Questions about WOFF - 03/21/16 11:10 AM

Hello everyone,
I'm new to this forum, I hope here is the right place for this thread.
So, I'd like to ask you some questions about this game, I don't have it yet.
I know there is no multiplayer, but i don't care about that. I do like single player, campaigns ...
All I want to know is, how the graphics looks like, compared to Rise of Flight.
Is this game ( graphic ) really old / outdated, compared to some other flight sims, like Cliffs of Dover, RoF, Battle of Stalingrad ?
My specs :

Intel I7 4790K / 16 GB DDR3 / Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500 GB / Gigabyte GA Z97X-UD5H / GTX 980Ti G1 / 4K Samsung UE48JS900 / TrackIR 5 / X55 Saitek
Is it worth to buy it ? I have to get Microsoft combat flight simulator 3, first ??
Thank you in advance

Re: Questions about WOFF - 03/21/16 11:20 AM

You do need CFS 3 first. WOFF is most definitely worth it. The single player experience is second to none! The amount of historical skins, the way the front line moves as offensives start and end, the units all on their historical airfields, it's pretty amazing immersion wise.

The graphics are by no means bad. They are not modern day AAA standard, but they are certainly not bad or immersion breaking. The clouds and lighting look very good indeed, as do the skins and 3d models.

If you are into WW I aviation, this game is a must have!

Do you play / played / RoF ?
By the way : after purchasing the game, how many aircrafts do I own ?

Welcome - there are plenty of vids out there for you to view, there's even a videos thread on the forum, and some linked on the website and gallery pages.

Graphics have been improved lots in recent releases too.

Re: Questions about WOFF - 03/21/16 12:36 PM

You can see the list of features in WOFF here:

http://www.wingsoverflandersfields.com/features.html

and the V2 Expansion feature list is here:

http://www.wingsoverflandersfields.com/featuresWOFFExpansion.html

I believe that's 64 aircraft between WOFF and WOFF V2. Zepps in V2 are not flyable, but everything else on the lists are.

I also think it's worth taking a look at the AI for WOFF, which is incredibly advanced and using decision making logic based upon a great number of factors in order to decide what to do next, instead of just randomly rolling "dice".

http://www.wingsoverflandersfields.com/features-AI.html

Besides WOFF and the V2 Expansion, I also highly recommend the Skinpack which adds thousands of historically accurate paint jobs to the sim.

I own most of the planes for ROF, but like yourself, I am mostly a single player guy, so I was quite quickly bored with ROF. It's pretty to look at, but the things prioritized by the multiplayer community are not the same things I would have liked to have seen. Too bad...it's such a pretty game to look at!

In WOFF you don't have to buy the planes separately (except the ones that are added in the expansion packs, but each of those comes with 2-3 planes. In the base game there are already 40 or so planes for you to fly. In short, I've owned the game for a year or two now, and I still haven't had time to properly fly all of the planes!

At the outset, buy the bundle, WOFF1 + WOFF2 then install those. Then install the latest v2.16 update for WOFF2.
(WOFF2 needs WOFF1 installed).

There are 3 addons and a Skin pack available too should you like what you see.

The FAQ goes over a lot of what you need, how to install etc.

For visuals, also check out the screenshots thread in this forum. Look at the later pages for the latest graphics etc.

Website has features lists for WOFF1 and WOFF2 (WOFF Expansion)

Re: Questions about WOFF - 03/21/16 03:47 PM

This is NOT an arcade game, the AI will come after you and will cause you to fly your "bird" to the limit
of it's envelope.

And I would not have it any other way!

Being a new guy, you buy the first round tonight!

.

Welcome to the forums Bronxx, always glad to see another flier interested in the wonder that is "WINGS: Over Flanders Fields". As others have already noted here, make the investment, you won't be disappointed. And, as I am feeling particularly flush today, if you do get yourself all set up with WOFF 1 and 2, I'll treat you to the Skin Pack. smile2

However, you're on your own when it comes to the bar tab, and as CW3SF has so rightly pointed out, new lads buy the drinks! cheers

Cheers!

