UBOOT on Steam Greenlight

UBOOT on Steam Greenlight - 05/09/16 06:59 PM

This looks cool. Sort of a sandbox, cutout, uboat life simulator.

Does it bear any resemblance to SilentHunter3?

Seems more like Silent Hunter 5 with the crew interactions, though could be reading a lot into the video. I don't recall any real crew interactions till SH5 came out.

Re: UBOOT on Steam Greenlight - 05/10/16 02:59 PM

Its more like b17 II with a sub. Which could be fun.

I really want to see a 8 person coop sub game. SH series had MP but none of you were on the same ship. I'd love to call out contacts from the periscope and have someone plot them on the map while someone else is listening to sonar.

Interesting crew interaction, which seems to be better than the SH series.

Re: UBOOT on Steam Greenlight - 05/13/16 10:28 PM

Very cool!

Not wild about the KS campaign though, $15k US seems like they are lowballing the cash needed to get this launched. Plus, at this point, I expect something right away for my KS cash, as in immediate access to the alpha/beta material. I feel that's fair as:

1. With KS, there's the risk that's all you'll ever get
2. It proves there's something concrete here.

Yes, that "Playway" program will double their KS cash, but still, that cash is going to burn very quickly in light of their ambitious goals.

Wish they sounded a little more "German"

Re: UBOOT on Steam Greenlight - 05/17/16 05:01 PM

I backed the game so I could talk to the guy running the kickstarter. I asked if they were doing manual crew stations and if they had plans for a single boat coop (ie multiple players on one boat)

Quote:
We do manual stations as an option in our game. Currently we support manual periscope, artillery, flak and also have put some initial work into hydroacoustic station. We will most probably allow the player to do some or possibly even all the targeting job for himself, if he likes to, but because this is optional we would like to let the veterans decide on the details of this one.

I love the single crew coop idea, but hard truth is that we probably won't hit the multiplayer stretch goal. If we would manage to get there, this wouldn't be such a hassle to add this, because all the synchronisation job would be done already and this indeed sounds like a lot of fun!

So yea, we have to get this funded! and we have to get them to their stretch goal! It is no longer an option NOT to back this!

The 1st stretch goal is "german voices" so fingers crossed.

Will definitely back this one. Looks very promising!

got kind of annoying coming to this thread and having to click the video to get to the kickstarter link...

Re: UBOOT on Steam Greenlight - 05/20/16 09:55 AM

Looks very interesting but the requested funding levels are VERY low. 20k $ for the basic game? That's not even paying the salary for a single programmer for a year. Not even in Poland.

Hmm...Playway seems to have been responsible for Car Mechanic Simulator 2015 and Hard West, both decent but not great games. I'll keep an eye on the Kickstarter.

Re: UBOOT on Steam Greenlight - 05/20/16 02:59 PM

They have almost the full game already made from what I can tell. They just need about 1 year's worth of money to finish it and publish it. They also have an investor that will fund then 1:1 for whatever KS funds they get. SO if they get 20k they get another 20k from their investor.

Subsim interview

Honestly the distance compression thing is sounding worse and worse. I really hope they get rid of it.

Re: UBOOT on Steam Greenlight - 05/26/16 08:26 PM

Yeah, I have some questions about that too. I am guessing that the gameplay will be similar to Crash Dive and Atlantic Fleet, you will have frequent engagements and plotting an intercept course and getting into position won't be as challenging as in the SH series.

Still, could be fun....

Indeed!...It looks interesting!...Moreover, it looks educative, a no-nonsense quasi simulator!

My kind of game! thumbsup

Re: UBOOT on Steam Greenlight - 03/02/17 12:45 PM

Did I just watch the Capt shoot the cook for burning scrambled eggs?

Re: UBOOT on Steam Greenlight - 03/02/17 01:05 PM

I hate burnt scrambled eggs,I'd have shot him as well.

This looks interesting although I do get tired of every sub game being based on German boats. SH4 was the exception but they eventually added one to that in the end.

Submarine sims only appeal to a very niche market so the developers/ publishers have to stick to doing the widely popular and well known countries like Germany and the US. Quite frankly, a Royal Navy sub sim, Italian navy sub sim or even a Japanese sub sim would have even less commercial appeal.

Re: UBOOT on Steam Greenlight - 03/02/17 03:19 PM

Yeah,I fully understand that Panzer. It was like in flight sims at one time where it seemed every one was based on the F-16. That was snooze central for me.

Now look what happened to HMS Marulken. Now a German Uboat sim. Ah well,I should be grateful for what we have, there won't be too many getting made now.

Re: UBOOT on Steam Greenlight - 03/05/17 02:38 AM

Looking great! I absolutely love all the points of view that are available from the sort of diorama, cut out and compartment view to being able to pull into a first person perspective and explore and enjoy an up close view of the modeling. I'm a bit baffled by the cook getting shot though lol. If its sort of an X-COM-type treatment or rpg element that models guys going nuts or being psychologically shattered by the stress and environment I'm all for that. Who knows what kind of crazy scenarios might happen out there and when out at sea, no one can hear you scream.

Re: UBOOT on Steam Greenlight - 01/01/18 02:30 PM

Latest dev video update from a few days back, all in simplified navigation and “auto” firing solution. This can apparently be changed in settings if you wish for hardcore, I hope so but do not know if true.

Some macro management will drive me nuts, but looking forward to everything else.

Cheers,

That is because the Germans were and are the masters of "U-Boote".
My grandfather, who served in Kriegsmarine, said: Yay, the Italians... but you can never rely on them - as we found out the hard way (1943 he meant).

Reason?
Easy: Simply follow how embarrasing every encounter of the US Navy NOWADAYS still is with German U-Boote:

[Linked Image]

Sources:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_submarine_U-32_(S182)
"In March 2013, U-32 crossed the Atlantic Ocean in order to join exercises on the east coast of the United States. During the journey the U-Boot remained submerged for 18 days, the longest time any German submarine managed to do so, yet."

U-24 simulated attack and sinking of USS Enterprise (CVN-65)
https://www.abendblatt.de/politik/a...das-einen-US-Admiral-wuetend-machte.html

Of course the pro anglo-US mass-media does not entensively mention that...

But this ancestry/heritage/legacy is part of the miracle, the fun...

Enjoy it... in the DOENITZ ELITE FLOTILLA

Hardly.

The US Navy Submarine fleet of WWII conducted the most successful submarine warfare campaign in history.

February - April 1960, USS Triton spent 60 days submerged while circumnavigating the globe.

Re: UBOOT on Steam Greenlight - 09/23/18 02:21 AM

This always looked good to me but man its looking better and better each time. I'm intrigued by the more story or mission type elements that might help flesh out the experience such as seeing that crew member checking out that mysterious sub and another donning deep diving equipment for some purpose. Maybe external ship repairs? I also love how you have full spectrum viewing access from walking around in first person to panning out to a 3D camera view to seeing the cutout management view.

This is the only game I'm actually excited about in recent years. Not enough to Kickstart it (I don't do that sort of thing) but I'm eagerly awaiting the EA.

It says 1-4 players does that mean you can play solo?

P-47's attacking a U-Boat out in the middle of the Atlantic? Why would they use P-47's for that scene?

The P-47 is now out, being replaced by various historically-correct aircrafts.
Can’t remember where I read that, but confirmed by developers.
