Graphics look brilliant, gameplay however... my god are those ships on speed?

It is what it is I suppose and could be quite fun. Shame we couldnt get that type of gfx on a more realistic game though.

I think this could be fun. I'll be adding it to my other 'World of' games library yep

Re: World of Warships - 12/17/14 05:56 AM

Wow....you have to hand it to these "World Of..." guys. No matter what you may think of the arcade like gameplay, they know how to make a game that is fun, keeps people interested, is beautiful, and is easy on your rig. They are going to be around a long time.
With American tanks coming out soon, and now the ships about to be released, I might just wind up putting some money into this game.

Re: World of Warships - 12/17/14 10:59 PM

I still play World of Tanks. It's still a great, fun lil game that excites me. Looking forward to this!

Re: World of Warships - 12/17/14 11:50 PM

I tried out the American tanks today in WT. They just seem to get it right. The looks, the sound, the movement. I also rescued my first tank using the tow cable.

The American tanks are out!!? Bye, for now.

Re: World of Warships - 12/20/14 01:56 PM

It really looks a lot like Battlestations Pacific.
Posted By: VMIalpha454

Re: World of Warships - 12/24/14 04:44 AM

I don't know man. I mean, sure, it looks more arcade than sim. It also looks a ton better than Battlestations. That game was such a let down.
Posted By: Evil Flower

Re: World of Warships - 12/24/14 08:23 PM

It goes without saying the graphics look much better than BSP which was a 2009 game. But as far as gameplay goes, the combat looks almost exactly the same - ludicrously close range, ships that move like speedboats, no real tactics to speak of. Even the binoculars to zoom in look the same. IMO Naval Action looks far superior to this.

I saw the models, and went wow........ I saw the gameplay videos and my heart sank.

Not for me.

why the hell destroyer command wasn't reinvented or updated to modern spec is beyond me!

Closed Game Test was available today. Played about 15 matches so far. So far, I'm enjoying it better than I thought I would.

Yeah,I popped some gameplay footage from it into here http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/4091187/World_of_Warships#Post4091187

I'm not too sure if I will enjoy it though. All of my sea-based simming has been with stuff like TF1942,Dangerous Waters and the SH series, all on the realistic side. What am I saying,I play a lot of WoT and WT,I'm sure I'll love it biggrin

I would love to try this, but I always miss the beta invitations (probably because I don't follow any other World of xyz titles). So I am stuck with Navyfield II as posted in the thread below, but from the looks that one is really no match to WoWS...
Posted By: Chucky

Re: World of Warships - 03/18/15 04:03 PM

I did look at your thread about Navyfield WhoCares and I was ok right up until I saw the video.I would not usually put graphics over gameplay (up to a point) but I think that WoW has the potential to have both. I mean it looks great now, hopefully by release the gameplay will be top-notch.

As would I . . .

Probably the most fun I ever had a (non flight/sub sim) computer games was Great Naval Battles 2: Guadalcanal.

What I wouldn't give for that with 2014 graphics, etc.

Re: World of Warships - 03/22/15 05:00 PM

It's a nice looking game, but it's very much World of Tanks at sea. I guess War Thunder spoiled me a bit, but I uninstalled the Warships beta already.

Re: World of Warships - 03/23/15 03:16 PM

Mighty Jingles lately uploaded also a video about the USS St. Louis cruiser.

I registered with a few email addresses for another beta key lottery scheduled later this week - let's see what comes out of it; maybe I will even have a key to share wink

Nice vid, Jingles really got me interested in WoW.
Posted By: WhoCares

Re: World of Warships - 03/24/15 01:25 PM

When I googled a bit I came across a webpage that runs a lottery for >100 keys. As said, I dropped them some of my "dummy" email addresses, maybe I get lucky.
As I am not yet registered with the WoX fanchises, I will also never receive a notification from them for such official invitations, so I try my luck this way...

Yes, I also like those videos. Ship speed/battle pace seems to be reasonable as well. Those vintage WW1 6" cruiser guns might score a bit too much damage against battleship armor (in both videos, though in the latter ít's Kongos, which are more like battle cruisers, at least that's how they historically started).
I am not so sure about the map/battle size, and it will be interesting to see how map borders are treated. With the long range capabilities of the bigger guns and the scout and CV planes you need a lot of space for maneuvering, flanking moves, long lance torpedo attacks, ...

Re: World of Warships - 03/24/15 02:47 PM

You can pretty much bet that gameplay will be 'balanced' just like in WoT so expect nothing realistic.

If only Gaijin would do warships, that's our only hope...
Posted By: WhoCares

Re: World of Warships - 03/24/15 03:22 PM

Just came across this wiki, with a lot of developer posts collected. Here an interesting list on historical vs balancing:
Quote:
Can you tell us, which key ship parameters (only the key ones - I understand, there is a lot more) are historical and which are balancing (I assume that even the balancing factors take in account historical stats where available). A few that I could think of:
1.1 HP – balancing I presume
1.2 Armor (both thickness and layout) – historical
1.3 Size, buoyancy, structure (location of ammo holds, engines,…) etc - historical
1.4 Number of guns, torp. tubes, caliber, type and weight of shells, etc. – mostly historical
1.5 Ammo capacity – mostly historical
1.6 Speed – historical
1.7 Acceleration – balancing
1.8 Accuracy + FCS quality – balancing
1.9 Ship and gun turret turn rate – balancing
1.10 Number of planes – historical
1.11 Ammo hold vulnerability – historical
1.12 Flooding capacity? – balancing
1.13 View range – balancing
1.14 Penetration, damage – balancing
1.15 Rate of fire – balancing
1.16 Other?

There are 3 hundreds parameters for every ship. May I don’t describe it? You write all correct in your list. - Posted 16 May 2013 - 04:41 AM - EU

Re: World of Warships - 03/25/15 04:25 PM

What I don't like about those videos are the island-cluttered map(s)...

Posted By: WhoCares

Re: World of Warships - 03/26/15 10:00 AM

Ah well, as was to be expected I didn't win a key in said lottery, so back to the other game again (NF2).

I am really not a big fan of all that "over" balancing for tier and between nations/trees - in that other game I am currently in a supposed to be York-class CA (tier 6), but with 3 turrets with 3 6" guns each, instead of 3x2x8" - so technically, as per London Treaty definition, it is actually a CL not CA; okay, in an upgrade I can get the historical outfit...
Problem is that I also have a Leander class CL (tier 7), but that one has 4x3x6" instead of 3x2x6"; so instead of being inferior it considerably out-guns the (standard) York.

Re: World of Warships - 04/08/15 08:41 AM

I've been playing this a bit since the closed beta started. It's pretty good.

I hope they improve the battleships though, because right now I find them to be a joke. Sure they pack a whollop, BUT only if you manage to hit anything with them. I fired 4-6 salvos at a stationary AI ship from 7-8kms away, and not a single round hit. Meanwhile someone in a cruiser was nailing it every single time from a similar distance.

That was with the tier 4 Japanese Miyogi by the way. Maybe they get a lot better the higher you go.

Basically the Miyogi can fire once every 30 seconds or so, and has horrendous accuracy. I can handle the slow turn rate of both the ship and the turrets, but come on, they need to at least improve the accuracy. A cruiser can fire something like 3 times in the time it takes a battleship to fire once, and the cruiser's accuracy isn't gimped either.

I know it's a balance issue, because a good hit can one shot a destroyer. But I'm frustrated to the point of abandoning the Battleship line and driving more cruisers instead.

End rant.

The Mighty Jingles in his tier V Kongo showing you how to dodge repeated torpedo attacks. I hope this gets released soon,I can't wait to get playing.

Re: World of Warships - 04/09/15 01:19 PM

Yes, Jingles uploaded a couple more nice WoWS videos lately, about the Kongo, the japanese BB before that (a never really build paper ship) and also the DD Sampson.

I also had a look at their forums yesterday - lately a mod "surfaced" that does the lead calculation and gives you a target mark on the screen, considerably increasing accuracy for those who need it. Currently it is considered a mod and not a cheat; will be interesting to see them tweak/balance the ships based on statisics generated with this mod. Hope they get this sorted (=removed/banned) by the time I get my hands on the game.

Re: World of Warships - 04/15/15 08:21 AM

Lately they started the preorder program, with various packages, e.g. different premium ships but also other things.
Initially just that, the preorder, they now (temporarily as they say) bundle closed beta access with the preorder packages that include ships.
As ships you can get the Russian Gremyashchiy destroyer (T5), the American Sims class destroyer (T7), or the Japanese light cruiser Yubari (T4).
Mighty Jingles uploaded a short (p)review of those premium ships:

The aim assist mod is still heavily discussed, the developer so far not eplicitely ruling against it (under investigation, collecting data, checking solution, ...).

Well that's weird. I'm positive I purchased the Yubari but I've just got the game installed and in my line-up is the Gremyashchiy?

A good video showing 2 guys who squad up and the tactics they use and against a numerically superior team in the 1st battle.

Posted By: Lipfert

Re: World of Warships - 04/17/15 01:35 AM

I would be very careful about putting money into these games, I purchased Tanks to play in Sim Battles and basically the events do not include the Tanks I own.

So all my premium time is being wasted, they also are handing out bonuses for logging in and I just notice they are expiring. So not only have I paid for Premium time that I cannot use and the bonuses are expiring that I cannot use.

Total waste....
Posted By: Chucky

Re: World of Warships - 04/17/15 08:30 AM

This is not like War Thunder.Just like its land-based cousin,in World of Warships you can always play with any of your ships.

And yes,I don't usually put money into these games,I like to think that F2P is F2P but I wanted to get into the closed beta.
Posted By: SacaSoh

Re: World of Warships - 04/17/15 02:49 PM

Well, I purchased the USS Sims yesterday (after reading some reviews of the 3 ships - looks like Sims will be my "credit generator" when I'm off the premium time) and the game is looking pretty fine for a closed beta (besides the ping - 210ms in Brazil, but in WoT their server sometimes - one week a month - do the same for me... then it gets back to 100ms).

This has the potential to be better than a 3d Navyfield (the original not the crap moneygrab that is NF2), hope they up the complexity in ship customization - it would be nice to change armor thickness as in NF, but it's too early to see if they'll implement this (half of the confirmed features isn't even there yet).

Playing with the I-II tiers made me want to purchase Jutland, had a good lot of fun in the demo, but their DRM and support sucks... looks like is counter-strike ships for me for now (having lots of fun in WoWS).

Hope to see you guys online!

Re: World of Warships - 04/18/15 10:52 AM

Ok, purchased the Yubari.

Have been really looking forward to playing this game and 20€ seems like a fair price to get in now and have a premium cruiser on top.

See ya on the high seas!

Re: World of Warships - 04/22/15 03:01 PM

Yes, the game mixes nationalities in battles. It's quite possible that we'll see "historical battle" setups as in World if Tanks in the future though.

Re: World of Warships - 04/30/15 07:21 PM

The Mighty Jingles reviews the first British ship, the grand old lady HMS Warspite. As usual you get a history lesson, game facts and then some action, where he puts the 'inferior' Warspite up against serious opposition, kicking ass and taking names in the process.

As much as I want this ship,7500 gold? I'll wait for the full tech tree.

I have been playing for a week and I really like that game.

They seem to have learned from WOT and did not, so far, repeated the same mistakes.

It is a nice variation into the MMO world.

And as Evil flower mentioned it, it does recall views and dynamic encountered already in Battlestation Pacific.

Finally, those ships in action are beautiful.

Re: World of Warships - 06/16/15 08:46 AM

(Info only from the Wargaming forum, as I can't access the HumbleBundle page from office...)

For the North American server there seems to be currently a special HumbleBundle package that also gives access to the currently ongoing Closed Beta Test:
E3 HumbleBundle WarGaming Package discussion on WG forum
NOTE: All codes are only usable on the World of Tanks and World of Warships North American server, but may be used by persons anywhere worldwide. Content is only accessible on the North American server.

Bonus content: Tier V Russian Cruiser Murmansk, 5 Port Slots, and 7 Days of Premium game time and when you play 50 battles during the closed beta phase (don't know how long that still goes), you also get the USS Arkansas as CBT reward.
And all that for 1$.
Posted By: Chucky

Re: World of Warships - 06/16/15 09:17 AM

For a $? Nice deal, assuming the CBT lasts much longer.I think all CB players get the Arkansas as long as you have 50+ battles.

I've accumulated over 10,000,000 credits because I tend to play my favourite ships a lot rather than researching up the tech tree.I assume I will lose all that in the great stat wipe?
Posted By: WhoCares

Re: World of Warships - 06/16/15 09:57 AM

As said, I can't verify price and content of the bundle myself, but that's what is stated in the WG forum thread I linked (maybe someone could check and post it here directly?!).
And yes, every CB tester with 50+ battles gets the USS Arkansas; I also don't know how much time is left to play those 50+ battles, days, weeks, months?!

For an interested NA-based player, this is an easy buy - and there seems to be more in that bundle than just WG stuff.
For a EU player it could also be interesting for the gold, 1000 gold in WoT (as I understand it accounts are supposed to be merged and share the gold between WoT and WoWS), +2450 gold when you sell the Murmansk - if you could transfer the gold from a NA account to a EU account...

Yes, you will lose everthing accuired while playing with the wipe from closed beta test (CBT) to open beta test (OBT). That's also expected to be the last wipe (no wipe planned from OBT to final release).
After that wipe you will start with the items that you bought with real money (e.g. the stuff coming with the bundle listed above). On top CBT participants get the USS Arkansas (50+ battles), two captains with skill points (once you reach level 4 again), and a bunch of flags (based on the number of battles?!).

Quoting myself from the "Whatcha playing thread, the Open Beta Test is officially announced:

One might imply from this, that the OBT starts at June 25 00:00 CEST, but that's just my speculation wink

That is earliest 25th, or whenever they deem the right time - general assumption on the forum seems to be "traditional" patch day, => Friday.

Edit:
And the next step follows suit, June 26:
Patchnotes 0.4.0
And this update comes along with the wipe of all player stats, as it has been announced for the switch from CBT to OBT:
Quote:
The patch is scheduled for June 26 and will be applied on the servers from 05:00 until 08:00 CEST during which the game server will be offline.
With the deployment of the update, your game progress will be wiped as previously stated, meaning your ships and even stats on your profile will be taken away or reset to zero respectively.

This does not necessarily mean that the OBT starts immediatly when the servers come up with this patch - also possible that they make it a soft launch as CBT for a few days before they finally open it to the public.
But then again, they already tested this patch version in a separate "Public test" accessible for all CBT participants, so who knows...

I really, really struggled with Destroyers.I would usually dash to the nearest cap and then get killed.I was lucky to even get torp hits some matches.Well then I watched this from The Mighty Jingles and what do you know,my first 3 games and I torpedo and sink 9 ships! I got 4 in my first match.I knew all about staying out of range etc but never applied that info. Now before every game I check the visibility ranges, turn off AA and for the Japanese Destroyers I never fire the main guns.I'm having so much fun right now smile

Just a heads up if you bought the humble bundle that Wargaming did not carry it over to OBT (or early access for closed beta testers as it stands) and is claiming they never said they would. After some angry complaints and the attention of at least one big gaming news site Wargaming announced they will give the Murmansk cruiser but not the 1000 gold, the 7 days of premium or the port slots.

•I can now download and play the game. Is this a mistake?

No, it is a planned capacity test, congrats to getting in! If we reach our planned capacity for this test, we will disable registrations again.

•So is this Open Beta already? Why there was no announcement?

There was no announcement because we’re not in OBT yet, but as you can guess it’s getting closer and closer. Stay tuned and keep an eye on our web resources!

•If I buy Doubloon/Premium ship packages in the Premium shop, will I be able to keep them?

Yes, the Premium shop goods you buy from this moment on will carry over to the OBT when it starts, as well as later through the game’s official release.

•What about the regular ships? Will there be any more wipes?

No, the latest wipe during the deployment of update 0.4.0 was the last one we had planned, so whatever progress you get now you shall keep.

