Commanding the Luftwaffe
The following are illustrated accounts of a single campaign (currently in progress), commanding the Luftwaffe during the Battle of Britain. I hope through these actual in-game accounts, people can better understand the depth of the campaign system in Battle of Britain II. It is truly without equal and just amazing to experience first hand.

RAID#1 and #2
Trading serious blows

RAID#3
Your trusted BF109's

RAID#4

Got a feeling that native English speakers have been raised with generally more smut in the diet than most Americans. ;\)

Finbarr Saunders is probably baffling to most of the world. Great British export.

Great video, Scott.

Re: Commanding the Luftwaffe - 12/28/06 10:46 AM

Lol \:\) Very true.

By the by, is the campaign in BoB2 easier to organise and run than the original? It's odd but I've never had any trouble running the MiG Alley campaign, but BoB1 has always befuddled me.

And what I want to try and do in BoB2 is to run the actual battle along as close to real occurrances as possible, using the day to day summaries provided by the Battle Of Britain Historical Society here:

Re: Commanding the Luftwaffe - 04/30/07 02:20 PM

That was an excellent AAR! Really enjoyed that. I've been slowly, and I mean very slowly getting into BOBWOV. This do to lack of time for gaming, being spring and great weather and all. In fact have not even started or looked at campaigns, still doing training missions and these AARs just make me want to move quicker in terms of getting into the experience of this sim. The only thing I'm worrried about is that if I start a campaign and really learn the depth of this sim, I'll be drawn in and "poof", there goes my summer outside. My wife would shake me up. \:D

Wow I completely want to get this sim after I have a system that can run it. What was the outcome of Raid 5?

Ah, Finbarr, my hero - one of the great things to come from Great Britain!

A long time ago, I had an opportunity to command the Luftwaffe.

You can find my daily mission report HERE!

Its about 20 days worth of campaign.

Hey Snuffy how did youget daily tallies for your AARs?

Very nicely written, good guide for a luftwaffe campaign.

Re: Commanding the Luftwaffe - 03/03/08 12:32 PM

Hey VonKhan,

Thanks for the comments.

Lets see, it was back in September when I did this ... 2006 ... I've since moved on to other things, but just recently started doing the research to reinstall and update on a new computer.

There are reports and logs that are generated by the game as you play it. Essentially what I did was to have a note pad with me at all times and started taking notes with regards to events, locations, and the like.

Most of my campaign, was run in 2D map mode as it got to be too much of a hassle trying to frag every incidence as more and more aircraft got into the action. Use the markers, take notes and double check the after action reports.

That's if I remember correctly. It was great fun, and only took 21 days (game time) to subdue the RAF. I ignored the convoys altogether, and went straight for the throat. Be a bit careful about attacking things like aircraft manufacturing facilities, it causes the AI to break them up and move them about making it harder to try to grind the production to a halt. Occasional bombing of a plant here and there for minimum or moderate damage can be gotten away with.

The real thing I did was to eliminate airfields that were useful. As more and more bases went down, the AI couldn't get repair teams to the fields fast enough, and as soon as one came back online, it was immediately targeted again.

Re: Commanding the Luftwaffe - 03/04/08 02:39 AM

Ah okay I see.

I've been doing really well with my campaign despite being a complete rookie. I tried to do everyhting the Germans didnt in the real BOB. Started with massive raids on the radar facilities over and over till they were completely destroyed beyond repair. Complete concentration of air power every time.

In mid August right now and pretty much everything below and around London is a red cross. They've stopped intercepting my raids even though they have 650 or so fighters. So Im roaming about knocking out everything at will... Kind of gotten boring, wondering when the campaign will end.

It'll end when the last of the airfields for 11 group go away.

Good luck.

Re: Commanding the Luftwaffe - 03/05/08 12:34 AM

Anywhere I can get a list of those? :P

Re: Commanding the Luftwaffe - 03/05/08 01:32 AM

On the LUF campaign just hit the "target" button. There are tabs for the target categories.

The 11 group is shown on the campaign map (you may need to translat some German however). If unsure look at the Brit campaign map.

Re: Commanding the Luftwaffe - 03/05/08 06:13 AM

Well I wiped out all airfields left and the campaign ended. A whole lot of fun.

Question though. I tried starting new campaigns and everything in England is destroyed from my first campaign. Why hasnt it reset even if I make a new name to start a new campaign?

Re: Commanding the Luftwaffe - 03/05/08 01:08 PM

Yep, I did the same ... lemme see if I can find the thread over on the Shockwave fourms and do a cut and paste here.

Short version, I think I had to wipe the saved game files ... I don't remember.

CRS is a terrible thing.

Okay folks.

Having just finished my luftwaffe campaign against the Brits, I thought I'd start a new campaign as the Brits against the Luftwaffe.

Started the new game ... got to the 2D map and started looking about and .. the map is the one I finished the Luftwaffe campaign with. All of 11 group's bases are gone, all the damage to other targets are still there.

Not a new map for a new campaign.

Whutz up with that?

That is a problem for sure. First report of it I have heard, but there it is.
Until a proper solution is found and made, try something for us.
Try deleting all .bsl saves and the ones highlighted below:

I know you can safely delete the Package .DAT file, but dis -remember if tossing out the blank.DAT file is cool. I think so, but back both of them up in case I am wrong. Keep the input and Settings files.
This may restore you to a clean and virgin Campaign start.

Oh! One more thing.. sometimes I notice a new .DAT file gets generated in SAVEGAMES.
Damned if I can remember the name of it, now, but it's name seemingly has nothing to do with a Campaign.
When it shows up, (twice in two months) I toss it out, because it just don't smell right!

Before you delete anything, can you post a pic as I did, so that we can see what is in your current SAVEGAME folder?

Thanks for reporting this, BTW. Stuff like this tics people off.

I only tried it once ... and got flustered. Good thing it was monday night and the Patriots were playing!

Stickman, I'll take a look at my savegame folder and see what it looks like and post as I can. If it won't be tonight, it'll be wednesday for sure.

OTOH, starting a Brit campaign from this senario may prove interesting to try to fight back and get all of 11 group airfields back online.

Thanks. I do not see that oddball file that pops up in there occasionally.
Try deleting some of the files as I suggested.

Email coming in Stickman with bsl attached for your viewing pleasure.

I went ahead and ran with the campaign as it was given to me.
Croydon is an active field though damaged.

So far I've only had two Luftwaffe recon raids.

The dates and all other actions appear like a new campaign senario, just the map produces my old luftwaffe campaign where 11 group is completely destroyed.

Before I do as you suggest Stickman, is there a way via the British command of things to issue repair orders?

So far all the Luftwaffe have done is send recon missions and at this time Croydon is the only functional base of 11 Group.

Snuffy, I know nothing about the RAF Campaign. Never played one!
Someone needs to be the devil's advocate and concentrate on the LW side.

My gut feeling is that RAF repairs have no user interface.

Stickman, Just for giggles and grins, I went ahead and moved all the files to another directory on a different drive then went in to start a new RAF campaign.

Got a new map with all parts and pieces right where they need to be.
