P8P67 boot issues - 09/23/13 08:08 AM

Hi

My system (see specs below), a two-year old custom build is suddently having boot issues. When I try to boot, the CPU red light on the Mobo will come on, fans will start, HDDs and DVD Drive start to spin, but then nothing. No signlal to the screen, no beeps, nothing, not even a BSOD.

I can usually manage to get it to start after a few attempts. Some days it will boot on the first try. The problem started a while ago when the computer wouldn't wake up from sleep mode. When trying to get out of sleep, the computer would just shut down (fans stopping, all lights off, cold and dark) but (and that's the weird part) when I booted it up again, all active windows were still open.

I first asumed my aging system HDD was to blame, so I changed it, but it didn't fix anything.

When the system does run, it runs without a hitch, with no apparent hardware of software issues. I am able to access all functionalities and put stress on the the GPU and RAM with resources-hungry programs (running FSX and ArmA3 for several hours at a time)

What do you guys think ? Anyone experienced it before ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Nico

I had the same problem as you. Since it was a second hand purchase i replaced the internal battery but with no luck. After searched all over the web and trying different Bios updates with no avail I solved my problem changing my memory DIMMs from the recommended slots to another slots avaiable (I've 2x4GB DDR3). Since your system was working fine till now i don't believe it is a memory problem. Try to replace the internal battery. Good luck

I would pull out one thing at a time and replace and try to boot. Also a bad stick of memory, a bad PSU, a smoked CPU pin, a video card unseated or not getting a good connection on power, the list goes on and on.

I troubleshot a computer a few years ago and went through everything I could think of. Even replaced the PSU finally but then come to find out it was the plug on the back of the PSU was kind of finicky. Turns out it was the cord that goes from the wall that plugs into the back of the PSU.

Thanks for the input guys. What puzzles me is that when it does boot I am experiencing no abnormal behavior at all . Changing the battery doesn't seem to have helped.

When the computer is stuck in the no-booting zone, the red CPU LED comes on and stays on. Not sure what to make of that either...
