campaign, just how dynamic?

campaign, just how dynamic? - 03/23/04 01:43 PM

One of the enduring buties of F4 was the campaign. The feeling that ones mission mattered. How is battlefield persistance going to be moddled. Radio chatter was also a favorite in F4, is there any chance of this being present?

As Falklands is a rather limited conflict with fewer air units per mission than in other scenarios, each mission will really matter - sink an important warship in an airstrike and the whole scenario will change as the naval units will, for example, move away to reagroup/change tactics. In the first part of the campaign, each mission, either attacking argie aircraft or CAP'ing british SeaHarriers, will have essential impact on how the second part of the campaign unfolds. Second part is after (if) the british landings, so the focus for both sides will be on air support for the ground troops in the isles - brits fighting their way into PortStanley and argies defending their entrenched positions. Harrier Gr.3 CAS missions comes to play heavily here, as well as IA-58 Pucará for argies.

About the radio chatter, we didn't started working in it yet but it'll be present of course with all the important tactical wingman commands and ground/warship comms/guidance available.

Dante it would be really interesting to have some sort of Groud controle to help Intercepts, as this was the main method used by the Brits And the Argies had a Ground controler in Port Stanley (Puerto Argentino) and the BAM Malvinas (BAM = Base Aerea Militar, Malvinas was its argentinian name).

Allthow you have it easy on the argentinian Airforce commands, since they were under a strict radio silence rule ;\) .

Of course, if you plan to do some Pucará missions, There you can do all the radio chatter that you want ;\) .

And if I understand you correctlly the campaign will be dynamic meaning that you can alter the events in the conflict. Say, you can prevent a Landing, or an earlier landing can be achived?, right?

Will we have what If scenarios with the 25 de Mayo?

Sorry if its too earlly to be asking this questiosn, but anticipation is killing me, It going to be favulose to recreate such an epic battle, that brought out the best in boths air forces and navy pilots...

And hopefully a better understanding of the problems and dificulties faced by both sides.

yes, landing could be prevented by hitting (for example) HMS Fearless and other vital landing ships at San Carlos, and depending on failures of the argie airforce to counter brit's fleet arrival, an early landing could be achieved on the other hand.

Ground control will be available, specially the Sea Harriers relied on control given by the warships below.

Argentinian carrier 25 de Mayo will be featured, we have yet to decide on the strategical side of the campaign, and how much control the player will have over the campaign's unfolding. Will the player been able to decide that it's worth to face the risk of british submarines and stay with its navy on the fight, or the campaign engine will evaluate the risks and make the decision to retrieve to port the argentinian navy and the carrier?

Not too early, and feel free to ask what you wish \:\) We hope to have a mini-campaign running as soon as possible with the current units we have (both naval and aerial), it's less than 40% of all stuff we should have for a full campaign but it'll be enough to test and answer these questions.

Well that will resolve the eternal question:
Was the argie navy right or wrong to retreat its primal assets to safety?

Well as far I know the CV was in bad shape anyway. Their catapult system was in huge need of repairs and thus for a safe launch they needed certain headwind which they never got.
Of coruse that's what I've read in books...

Actually the problem was with its power plants.
It could not achieve the minimum speed to lauch a full combat loeaded A-4Q with not enough wind.