•Can I stream / make videos / post on Forums about the game and its contents?

Yes, the game is not under NDA anymore. If you got in, feel free to enjoy and discuss!

Hope that answers the most burning questions and puts everyone at ease!

Action Stations! :honoring:

Re: World of Warships - 07/02/15 05:53 AM

I'm already in smile
Having fun with my US tier 1 & 2 ships, working out how targeting works and getting better at not running into islands.
One thing that is bothering me, though, is that I am getting the sound bug. When multiple sounds are occurring it gets VERY staticy and unpleasant. Any ideas?

Re: World of Warships - 07/02/15 10:08 AM

Not heard of that problem FT,other than lowering the sound detail I'm not sure what else to try.

Neither have I heard of such a sound issue, sorry can't help you with that issue.

As other news, World of Warships has today officially entered the Open Beta Test phase.

I created a division with my nephew today,we must have played for 5+ hours. What a blast, this game is even better played that way.We co-ordinated all our attacks it was just brilliant. This is very close to being GotY for me.

Re: World of Warships - 07/07/15 07:26 AM

It's nice having more players online 24 hours a day, versus waiting up to 10 minutes for enough players to populate my tier range. Frustrating to start over but grwat having all of my gold/dubloons in my account to buy my premiums again. Now to focus on the Japanese cruiser line before grinding the US cruiser line. I really liked the Des Moines but the grind to it is more frustrating than the IJN cruisers.

Also, anyone interested in making a division on the weekend, let me know. My only challenge is I'm in Korea but not a show stopper when warned ahead of time.

My ingame name is same as here and WoT.

Yeah, started playing again some days ago and really enjoy the game!

DDs are soooo much fun!

Re: World of Warships - 07/08/15 10:15 AM

I really enjoy the DD's,the Japanese ones that is.Although the American DD's have better guns I much prefer the range and speed of the Japanese torps.I never even fire the guns on my Jap DD's,all it does is annoy the target and give my position away.

I finally got my beloved Omaha back.I love this ship!

I just went from the St Louis (WoooPEWPEWPEW) to the Phoenix (HmmmSigh). I need to upgrade the Phoenix....

Yeah, the std Phoenix isn't too exciting.I still play it though when the Omaha is still in battle.I still have my St Louis as well. You can never have too many guns biggrin

Just got the Omaha back myself. A very competitive ship. Just gotta grind my Mogami now. banghead

I'm slowly working back up to where I was before the wipe. I hate the Phoenix...but getting closer to my Cleveland.

Re: World of Warships - 07/09/15 01:28 AM

Grabbed it last night and ground my way to the St Louis. Sound is an annoying issue for me though, the guns are either deafeningly loud and i can just hear the engines and a bit of ambient noise but if i tone them down i am like a sub running in silence with just the boom of the guns. Any tips to get some sea splashing noises at all without killing the neighbourhood with the sounds of war on the high seas ?

Next issue, graphics, everything pumped but still looks sort of average, textures are a bit bleh and lots of jaggies. This is maxed out in graphics and nothing i have done in there changes the look really.

Gameplay is ok, the Destroyers are easily my preferred ship once you get torps, lots of rushers to kill in the beginning of most matches, is there only bots or random battles ? No other battle modes ?

EDIT- No fix for the jaggies yet, seems to be how it is atm. Cannot force any settings in the Nvidia CP as the game crashes the panel, also standard biggrin

Regards modes - You can open a training mode via Aslain Mod Installer where you can set up practice bot battles or go head to head with friends and whatever, a heap of different aiming reticule options ..nothing real exciting though, the only thing i am using is the see through map in the corner and a more zoomed out ship view to perve around whilst making your way to battle, was hoping for some ship skins but it seems they are not enabled yet , unsure. The Japanese flags option included are way better than standard.

Haven't worked out anything with the sound yet.

Re: World of Warships - 07/09/15 04:04 PM

As far as I know, it's just the two modes at the moment.

For what it's worth, if any of you are hanging out in the bot mode, stop! I was doing that for a while without realizing the XP difference between playing against bots versus playing against other players. The amount of XP I get in a terrible random battle was equaling my best games against the bots.

Nice result Para yep I haven't got that kind of result in mine...yet.

Do you prefer the Type 92 torps (7Km range/68 knots) or the Type 89 (10Km range/57 knots)?

I'm using the shorter ranged Type 92 but with that one I need to watch my concealment range carefully.

I just love putting a full salvo of torps into a BB without getting spotted and then getting abuse in the chat...lucker/torps are overpowered/noob etc etc biggrin

Nice, my best battle was a Tier II one, with 7 kills biggrin
Posted By: Para_Bellum

Re: World of Warships - 07/12/15 11:28 AM

IMO the faster, 7km range torps are FAR better, less chance of a target successfully evading them. And yeah, staying unspotted is probably the most important skill for a DD skipper.

Having the most joy in my Wyoming, the thing is a beast ! Cruisers are my biggest worry with those hit and run DD's coming in next..hard to hit with a good Captain behind the wheel and making sure i have a some of my own Cruisers and DD's between them and me before i commit to broadside range.

Posted By: Chucky

Re: World of Warships - 07/12/15 03:28 PM

This is where divisions come in really useful Ajay.My nephew and I play cruisers a lot and with the St Louis or Omaha we can tear DD's to shreds in double quick time if they don't deploy smoke or if they do they fire back and just give their position away.I don't think a lot of players understand that particular game mechanic,or that firing their guns reduces their concealment range.I never fire my DD's guns unless I absolutely have to.
Posted By: FlyingToaster

Re: World of Warships - 07/12/15 05:19 PM

The spotting distance is a little annoying to me - unless the ships were fighting in thick fog, there is no way a Destroyer could get to 6km (or whatever it is) without being spotted.
Posted By: WhoCares

Re: World of Warships - 07/13/15 09:08 AM

But that's really the only advantage that the DDs have - and it dimishes as the tier increases. No, not the concealment itself, but the effectiveness, as more and more planes from CVs, BBs and cruisers are up in the air which make it more and more difficult to stay undetected. That's the main reason why I use the slower 10km torps with the Minekaze. For later IJN DDs those slower long range torps may be the only viable option anyway, at least when I look at the Mutsuki torp and concealment stats. And (at least low/mid tier) US DDs often have to go into visible range for a torp attack.

I just yesterday "elited" the Minekaze but not yet bought the Mutsuki - not sure whether I shall continue in that line.
I also have the US T5 BB New York, but I feel the US BB line is rather tedious "work", at least compared to my CBT experience with japanese BBs.

But i love my T7 IJN CA Myoko - still have to "elite" it as well, but I don't see a reason to switch to Mogami. I prefer, and are reasonably successful, with the 8" AP, so the 6" spam doesn't "attract" me, and the 8" performance is about the same (not sure whether they adjusted the Mogami range; if not, that is a huge bonus to the Myoko).
Not to mention that in the current state there is a high likelyhood that T8s will find themself often outclassed in T9/10 battles. And the upkeep (repair and ammo) to be profitable will also be more challenging. Currently I pay ~60k full repair in Myoko, and ~10-15k ammo. I'd assume ~80k repair in Mogami and maybe 15-20k ammo in Mogami, which would put it to a total of ~70k Myoko vs 100k Mogami. With a standard account it will be hard to earn the credits for all the upgrades and the next ship...

Myoko also already has a good AA rating (better than the US T6 CL Cleveland!), often underrated by enemy CV captains, esp. if you add AA-related captain skills and uprades. Not unusual to end the battle with 10+ or sometimes 20+ planes shot down, esp. against lower tier CVs.

Wyoming is a great ship, loved it. The New York on the other hand is very bad. i almost think the Wyoming at tier 4 is better then the Tier V NY. The Ny is very inaccurate even at short distances.

a game last night in the NY i had a stationary DD (think he was afk) i was literally 3.4 KM away and unleashed a barrage of HE from all guns. twice, and every round missed while i was aimed center of his hull. i gave up after that.

Re: World of Warships - 07/13/15 01:23 PM

I found my Arkansas Beta to have very poor accuracy and that is a sister ship to the Wyoming.I spent 3,000,000 credits on an accuracy upgrade.Money not well spent in the end as I mainly play CA's and DD's now.

I had the same issue as you in the NY.I had a ship bang in my sights at close range, fired all 6 turrets (12 shells) and only one hit.If I was in a British ship I could at least have blamed it on the rum ration...

Re: World of Warships - 07/14/15 02:10 AM

Damn..so what do i do. I have one, maximum two battles tonight and i will have the required for the NY..or i could plonk what i have on the langley and work the US carrier line and then come back to the NY later and maybe go work the Japanese Cruiser or BB line as i don't have either of those yet. These tech tree choices are hard yo biggrin

I suppose i need to grab that NY sooner or later so i should just grab it and work some modules for it, the Langley is only 11k worth of work in the Wyoming so that's no drama to do again.

Select required ship in port...hit the 'modules' tab...hit the 'upgrades' tab (it's alongside the 'ammunition and consumables' tab).

***You need to be at LEVEL 6 or above to have access to this feature***

All good i am level 8 and it seems atm there is no more levels past that ? I don't see an accuracy upgrade though, only these...

I am also unsure now about mounting modules as to sell a ship so i can free up a slot i have to pay to unmount the modules..wth.

Did ok on the New Yorks shakedown run but got torped by the carrier planes in the dying seconds. Still, happy with a Wyoming and New York that i put down after a good duel smile As usual one of our BB's was afk which seems to happen a lot in this game.

Re: World of Warships - 07/14/15 02:07 PM

One other thing, when i want to move up the tech tree i have to send my commander to reserve or dismiss him yes ? Then when i buy my next ship i can reassign my commander or any of my reserves but he loses all of his skills and has to start from scratch on that ship as if he has never been on a ship before even though he fully mastered the previous..? Plus he also gets a penalty of -50% penalty on all basic skills initially Or am i doing it all wrong. Does he turn into a landlubber on his mini vacation ?
Posted By: WhoCares

Re: World of Warships - 07/14/15 03:33 PM

You send him to reserve - don't dismiss him!
In fact I usually do it the other way around as long as I have a free slot in the harbour.
That means:
- buy new ship (whitout captain and without slot)
- transfer captain from previous ship
- sell previous ship
This way I don't run the risk of dismissing my precious trained captain.

With the last step, the handling of the installed upgrades is also intresting - if you dismount them (costs gold!) you can afterwards install them on the new ship from the depot (without cost). But you can also sell them with the ship (I am acutally not sure whether and if yes how many credits you get for the installed upgrades), in which case you will obviously have to rebuy them (with credits) on the new ship.

And yes, retraining the captain is a tedious job. At higher levels I'd suggest to invest the 200k credits to cut the retraining by half. Also, especially at low tiers I hold back with activating skills exactly for that reason - to reduce the retraining time. E.g. I got two captains of level 6, but on the lower tiers I only activated a level 1 and level 2 skill, leaving 3 skill points unused. I think I only used them when I reached a T4 ship...
Last but not least, if you have premium ships, you can do the retraining on those ships as well. On premium ships the captain skills are fully active also in the retraining phase, and experience earned on them also adds to the retraining.

Yeah i think i mucked it up earlier. I dismissed my Captain and sold his current ship, the Phoenix so i could free up a slot for the New York.

Re: World of Warships - 07/17/15 08:02 AM

Might come in handy for screenies - from rakgitarmen at the WoW sub

For those wondering how to switch to the free camera mode while spectating, it's done by pressing RCTRL+RSHIFT+BACKSPACE. You can also disable the UI by pressing CTRL+G.

The camera controls I've found so far are:

Arrow keys - Move forward in the horizontal plane by up and down, strafe with left and right.
Mouse wheel - Zoom
Numpad 7 and 9 - Move the camera up and down
Numpad 1 and 3 - Move the camera (in the direction you're looking)

Re: World of Warships - 07/20/15 01:52 PM

Found out from Farrisen on the WoW sub you can remap the keys in the Command_mapping_config.xml located in (your install directory)\World of Warships\res folder. I don't like having combo keys like the shift+x for locking guns on an area and others, plus , being an arrow user i find controls waaaay over the wasd side of the keyboard rather annoying smile In any game i really hate two keys combos regardless, keyboards have plenty of keys, just no need imo.

In there you have stuff like

<CMD_ABSOLUTE_GUNS_LOCK keyCode="KEY_X KEY_LSHIFT" />
<CMD_RELATIVE_GUNS_LOCK keyCode="KEY_X KEY_LCONTROL" />

which is easy enough to change to a single key like

<CMD_ABSOLUTE_GUNS_LOCK keyCode="KEY_L" />
<CMD_RELATIVE_GUNS_LOCK keyCode="KEY_P" />

Re: World of Warships - 07/20/15 02:00 PM

Do I need to pay real dollars in order to research or buy another ship? I have over 100K credits (I think) no doubloons since I am not a paying member. I sold one of my ships in order to fee up a slot (I screwed up)now I only have one ship. I haven't seen any docs explaining how to purchase or upgrade/research other than researching the parts on the ship I already have.
Posted By: Chucky

Re: World of Warships - 07/20/15 02:16 PM

You don't need real money to buy/upgrade ships (unless you want to buy a premium ship) but you can buy more ship slots and commander slots with it.Also, some upgrades require real money.Plus you can only covert exp to free exp with real money.I think that's about it.
Posted By: specialksl

Re: World of Warships - 07/20/15 02:41 PM

How do I buy and research new ships?
Posted By: Chucky

Re: World of Warships - 07/20/15 04:02 PM

Earn credits/experience until you have enough to research and then buy the ship. Go to the Tech Tree and look at what the next ship(s) available are.If you click on one it will show in the port and in the top right of the screen you can see how many research points you need.Once researched you can buy it with your credits if you have enough. It looks complicated but it really isn't that bad once you get the basics.
Posted By: specialksl

Re: World of Warships - 07/20/15 06:36 PM

I don't see the experience points. Is that the same as exchange credits? I see my present ship has 255 XP. Do I need to build this up to be able to research?
Posted By: Chucky

Re: World of Warships - 07/20/15 08:38 PM

Yeah,XP is required for research.I don't know why it says 'exchange credits' it's misleading. The number above is the amount of credits you have earned which allows you to buy ships you have researched. You can only 'exchange credits' if you have 'doubloons',and to get those you have to lay down some real money.

Just keep grinding away until you have enough XP to research the next ship.If you hover the mouse over each ship (bottom of screen) in the port it will show you how much XP each ship has earned to date.

When you finish a battle you are rewarded with credits,XP and free XP.Free XP can be used on anything,XP is used to research the next ship in the tech tree.XP you earn on elite or premium ships can be converted to free XP but only for doubloons.

A ship becomes 'elite' when you have fully researched it and you purchase the next ship in the line.

I may be making it sound more complicated than it is,if anyone else can chip in,please do biggrin
Posted By: Ajay

Re: World of Warships - 07/21/15 03:24 AM

Starting out it can be a bit wtf.

You must purchase all of the modules on one ship to elite it and then move on to the next ship in the tree. All of this can be done for no real money. When you sell a ship don't make the mistake i made and dismiss the commander, place him in reserve and then decide what to do with him from there. You can either put him in the new ship if you purchase it without a commander or put him in another ship depending on what skill tree you want him to go down.

The gold looking XP is bonus XP that can be used on any ship or on any module across all of the ships you currently have. It's something like a 5% bonus on top of the normal XP you grind.

At the most basic, if the next ship in your Destroyer line is 1000xp and the two modules on your current Destroyer are 100xp each then you need to grind the 1200xp to get the new Destroyer researched. This means you start out with your new Destroyer with no XP and no modules and the grind begins again smile

You need to get up on how the Captains work as well..it's best to decide what you want your Captain to be from the start. I roll with a DD Captain, CL Captain, BB Captain and a CV Captain that i continue down their respective line of ships. Click on the Captain over on the right of your screen and you will see how much experience he has acquired. The red number next to his name means you have a point you can allocate to his skill tree. Different ships need different skills..for instance it is worthless giving the BB captain a stealth skill as everything can spot you from a long distance, same with torp skills etc.

