Low end flak

Low end flak - 09/21/18 04:48 PM

I have been experimenting with stutters
Seems to be more evident when heavy cases of flak occur, which is quite often.
I have replaced my two flak textures with two textures which are only 17kb,they still look good, also I have reduced the flak sounds .
Result I get much better gameplay with less slow down,I did notice some off the effect textures are rather large, maybe they could be toned down slightly too free up more memory for lower end systems,I know you can play on effects on low but the flak textures are intensive (dozens of flak bursts must have an effect on slower pcs)

can not really because they were not made by me,I was just experimenting too see effect on FPS and stuttering heavy flak had on the game.
Lower textures on things like flak do not really matter as you do not really get close to flak that much, same as bullet hole effects, when do you really look at them.
Quite a few effects and sounds can be toned down with no real notice to the players game play.
I may be wrong on this but it works for me.
The flak on this sim is the best I have seen since B-17 the mighty 8th.
Gameplay is everything for me and I would rather have toned down textures with a smooth and enjoyable experience ( I still think the old games are better ie eaw,b-17 etc,cfs2 also)
The modern flight sims are great on the eye but crap gameplay, I still play space invaders by the way, simple but still great.
The new flight sims you need a nasa power computer to get more than a dozen planes in combat without a total FPS loss,
WOTR is potential of a real classic and I hope it gets lots off support,it keeps me hooked for hours.
I just want too go back to my campaign,I feel a part of something and look out for my squadron.
What ww2 flight sim for quite a few years can say that.
Happy flying and I hope you enjoy as much as I have so far

Nice one Meplanes,im glad your having fun. Yep gameplay over graphics every time for me also..Ive been simming since Gunship and silent service on the C64.
Moved onto the Amiga with Knights of the sky and my personal favorite Geoff Crammonds Grand Prix, among countless others..
I remember when it was all about having fun, some people nowadays want "amazing" graphics and "realistic" FM and DM nowt wrong with that of course ..but over gameplay? seriously?..I think some posters on this forum stopped having fun years ago personally

WOTR is exactly like you put it and in fact WOFFUE got me the same way..i bought WW1 aviation books that,d never normally have bought. I purchased "They flew Hurricanes" only a few days ago why? because of this sim.
You "Care" for your squadmates you watch for your virtual wingman hoping he comes back. This sim with support like yours, mine and countless others will undoubtedly get better and better..Fly safe Meplanes..take care

Speaking of B-17, seriously hoping for a daylight strategic bombing campaign where we crew 17's and 24's. That would be nirvana.

Proberly be escort missions p47 p51 or German bf109 or fw190 intercept squadrons.
Should think the bombers would be AI only.
Hope I am wrong

I concur with Meplanes 1969, I would think Bombers would all be AI and some of the interceptors 2 engine would be piloted ie, Me 410, 110, Bufighter, Mossie, P38. and Interceptors P 51, P 47, 109F and G FW 190 A. The format should fit in the game play that way. I dont think that crewing B-17's and 24's would work in the game format as it is now. But who knows what OBD will cook up ?

Afaik CFS3 mods have flyable heavies so I wouldn't discount the possibility some time down the road. I don't know that I could stomach the 8 hour haul from East Anglia to the Reich however.

Yep I'm sure some of the mods have flyable heavies myself Ace. B17 The mighty 8th had you doing the long flights. What'd probably do in that situation is take off and form up manually and them Autopilot and time increase over the channel. Sorry for going off topic OP..I'd love to see flyable 17,s in this sim. It'd be awesome.