Lou

Re: Questions about WOFF - 03/21/16 05:16 PM

Hi bronnx, and welcome to the WOFF forum salute

I own everything you can own for RoF (except the Russian expansion)...

and WOFF is better.

Just barely, but WOFF is better IMO smile

The "in-plane" feeling of flight is better in RoF. I think it is the best feeling of flight of any flight sim ever created.

But the WOFF scenery is every bit as beautiful and even more detailed and immersive than RoF. The weather in WOFF v2 is the best looking weather of any flight sim I've ever seen, including X-Plane and P3D. While PWCG for RoF is great, the in-game campaign in WOFF is better. The AI in WOFF is better than the RoF AI.

I love RoF. When combined with PWCG I think it is one of the best combat flight sims ever created. But I think WOFF is better. As good as RoF is, you'll have bigger adventures in WOFF.

Just my opinion of the must have start ups:

WOFF v2
Skin Expansion Pack

And sounds like Lou's got you covered on the skin pack thumbsup

Re: Questions about WOFF - 03/21/16 07:20 PM

I have supported RoF since july 09 and bought a metric shedton of aircraft and weapon packs etc. Sure the overall pretty factor goes to RoF and the feeling of flight in some A/C is quite impressive (as long as you like roundels) but the SP content is abysmal - especially the braindead AI. Seeing as RoF appears to be abandoned there is little hope of those issues ever being addressed. I don't even have it installed anymore.

With the current pricing of the Woff 1 and 2 bundle you would be mad not to grab it if you have an interest in WW1.

Plenty of A/C, great campaign, no two missions ever play out the same and you really do need to keep your head on a swivel in the hostile skies. And the skies are hostile, the AI in this game will make you work for your paypacket. Throw in a fantastic score by Matt Milne, and you really have the full package.

Bronnx

Welcome aboard. If you like WW1 simming/aviation, WOFF is where you need to be; period.
It is the top of Mt.Everest IMHO.

Oh, and I'll take mine two fingers neat, thanks. cheers

Re: Questions about WOFF - 03/24/16 03:01 AM

And a Guinness for me, please. Welcome, Bronxx!

I've never flown ROF, but I've done quite a bit of FSX, CFS2 & CFS3-ETO, and real world airliners (in the back, I'm no pilot!).

WOFF to me is a work of art. It is not a game, it is a simulator, a labor of historical reverence and probably the only simulator that ever made me start when I looked down at the ground. And it's only gotten better since that happened! I've never seen such realistic skies.

Plus this is a wonderfully helpful and gentlemanly bunch; and on top of it, the developers hang out here! You can't beat it; I'm on here more than I fly!

Get yourself some good hardware if you don't have it already. Unlike more modern planes, the rudder plays a significant role, and a TrackIR or similar head tracking hardware is just about a must. My hands have enough to do without fiddling with a hat switch.

Re: Questions about WOFF - 03/24/16 12:10 PM

Welcome, Bronnx.

You won't regret getting WOFF 1 & 2.

I have flown all the Il2 iterations since inception plus RB3D and RoF, all in SP mode, and WOFF is the best game of them all.

RoF & Il2 CoD/BoS are prettier and capture the feeling of flight better than WOFF IMHO, but WOFF will make your palms sweat more then other other flight sim I've played.

It is a visceral experience, and the weather and clouds in particular sometimes cause me to say "Wow!".

You don't need to actually install CFS3. You just need to have the discs there with you when you install WOFF. Early in the process you'll be instructed to insert one of the CFS3 discs. Some files will be copied from it and then the WOFF installation will proceed.
Posted By: Bronnx

Re: Questions about WOFF - 03/29/16 08:00 PM

So,i have to purchase the game, with the disc?
I thought i can buy it online,Steam or something..
Posted By: hoongadoonga

Re: Questions about WOFF - 03/29/16 08:17 PM

If you don't have the CFS3 discs then I think you'll need to do a complete CFS3 installation first. Then you can uninstall CFS3 after WOFF has been installed. However, if you ever have to reinstall WOFF (which I've had to do several times over the years) you'll need to reinstall CFS3 again.