Also..check out your Captain before you decide to move him to a new ship as well, see how close down his latest progression bar he is..when you swap him out he starts again at whatever level so if he is halfway of nearly finished then keep him going in his ship or you will have to grind that full level ..again. It is easier sometimes to keep grinding the captain and his ship for a few more battles before buying the next ship in the line.

The other thing to keep in mind is when you swap your Captian into a new ship he loses %50 of whatever skills he has until he grinds the basic experience on the new ship, this will be shown by the experience modules under his name being shown in red. Once you have ground that initial experience then they become fully functional again and he goes back to his normal progression grind.

Like Chucky above...i hope that makes some sort of sense smile

Originally Posted By: Ajay

This is not exactly correct. Esp. in the lower tiers you can accellerate your progress through a tier by not "researching" all components of a ship, but only those that lead to the next ship that you want to unlock.
I can't post a screenshot now, but usually it is the hull upgrades that lead to the next ship in the tree. Weapon, engine or fire director modules usually "just" change/improve the ship, but they are not required to unlock the next ship.
Only if you want to "elite" a ship, you have to research every module for it.
And while you have to research (=EXP) every module in the path that leads to the next ship, you don't have to buy (=credits/silver))/install every module! E.g. with the New Mexico I have to research two hull upgrades (11k and 16k Exp) to get to the Colorado. However, I did not buy the first upgrade (=900k credits/silver), but only the second one (1,200k credits).
And even with an "elited" ship you don't need to buy all the modules, e.g. with my Aoba I have not bought the final AA hull upgrade (900k credits), though I still occasionally take it for a ride and train a captain on it, and even though by now I already have an "elite" Myoko as well.

i see you guys grinding the USN cruiser line. The ohmaha is a really good little ship. Just wait till you hit the cleveland, its god like. has great armor, great rate of fire. i get easily 2-3 kills a game with it.

then once your hit tier 7 pensecola, it is just garbage. the cola stock is the most god awful ship ive played yet. so much so to the point i just saved up XP and skipped it straight to the New orleans.
Posted By: Mpkev

Re: World of Warships - 07/21/15 01:34 PM

Also like to add the USN crusier line is about the only thing good on the US branch of all ships compared to the IJN classes. which is funny because in real life usn was far better then the IJN.

the American BB and carriers are junk, as well as the awful torp stats to us DD's. compared to the IJN ships.
Posted By: Chucky

Re: World of Warships - 07/21/15 02:50 PM

Yeah I love my Omaha a lot.And yes,the Cleveland is even better.I did purchase the Pensacola in the CBT but once I realised it was pants I just played the Cleveland until the great wipe.

I've been slowly working my way to the Langley but I'm not sure carrier play is for me.Would you say the IJN carriers better at the lower tiers?
Posted By: WhoCares

Re: World of Warships - 07/21/15 03:23 PM

Funnily enough, in CBT I actually preferred the Pensacola over the Cleveland (and also New Orleans). But I must be strange, because I also favour the Myoko over the Mogami - so much that I don't even bothered to buy the Mogami again.
I guess I just prefer the range and AP damage of the 8" guns.
Myoko at T7 is also still an easily self-maintaining and even money earning ship @58k credits for the hull + ~10-15k credits for ammo - I guess the Mogami (and other T8s) will be >100k total...
Myoko also has pretty good AAA for its tier (at least with all upgrades and respective captain skills).

US BBs are okay (currently at New Mexico), but the slow speed forces you to be much more considerate where you go - 2mins in the wrong direction and you may spend the next 10mins cruising around, trying to make contact again. That's why I usually stick to the center of the map when possible. Difficult in Hotspot and not possible on "Two Brothers" - yesterday in one battle I went east, sank an Omaha in three salvos and never came in range of another enemy because all were in the west...
Advantages of the IJN BBs (from CBT experience) are speed and slightly better gun range, so they are generally more forgiving with respect to a "misplacement". They easier get in and maintain contact, or get you out of a bad spot (like three cruisers harrassing you with HE)...

Even IJN DDs are getting more and more difficult. The enemies seem to get psychic capabilities at higher tiers, because they always turn just when I drop my torps...
By now it is not unusually that I just do gun damage in some battles, or no damage at all with >50 torps launched (Mutsuki & Minekaze). Not to mention all the scout/spotter and CV planes that tend to detect you, your torps, or simply prevent you from getting into a good position. A real excercise in frustration sometimes...
But I guess still better than low- to mid-tier US DDs - higher up the US DDs also get good longer ranged torps that should put them at least on par with their IJN counterparts.

But I can't really comment on US DD or carriers as I have never played them...

The enemies seem to get psychic capabilities at higher tiers, because they always turn just when I drop my torps...

the Cola, for me was the paper thin armor, and it seemed less maneuverable.

i dont mind playing BB's i only got up to the New York , since im grinding my way toward the Tier X cruiser. i just dont like the inaccuracy of battleships , the dispersion is terrible especially when my reload is like 30 seconds. and i shoot a taget broadside with a salvo at 10km and only 1 of the 10 rnds hit.

if anyone wants to division (platoon) hit me up sometime my game name is TheSuburbanErrorist

i have tier V IV VI VII and VIII ships , DD, BB, CA

looking for good peeeps to play with , solo playing is killing my winrate.

the only thing USN carriers have good is the fighters. they higher tier load-outs are just dumb for USN.

the Bogue the teir V CV for example, gets two hull upgrades each hull upgrade unlock a set of bomber/ fighters.

the bogue hull A gets 2 fighter squads and 1 dive bomber (which are useless) hull B gets no fighters 1 Torpedo bomber squad and 2 Dive bombers. thsi already is hugely inaccurate since USN would never sail without fighters on a carrier.

now the IJN equivalent to the Bogue at tier V gets the same hull upgrades but they get 2 fighters 1 torpedo Bombers, next upgrade no fighters but 2 torps and 1 bomber.

so they are already have the upper hand with Damage due to have more Torpedo bombers. while the USN get little to no TP bombers. which is ridiculous. \

this continues up the chain of tiers. so yes in a nutshell IJN carriers are far better damage dealers. their fighters however are not as good as USN fighters though.

Re: World of Warships - 07/24/15 01:03 AM

I find my Langley fighters absolutely obliterate the same tier Japanese fighters, even if up against two carriers with my one. Pity the fact that fighter or TB kills are worth jack sh/t although it is nice to clean the air for the rest of the team. I don't think i will go to far down the carrier line tbh, it's ok for a break after a lot of normal battles but with only one squad of fighters and one of TB's airborne at a time the gameplay is a bit tedious.

New York, i love the New York but don't like the BB dispersion overall, took me a while to find out that having a target 'locked' lowered the dispersion rate versus manual targeting...so that's something. BB gameplay can be slow with just enough oh sh/t moments to be tense, i slap on the 5% speed flag for those few extra knots. Total reverse in the Kawachi, getting in close and dirty and using it as a brawler instead of the long range stand off battles that she just cannot do with her terrible range. She excels in close and since moving into close battling, just going straight down the middle of the map, she has three matches in a row with three kills each time and twice was the last ship left on the map at the end. Couldn't get the grin of my face biggrin

With the Ami Cruiser line i moved into the Omaha the last few nights, got the xp to upgrade it to the AA platform +4, but not wanting to lose the -4 artillery, i think with the other two modules it brings that back to -2 arty overall. Nice ship, just been hanging around the BB's and CA's providing AA and DD cover.

For the next few nights i am staring down the barrel at moving all of these on Omaha>Cleveland, Isokaze>Minekaze, New York>New Mexico, Kuma>Furutaka and Kawachi>Myogi. Thinking to get the Myogi first so i can grind past it and get a Japanese BB with some speed and range.

Just got the New Mexico last night..challenging to start out at a base model after having a maxed out New York. Current line up Minekaze/Myogi/New Mexico/Omaha/Kuma. Definitely keeping the Minekaze for a bit, too much fun to sell smile

I've kept all my Japanese DD's so far, currently on the Minekaze.I play the Cleveland a lot and of course the best ship in the game, the Omaha biggrin

Some guy in another Omaha teamed up with me last night as we co-ordinated our attack/defence of a flag.We were alone.I ended up with 4 kills.I had no problem complementing the guy after the game.

Do you guys use the report/compliment feature much? It would be nice if compliments led to something, like flags but I guess it could be open to abuse.

In port currently:
Arkansas Beta, Sims, Phoenix, Omaha, Cleveland, Atlanta

Gremy, Murmansk

Aoba, Minekaze

Omaha and Minekaze have to be my two favorites.

I use the report every time i see someone hogging down the blue line on purpose which hides half of the ship from damage. I always call out the blue line runners in chat in 'All' mode, once they get called out it can be surprising how many people then pipe up and tell them to play right or nick of biggrin Compliment i have used a fair bit as well, i generally use up my three a day deal smile

Re: World of Warships - 07/28/15 11:41 PM

'Blue line runners'? I'd never heard of that tbh.I've seen people do it but I thought that they had just run into the line accidentally whilst concentrating on fire control. I've done it myself but always get off it asap.

Re: World of Warships - 07/29/15 11:52 PM

Plenty of them on the asia/oceania servers that i use, have seen one in at least every second or third match. Mainly battleships, rarely cruisers. What they don't seem to realise is that because they are running a perfectly straight line it makes it very easy to hit the half of the ship that you can damage smile I make it a point to go after these guys if i see them ..probably shouldn't let it wind me up so much honestly biggrin

Just a little heads-up that there is a gift for you to fetch till the 8th of August, the USS Albany:
Anniversary gift (EU)
Anniversary gift (US)

This is what the Mighty Jingles thinks of this ship:

So the real "goody" is the port slot that you get along with the ship, and the ~300k silver credits when you sell it wink

If you're running Eyefinity or surround, don't. I had that problem with my triple screen setup. Had to just run on one monitor.

Found in "preferences.xml"

Is anybody out there having the same problem as me in that you keep having too many friends want to play this game and the game cannot handle it. This game is causing rifts between my normal playing group because 3 per division either causes cross talk, friends excluding other friends or friends to not want to play it because of this.

It seems to be a loners game or best buddy only game..

Re: World of Warships - 08/10/15 07:21 AM

For now with the "standard" random battles I think three maximum and only one carrier per division is a good thing - a well-organized bigger division would just crush the enemy.
I think I read that fleet events and such things are planned to be supported in the future.
Another issue might be that matchmaking might be troubled as well with bigger divisions this early, because you would find even more "fail platoons" spanning over three or more tiers.

Look at what happened in MWO with 12 man premades. It's not fun to get rolled over it no time at all.

Re: World of Warships - 08/11/15 01:13 AM

The solution to this sort of thing is to have larger battles.... instead of 12 perhaps 36 per side. But that would look silly from a historical standpoint unless 20 of those ships were cruisers and DDs.
As for mech I think 36 per side would allow people to play with their friends (not many people actually have more than 12 actual friends that they talk to outside of games online at once).

Mech's main problem at the moment is that the ELO system does not work because the community is way too small. This may change soon with the steam release.

Another even easier solution is to allow what used to happen in games.... A GAME LOBBY - you know.... where people can allow people to join games they set up.... this way negotiation can happen to even teams. Generally also you can see when one side is stacked and tell the other team that they are not going to get anybody playing them this way.

twoweeks

The 3Mio are welcome, as I am currently with three ships at tier 8. On a standard account those are still reasonably profitable, but maybe just enough to earn and support one T9 ship...

I guess they have to release the game to keep the promise that it will be launched with two nations - the German cruisers are meant to come in October

Re: World of Warships - 09/11/15 03:39 AM

I'm trying to decide what to bring to ranked battles. I sold my Cleveland to give the Pensecola a shot but i don't know if i will have it all upgraded in time and then i don't think it will be competetive enough against the plethora of Clevelands anyway. So i may not worry about a cruiser for the US side.

DD side i grabbed the Hatsuharu..terrible. Not enough of an improvement over the Mutsuki at all, worse detection range which is all you have in the DD class so i sold her and grabbed me Mutsy back and made sure to keep it with the 4 guns and not worry about the AA upgrade hull. In DD combat those 4 guns make a huge difference and i noticed the lack of them when i upgraded. Still working for the Farragut for US DD line.

BB's i am working the Colorado and the Kongo, should have the Fuso in time and hopefully upgraded as well. Definitely won't be taking the Colorado so i will have to repurchase the New mexico..shouldn't have sold her.

IJN cruiser i have the Aoba maxed and will maybe make the Myoko in time. The Aoba has turned out to be a rather nice Cleveland killer.

CV's, sold my Independence, not interested in them atm.

So - Mutsuki/Farragut- Aoba/Myoko- New Mexico/Fuso are about my thoughts atm. What's everyone else bringing to the party ?

Re: World of Warships - 09/11/15 08:36 AM

I hadn't really thought about it.I'm amassing a credit mountain because I like to play the same ships over and over again rather than researching.

I like American Cruisers and Japanese DD's.The Cleveland is as far as I have researched the CA line but I do have the premium Atlanta. On the DD line the Mutsuki is as far as I've got however I much prefer the Isokaze and Minekaze.

What tiers will be allowed into ranked battles?
Posted By: WhoCares

Re: World of Warships - 09/11/15 08:38 AM

(didn't test rank battle in the public test server!)
The only ship that I have in tier level 6/7 is the Myoko, which I have "elited" for quite a while already (>170 battles and earned already >150k exp. after I unlocked the Mogami).
I just wonder what should be the motivation to play the ranked battles. When you reach a certain rank, you get the flags and stuff. But as I understand it, that's a one-time "bonus", so once you reach "your" top rank, I see little benefit to play ranked battles. Competition is harder than standard, targets=damage potential is lower (7 ships instead of 12), which may also affect your income potential.

Time should not be an issue - you can always play random battles until you deem you and your ship fit for ranked battles. Au contraire - if you wait a days/weeks, the pro players should have ranked up already, giving you an easier time marching through the lower ranks wink

I am jumping in day one of ranked, i'd like to see how i fare against some (hopefully) better competition than the standard pub battle smile I'm not fussed about earnings as such at the tiers six and seven. I prefer a good game over all the money and flags and whatever.

New Mexico, Fuso (should have it tonight or tomorrow) Aoba and Mutsuki will be my ships for ranked to strat with and then the Myoko next, looking forward to her as i'm finding the Aoba an awesome bit of gear.

I think initially there will be a lot of players in ranked so should be plenty of kills initially in the early rank battles, mid rank is where it will get interesting.
Posted By: Ajay

Re: World of Warships - 09/18/15 04:31 AM

Aoba and Fuso it ended up being..6 straight losses followed by five straight wins when i took my Mutsuki. Caps win. It's that easy. Once you take care of the other teams DD and keep plinking torps at any ships coming at cap you can grab two caps easily. With less ships around it's a DD paradise. American BB's need not apply, too slow unless you want to get in and dirty and risk the DD's or Aoba and Myoko torps. The IJN BB's speed is king here as far as BB's go. Clevelands haven't been to prevalent and seeing a hell of a lot more IJN cruisers than i thought i would. CV's are only in about every third or so match so not worrying about air has been cool, seems not to many want to queue with CV's.

I've won 5 lost 2 so far.Have you noticed any difference in player skills? With only 7 ranked games under my belt I can't form an opinion but I have noticed that there tend to be no early kills.

About the lack of CV's.I have 2 'Sky in Flames' missions, one of which I've had for at least a week.Every time I bring my Cleveland or Atlanta to a battle there are no CV's.It's a conspiracy I tell you.

Re: World of Warships - 09/18/15 01:51 PM

The wins I've had were teams that understood that it's a capping game first, kills second. The ones that split up and go for primarily kills lose every time.
Maybe some are tripped up by the 800 point win, or they just don't listen.

