that I forget how I have changed.

Looking back on my 10 years on SimHQ I really don't see any discernable change in my posting style. I've always just been "me".

Started out in the EAW and Red Baron forums. My first posts were always of a technical nature or about how I was able to improve the sim. I then opened up a bit and started to post a few screenies or after action reports. It's only recently that I've ventured in to the community hall and, god forbid, the current events forum. I'm a diplomatic person by nature (when sober) but every now and then I'll put on the devil's advocate gloves or just speak from the heart with my posts.

I tend to be a little crazy sometimes also, I think I got a few threads closed and locked in the lock on forums. with 39,000 post, you lived on these forums! I haven't posted that much, but I do think I slowed down some.

Re: What's your posting style now compared to when you started? - 05/31/11 07:57 AM

I joined and started posting in the IL-2 forum to answer questions about IL-2 1946. Within a three weeks I was already posting in Community Hall wheras I thought, until I checked my posting history, that it was a few months before I migrated into CH. As far as posting style I think it's been the same since I joined. I try to be pleasant and helpful with a bit of mischievousness thrown in once in a while to keep things fun. Now my posting frequency might have increased a little bit. biggrin

I thought you used to be a little bit of country but now you're a little bit more of rock n roll?

I steer clear of the WCE nowadays.

Re: What's your posting style now compared to when you started? - 05/31/11 12:54 PM

I've always been the same. Not literally every day, but "on average" a post I made 10 years ago will differ little from one I make now. Of course, back then you could read every new post in every forum in about 30 minutes. smile

I don't know that I have any particular "style" either. Frankly, if I stumble across a post I made in the past, even as recently as a month, I tend not to recognize it as mine until I see the name!

As for WCE, I can't stand "wingers" so I don't go there. A "winger" is anyone who thinks 95% of "their side" is right and 95% of the "other side" is wrong, even when it's the same thing! So a politician accused of having an affair is "a corrupt douche" if he's on the "other" party but a "good guy with a moment of weakness" in their own. Of course, then I get accused of "sitting on the fence" as if the only options are to be on one side or the other! I hate those people because those of us in the center don't fit into their perfect little black and white view of the cosmos, so it's easier to dismiss me as a "fence sitter." That implies I haven't made up my mind, but that's wrong. I have. I've decided they're BOTH wrong.

I got here like several others - through EAW.

I guess I do more humorous posting in Community Hall now.

You have a sense of humor? wink

That's not what I said. I don't have a sense of humor. I just get some friends to come-up with humorous things for me to post. I just type.

Does this count my account I had before this one that was magically unregistered somehow and lost to me forever taking my title, post count and all that with it or just this one?

When I registered at SimHQ as "Digital-Overload", it was for Strike Fighters Project 1, and it was about the end of the golden era were Babbages => EBGames/GameStop had walls of PC Games in the store, and a large chunk would be flight sims (Mainly Jane's). Was here to join the modding community of the freshly released Strike Fighters title and basically never posted outside of the SFP1 Section, then my account was unregisted (databse glitch? or a sneaky mod?), so i re-registered, and kept going as if nothing ever happened.

Recently took a lil bit of hiatus while personal/family stuff took over, and when I came back, I was posting more in Hardware/Software forums, Community Hall, and looking at the PlanePorn in the Event Photography Section.....

I was a smart ass as well, wait a minute "was" implies past tense, Im still a smart ass and at times very annoying.

I still have my "fans" and my "haters". I Think and hoped I've matured a Little bit in 12 years though... (can anyone thats known me that long provide some feedback?, yes, no, maybe?

I don't know what happened to your account. We had a series of software upgrades and it's possible, if you hadn't posted in a while that your account got scrubbed. But we didn't do it intentionally. Just about the only time we delete someones account is if they ask for it.

This is for Jedi Master:

"I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men whatever in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else where I was capable of thinking for myself. Such an addiction is the last degradation of a free and moral agent."

-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Francis Hopkinson, March 13, 1789

Re: What's your posting style now compared to when you started? - 05/31/11 11:14 PM

I mostly have and continue to post questions in specific forums to learn about a problem I'm having with a game or sim, but in community hall, I try to offer whatever knowledge about life and how to do things, although I have to watch sounding like a know-it-all. Some of that comes from teaching and not typing well, so I try to get it all said quickly. I think I am about the same most of the time, and always look at Bill Grant's wonderful jokes!