Re: Questions about WOFF - 03/29/16 08:36 PM

Yes, but the question is : where do i get ( online - download ) CFS 3 ?
I can't find it on Steam or somewhere else. Only Amazon ..
Should i buy it from here ? What do you mean ?

Re: Questions about WOFF - 03/29/16 09:40 PM

I suggest that you refer to the WOFF FAQ file. Go to HELP page on the WOFF site. Then download the "latest FAQ" file (on the first line). Items #10 and #9 in the FAQ file discuss where to obtain CFS3 and how to update to the proper version (if needed).

Re: Questions about WOFF - 03/29/16 11:01 PM

I will find a store here in Germany, to buy it.
Does the game ( WOFF ) support 3840 x 2160 resolution ? I hope so
Thank you

I purchased the CFS 3 from a local shop, second hand, 2 euro biggrin
So i installed WOFF, but i have some problems.
First, i cant find the menu how to configure my joystick / HOTAS, and second, how do i quit / exit the game ??

Re: Questions about WOFF - 03/30/16 10:23 AM

Bronnx, the manual for WOFF is available as a downloadable PDF on the OBD website;
here is the link.
There you find your questions answered; for exiting the game, see point 13; on page 21.

"Wings Over Flanders Fields" - Frequently Asked Questions
Posted By: Polovski

Re: Questions about WOFF - 03/30/16 11:01 AM

"Workshop" menu to get to many options including configuring controls and controllers. ("ReMap Keys/Controllers" button) See the FAQ as Olham kindly points too. Many of your questions have been asked before and are covered in some detail in the FAQ document.

How to install, CFS3 what is needed etc. NO usually you do not need to install CFS3 if you have it on disk (only install if it's a very old disk as it needs updating to CFS3.1 first). Anyway check the FAQ please.

If it's a downloaded CFS3 then you'd need to install it first if it's not in an ISO format that could mount for example.

Re: Questions about WOFF - 03/30/16 11:15 AM

It seems to be very difficult to assign the throttle. The image is flickering as hell for this menu, its hard to explain
As a first impression about WOFF : i like it a lot. The only think i dont like it, is the way i have to configure all the buttons.
Posted By: Olham

Re: Questions about WOFF - 03/30/16 12:04 PM

You need to select the joystick in the selection frame;
then the best is IMHO to "unbind" it from all and any commands.
Do the same with your rudder pedals, if you use such.

Only then, you should select each command, and "bind" it to the correct stick function/button;
then do the same with the pedals.

Re: Questions about WOFF - 03/30/16 12:10 PM

I have no peddals yet.By the way, would you recommend peddals for WW1 and WW 2 sim flight ?
Thanks, i will try as you said
Posted By: Bronnx

Re: Questions about WOFF - 03/30/16 12:19 PM

I attached a printscreen. The menu labeled with black is flickering very very fast when i select Rhino Throttle.
My HOTAS is working fine with every other sim flights i have
No idea how to fix this

Posted By: Olham

Re: Questions about WOFF - 03/30/16 12:21 PM

I find the "reality feeling" better for WW1 crates, with using rudder pedals.
(For WW2 planes, rudders are not so very essential IMHO).
But when I started, I used a twist stick and it worked well.
I guess it is also a matter of the cost - pedals aren't cheap.

Here is a graphic to explain the setup:

Re: Questions about WOFF - 03/30/16 10:09 PM

Firstly remove all axis that are assigned to that controller first, then add the thing you need only.
Posted By: Bronnx

Re: Questions about WOFF - 03/31/16 03:28 AM

I tried everything but something is wrong.
The HOTAS and the joystick seems to be " inverted "
When i want to roll / pitch, nothing happent, but when i move the throttle back - forward, the plane is rolling...
I try tommorow again and if i cant fix it, i uninstall WOFF
Thank you

Re: Questions about WOFF - 03/31/16 09:25 AM

Ok, fixed
cheers
Posted By: Polovski

Re: Questions about WOFF - 03/31/16 09:33 AM

Great glad it's fixed. For other WOFF users, it may be worth just saying what fixed it in the end.

(At a guess, you cleared all axis from both controllers, then added just what you needed).