Re: World of Warships - 09/18/15 02:17 PM

How many times do you see players making a bee-line for the enemy carrier as soon as they're spotted? It's like a blood lust and nothing else matters, even throwing the game.I will always try to cap, even in my BB.Screw sitting on the outside of the map raining long-range fire on anything that moves,I'll risk the torps of DD's and CA's anytime.
Posted By: KRT_Bong

Re: World of Warships - 09/18/15 03:45 PM

I would like to see them implement a way to have more than three people join together, not necessarily more than 3 in a division but have divisions join with other divisions as a coalition and against other coalitions in matches. My roommates and I all play but we have other friends who play and we have to rotate out who plays on the team.

If we could get 4 it would be good and wouldn't give any group too much influence.

What I hate is BB's that circle endlessly. I know the turrets move slow, but they still need to cap sometimes and get in the action. Too many times they have been riding the edge of the map too far out of play to get the team an easy win.

The first bunch of games to rank 20-19 it seemed to be luck on who won, still lots of random lone wolfing and such. 18 down got tighter and now at 15 the last four games have been really good, plenty of team talk in every game and no lone wolves. Clevelands cannot bring down the fire they normally do because they get concentrated on and most of the Clevos i see have been on the run or hiding behind an island. The IJN cruisers are faring batter owing to the threat of torps imo. BB's are dominating now but most matches are still won of the back of that early DD cap fight, then it is just holding.

Fuso seems to be the better big gun to bring and then the Nagato followed by the Myoko..not far now smile. Kills are way down for me, only averaging one in every three matches with about 28k average damage a game. CV's are down, most matches i am playing are non cv, which is great because i am using my Fuso mostly, no TB's or DB's makes it soooo much nicer as a BB driver.

Definitely better than the random matches, it was like when the SB events got added to WT GF. Going into random now feels like there are too many ships ! So many targets i don't know where to shoot lol.

Edit- Stuck at Rank 13- 4 battles to progress to next rank. Win three, lose one, win one , lose two, win one, lose one, win two...lose two biggrin Pretty much been playing with a lot of the same group all night and we have had some had some epic battles. Every win is hard fought, good gaming smile

Re: World of Warships - 09/22/15 01:58 PM

Meanwhile at rank 15 wounded 11 losses for 6 wins tonight. Been getting absolutely pasted and trying to tell my fellow BB's that long range doesn't cut it in ranked..my Fuso goes alright but she is no good against two Nagato's and a New Mexico at 10-12 k's by herself. If i keep going like this i can work back to 20 and start afresh biggrin

Couple of really good guys in the SEA server that citadel nearly every salvo in their Nagatos, scary stuff when you lose over 30k in the first round of trading shots.

Re: World of Warships - 09/22/15 03:07 PM

I just reached rank 16 after 27 battles in my (t)rusty Myoko (20 victories, 7 defeats).
As I see it, it is essential that the cruisers support your DDs and kill the enemy DDs. And to me it also seems to be advantageous to start with the bases that have fairly open see on your side. this also makes the first point easier, supporting/killing DDs. And don't get lost behind big high islands - esp. the slow American BBs will deprive the team of some desperately needed firepower around the bases, if they spend some minutes behind big islands (e.g. far left and right on the New Dawn map). If an enemy goes there just ignore him and be happy that he will not be able to fire for some time...

Re: World of Warships - 09/24/15 01:10 PM

Yep, BB's are totally wasted unless they are able to fire pretty much non stop. I can't seem to pull myself out of the 15-14-15-14 trap atm, 7 losses 5 defeats so far tonight and overall i have gone from being 15 matches in wins ahead to one loss behind. Sold the Aoba and grabbed the Myoki, very nice ship and deals good damage, look forward to the hull and torps upgrades..i'm not going to bed until i pull even tonight though biggrin

Going to give the ranked battles a try this weekend. I am only about 14k from a Nagato and I'm curious how much better it might fare over my Fuso?

I dumped my USN cruiser for the carriers. Though still on the Langley, I seem to be doing much better with carriers than any other type of ship.

Wowser brother! Can I be on your team? Great score!

I am currently trying to get the hang of American DD's and going from the IJN line to the US line, completely different playstyles. I think I will max the US line at tier 5 and finish the IJN line to tier 10. I know the US line gets much better after tier 8, but the grind is brutal. WG really needs a 5x weekend. However, with the pending RUS and GER lines coming 15 October, I may have to hold my free EXP for a quick progress up their trees to at least a tier 6.

Thanks Strykerpsg,I have my moments. Not as often as I would like and at higher tier levels that sort of score has eluded me so far.

I love playing the lower tier Jap DD's,The Isokaze and Minikaze are my favourite.

No problem with the compliment brother. I too prefer the lower tier DD fights, admittedly more IJN than US. I totally suck transitioning to the US line....I know they get better after tier 8, but so do the IJN DD's.

Anyway, keep taking the fight to the red team.

Re: World of Warships - 09/28/15 09:40 AM

Good kill sheet Chucksta, 6 is still my highest as well. Best in ranked is a hard fought three..and still a loss biggrin

Re DD's. US are great for the constant pew pew and being constantly stealth shot is one of the most annoying things as a BB for me. I have researched the Farragut but haven't shelled out for it yet, having too much fun in the Nicholas hunting IJN DD's. Mutsy is nice in ranked, loy of good DD players in there and have had some epic battles.

With the Jerry line coming i really only want the Bismark and hopefully Graf Spee is she is an option, more because of the historical side of it. Not really looking forward to that Bismark grind and i will have to stay focused and not branch of too much into the cruisers and DD's. US BB line i am not that keen on highest tiers, the battles i have been in with mainly tier nine or ten stuff are rather boring compared to battles up to tier 7 but i may get that North Carolina if i can find the stomach to keep grinding the Colorado. Be nice to finally have a US bb with some speed. IJN BB's i would like the Yamato just because it the biggest baddest thing out there smile but same..the grind. Fuso is beautiful, much better than the Kongo. I really wish the RN tree would come sooner as i don't know if the game with it's play modes can hold me until then if it is mid next year or later.

Back to the ranked..still locked at Tier 13 and two stars...

US DD's, just had this one as a closeout battle for the night in my Nic in random, nothing great but note the amount of hits and lack of torps fired biggrin. Sit behind that smoke and pew pew, then just move around when it diminishes and never stop firing. Keep Clevos at 10-11 k's and they are easy to dodge their rain of fire.

It's nice to jump in the US DD's afetr a while in IJN, sometimes i prefer those guns over the stealth and torps on the IJN ones..they just make you smile lol.

Damn, finally got a small streak on and made it to Rank 11. with the latest patch they added the really annoying voice commands, get rid of them HERE. Basically just replaces the commands audio file with a blank file and although you will still see the spammy messaging you won't hear it. Doesn't affect any of the other commands in game like Torps direct ahead etc. I put a few he rounds into a South Carolina with my vaunted Albany after he wouldn't shut up in my warm up match biggrin very satisfying, instantly downloaded the mod for the next game.

American DD Captains lead a dangerous life at lower tiers. It's those useless torpedoes with their 4k range when the ship can be spotted at 6k+.

Switch to Japanese DD's for an easier life wink

Oh, I have. Love those things, but it's getting through the grind of the lower American DD's to get to the higher ones. I guess I could just skip them and use my extra XP to bypass...

I freaking love the Japanese DD's... Until one of my teammates pulls a 180 right in front of the torpedoes I've launched perfectly at an enemy CA/ BB that's lost its steering and engines... That's only happened two or three times over the weekend...

Yeah I sunk a teammate in a Cruiser with my Japanese Tier 3 DD the other night too, I was trying to help him fight another cruiser at close range and I had a perfect torpedo salvo going toward the enemy from 6km out when my team mate suddenly turned right into my torpedos and took 3 sinking him, I told him sorry on chat but he said not my fault his rudder took damage and jammed so he looped right into my torps.

Hope that wasn't enough to make me pink next time I play that DD, next time I will not assume my teammates will stay on course, at least I avenged him with my next salvo.

US DD's are all about the guns, i sometimes forget i even have torps. In an IJN DD you can be smashed by three or four quick firing salvos from a US DD and as the US DD you have to risk it a bit more by getting in closer to spot the IJN. Once the IJN has dropped and you avoid them you can basically guarantee yourself a kill. I went IJN early because off the larger stealth zone for torp usage but then went back to the US line after the somewhat boring gameplay in the Mutsy and the total yawn of the Hatsuharu. The Lack of decent guns on the IJN line can be a pain when you really need them imo and the US DD's are total opposite.

My Nicholas KD is 1.9 and my (sold) Minekaze is 1.8 which were my two favourites of the different lines. Only just moved into the Farragut and really liking her atm. Once you get the hang of the US DD's you will be golden Nuke smile

LOL! I hear ya...I am in the same boat, plenty of doubloons available but only about 170k EXP sitting in my account. I too think I will push and save for the German line too. By the time they release, I may have enough EXP to make it to tier 8.

Sorry to pour some salt into your soup - on 19th they release just the German cruiser line. And you will quickly use up those credits once you reach Tier 8/9 anyway. I have two T9s (Iowa & Kagero, also unlocked Ibuki, but don't know whether I will ever buy it), and by the time I had outfit Iowa with upgrades etc. I had to play some lower tier games to get enough for Kagero. Even skipped the second hull of the Iowa and went straight for the final one to save 3.5 million...

Re: World of Warships - 10/13/15 06:19 AM

That works out OK as i don't have enough free xp to smash up the line yet and i guess i am going to need upwards of 30+ at least to zoom to the Bismark plus a ton of xp. I don't think i am going to worry much about Tier 8 and upwards in IJN and USN, every battle i have been thrown into that is 8 and above are fairly tame compared to 7 and below. I would like to give the Yamato a run one day but i don't think i could suffer the grind smile

There is an event running at the moment which can get you a head start on the German cruiser line or Russian DD line HERE

edit- got the Ognevoi with my Nicholas. Got thrown into an easy match versus Wyomings, New Yorks, Isokazes and Umikaze's which made things easy.

1xp and 1silver per upgrade..if only. 4 k torp range with a 7.7 detect range..should be fun skyisfalling

Double edit biggrin Grabbed the Konigsberg with a 6 kill Isokaze match lol. Got greedy going for number seven and walked into a wall of torps that were easily avoided..but the blood lust was up and brain was disengaged.

Weird looking thing with the rear offset main guns, now time to go for a cruise.

The Ognevoi is TERRIBLE..as far as DD's go imo anyway. Give me my Nicholas or mid tier IJN DD's any day of the week. First match, first hit i lost my rear mains..that's half my guns out of action instantly and with 4 k torps i was relegated to spotting. Second match i somehow managed a kill but lost my engines three times in about 4 minutes and on the third repair lost them for a fourth time and was relegated to a floating target pummeled down to Daveys.

Last edit- Two games in..

Konigsberg..

I see a nerf in the future

Re: World of Warships - 10/19/15 03:00 PM

Every one seem to have a lot of fun with that game. I must admit that it is more fun than WOT.

And since I don't know much about surface ships in real life, it seems like a decent game. Then, the separation of tasks is very clear and necessary.

Moreover, the introduction of "ranked battles" limited to 7 players on each side for ships of Tier VI and VII only, is a different game play from "random battles". http://worldofwarships.com/en/news/common/naval-academy-ranked-battles/

I really appreciate confrontations on open seas, where naval strategies and formation are important.

And today with the new version patch, is the introduction of Soviet and German ship lines. There are now four countries represented, USA, JAPAN, RUSSIA and GERMANY. That should be be interesting.

I am waiting for the introduction of submarines.

Re: World of Warships - 10/21/15 09:52 AM

Really ? Everything i have seen states 'never any subs'. I don't think the maps or the gameplay would be any good for subs myself, slow, super easy to shoot slow targets, once spotted a sub would have sfa chance to evade, they would need to be super unrealistic to have a chance against the DD's and cruisers and constant spotting by aircraft.

Worked fine in Battlestations, but that game had a lot more going for it.

All I have read are unfounded posts from players that don't understand how submarines operate. Some posters make the mistake to believe that their extended knowledge of WOT, make them specialist in ASW. They have a visceral fear that the subs will modify their high octane gameplay.

The speed of a target is irrelevant if it remains undetected, you only shoot at what you see. The dimension concerning depth and thermal layers is not unrealistic.

Once the subs will be introduced and played then posts addressing its viability will be founded.

As Raw Kriptonite mentioned it worked in "Battlestations".
Posted By: Ajay

Re: World of Warships - 10/23/15 12:24 PM

Tier 7ish when uptiered and onwards is anything but high octane biggrin I have pretty much found it a snooze fest owing to the grind nature of the game and nearly all except the rushers not wanting to lose your ship lest you be burdened with a bill, and worse , sh&t stats.

Have you jumped into free view and checked out under the water ? There is none. I would imagine they would have to update the engine to include layers and such and like i said over realistically add speed to the subs to make them 'balanced' to fit the game play of WoWs.

With an Isokaze (or any tier4-6 DD) i can easily control a flank, dodge torps and incoming shells, hide behind a smokescreen and negate two or three battleships and a cruiser just by being there. Putting three plus ships to the bottom is a give in for a half decent player in every game at this tier in DD's. Throw a sub into the mix and he better be doing at least 20 plus knots under two layers with a boatload of stealth captain skills or that dude is dead meat if they give me depth charges on top of what i already have offensively.

We use the SimHQ TS server. You can either create a custom channel for the session or we use the 2nd MWO channel if we've come from playing that.
I wish we could run the game with more than 3 players, but sometimes we have 2 groups going and just stay on the same TS channel, like we were doing in that video. It isn't too confusing with just a few people on.

We do the same with Armored Warfare. Join us anytime! We can have a few more people in AW, we run mostly PvE, but also some PvP.

Thanks for the invite. I recently re-installed and set up TS3 to fully enjoy communicating rather than typing. I was helped thru the process by Bohemond and we slogged it out a few times in the pub matches. It was a much better experience than typing and screaming at the monitor. The amount of new flags, missions and challenges are making it pretty easy to keep on top with credits though. Hope they get some Royal Navy out the door early into the year, i am nearly as far as i want to go in the game besides the Yamato and need some British sea power!

That's a good one,thanks Discord.

I'm quite pleased with my stats considering how bad I am at WoT etc. My avg win rate is 51.57% with only my survival rate and planes shot down letting me down.My avg capture is way above avg though.I have always struggled to get a good clutch of planes even though the Cleveland is one of my most played ships.I'm currently trying to complete one of the challenges where I need 100 planes.I have 25 so far and 2 days to get them plus I still need to finish the 3rd part of that challenge.

It's like the game is conspiring against me whenever I want to shoot down planes,I never seem to get into a battle with CV's.

Re: World of Warships - 01/04/16 12:41 PM

Cv's are a massive rarity atm around 6 and up until you get to 9/10 where you may see one every now and again. I drop the plane challenge/mission as it is it painful to achieve compared to all of the others. Below 6 i only play my Isokaze, Emden and Albany for kicks so planes don't matter there with those ships anyway.I bet the next patch has a CV buff to get the planes back in the air for the mid to highish tiers.

Re: World of Warships - 01/04/16 02:17 PM

I hope so.I always change the daily mission if it involves aircraft.I didn't realise this challenge included aircraft or I wouldn't have bothered.

A big part of the problem is the Cleveland. Its AAA is so good, it makes putting any Tier V-VI planes in the air near it suicide. Put 3-5 of them in a battle (which I see more often than not), and you might as well not bring a carrier.

They did already buff the planes a little bit (at least, it seems dive bombers actually do some damage now), but I am not sure it is enough to make them fun.

Re: World of Warships - 01/15/16 11:54 AM

2 days ago I think I had the worst session of WoWs ever.

Today is a different day,my first 7 haul.I rather stupidly fell to a torp from a Kuma otherwise I felt I could have done more.I've been playing just BB's and CA's for ages but I'm after a 'Challenge Mission' so brought out the trusty Isokaze smile

At these lower tier games I find that BB's don't take much evasive action and even if I am spotted they just steam straight ahead oblivious to my presence.Thank you BB captains, may you sail straight and true!

