Wrapping my head around this mod business...

Wrapping my head around this mod business... - 12/17/17 06:22 PM

Alright, I'm not that clueless. I have used JSGME in the past and think I remember the basics.

These are the mods, that look appealing to me:

– New & corrected skins

– Ground season textures (are those generally considered superior to the stock textures, or are they more of an alternative?)

– News mod

– Bomb sights (even though I'm not planning to fly a bomber any time soon)

– Consolidated Custom Airfields

– Rivers Mod

– One of the cloud mods (I guess they're mutually exclusive?)

– New effects mod

– Sky box effects mod

– possibly Inflight terrain map ( is that one recommended?)

– Realistic tracer effects

– possibly Pilot viewpoint mod ( what does this one do exactly? I remember having to fiddle around with the viewpoint in WOFF 1)

– WOFF UE mission mods

Are there any compatibility issues to watch out for, or can I use all of these?

Of course it is always your choice and in may cases trial is the best approach, but let me identify which ones I choose to use the most (see the attached pic) the first two are my own and not on the mods page:

Thanks! I'll follow your lead and see, where my frame rate takes me from there.

Just had my first extended flight to have a look how the mods were doing and WOW, the visuals and performance of the UE blow WOFF 1 clean out of the water!

No idea how I'm supposed to hit anything with the side-mounted MG of the Bristol Scout, though. Is this a "TrackIR-only" plane?

Trelawney, The Combined custom airfields mod will be the biggest hit on resources of all the ones I listed, so if that one works fine for you, you should be ok. If not, you may have to back off on it which would be a shame, unless you can reduce your workshop settings.

In quick combat my fps hit a solid 60, but I expect them to suffer somewhat under campaign conditions. Workshop settings are currently maxed out, so I have a little wiggle room. Deactivating mods would be a last resort.

Sounds like you will be good to go.

My mod/setup combo looks like this:

In the Bristol Scout,

1) Get very close (as all WW1 dogfighting most effective aiming is to get very close so you can't miss.
2) Use the tracers to guide where the bullets are going, but if you need to use them you are not close enough wink
4) If you still can't hit anything use F6 (bit of a cheat as your eye will be superglued to the gun sight)

@JJJ65: Thanks for that! A few of these are not listed on Sandbaggers mod page, guess I'll find them here on the forum.
Say, you wouldn't happen to be an RB3D veteran, if you don't mind me asking? I know it's a terribly long shot, but I flew with a Czech back in the day.

@Polovski: Ha, busted! I'm indeed guilty of opening up as soon as I'm reasonably sure I'm seeing crosses. Just can't help it. :-) TrackIR would allow me to line up the sights with my head movements, right? I'm still desperately trying to convince myself that I shouldn't spend money on an accessory for a single game, but that might be a losing battle. Maybe a used older model...

Yes, the most of these mods should be possible to find in the mod thread here on the forum.
However, that was not me, I did not fly RB3D sigh .

Got everything I was looking for. Nice work on that Multimod! Any recommendations on the default viewpoint? I think I might zoom out a little.

Sorry, didn't want to seem overly nosey! Was worth a shot, though... smile2

I personally zoom out 20 %.
I do not think you were nosey, not at all.