Yes, i cleared everything first.
I downloaded some mods, but 3 of them are .exe
When i want to install them, it says " JSGME not found in X / path ... INSTALL THAT FIRST
But i already installed JSGME and i have in that MODS folder, 3 different mods, they are working
Am i doing something wrong with the .exe files ??

Btonx, make sure that the JSGME you installed is the one that is on the WOFF "User Mods" section of the WOFF site. It is specially set up for WOFF mods usage. THIS IS IMPORTANT. THen try installing the mods again.
Posted By: Polovski

Re: Questions about WOFF - 03/31/16 11:01 AM

It's a totally different topic so best to put a new question in the technical forum for questions about WOFF.

However as these are MODs you are having issues with it should actually be posted in the MODS sub forum.
OBD cannot help you with the mods.

However you do need the JSGME tool itelf for most MODs. It is available from the website usually right at the top of the mods list! See that and read the readme from that please.

First get WOFF running fine, and then get MODs you are trying to run before you can walk wink

Ok, i downloaded JSGME v. 2.6, its working everything now
Where could i find some infos about sweetfx for WOFF ? I tried 2-3 version, but none of them is working.
Thank you
Posted By: Olham

Re: Questions about WOFF - 03/31/16 11:21 AM

Bronnx, why not try SweetFX later, and check out WOFF as it is, first?
With it's new shaders, the shadowing and the lighting and gloss, WOFF looks great already IMHO;
and the variations of cloudscapes are overwhelming, compared to other sims.
Just my tip: check it all out.

Re: Questions about WOFF - 03/31/16 11:43 AM

Just wanted to test some settings, like vibrance, tonemap and curves.
But thanks, i'll keep searching
Posted By: Robert_Wiggins

Re: Questions about WOFF - 03/31/16 01:12 PM

Bronx, not to discourage you, but Olham has a valid point. Try WOFF first without sweetfx and take note of the visuals so you have a point of reference before going to sweetfx and tweaking, otherwise you will not know what needs to be tweaked.

Others here will likely respond and provide their sweetfx settings to share with you.
Posted By: Hellshade

Re: Questions about WOFF - 03/31/16 02:35 PM

I used SweetFX for the longest time but after V2 and the new DirectX visuals, I founds "vanilla" WOFF really was the sweet spot. It keeps Winders amazing scenery looking tone perfect.

Okay guys, I'm sure you right, but I just wanted to test it
How could I make a decision between A and B if I don't have the B?
Posted By: Bronnx

Re: Questions about WOFF - 04/01/16 10:16 AM

I tested different planes, scenarios, i have to say that the game is way better than RoF, except graphics, but the gameplay, campaign, etc, is more important for me, than the graphic.
About SweetFX: I managed to install it, modified the file d3d8 - NoMultisampling=0 to 1, but when i use the menu Default Shaders, SweetFX is not available.
Am I doing something wrong with the graphics settings ? I have a lot of stutterings, i tried with the native resolution 3840 x 2160 - Vsync ON; Off, driver settings. Than i lowered the resolution, 3440 x 1935, everything to medium / normal, but still stutterings, allthough i have constantly 58 - 60 FPS
Do i need to install those files, C++Runtimes and VB_Runtimes ?
I have the game version V2.00b - 4231

LE: When i use DX9 Enhanced Shaders, the stutterings are more visible ( no sweetFX ) I have Anti-Aliasing - 2 samples.
I wish i could have it to off, but there is no option for OFF.
Anyone here playing @4K with GTX 980 Ti ?

Short answer, yes. You can read all the info on the WOFF website under downloads.

The WOFF development team have been excellent about addressing any bugs with patches, and will typically also produce patches as needed to accommodate new features before any upcoming add-on.

I'm not sure if I purchased WOFF V2 Expansion or only WOFF. I checked my email and there is WOFF 1 and 2 expansion - Digital download only
Posted By: Hellshade

Re: Questions about WOFF - 04/01/16 05:32 PM

The V2 Expansion is the same as "WOFF 2", so if you bought the bundle, then you should have had two downloads from your purchase. The first for WOFF and the second for the V2 Expansion.

Download and install WOFF

Download and install the V2 Expansion

Now all you have to do is update to the most recent patch version.