Re: World of Warships - 01/20/16 02:40 PM

Nice work and a good haul, the Iso is a lovely little ship! I was thinking of going back and playing some of my earlier US BB's for fun. I didn't really know about citadels then, straight line sailing, captain skills and upgrades etc, i would like to see how better an experience they can be with a bit of seamanship under ones belt smile

Have you done any of the ranked matches at all?
Posted By: Chucky

Re: World of Warships - 01/20/16 05:12 PM

Not many,I play random almost exclusively.

If you understand about citadel hits you can have a lot of fun.I destroyed a full health Jap cruiser the other day with one salvo of AP after watching a video on citadel hits by iChase Gaming. He called me 'lucky' but I was aiming in the right place using the right ammo biggrin

The thing is the ships are modelled pretty accurately with regards to critical internal components.Take the Cleveland for example, the boiler room for the front funnel isn't where you think it is.Once you know you can aim for that spot.

I still play the early American BB's,I have a Colorado but still play the New York a fair bit plus the Arkansas Beta.

My most played ships are Atlanta,Cleveland,Omaha and then the Imperator Nikolai, with the Isokaze and Minekaze not far behind.I have 122 battles in the Imperator with a 67.2% win rate,my best for any ship with any decent amount of battles under their belt.

What an amazing battle! Today I had some decent success with my latest German cruiser:

Re: World of Warships - 01/27/16 11:41 AM

That's a decent haul Argon yep

Has anyone completed either the Kongo or the Myoko Challenge yet?

I have the Kongo although I have no idea what the ARP thing is about other than my ship is now crewed by Japanese schoolgirls dizzy

I just need another 500k damage to get the Myoko.

Gentlemen,cover your eyes...

And now the Myoko... Very 'Hello Kitty' I think.

Posted By: NavyNuke99

Re: World of Warships - 01/28/16 02:23 PM

I'm working on the Kongo challenge now- I guess I'm going to have to bite the bullet and pick up a carrier to knock out the "shoot down 150 planes" bit, since overall, I have a whopping total of 35 planes shot down. Since I started playing.

Just got a Cleveland and am eyeing the Nurnberg, so I might see about trying the Myoko as well, but I know I'm already starting from behind.

Anybody doing the Project R missions?
Posted By: Chucky

Re: World of Warships - 01/28/16 05:37 PM

I did my 150 planes with the Cleveland and Atlanta,I've never played CV's. It was a long slog.Wait until you do the Myoko challenge.300 ship fires. That gets a little tedious too.

I'd love to try CV's and I would if only I could practice in solo first rather than have my whole team tell me I'm a noob/un-install game etc etc...

Re: World of Warships - 01/28/16 06:03 PM

Made it to rank 1 in season 2, I felt season 3 of ranked battles came a bit early. As such I did the ARP challenges, reached Kongo first; considered the 300 fires for the Myoko hardest. After that I started collecting pearls for Project R - am now at 169 pearls (not doing CVs and don't have a tier 3). After I finished the tier specific missions I also started ranked again - in the last two days went from 10.1 to 6.1.
Am I an addict? ahoy

Nah, you can stop at any time. wink

I did the tier 3 in a Derzki- I honestly felt a bit like I was clubbing baby seals- I'd hide out in island maps, wait for unsuspecting STL's, SC's, or Kawachi's to drive by, and spam them with all 10 torpedoes at once. Only got accused of hacking a couple of times.

Re: World of Warships - 01/28/16 10:46 PM

Today I went down to 7.1 and am now back up at 6.1; ah well, didn't really think I am a 70% player anyway, 63% is also fine smile

Yeah, same applies to Emden, and with the ARP Kongo with >70k I have a similar damage output as with the Iowa...
I am actually thinking of starting the japanese BB line, but as I am stuck in ranked right now that doesn't fit very well...

Re: World of Warships - 01/30/16 10:58 AM

Just started CV's in the hope that I can complete the 'Fly my pretties'! challenge.I'm on stage 3 but 30 aircraft,a win and 3 ships is a little much for the Langley and this noob captain.

All of a sudden I have too much to do playing CV's.I'm not sure if I will ever get to grips with it and I'm sure the BB captain was laughing his ass off last night when I had a certain kill and a match-winning chance and managed to put all the torps about 500 yards behind him banghead

I watched loads of 'how-to' vids too but in practice I'm struggling with the aim mechanics somewhat.

With the Karlsruhe light cruiser, probably one of the worst ships in the game right now. The chat was a total hoot! biggrin

We still lost the game, of course...

Re: World of Warships - 02/06/16 07:30 PM

Holy crap, Para! I used free XP to bypass the Karlsruhe because I hated it that much. Respect! Did you get a replay of that match?
Posted By: Para_Bellum

Re: World of Warships - 02/07/16 11:19 AM

No replay unfortunately, I've never bothered to turn this feature on. sigh

I think the enemy team just didn't realize what I was doing to them. I literally held one side of the Straits map against half the enemy team all by myself. The fact that the enemy team didn't manage to coordinate their actions certainly helped.

I'm now in the Königsberg, a really nice cruiser. And don't miss the ol' Karlsruhe one bit... biggrin

And yeah, looking forward to playing with RN ships, too.

What was this pearl mining event? I had a look on the WG web-site but couldn't work out what I had to do?
Posted By: NavyNuke99

Re: World of Warships - 02/09/16 08:03 PM

All you had to do was go to the "Project R" site and sign up.

http://worldofwarships.com/en/project_r

Basically, complete x missions to earn x number of pearls, and if the total number of pearls earned hits 6 million, everybody who hits the magic number of 260 pearls collected gets a free Kamikaze- class Tier V DD.

The contest is due to end this week based on the pacing, but you might be able to get some of the perks if you sign up between now and say, Thursday.

Re: World of Warships - 05/18/16 01:21 PM

New ranked battle coming soon, tiers 5/6/7..but not sure how it is going to pan out. The new anti DD radar has made life harder lately and i'm not buying a Prem ship just to be competitive ..maybe, the Molotov is only 25 nicka wink After 3k battles i will finally have my first tier ten on friday, the Gearing DD. If i wasn't grinding 8 or 9 different lines at a time i probably could have had her sooner..man...the grinds dizzy Then the ARP challenges, two lots of 3k fires on the fourth challenges really drained me, still enjoying the game though, tier 8/9 isn't as weak as i thought it would be, plenty of action.

As Chucky said..avert your eyes..

Not a bad little free fleet-Albany and Emden were giveaways, Kamikaze R was the pearl comp and the ARPS were all challenges. Had to go back and rebuy the Hatsuharu so i can grind the Fubuki. Rebrought the Colorado, she is nasty, take her over the Nagato or Amagi any day, also rebrought the Wyoming..the thing is a beast at it's tier once you have some BB experience.

Missed out on one of the ARP Myoko's, a ship i don't really like anyway, i prefer my Pensecola even though she gets spotted so easily and citadels like a rowboat. The guns are lovely though and i'm holding off buying the New Orleans until i grind the second hulls worth of free xp.

Fletcher, Benson, Kamikaze and Hats all have 15 point Captains and are my go to boats at the moment, really didn't think i would like the game so much..thanks Chuck!
Posted By: Chucky

Re: World of Warships - 05/18/16 02:31 PM

Ajay! I thought I was the only one still playing WoWs!

I did buy the T8 Mikhail Kutuzov after watching a Jingles video on it.She has great AAA,good main gun range (over 19k) and 10k torpedoes.Plus with smoke you can slow down, pop smoke and stealth fire. But of course like all cruisers she can't take a beating.

I have hardly advanced up the tiers really as I enjoy playing the ships I have, the Atlanta especially (nearly 400 games).I have probably 70 million credits, all earned,I don't buy credits unless it's part of a ship deal and a reasonable amount of experience (I play a lot of prem ships) that needs real cash to convert to free exp.

I have the Baltimore in my sights next.I really didn't like the Pensacola or the New Orleans that much.Next BB will be the North Carolina. As for DD's,I have the Hatsu but don't play it that much.I still like the Isokaze and Minekaze the most.

As for Carriers.Tried it don't like it at all.

There is one aspect of the game I can't get to grips with and that is captains. When I see people play it on YT they always have ships that have no captain available.I never swap mine.Should I?

*edit* May as well post up my ships.

Posted By: Ajay

Re: World of Warships - 05/19/16 03:45 AM

70 Mill..holy #%&*$# dude biggrin Whenever i get around 10-15 i get itchy feet and end up buying a ship or some modules, then have to grind again. The only reason my Mogami doesn't have a Captain is because i did a bit of rearranging, Mog went to Kami and Kami to Hats. I used to move my Captains up from ship to ship but then realised i would miss out on that free three point starter option..which is why my Amagi still only has a 14 point captain and is aaaaaages away from the next point, whilst my Benson, Iso, kami and Hats all have 15 point Caps. Not so bad in the BB's as at 14 points you have the HP option, not so good with DD's as it takes forever to get the extra 10% Stealth option which needs 15 points.

Swapping captains into and out of Prem ships costs nothing and of course prem ship training is doubled over normal ships. I imagine that's why you see the empty ships. Captains under premium retraining. I retrained my Hats and Iso captains in the Kamikaze R to halve the time smile

Re: World of Warships - 05/19/16 01:46 PM

Still in as well, >4000 battles by now. Max. credits were in the range of 50 million, now down to ~17 million after buying many discounted upgrades on ships that don't need them (need to remove them now with dubloons to make them available where I need them...), and a bunch of ships, currently "working" on US DDs, Russian Cruisers, Japanese BBs; I also already have a couple of T10s (may add a harbor shot later).
Usually I "promote" the "main" captain as I climb through a branch, e.g. in the last two weeks I marched through the US DDs up to Benson, with the "main" captain (currently level 13) always transfered to the newest ship. But I kept Farragut and Mahan, with two "junior" captains starting to train up. April's Fool captains helped to fill the ranks...

My main "occupation the last week and the last two months respectively. And busy collecting diamonds in the Grand Naval Battles event on the european server.

Re: World of Warships - 05/19/16 03:40 PM

My main failing at captain training was allocating the incorrect skills.I thought I was right but after watching players like iChase and Aerroon I can see why they chose the ones they did.Now of course I have to use real money to re-allocate the skills.I wish I could use credits instead, got plenty of that...

Re: World of Warships - 05/19/16 05:25 PM

In that WG failed for me when they allowed us to respec all captain with 0.5.0 (iirc), as now I am sitting on a Shimakaze captain with Torpedo Accelleration skill, which is not very useful since 0.5.5... I don't mind to respec a captain for doubloons occasionally (e.g. once the Benson captain hits 15 points), but not in this special case...

Here my port, 4 T10:

I try to keep me premiums for captain retraining, that's why I invested some diamonds into the Smith, the Tirpitz is used for earning credits.

I don't have the Russian tier 10 cruiser, so I can't really comment on it wink
Or said differently, I don't have the tier 10 ship of the Russian cruiser line, the Moskva. But the Russian tier 10 destroyer Khabarovsk plays very much like a powerful light cruiser - 4x2 130mm accurate rapid fire guns with a significant stealth firing range. Plays more like a sealth CL with the agility of a DD.
With the Russian cruisers I am exactly where I wanted to be, at tier 8. With the upgraded hull the Chapayev gets a 11.7km/20secs radar, and with the accurate fast firing 4x3 152mm (~6") guns that can become very nasty for any capping DD. But the glass cannon characteristic is the same as with its predecessors - it eats plenty of citadels, also from other cruisers. But at medium/short range it can dish out equally with AP - it's not just all HE (though I gave the captain the Demolition Expert skill to up the fire chance...).
I will probably also go on and research the tier 9 (Dimitri Donskoi) and the Moskva, but I am not in a hurry. Similarly as with the Japanese cruisers - I have unlocked the Ibuki since several months (long before the Mogami got nerfed), but I am not "convinced". I think the Myoko is the "sweet spot" in this line (though the Zao looks intriguing), as you probably can tell from the >500k experience after I "elited" it (>300 battles).
I would probably say the same thing of Budyonny (T6) and/or Shchors (T7) - both great (borderline OP) ships for their tiers. If it wasn't for the radar, I would probably stay with those. But radar is well worth it, though the Chapayev faces tougher competition; not so much in the other tier 8 cruisers, but in its general tier 8-10 matchmaking. After that DimDom gets heavier but slower 4x3 180mm guns and a very high detectability rating - so not much of a DD hunter. Moskva gets the heaviest cruiser guns (220mm), but also battleship detectability. Not bad ships as far as I can tell, but I am not thrilled either to rush to them.

Instead I will focus on getting the Yamato (240k exp. to go, and no, I will not use my free exp. for it). And I started with the US DDs about two weeks ago - and I love them, pure action ships...

Thanks for the feedback on the cruisers. I have seen other feedback about the Russian DD line and want to finish their line too, currently sitting at tier VII, just such a grind after VI and up.

I stopped at Mogami on the IJN cruiser line. It was the last line I was working before taking about 5 months of a break and seeking post military work. I don't think I will go back to IJN till I complete the Russian DD and CL lines to tier X.

Anyway, always enjoy seeing the SIMHQ crowd in WoWs and Armored Warfare.

I am having a lot of fun with it. It is more of a kid Arcade game than a simulation, but it has great graphics, and it help clear the mind after intense work sessions.

For random battles:

Battles played: 3504 Victories: 54% XP:872 Most ship destroyed in one battle: 9 Destruction ratio: 1.47

It can be a lot of fun especially when some innocent players wish you "Good LUCK and fair seas"

Bohemond, we will have to get back on TS again and link up. I recently got the Mahan and finished kitting out the Mogami and Nagato, so my highest tier is also VII, though have a few premium Tier VIII's that hit pretty hard too.

Re: World of Warships - 06/03/16 08:13 AM

Looks like we all have very similar stats, up and down in a few areas due to ships preferred and probably plays styles, but all pretty close, we would make a good team in ranked smile

Team Battles are awesome, just ranked without the flags and rewards. Biggest problem is you see 1 cv per side a lot. The advantage is huge and needs to be sorted, i managed a seven run streak in a team with no cv facing a cv every time, no fun at all lol. Took my Hats out for 3 runs which dropped my damage right down unfortunately but went for a cap style play instead of BB main. Averaging around 85-90k a match in the Colorado and using her in the upcoming ranked, she is a beast since she got the needed buff. Pre patch i was lucky to get near 50k average and since it's been at 80 plus in random. She doesn't fair well against CV's and tier 9 battles, too slow. Still etter tanking than any of the IJN up to and including the Amagi, better guns than all of the IJN BB's imo and far better in close.

Ranked in a few days, gonna be awesome. I think of few of the IJN BB guys are in for a nasty surprise this time, a lot of Colorados in team battles honing their skills. Nagato --->boom<---Colorado biggrin

Anyone managed to get a game with a YouTuber/streamer yet?

Today I found myself in a Random Battle with 'Flamu'.I was in my Atlanta and he was in a Scharnhorst.I did engage him briefly but only because he came into range.I'm not one of those players that as soon as they see someone 'famous', goes hell for leather after them.

He did his best to end me but I ran, which is all you can do in the Atlanta when faced with BB's.

It won't make it to his next video I'm sure,as they lost.

Now all I need to do is get into a game with The Mighty Jingles and that would make my day/week/year.

Re: World of Warships - 08/05/16 03:56 PM

I also already met Flamu a few times, usually in division with "flamousz" or so. Saw some others as well, e.g. Dropsiq, and WoWs forum regulars/contributors/..., like Carnotzet, mtm78, and several others.
You will have a hard time realizing that you play with Jingles, as he changed his in-game nickname for exactly that reason, griefers that hunt him down, enemies and even (not so) friendlies.
Not sure how popular WoWs is with US Youtubers/streamers - in general the game seems not that overly popular among US gamers, which might make it also less attractive to those that make a living out of such activities...

