E:D - PSN sale

E:D - PSN sale - 03/13/18 04:45 PM

Elite is on sale on the PSN, $30 for the base game, plus Horizons Season Pass and some customization stuff.

The base game is also on sale, $12.

Has anyone played this on the PS4? I consider it because my PC is still older, and controller flying is all I can do right now, HOTAS setup takes a lot of real estate and is sort of in mothballs.

$30 for everything that's out so far sounds good, but then I'm not a PS4 guy. Can you not controller-fly on the PC?

I probably could, but at this point in my life I don't want to worry about having to set it up and get drivers working, etc. plus, on PS4 it should look awesome "out of the box". I built my PC when my son was born, and he is 7 1/2.

I haven't played Elite on PS4, but I do have one. I like the HOTAS and PC. But I would bet on the PS4 it's really good. A controller should do a great job with this one I think. I see zero reason not to go for it. $30 is a good deal.

I played it some on my 360 controller before my stick came in. It actually works pretty well! I'm sure PS4 controller would be no different.

It seems especially well suited for a console. My sons plays all sorts of games on it but I just use it for sports games and Bloodborne. But Elite seems like it would work well. The way the menus are set up would not frustrate me to navigate with a controller. And the various critical commands should fit on the controller easily enough. Plus I'm sure it looks fantastic. I stay out of PC open play and i think that would go double for console open play.

Good point Clydewinder. I hadn't considered that, but I agree.

Sold mine and never looked back. Just never got comfortable with it, I couldn’t relax due to the constant tracking.
Does the PS4 have drivers for flight sticks like the PS3 did?
I figured this was a good year to upgrade with Ace Combat and Mechwarrior 5 coming.

Wow, there is a lot to unpack with this game. first thing I notice is that I have to create an account with Frontier? I don't like that.

Next, while I was flying to a station with some data (courier mission) I had to put my daughter to sleep. I hit the Options button on the controller, which gave the illusion of a pause menu.

Well, I fell asleep on her floor, and then crawled into my own bed. I feel everything is ok because the PS4 will turn off automatically.

I check it this morning and I have somehow flown past the station 0.13 light years. Now I am flying back to the station at 1,900c and will take me 32 minutes to get there. Also, time flows in the game normally? Even when the PS4 is turned off? I missed the early delivery bonus while I was flying into space. I hope I have the fuel to get back sigh

So I should have exited the game properly, I suppose?

But that takes away what is so awesome about the PS4. I can basically pause a game wherever I am and come back whenever I can. I just have to play this game differently.

Time passes even if you're logged off. The clock is based on GMT I *think*. That's what your mission timers run off of.
If you want to get out, log out or shut down the PS4.
As for your position, just jump to another system, then the one you want to be in, you don't have to supercruise back.

Eighteen minutes out I ran out of fuel. Nav panel says I didn't have the fuel to jump.

Then 1.2M light seconds out supercruise stopped working. Dead in the "water", 2 minutes till oxygen depletion.

Ouch. No matter really, as you're still in the stock 'Winder right? You can get as many of them free as you need. Once you upgrade (this ship, or to a better one) always be sure to have enough in the bank to pay the insurance.

Your story made me smile, as we have all been there I'd say. I imagine everyone has a story about when they discovered that there's no pause smile

If you ever run out of fuel, consider calling the Rats, They are a group of dedicated philanthropists that will bring you some gas.

Once you've some cash, consider a fuel scoop if you can fit it.

That sucks! I haven't tried Fuel Rats, but have heard some youtube channnels mention them positively.

I have yet to run out either, but I wouldn't put it past me!

Re: E:D - PSN sale - 03/15/18 10:02 PM

Can you not exit the game in space anymore? You used to be able to, and then when you log back in, you're either in space or more often than not, docked in the nearest station/outpost. Does that not happen anymore?

I did my first Fuel Rat run when meeting up with Oden smile Quite cool!

RK, the TrackIR does need some getting used to. I know when I started with mine, playing F4AF, I had a sore neck for two weeks until I got used to it smile But scratch that, Elite cockpits look awesome in VR. The flat monitors don't really give you a sense of depth but in VR, the spacious bridge of a Cutter is a very cool thing. Go into an Imperial Eagle or Courier and the fighter-style cockpit feels so cramped! Go into an Asp and the views you can get from the cockpit is just amazing!!