Download and install the V2.16 patch update.

The latest patch contains all previous patch changes within it, so there is no need to download any previous patches for V1 or V2.

I went to W7 64-bit Pro from XP and had to play with my settings to stop stutters.
Went from W7 64-bit Pro to W10 64-bit Pro about a month ago and had to play with my settings again to stop stutters - which were bad and now they are gone.

With all the varieties of CP set-ups there is no magic "trick" to stop them you just have to experiment around with your system. Generally I find the adjustments are made on the computer end to stop them not WOFF.
In mid-flight now but when I get a chance I will read this whole thing and maybe I can give you a pointer or two from my recent "tweaking." Depending on the dozens of variables with your system a solution may be one-click away.
Panama Red is a hardware guru and helped me plenty of times and perhaps he can throw some ideas your way.

Re: Questions about WOFF - 04/02/16 09:17 AM

Just based on your WOFF settings pic a couple posts above - which are quite low - WOFF itself isn't the issue though there are other settings (Campaign Activity) which can have a huge impact.

I will presume you posted your system specs and full WOFF settings somewhere in this thread. Let me take a look and I will bet (eventually!) we can get you stutter free.

Re: Questions about WOFF - 04/02/16 09:25 AM

One thing, if you did install CFS3 first to patch it make sure you do a "full" install not a minimum one that has been known to cause stuttering for some. But mostle there is no need to install CFS3. Make sure WOFF is on your fastest drive, and try changing vsync settings (also options in WOFF Workshops). There are optimisation tips in the FAQ section 20 go through all of those if you haven't.

This should be in the technical section so I'll move it there.

If you are overclocking reduce it (you should turn off all overclocking and test) - and try disabling Intel throttling in the BIOS but make sure you have adequate cooling and it's working properly.

Re: Questions about WOFF - 04/02/16 09:44 AM

I use Turbo Boost for the cpu, WOFF is installed on my fastest SSD
When I installed CFS 3,i updated and the game is still installed
Should I try to uninstall CFS3, maybe? Would that help?
Intel throttling means hyper thread?

Re: Questions about WOFF - 04/02/16 10:03 AM

Okay after leading my flight to a great victory (from which I came away empty handed) I had a chance to read this thread.

1) What is your OS?
2) You say you got CFS3 from a shop. Did you update it (to 3.1a IIRC) prior to WOFF install? As it appears you have the HD space (as I do) I just leave it installed in case I ever have to reinstall WOFF.
3) Hardware-wise your system looks more then enough to run WOFF maxed without stutters - it's similar to mine.
4) What AV are you running? Even turned off some cause stutters - Windows Defender was bad for me.
5) Do you have your OS "trimmed down", i.e., unnecessary crap turned off?
6) Any background programs running you don't need? I am pretty merciless on turning off unneeded programs and services.
7) Besides the pic above what are the rest of your WOFF settings? Put Campaign Activity to "Medium" if not already so.
8) There looks like there may have been some confusion and questions upon install? I would go to the WOFF page and follow the install instructions to the LETTER.
9) PM Panama Red reference your super-duper monitor for advice. We had quite the talk months ago as he did some testing with one and can give you some tips.
10) What year and location are you flying? Do you get stutters in 1916?
11) What are your video card settings? Override WOFF's AA in your card settings. Don't use WOFF's. I have a GTX970 and my Nvidia settings are basically maxed out for WOFF.

Just my opinion based on the posts here.

deselect Ingame Vsync.
deinstall SweetFX, this software is prone to cause unexpected problems.
do a manual update on your windows before starting Woff.

Hi Bronnx, you can check out my system below.
I am running 2560 x 1440 @ 144Mhz - Gsync.
This is a brand new - self built system.
Stock install of Windows 10 pro and all associated software that came with MB and 980ti.
Fully updated.
Oh yes, Norton Security Suite AV.
Other apps necessary for WOFF -nothing else installed yet

WOFF 2.0 with latest patch.
Enhanced shaders - everything maxed.
Flying with 94th Aero in May 1918.
Getting 70 - 100 fps.
No stutters that I've noticed.