Re: World of Warships - 08/05/16 05:10 PM

Yeah,I think Jingles is 'BrazenF1' or something.I'll never understand why players have to be dicks to them,I know that's why he gave up streaming and I don't blame him.

Still here and sailing along, made it to 5 in ranked and called it after peaking at 4.2. Too painful going 4-5-4-5-4-5-4. Colorado was a boss though but it turned in a hardcore DD fest which was annoying. Waiting on that German BB line so i can finally go for a ride in the Bismark and then the RN line, will be nice to finally have some RN vs Kriegsmarine battles.

Re: World of Warships - 08/08/16 02:51 PM

Ok,I was wrong.Flamu did put it up on YT.Very odd to see myself in a game.Pity I didn't have a better result.(I was in the enemy Atlanta)

Flamu's thoughts on the Scharnhorst...

Re: World of Warships - 08/13/16 08:41 AM

Saw a Bismark in Randoms, supertester? I haven't seen that flag before in game. Put a torp into his rudder which was very satisfying biggrin He pumped me full of lead but it was a close call. Camo looks like it might be slightly historical on the starboard side but all stuffed up on the port. Fubuki has fast become my favourite DD in game, with a 5.5 conceal range, 9 torps with decent speed and good enough guns to duke with most other DD's she is my current baby.

Re: World of Warships - 08/15/16 01:27 PM

My scroll wheel is dead, waiting on a new mouse to come from the US (by way of China i suspect) so no pretty shots from me. That sinking Colorado makes me sad biggrin

Anyone tripping around in the Kagero? Wondering what your feel is on it v the Fubuki, feels like i went sideways and not up. I grabbed her tonight after a pretty good run in the Fubuki, lovely little bit of gear and probably my favourite in the IJN line overall. Didn't end up with stats as good as the Isokaze/Minekaze/Kamikaze but up against more patient players at tier 8-10 so to be expected i suppose.

Specced out with my 16 point Captain she (Kagero) gets a 5.4 conceal which is .1 better than the Fubuki at 5.5, besides having 4k more hit points the guns are lower range, turn time is slower and i'm down two torps which with only a two*four spread that gives you less options than 3*3 on Fubuki. Then of course moving up a tier gives me less cash per game. I had to sell my Mahan and Izumo to move into her and then spec it out which cost just shy of 20 mill all up. Dear little DD smile Decided i wanted to give the Shimakaze a run over the Yamato which is just a moving (constantly blazing) shell magnet anyway.

First and only game out (win) netted me 34k after tax.

One cap, three torp hits ( Izumo and North Cal) plus a couple of AP shells (had the wrong ammo loaded like a tool) on a Fletcher, Kagero and Donski for 50k damage total. Forgot my 50% xp and extra credit flags too doh. Going to be a long grind, no premium as usual because i'm a cheapskate wink I'm thinking around 200 games with at least 150 of them needing to be very good games. Fubuki was easy to top 1,2 or 3 in nearly every game and although i fluked a third out of the gate in the Kagero i don't see that being as common owing to that sluggish rudder turn. I won't be able to press as hard as you cannot get out of dodge as quick as i could in the Fubuki plus torps are over ten seconds slower on the reload. Area denial is going to be a bit harder as well. Shimakaze better be worth it.

Wyoming Bonus- I use her as a warm up game before i get my game face on (yeah right) and had this little pearler in her last night.

Sunk the langley with my last salvo and five seconds left on the clock when the match ended, last two ships alive and they were ahead on points so it ended up being a gripping (for me) match with my slow @ss Wyoming chasing a half wrecked Langley down for two minutes. Kraken +1 in the Wyoming, who would thought biggrin

Edit- just found this shot, 10 seconds on the clock, and still 1.5 seconds before three of my guns would be loaded plus flight time and 40 points in the game. Rng still could have wrecked the match for me at this point lol. No chance my other guns would have been ready in time if i spazzed out and missed lol.

I love the Scharnhorst shots! I just picked that one up last night too and after 2 battles, mine ended up in Davy's locker too. It does have a great turning radius and guns seem to reload rather quickly too.

Re: World of Warships - 08/18/16 02:20 PM

German BB's, finally some euro action. All average until the Konig imo and she is a bit of a shotgun as well. In close she hurts the IJN fairly nicely but she can be a struggler from 10k. Just jumped into the Bayern and slapped the B hull on, looks a bit Warspitey, not bad. Tier VI, starts to feel a lot better, i'm way more comfy at tierVI-VIII. Bayern puts out good damage all the way to 15ish k's, 11-13k broadsides came nicely as opposed to 840-1260 in that damn Konig at 10 lol. In saying that i managed a couple of good games in the Kaiser and the Konig but they just seem really random. AP just didn't seem to go were it should and i found aiming higher than i do with AP seemed be better than aiming at the waterline or just above like normal. The kaiser i relied on HE for my best couple of games after two total misses with broadside AP. I basically used HE all the way up until the Konig and got better damage every time.

Kaiser (all HE) i couldn't get close to a battle that good when using AP.

Konig (all AP) guns are like chalk and cheese compared to the Kaiser.

Should be a nice ride to the Bismark in the Bayern and then the Gneisenau (looking forward to her!) , had a one on one with a Gneisenau in the Colorado and it's a bloody maneuverable beast but doesn't like broadsides..at all biggrin Constant 3-4 k damage from it nearly every time she fired though which wears you down fairly quickly. Bayern feels like a baby Colorado with a bit more speed which is nice as the Col is my fave in the USN line.

My new baby.

Re: World of Warships - 08/18/16 04:33 PM

I see they've announced the RN line at last. All cruisers,6" guns, even the high tiers but they all have torps. I can't wait.I played the waiting game and now my game name means something ahoy

Posted By: Ajay

Re: World of Warships - 08/19/16 10:47 AM

From what i have read it seems this is only the light cruiser line so plenty more RN goodness to come. Be awesome if they did some match ups like WT did with events and such so we could have some strictly KM v RN battles.
Posted By: Ajay

Re: World of Warships - 08/21/16 01:57 PM

Woot, got the Gneisenau. Sleek mofo and runs fast..no brawling though. Been kiting in her mainly and running at 28-32 knots plopping shells and dodging incoming. In a turn she will hold 24-25 knots which is a change for me after soooo many battles in my old fave the Colorado. Nothing like the Bayern though, definitely cannot tank at all and she is easily pumped but the speed keeps on saving my sorry @ss smile You do notice that lack of a fourth turret as well. Finally on the 135k xp haul to the Bismark!

Re: World of Warships - 08/28/16 02:21 PM

She's a monster, love her.

Secondary build, you can take her out DD hunting and once fully upgraded you can dodge torps all day long. Finally said goodbye to my Colorado, Izumo and North Carolina to fund Kitting her all out lol. 180k damage with three close in brawls with a Tirpitz, Arizona and New Mex. You will be on fire all the time at the moment in the Bismark, she seems like the Yamato of Tier VIII, everyone want's to sink you smile Which makes for great games. Beautiful brawler though, sit back at 9 k's and the secondaries just rain away.

Re: World of Warships - 09/09/16 02:54 PM

Chuck, you must go for a run in the Bismark before she gets nerfed!I reshuffled my captain points when i hit 15 and now the secondaries rip at the 10.5 k mark. Just finished a monster game in her for me, highest damage yet, nearly woke the neighbours when i wooted at the end of the match biggrin

Nagato and myself brawling in mid cap, Atago on my opposite side, DD with the Nagato and the CV throwing planes at me popped up and got hit with thirty k damage from secondaries only while he chugged away behind an island. Good fun but i couldn't sink the bloody CV as well as dodge torps and take care of the Atago. I don't think i will top that damage score though!

edit- just checked the SEA board and that i'm sitting 6th for damage in the Bismark, chuffed smile

Much congrats Ajay...I just got my Gneissenau and haven't grinded fully through her yet, but definitely want the Bismark. I also need to work up my Captain skills so the secondaries match what you're getting. Simply amazing to have secondaries shooting 10k.....

Great score too BTW.

I did really average in the Gneissenau, most seem to like her but i just couldn't click with her for some reason. I am awaiting the secondary nerf for the Bismark, fingers crossed it doesn't happen, to much fun. You'll like her Stryker smile

Ajay,

Just got the Bismark yesterday and had enough to get the B hull as well. I won't take her out till I get the uprated engines. One question, what Captain skills are you using? I am trying to get at least a good 12 point or higher captain to use the AFT skill.

Re: World of Warships - 12/07/16 01:46 PM

USS Missouri is coming as new premium: It's about time - USS Missouri
What makes Mighty Mo magnificent?
- Double credit revenue and halved service costs.
- Two different XP-doubling permanent camouflages!
- Beefier citadel armor than her sister Iowa.
- Trades Iowa's planes in favor of radar.

And all that for 750k free experience.

Well, with >5500 battles I have ~550k free experience laying around - haven't spent much in bypassing ships/hulls/... Could convert more from "elited" and premium ships. But considering that I also have ~100kk credits, I don't really see the need for a ship that's primary benefit seems to be increased credits and experience income...

Re: World of Warships - 12/07/16 04:14 PM

I'll pass on this. The only premium BB I have is the Imperator Nikolai I. I'm a cruiser sort of guy so will look forward to burning a few of these down (hopefully).

Haven't visited here for a while smile I imagine you are sorted with skills by now anyway Stryker. I went with this for ranked, the extra HP saved my bacon a lot of times.

Changed out for this after ranked to get more out of the secondaries.

On top of that i always use - Speed flag/Secondary flag/+20% repair flag/+10% AA flag and -20%Fire flag.

Pooch, BB's are all about angling and using your HP restores at the best possibly moment. German BB's are more brawly as are USN up to the NC. Later BB's are more medium range stay away from being constantly on fire. IJN are really east to cit so try not to show broadside as much as USN or KM line. USN up to NC are terribly slow so don't extend without support if you can help it, if there is a CV's in game hang around some AA support ships. Don't be scared of DD's if you do find yourself extended, if i am and have no support i will chase them down and just bow on go at them and pray to Davy Jones to leave me be.

I am generally a fairly aggressive BB player and do not snipe at all, i will push caps and tend to play them like a big DD, my favourite line by a hair over BB's. If you do well in DD's and have a DD mindset then you have half the battle won in a BB as know how a DD will approach caps, where he will loose torps and the choke points where you do not go. Knowing reload times, amount of torps on DD's in match from the MM screen you know what you are facing when torps appear. Gunboat DD's are the worst to face owing to continuous fires and some matches you find yourself constantly running for cover just to repair before you can get back into the match.

As with most ships, i don't judge them until they are fully upgraded and i am really not comfortable in them until about twenty or so games. It all comes down to your play style i suppose. I love the power of the BB's, the repair ability, the insta delete of cruisers and brawl in close action. Absolutely hate those matches where i seem to be constantly on fire or coming into a 5-6 DD match being outiered and have cruisers that will not support. Same as most classes i suppose, pros and cons smile

My best tips for maximum fun and damage would be

Angle-fire-angle

Don't be that sniper, support or lead your team

Stay at the edge of torp range in lopsided DD matches..unless you have good support

Use repair wisely, burn for the amount of time a repair will heal

Charge smoke in fast BB's once a DD has loosed torps if all circumstances are good, e.g, you are not facing to many ships

Don't be that BB reversing on constant fire, forward/turn/chance a broadside/get outta dodge. This scenario always pains me to see

Ask for support and state your intentions on the minimap at start of match

Wait for broadsides on charging cruisers that have overextended. Also DD's. They will always broad for a torp shot

HE higher tier BB's in between AP salvos if they are good anglers

Sometimes you are just outta luck, overextended and facing too many ships, go down fighting smile

Re: World of Warships - 12/09/16 10:45 AM

I wish I was a better BB player Ajay. I just got the North Cal and am struggling with it. Would I be better moving up a different BB line? I think I'm at tier 5 on the German tree and apart from the ARP ships, have no Japanese BB's at all.

I'll take your advice on-board but knowing the enemy capabilities,i.e torp range/re-load times etc is beyond me I'm afraid. Once in battle it all goes out the window.

I STILL don't know how to manage captains.Once I have a new ship that captain stays with the ship unless it's sold. I'm sure I'm making this game more difficult than it needs to be at times.

Posted By: Ajay

Re: World of Warships - 12/09/16 02:16 PM

Lol all good smile I gave up on the USN line at the NC, i didn't like the forward slow moving play style before the buff they gave the NC and i sold her. My average damage difference between the NC and the Bismark is over 15k. I might look at the USN line again later even though i really enjoyed the Colorado, even when she was supposedly a crap ship, her speed was the only killer, great guns generally.

Torp ranges and salvoes.

3 lots of 3 is Fubuki, 10 k's normally since latest patch.
2 lots of 4 is Kagero, 10 k's.
3 fives is Shimakaze, 8 or 12..rare is 20 k's.

2 fives is Benson (9.2), Fletcher (10.5) and Gearing (16.5).

So your safe-ish zone is around the 10 k mark (mostly) once you or the team spots one. The main thing is you are aware and if you know what DD it is then you can do some quick deciding on your next move. The obvious one is if you see it turning away from you, torps are in the water. You can work out what is torping at you by looking at the mm when in game, I always check what DD's i am up against while waiting to launch into game and deciding which way to go depending on our fleet and map.

That is tier 6 and up and, the common ones, i haven't really sussed out the latest added dd's (ijn) yet as i haven't played them.

USN DD's have a way longer smoke trail that lasts longer so easy to pick once they smoke. If DD's are firing in smoke and then go quiet for about ten seconds you know they have just torped so time to dodge. Generally never stay in a straight line for longer than twenty seconds unless you know you are sweet and always do the angle-fire-angle deal anyway. When i DD i will never fire my torps down the standard torp line offered. Always one half on half off, one behind that set and if a three torp ship (Bukky or Shima) then a third in the middle of the first two. Plus i will always close to near detect range to maximise my chances.

As BB to counter you just need to put yourself in the DD role, what does you path look like to him, where would you set your torps?

Of course all of that can go out the window as you may have to hold a line to keep angled from other ships gunning at you or multiple DD's in range. Like Tyson said, everyone has a plan until they get hit biggrin

Captains, i move mine up the line as i progress and shell out the 500 doubloons from about tier 5 so i don't have to make the grind any harder. Most of my heavily played ships are tier 7/8 and 10 and are all fifteen point and up captains. My Gearing captain bounces between Fletcher/Gearing..so he is semi-expensive lol. Working a 13 point USN Cap atm in the Benson so i can have another 15 pointer soonishly. IJN i have an 18 in Shima, 15 in Kagero and working a 14 pointer in the KamikazeR to get that fifteen point conceal..my only premium worth working a Captain.

KM BB's, Bismark, that's all i have to say about that biggrin Bismark out damages the F. Der Grobe at tier 9 and every other tier 8 BB.ASIA SERVER STATS She is easily my most fun and rewarding BB.

Try your luck continuing on the KM BB line maybe? Your next ship the Tier 6 Bayern is nice, 25 knots, great armour and decent guns. Gneisenau after her, most seem to love it..i couldn't make her work and had terrible luck with rng but she is fast, 32 knots and has torps for close in brawl. Felt like a shotgun to me though and i did a lot of running away at speed lol. Once in the Bis i shelled out for the camo for the constant -3 detect and +4 enemy dispersion and +50 xp. I knew i would keep her so it was worth it..and she looks awesome wink Pity we couldn't team up.

Thanks for the update. I did indeed have almost the same captains skills you used, though a few points off from accessing the secondaries full control. I agree, that on the Bismarck, that's a game changer. I just picked up my tier 9 KM BB, Friedrich the Great, have not tried her just yet, as I am awaiting the full loadout before giving her the opening introduction to pub matches.

Very much looking forward to the Grosser Kurfurst.

Been there, done that biggrin Hit a wall a few times and just couldn't catch a break. I grabbed The Forest and a couple of other games i play with my Daughter and Son to get away from the stress high tier pvp can cause. Nothing quite like being chased by cannibals across an island as a family to forget about that lol.