Was a standard WOFF install V1, inserted CFS CD when asked - V2 - latest 2.x Patch - Add Ons and patches.
Did not do a separate DX9 install.
No NVidia tweaking aside from turning on GSync

Re: Questions about WOFF - 04/02/16 10:59 PM

Wow. Stuttering in 1915? Not good.
And default settings with your Nvidia card - with the previously shown WOFF settings? With your hardware set up?

This is definitely not a WOFF issue directly IMHO there is something going on with your CP yet you say you have no issue with other games that are a lot more CPU or graphically fancy then WOFF.
Have to say I feel a stumper incoming.

#9 was PM (Private Message) a WOFF player named Panama Red about your 4K monitor as he has much experience with them and WOFF. And at this point that's about the only thing I got left.
There is no way you should be stuttering in 1915 with your hardware and those super low WOFF and Nvidia settings.
Set to Override WOFF's AA in the Nvidia Control Panel.
Posted By: Bronnx

Re: Questions about WOFF - 04/02/16 11:35 PM

WOFF's AA in the Nvidia Control Panel is " override " ...
I updated Windows, i uninstalled Avira antivirus, i disabled a lot of services i dont need, uninstalled CFS 3, but nothing changed.
Its very hard to find the culprit.Nearly impossible. It could be the Saitek X55 Rhino software
It could be the Logitech drivers ( Mouse G502, keyboard G510S )
Anyway, i'll keep searching.
Thank you very much for helping me.

Re: Questions about WOFF - 04/03/16 12:02 AM

I know what you mean about finding a culprit. The old phrase "needle in a haystack" comes to mind.

Guess as a "Hail Mary" I would try a couple of things.
1) Set your Nvidia card to Higher settings. I have AS at 16x and AA at 8x and 8x Supersampling. This is max for the GTX 970. There was a line of thought back in the day that WOFF ran better at higher settings. It seemed true with the old WOFF. And turn the WOFF settings back up. Give it a try in 1915 and 1917.
2) I know little about your fancy monitor. If you still have issues after the above can you turn your monitor down to 1920x1080? And disable any fancy super-duper monitor stuff and run it like a "normal or regular" one? Just to check?

At this point I have to guess it is something with your fancy 4K monitor. I know others are using them (not me) but they are not having problems. If it turns out to be your monitor (or you can't set it to "normal") still talk to Panama Red. He has one and is quite the hardware guy and loves testing new hardware with WOFF. Helped me plenty.
Luck!

Re: Questions about WOFF - 04/03/16 12:38 AM

I forgot to mention something : when i play WOFF, and i want to open nVidia CP ( for example ) i press the Window key on my keyboard. OK, so far so good. I'm on the desktop and i do whatever ...
But when i return to WOFF, i receive this :
http://postimg.org/image/t375u7uf5/
But the game is running again when i press the game tab, in the taskbar.
I re-installed MSFT C++ , i updated Windows, i repaired NetFramework.....
Tomorrow i will try with another monitor, i have an BenQ BL3200 PT, arround ( 2560 x 1440 )
By the way, today i upgraded my TV 4K Samsung UE40JU6550 with 4K Samsung UE48JU6550, actually the same thing, only 8 inches bigger. It's GREAT to fly, my Lord...
With both, 40 and 48 inches, stutterings. I think it has nothing to do with the Samsung tv.
I tested today DCS World, BoS, BoM, RoF, Project Cars, CoD ( Cliffs of Dover is " famous " for issues with or without TF mod ) and didnt have any issue, except CoD, but thats an old story

Re: Questions about WOFF - 04/03/16 06:55 AM

I have this damned Problem with those Stutters since WOFF's release in 2013. My Suggestion is quite simple: It has something to do with the Graphic Settings in the Game.

I am playing with a GTX 970, 8 GB RAM and a i7-6700K with 4 GHZ. A pretty fast System, I think. Every Game on my System is running smooth as silk with High Settings, believe me. But I still have Problems with WOFF. Campaigns from April 1917 onwards are stuttering as Hell.