It took a while but I now love my North Carolina. All of a sudden the crits are piling up. I just had a good session where in one game I annihilated an Iowa to clutch a match smile Angling is everything, except perhaps against the Yammy.

I grabbed two 3 dollar packages. After opening 60 straight Try Your Luck containers without a super container (up to 120 overall) i wasn't feeling lucky but then scored this on the first one. Second one was 20 camos.

The Blakawakawaka! Nice DD, turns slow, guns turn slow, fire rate is slow but they fire nice and flat compared to USN. Nice to have a premium for free smile XP boost flags are worth it Chuck, helps with that grind at the higher tiers by a mile. Are you doing the Graf Spee missions? I intend to get that bad girl! Sorry, thought you were doing the hunt for Santa's convoy, was gonna say Graf Spee needs to complete final mission. Did you go back into the campaign and select the final task if you have all the stars/triangles for that appropriate level?

Re: World of Warships - 12/30/16 03:23 PM

When I select final task it says I need 3 pins but the first 2 (and only) missions only give a pin each. I think I'm missing something obvious here?

you can repeat missions to get an extra pin, its only the reward you only get once.

Good info. I started on the quest and got frustrated. I just bought it to start the Hunt Santa's convoy.

The Graf Spee is a best of a cruiser....as a long range shooter, but shoot and change direction right away or suffer the wrath of paper armor.

I'm looking forward to the free Spee, i've only just become a cruiser fan in the last couple of weeks as i have always struggled in them. Finally forced myself to not push like a BB or DD and to just fire spam. The Mogami which i did enjoy but was constantly obliterated in has now become one of my daily play ships, just a fire breathing monster.

What is interesting is the rate of fire for the Graf Spee is pretty quick, for the caliber of guns she's toting. Very easy to citadel other cruisers and on occasion, a few BB as well. You will not be disappointed.

Sounds good smile I've got my York Captain at 11 points currently, need to play it more to level him up. Does the Spee come with a decent Captain or?

I've got a bunch of decent IJN captains-Shima 18 point, Mogami 16 point, Kagero 15 point, Kuma 15 point, my sh/ts and giggles low tier seal clubber for laughs. Waiting on the new skills patch were we get to reshuffle and reset our Captains before i venture down the newer IJN dd line. I'll throw my Kuma Cap into the Shiratsuyu and the Kagero guy into the Yugumo.

Spee unfortunately does not come with a decent captain. I have been using the Halloween camo, which has 250% captain exp and the few remaining Dragon signals, which were worth an additional % of CAP experience too.

I too have been farming my IJN captains with ships I play less than before, to add to my growing IJN line of DD's. I have to say, I am looking forward to their tier VIII's of both lines. Faster torps and faster turret rotations make very nice brawlers than they were before.

Whoa! You lucky dog. I've only ever gotten 500 XP crates. I suppose that was a Lucky chance" variety?

Congrats too on the Graf Spee. She's my favorite cruiser.

Re: World of Warships - 01/12/17 09:29 AM

I'm not sure actually. It was my last crate of the day.I usually just go for flags and camo as I have had so many disappointments going for the lucky crate. It was very late last night (2:30am) when it happened,my brain was too fuddled to remember.

About the Graf Spee,is it supposed to be all grey? It shows it has the special camo installed but just looks ordinary to me. Her torps are great with that rearward facing angle you can achieve, for dissuading anyone who wants to follow you. In my opinion there's nothing you can't make better by adding torp launchers to it smile

LOL about choosing late at night and using brain fog to obscure your choice.......kidding! Still just envious of a super crate that nice....all I seem to ever get are camo, nice but not as nice as 50,000 XP.

My Graf Spee also arrived grey colored. Currently using the Fire Blend (?) one to max captain points. Your point about the rearward facing angle I honestly didn't realize. I will indeed have to launch off the bow at my pursuers next time. Right now, grind for the Akizuki tier VIII IJN DD. I read it's a beast of a gun boat.

Re: World of Warships - 01/13/17 02:34 AM

Got my Akizuki last night and gotten the B hull. Just have to grind out the final variant of the torpedoes and the fire control. Really looking forward to testing out her guns, as the forums say she's a great brawler, but due to her lack of speed, should not rush cap points in the beginning.

Will start working the slow grind for the Yugumo next and bypass her as best possible to get the Shimikaze.

Anyone trying the public test version of 6.0? I am curious as to hear your feedback regarding the new captain skills.

Re: World of Warships - 01/14/17 03:21 PM

Chucky if you take the camo off the Spee you can see the difference with the premium one, got mine today finally. I've only had three battles in her so far and finding her a bit of a struggle. Unsure atm if she is a HE ship and i should be setting fires or firing AP. I threw my York captain in and need to wait for the reset so i can set her up right.

Re: World of Warships - 01/14/17 03:38 PM

Yup,I'm not sure either although just lately I've been after a few missions that require 'arsonist' so I've been chucking HE at everything. She has the same guns as the Scharnhorst doesn't she?

I finally got one of these super crates last night as well. Sweet crate. I was almost resigned to the fact that the only thing I would ever get would be camo...now onto the Yugumo and Shimikaze.

Re: World of Warships - 01/17/17 11:18 PM

I am starting to feel like I should buy lottery tickets. I got another Super Crate, though this time it was 250 signals, unfortunately not Dragon signals. About 15K away from baseline Yugumo. I am really curious to know the difference in play versus the Kagero, which I am really struggling with to play well in. I failed to realize that smoke is NOT standard on this vessel. It's either faster torp reload, which is a great tool or smoke..

I'm doing all of mine now. Been researching what others are doing with certain ships, going to be a long night getting them all sorted out. On the plus side i have three 19 pointers now and 2.5 mill of elite XP to throw around at my other Captains.

Wow! 2.5 mil elite XP is fantastic! I think you and Bohemond save way too much XP. Actually, I am just jealous that I keep grinding instead of saving, as such have only a handful of 15 point captains.

Please don't hesitate to post your opinions of what you think is a successful combination.

Re: World of Warships - 01/19/17 12:23 PM

Unlike the last captain skill re-set,I'm going to put some more thought into it this time.I have one 16 and one 17 point captain it seems. I thought I had more near that level but I still don't manage them properly. I may have to change that.If anyone knows a good guide/YT video please don't be shy posting it up smile

I'll be playing later today, let's see if RPF will indeed ruin the game wink

Just re-specced all my captains yesterday. Not a fan of the new skill tree overall. Some of the changes are ok, but all in all meh. Only got to play a few matches. I'm sure I'll adapt as we all will.

Spent some time last night re-spec'ing my captains too...pain in the arse. I just did my favorite ships to test out the new skills. Did you notice they are discounting the re-spec price? I assume to allow you to change to other captain traits specs at a discount if you are unhappy with an initial go of it.

I'll be logged in tonight trying out the new skills.

I finally got a chance to play a little last night....interesting piece of kit. I was in a Anshan DD going to screen initially. I saw a grayed out semi circle and a bulb or some device showed up on screen. So, I assumed I was detected...however, what I do not know is whether or not you stay generally detected or is it an occasional device that comes on? I managed to still get a few stealth shots into a BB before succumbing to the rain of fire from a Flint cruiser.

Re: World of Warships - 01/21/17 10:24 AM

This video gives a good explanation. You don't need to watch all of it but from around the 14 min mark you can see that a stealth attack by a DD on a BB becomes very difficult if the BB player knows how to use RPF correctly. Of course you could argue that it's also a game-balancing feature.

RPF is a solution to problem that didn't exist. IMHO

Thanks for the video Chucky. So it is indeed a persistent skill, and as is pointed out in the video, the captain with it always knows the general direction of the nearest contact. Sorta sucks when the biggest tool with DD's is their stealth for scouting and attacking. Luckily, I have only seen this skill twice now.

Well, the premiums do tend to generate quicker credit and captains skills increase quicker too, so in answer to your question, yes they are worthwhile. However, I would caution you to not buy into too high of a tier, such as the tier 8's. Stick with the lower tier 2, 3 and 4's. The crowds are generally newer and just as likely to make big errors in judgement on how they play. IMHO....
Posted By: Chucky

Re: World of Warships - 01/22/17 12:36 PM

I love my premium ships and play them more than anything in my harbour.

Atlanta Tier VII (most played ship-600+ battles)
Kutuzov Tier VIII (smoke camping beast) Often needed when you find yourself in tier IX and X battles plus with defensive fire ability all CV's tend to avoid you,or not,at their peril.
Belfast Tier VII
Gremyashchy Tier V
Nikolai I (tier IV BB seal-clubber) Also,my best winrate of any ship at just under 70%.
Graf Spee Tier VI

My credit stash always sits around the 100,000,000 mark although I'm not a prolific purchaser of new ships. I just wish I could bring myself to spend real money and convert the 2.4 million XP I'm sitting on.I would get a Missouri,I understand she's a licence to print credits.

As Strykerpsg stated, once you hit the higher tiers you notice it gets harder. If I have a bad session I often delve into the lower tiers at times.

Buying into higher tiers can be brutal.I bought the tier VIII Lowe in World of Tanks and that was an eye-opener.I was abused frequently by the other players as I really had no idea how to play it. I still don't apparently.

I've just deleted World of Tanks, probably for the last time.I was grinding my tier VIII Russian TD ISU 152.I was working towards obtaining the 'troll-cannon' BL-10 but quite honestly, the higher tier players were making the game a misery.I think I'm a poor WoT player tbh and that I should stick to Minecraft if the comments are anything to go by. It just infuriates me at times to the point I want to sweep my PC off the desk after yet another disappointing session mad

*EDIT* Just trying to work out how much it would cost to convert that XP. I think 1 doubloon converts 25 XP so 2,431,508 XP = 97,260,32 doubloons. That sounds like around £240!!! Ouch.

Re: World of Warships - 01/22/17 12:42 PM

What's the problem with buying into a higher tier?

*Edit: Saw Chucky's post now.

So is it a significant learning curve at the higher tiers?
Posted By: Chucky

Re: World of Warships - 01/22/17 12:55 PM

I guess it doesn't have to be a problem. If you are pretty good at lower tiers the skills you learnt there will help you.

I just used my WoT experience to show it can be brutal. I bought a tier VIII premium after only a few hundred battles.I think my highest vehicle at that time was probably 3 or 4.

Having said that I've seen some pretty terrible tier X players. I often wonder how they got there.

One problem with buying into tier 8 is you will almost always be thrust into tiers 9 and 10. If you're just beginning, your new captain will be vastly underwhelmed with a lack of captains skills, and the high tiers is where the captains skills especially shine or make/break you.

Admittedly, I too bought an Atago and Atlanta. tiers 8 and 7 respectively. The learning curve was huge and the Atlanta especially, has a unique learning curve not newbie friendly. As you can imagine, you get hugely chastised by your team for not contributing much to the higher tier fights.

Personally, I would look into the lower tier premiums and enjoy learning the tier 2 and 3, dabbling a bit in each of the lines to see how your play style is. Also, input the SIMHQ guys, we're on often enough and have no problems division'ing up with a friendly ally.

I think most everyone here has just added the various players that have input their in game names and saved them as a clan on the WoWs portal. Then, when you see them playing, just send them a message to join them. Most everyone I have ever played a round or two with are always very helpful and extremely sociable. If you have a headset with a microphone, you can join us under Team Speak and utilize real time voice communications, which helps dramatically in learning too, in my opinion.

My WoWs screen name same as here....strykerpsg

The post I'm referring to was started in April, 2015.

So, now that 0.60 has been out a week, thoughts on Commanders skills and your reaction to Radio Location? I literally got chased around one map last night by a British CL in my Kagero. I would torp, he would evade and continued to shadow me for about 5 or more minutes. I personally am not digging this for any DD's.
Posted By: Ajay

Re: World of Warships - 01/28/17 01:41 AM

Radio doesn't seem to have affected my gameplay much, i only equipped my Kagero with it (since sold) just to see how it worked. About half of my games i am constantly contacted which works ok because then i know a DD is more than likely hunting me so it makes me zig zag a bit more smile Tier 9 and ten i am seeing less radio location than lower tiers. I wonder if a good team/division would be able to triangulate?

Re: World of Warships - 01/28/17 02:16 AM

Holy ship! Just had my best game ever in terms of damage. Bismark of course smile

Forced C cap as at the 13 min mark the game was looking very suspect. We were down on ships and caps. I called for help and pushed a Fubuki out of hiding at C cap then popped Hydro and let the secondaries nail him. The New Mex rolling with him had two of us Bismarks sorting him so the poor bastid was stuffed, finished him with a cit and then moved towards B.

Traded shots with a Bismark and Mogami on the way, the Bis was reversing in B..i'll never understand peeps reversing. I would rather risk a broadside just to move into kite mode than reverse. The mogami hid behind an island and i had a Chappy a Tirpitz and another Bismark on my Starboard side focusing me so i alternated secondaries depending on who was closest and kept angling like mad moving about mid speed.

Finished off the Reversing Bismark in B (Idiot) and then sent a salvo off at the Chappy. Chapppy disintegrated so i focused the Tirpitz while the Mogami moved in to release torps, put the secondaries on him and crossed my fingers i wouldn't get broadsided whilst slowing down and turning. The Bis and Tirp were coming in Port and Starboard so if they were decent shots, or rng favoured them, then i was looking at serious damage.

Put one salvo into the Mogami after dodging torps and then finished him with secondaries as he sent his other tubes my way. A full broadside at a close range Tirpitz finished him and i just managed to be out of his torps range and now had only the last Bismark to worry about. He was at nearly full HP but a first salvo knocked that out of him and we were close, secondaries were going nuts and hadn't stopped for nearly eight minutes biggrin

This last duel i just stayed angled and let him chase, opening my broadside every time after he fired and whittled him down. Secondaries finished him, second game off the day and my hands were mildly shaking when i finished lol, i was watching the score from about 150k on thinking come on son! You can do it! Once i passed the 218 mark, previous best in the Bis, it was all bonus from then on. Good times smile

Admittedly, I have not seen it as much as I thought I might. It does seem to be more prevalent in the higher tiers. I have not added it to any of my captains yet but I only have a handful of 14 point captains. Your thoughts on triangulation have some merit but I suspect would only work in a Division that continues to fight together. It would indeed be a great hunter killer concept.

That was a nice result Ajay. She's the next ship on my research list.

I just looked up my best damage done in a match and it's 183,000 in the Izokaze. I'm number 265 in the damage chart with that result,I don't think I'll ever best that tbh. I seems to me that I was getting better results much earlier on in my career where the player base was also still learning. It looks like I'm just not keeping up. I can't remember my last Kraken frown

Maybe I should just go seal-clubbing in the lower tiers for a while? grrr

I do indeed think the player base is stabilizing to the point where you now have a very mature (Play skill wise, not maturity per se) segment that know all to well the nuances of each class and ship. There were also times I would dwell back into the lower tiers to seal club, but so much has changed within the lower tier ships too, that even seal clubbing can be challenging at times.
Posted By: Ajay

Re: World of Warships - 01/30/17 01:46 PM

You see a lot of seal clubbers down there now, that's why it changed i think. The happy times have gone biggrin

Ranked soon, T7, what's everyone taking? I just grabbed the Shiratsuyu but i am not a fan of the speed, especially once radared, no chance to survive a gun fight against the Blakawaka in her. I have the Blaka but i am not super confident in it, the conceal is terrible, guns turn slow as does the ship, she goes good in random but ranked is a whole different ball game. Cruisers i am not even thinking about as i don't have a Belfast, Atlanta or Fiji. BB's are Colorado or Nagato. Going to be a hard choice as i don't think the Col will fair well this season with it's speed and everything hiding in smoke firing away at you. I see myself on fire for most of ranked this time smile

I sat on 172k for a while in my Mogami before i got the Bis Chuck. Best i did in the Iso was only 137k and that was a 7 kill game! Once you get the Bis just take your time to learn her and get those secondaries kicking, light them fires and burn 'em all down biggrin

You know, I never tried the Ranked season, but after seeing quite a few SIMHQer's, Bohemond included, I am not interested. I may opt for the Shiratsuyu or Akatsuki. May also give Belfast and Atlanta a consideration too.

Re: World of Warships - 01/30/17 02:16 PM

I might just have a proper go at ranked this time. Is it just T7? If so then I'll try my Atlanta,Belfast and Fiji for the cruisers. I only have the Gneisenau and Colorado @ T7 for BB's and the Mahan and Akatsuki for DD's.

I've a few T7 ARP cruisers and the Southern Dragon but none have any decent trained captains. I just collect them,I don't really play them much.

For ranked ill be taking in
Fiji - I seem to do better in the Fiji than my Belfast for some reason, i think its the confidence of torps and healing
I have the Polish destroyer but just got the Maass and upgraded it and been doing very well in it, its hydro will be useful in a cap fight
BB - will be using the sharnhorst as I have an 18 point commander for it in "zombie"configuration, ie beserk secondaries, healing and reload

I might be crazy but I really enjoy the cutthroat nature of a ranked battle

Either of you have tier 8 or higher British CLs? I know the Minotaur is a beast, but not too sold on their tier 8 and 9 CLs.

Thoughts?

Not yet. I've been working on getting my Atlanta captain up to 19 points. That last 300,000 xp is a long haul.

Re: World of Warships - 02/03/17 08:37 PM

I have the edinborough, very good tier 8 cruiser, but you have to be a very experienced RN player to get the best out of her.

I had the Neptune but didnt do so well in her, i prefer my russian and japanese tier 9 cruisers. The Minatour in someones hands that is very good ( not me) is a beast but if spotted in the open at tier 10 is instantly deleted.

Ah the Atlanta, i got 1 in a santa box at christmas, great fun, and deadly if you know what you are doing in it, i love it.

My best tier 6 is a very underrated ship, HMAS Perth, close to 60% win rate in over 100 battles, the creeping smoke and acceleration from stop means people mistake you for a DD at caps which is hilarious when they are in a DD. It was my Aussie duty to buy it the second it was released and havent looked back.
Posted By: Chucky

Re: World of Warships - 02/03/17 09:03 PM

The Perth seems to be a rare ship,I hardly ever see one. If I'm playing in a non-smoke generating cruiser,I always check the team list for a RN ship so I can use their smoke.

I understand there is a mod that gives you duration times on-screen for smoke.I tried to use the in-game clock but I always ended up miss-timing it. There's nothing like firing HE at a group of BB's for 80-90 seconds and suddenly finding yourself broadside on at 0kts with everyone looking for revenge.

I also understand that in the next patch they are fixing the 'glitch' where the RN ships didn't get the second smoke puff. That was really annoying at times.

Re: World of Warships - 02/04/17 12:28 AM

I just got the Fiji and she's kitted out with everything upgraded, sans the torpedo upgrade. I plan to give her a spin today. I think I am indeed going to advance to the Edinborough, as the forums does indeed favor her in her tier 8 role.

I too would like to see a smoke screen timer, to also prevent the avenging shots while sitting in a supposed screen that is now gone. I also have the Perth, but admittedly only have taken her out once or twice. She does seem to be a decent ship, but I got so focused on DD's the last few weeks, that she has been overlooked.

I also have been colored pink for the first time, as I was attacking a Gneissenau that was in a brawl with a Colorado. 2 of my torps hit the Gneissenau, while the third sunk our Colorado. I am not sure why the Colorado driver continued moving abeam, but I think he assumed my 3 would sink the Gneissenau. I was also surprised that one TK turned me pink. A bit frustrating, but lesson learned.

Re: World of Warships - 02/04/17 12:28 AM

yes the Perth is a rare ship but that just helps me even more as players havent learnt how to counter it. Not many people bought it as it was reviewed on the world of warships forums by a couple of ëxperts""who were critical but they ignored its strengths ie it may have a slow top speed for a cruiser but it has fast acceleration which i find more useful. Like the belfast it has great HE and the rolling smokescreen totally confused DD players who I hunt down at caps.

The same experts were critical of the Graf Spee due to lack of DPM , but you play this ship very differently to a normal cruiser and again I have over 70% win rate in it . I have to laugh when i see a Graf Spee on the other team firing HE when you have the best guns in a tier 6 including the BBs ( not calibre but accuracy), AP all the way.

Its funny I was totally useless in DDs until I played through the RN cruiser line and now im much better as ive learnt to use and not use smoke much more effectively. This is a game where you never stop learning.

Some ships im useless at , others shine, i think thats the same for everyone.

I really like the Graf Spee. I believe it was a review by either Flamu or Jingles that sold me on the high amount of DPM that cruiser is capable of inflicting, albeit with a glass cannon. It was the Graf Spee that got me interested in cruisers again and now have me on the fence about whether to use my free XP for the tier 8 Fiji or hold out on the upcoming US cruiser line revamp.

Re: World of Warships - 02/06/17 12:38 PM

Jingles influenced me into buying all the premiums I currently own. Flamu I go to for module/captain skill set-ups. Aerroon and Notser also have great content and give good advice.

I'm also enjoying the Spee,I may concentrate on her for a while.

The other day I think I had the 4 worst battles in a row ever. I certainly found out that my £90 keyboard will stand a good thumping unlike the few M$ cheapos I've owned in the past. Boy I haven't got that irate over a game for quite a while. Needed to go outside and walk that off.

I just bought a Tirpitz using the 30% Valentines Day discount smile I also sold all my unused modules to claw some credits back.

I am equipping my Tirpitz with a secondary build,is that a good thing to do? What sort of ship is she,a brawler?

As usual with a new ship,my first battles were far from satisfactory, hopefully it'll get better.

Re: World of Warships - 02/10/17 07:51 PM

I just started a few days ago, it seems fun. I do seem to be chewing through ships in random battles with my up-specced St Louis. Almost took out a BB 1 on 1 which I was quite impressed with...

Re: World of Warships - 02/10/17 08:05 PM

Believe it or not, I'm nuts enough to be grinding my way up the British Cruiser line. I had so much fun in the Danea and did so well. Then I got the Emerald. Life is hard in the Emerald, I have found. Spot a Battleship and run or you are dead. Usually one hit, and that's that.
I'm hoping the Leander is good.
Posted By: Chucky

Re: World of Warships - 02/10/17 11:03 PM

Pooch, from the Leander upwards it gets a little easier. Always use premium consumables.

U-96,the St Louis is a protected cruiser, she can duke it out with BB's if she has to.

I just kicked off ranked battles tonight with a 3 win streak. This is going to be easy I thought...

Wow banghead Made it to 18 before I just had to stop. I think I had 5 defeats in a row. I can't believe people don't team-play in ranked. If the team agree to go to A and one guy goes to B alone...

You made it to 13? Wow,I don't think I'll make it there. I'm remembering now why I didn't partake too much in the past.

I just rage quit another session.I may have to go back to random although some of the rewards in ranked are tempting.
Posted By: Bohemond

Re: World of Warships - 02/12/17 09:49 AM

Heh, need to clarify. I started at 15 due to my ending rank that season. Tried a handful of matches yesterday and got stomped back down to 14+2. Prolly won't do Ranked on weekends anymore, just during the week. Might be confirmation bias, but weekends teams....sheesh.
The rewards are the ONLY reason I partake. I last as long as I can stand it, then I just walk away. That is usually around the 10-5 rank area.

Re: World of Warships - 02/12/17 11:00 AM

I started at 23 I think. I am now at 17. I think you are right about the weekends though.

What are those 'special' consumables I see for the higher ranks? I'd like to get some of those but I fear they are out of my reach.

Re: World of Warships - 02/13/17 01:27 PM

As far as ranked goes,my Atlanta has an 18 point captain, however it's not the ideal ship for ranked, although last night one managed to burn my Gneisenau down in short order by hiding like a coward behind an island where I couldn't strike back. He absolutely enraged me but in his position I would have done the exact same thing.

So far,the Belfast and Fiji have been my main 2 ships I have used. I'm trying to gee myself up to dive in again today. It's hard.

Re: World of Warships - 02/13/17 07:52 PM

Chucky,
I'm running a 42.86% WR and a 586 WTR so far this season sigh With a start like that, it is indeed very hard to steel myself up to dip back into Ranked. Hopefully, it was just a bad couple of potato days for me and I'll bounce back.

Re: World of Warships - 02/13/17 08:13 PM

Where can I find that info Bohemond, although tbh I'm afraid to look.
Posted By: digger52

Re: World of Warships - 02/13/17 09:17 PM

chucky if you go into your profile , under summary you can filter battle statistics by random, ranked etc.
Then for ranked you can filter by season.

For this season im at 49% win rate after 41 battles and 1.04 destruction ratio.
How this helps is that you can see your stats by ship which showed me when i play the scharnhorst im getting a 73% win rate so ive changed my approach to exclusively use the sharnhorst as I have a 17 point captain configured for brawling in german BBs . After doing this ive won 5 in a row and got my climb up the ladder moving

My stats came from WarshipsToday. A third party website. Has more info than the WG stats page I find.

Ok,taking the 7 days as an option,my WR is 50% over 24 battles with a WTR of 838. I was going to do ranked tonight but we have server problems. Ah well,it probably saved me a little tantrum or two!

Re: World of Warships - 02/21/17 03:17 PM

After a little break over the weekend I've just managed to get to rank 13 but I'm not sure it's worth the frustration and raised BP to continue.

One ranked battle this afternoon included one against a team that had a DD that committed suicide early on and an afk Fiji yet we still lost. Luckily I came top (it wasn't difficult with that team) so no star lost.
Posted By: strykerpsg

Re: World of Warships - 02/23/17 03:27 AM

I am still a bit leery of trying ranked without a very high ranked captain to use in this event. It's ironic that some in a pub match, that show high rankings from the ranked fights, seem to occasionally not fare very well in the pub matches that would support their higher rankings from ranked battles. This gives me hope that all that play are not some uber sharp WoWs players, a category I fall into as well. So, perhgaps when the next one comes along, I will indeed have the maxed out captain I need to be a bit more successful.

Good to see many of the SimHQ crew faring quite well in ranked battles though. Congrats fellow SImHQ'ers.

Re: World of Warships - 02/23/17 02:17 PM

Trust me,ranked isn't full of uber sharp players, after all I'm in there smile

You should give it a go.My Fiji captain only has around 10 points,my Gneisenau around the same and they are doing ok. The only reason I don't play my 18 point Atlanta is that it's not the best ship for the job.

LOL Chucky! What's your WoWs screen name? I make sure to add you to my list as well. Actually, I guess that's only possible if either you're on the NA server or I migrate to the EU server. I'll add you nonetheless and see if it shows up.
Posted By: Chucky

Re: World of Warships - 02/24/17 09:34 AM

I'm on EU. British_Cruiser is my nick.

Just checked,my ranked win rate for season 6 is now 61% (unicum) but honestly my PR shows my skill level in its true colours @ 950 (below average) There have been more than a few games where I thanked my team for the carry.

I think it's just my style of play that lets me down,I like to get stuck in rather than snipe, plus I prefer to play 'squishy' cruisers a lot.

Now at rank 11. I'll work on it again after the weekend.

Chucky, in my opinion, your skill level just means you have additional things that call into your life too. Not saying those with a much higher PR are without lives, but some of those players have huge amounts of time spent playing and spend quite a bit of time dedicated to getting their stats in the higher rankings. Though I play a decent amount and have been with them since beta, I play more for the free XP to grind out my next ship and make goofy mistakes quite often....Bohemond will testify to that.

But, you've engaged in Ranked and are doing quite well. Hats off to you my friend. Now, I am curious if I play on the EU server, if I start as a new player or just a matter of selecting the appropriate server. Admittedly, always played NA servers. I have a slow week at work this week, so may be able to play around with the various servers. Can I assume you use the SIMHq TS for comms?
Posted By: Chucky

Re: World of Warships - 02/27/17 11:39 AM

I'm not sure how the server thing works but I do know I once tried to connect to the NA server by accident and it wouldn't let me so I'm guessing a new account is required. I've never used the SimHQ TS.

My skill level doesn't worry me at all,I'm not looking to improve. I have fun (mostly) and that's about it. I should say I'm retired so time is never an issue when it comes to gaming although will power does.

In MP games I seem to have a level I can achieve and that's it. I can't get better and I'm fine with that. I can only watch with respect players like Flamu and his ilk and think 'I wish'.

Re: World of Warships - 02/27/17 03:09 PM

Chucky, like you I'm just in it for fun. At the moment this is my go to game. When I have some time to play, it's WOW. I think its a blast. But I suck, and also, like you, I don't care. But I've had evenings where I got two or three kills and was the last guy standing, so occasionally I do something right.
Also, like you, I'm retired. And ALSO like you, I'm a cruiser man. Just got the Leander. Damn, I was glad to get out of that Emerald.
Enjoy Destroyers, too. I have the Farragut, and just decided to jump into the German destroyer line. That little V-25 is a HOOT! Like a little PT boat.
Fun game. I really enjoy it.

I see, thanks for that info. I gave up at rank 10,I have no wish to subject myself to any more of that. I'm not even sure if I will attempt ranked season 7 although I may do what I did this time, play for the rewards and quit around 10. Purely for my sanity if nothing else.

Now that ranked is over (do I hear cheers?) where did you get to?

I managed rank 10 then quit as noted above,I assume Bohemond did the same.

How can they make it less frustrating I wonder? It was mostly just smoke and camp, smoke and camp.

Hit 9 and quit. I just watched an interview Flamu did with Sub_Octavian of Wargaming ( and another WG employee who was never named). Both WG employees admitted Ranked has issues and that they are looking how to improve the experience. FWIW.

Re: World of Warships - 03/27/17 08:45 PM

reached rank 10 fairly early and then stopped as not an enjoyable process as stated by many others.
Used the scharnhorst and Nagato mainly and an atlanta as a cruiser. I have a belfast but didnt use it as too many belfasts in the game.

I think the best tier for ranked is tier 6 as many different ships and tactics to use without radar and less smoke. The good thing about ranked this time is the team comms were less toxic than previously or maybe because i stopped early i didnt experience it.

I'm really enjoying the latest patch so far. I like the buff to the Tirpitz. Secondary guns now have a 10.6 km range (Flamu build).Only have a 10 point captain though. Not sure if I can improve on that. Now it's fun to play.

I decided to start playing carriers.I only have tier 4 and 5 so far so no chance to try manual drops yet and I restricted myself to co-op. I did play a few games before they removed manual drops and I sucked if I remember.

I watch 'Femenennly' on Twitch a lot.She plays mainly tier 9 and 10 IJN carriers and she's one of the best NA players. She doesn't advise US carriers,do you guys agree? I've not often seen her get bested by an Essex or Midway.

I've heard that too since their torpedo bombers are great, but I can never get anywhere with the IJN carriers due to the inferior fighters they carry. Or the loadouts without fighters for both the US and IJN. I guess I'm just terrible at keeping my aircraft alive.

Re: World of Warships - 07/02/17 04:34 PM

Same boat as you, Chucky. Just burned out on WoWs. Jumped in to Ranked at 15 due to last season ending rank. First several matches were horrible. Probably a combination of my rustiness and window licker teams. After those, it started to improve. Think im at 11 or 12. Not sure I like T6 over 7 and 8. None of those boats are really prime Rankers, I feel. However, it seems to be much more balanced than the last 2 seasons. Seeing a nice wide variety of all types of classes. Really quite refreshing for a change.
Personally, I've been running Anshan, Fubuki, and Farragut the majority. I had to retrain my 19 pt Benson and my 17 pt Shimikaze skippers. I usually stop around R10 or so as the rewards past it don't seem worth the aggravation. We'll see how it goes this time around.

Yeah,I've played it quite a bit but not lately. I did find it enjoyable though.

It's a constant struggle for me at the moment to keep interested in games. I think I'm at 'that age' sigh