In OFF Phase 3 we've had more Options to tweak the Graphics. Do you remember the Graphics Config in Phase 3? You know, those Settings with the "Overrides" and "Texture Info" and so on. Tweaking with these Settings allowed the Players to adjust their Graphics, until OFF was running smooth and liquid. I am still playing OFF, and I have tweaked with those advanced Graphic Settings, and even with heavy Air Activity in 1918 I can play smooth as silk, better than it was ever before, I never see any Stutters, a very nice Gameplay.

But WOFF doesn't have these advanced Graphic Settings anymore. And THAT is the Problem IMHO. What runs good on the Dev's Systems, must NOT run good on our Computers, even if it is a similar System. I wish we had more Options to tweak the Graphics. But I have surrendered to it, surrendered to this whole Problem. THERE IS NO SOLUTION TO STOP STUTTERING.

Re: Questions about WOFF - 04/03/16 08:05 AM

Perhaps in your case though it is still difficult to believe.
I have had stutters on plenty of occasions (new computer, new vid card, new OS) and have always been able to make them go away. 95% of the time it just modifying a computer setting or turning something off.

Re: Questions about WOFF - 04/03/16 10:36 AM

I think DunkelronHand does have it right, every game needs fine tuning. But I have also noticed, yep I keep repeating, that most players install Woff on the same partition as they use for the internet/office/email/webshopping etc. Make a seperate boot for Woff and keep this alone for Cfs3 based games. Now there is nothing that can interfere to this game. Tweak your OS and make it LEAN to the bone, close the internet connection (Woff does not need it) so you can remove also the firewall/virussoftware etc.
In my own system I have 3boot sectors, one win8.1 containing RoF/bos/clod on a SSD, win10 for all non gaming activities and one win7 for Woff/maw
Last two are on a normal HD.

I think it was a wise dicision to leave the Cfs config garbage and implemetate a decent on in the woff workshop. BTW I think that CFS.config file can still be used.
Posted By: OldHat

Re: Questions about WOFF - 04/03/16 10:54 AM

That's very true. Even blockbuster titles need tweaking to get best eyecandy/performance. You can go into the configoverrides.xml file and adjust only some settings (e.g. the yes/no ones are mostly safe) as I've tried to make some memory value adjustments which ended up crashing WOFF. The Defaultoverrides is there for a backup.

NOTE: Some of the workshop's settings are reflected inside this file.

Re: Questions about WOFF - 04/03/16 11:05 AM

Hey Dutch any tips (or better yet a link) on how to put WOFF on its own partition?
Sounds pretty cool but I get it may be tough to hold my hand in a forum.
If I google it search for "making a partition"?
Then reinstall WOFF to it? Obviously I am a little lost...
Posted By: dutch

Re: Questions about WOFF - 04/03/16 11:24 AM

I'm not on my system right now but on my Apple. iphone.
For the SSD it was simple a matter of conecting the SSD and install the OS on that disk.
For making an extra boot sector on the actuall used HD I got the info from sevenforum.com, tutorials section, but in my case I did have also some free software to do this trick, without the loss of data. Also on advice from the sevenforum tutorials.

Another point in fixing problems is the use of OSD software like MSI afterburner to monitor what is causing a drop in FPS, in combination with HWinfo you can determine every problem what you are facing. This morning as a sample IHave notied a CPU load on one core that was 90%, normally this is 75% max, so dispite having an isolated Woff, there is somthing that needs further investigation before getting into problems.

Re: Questions about WOFF - 04/03/16 11:53 AM

Hmmm. I suspected I would have an issue with the OS.
Just switched to W10 a month ago and WOFF seems to be working fine with it.

So the whole point is to have the partition with its own OS on it?
I still have my original W7 64-bit Pro install discs I guess I could use but, as I said WOFF works great with W10.

Would it be stupid (or possible) to have W10 on two partitions? The WOFF one all stripped down? Of course I am fairly "tweaked up" currently with junk turned off or removed as much as possible and still having a all purpose OS geared for gaming.
I guess my thought is the future and the direction that drivers and bios are going in supporting W10. But then each partition would be using its own set of drivers? W7 may be easier to really "bare bones" it...
I'll read around.

Well a W10 test run costs you nothing and to go back to your old OS is a one-click affair.
Supposedly there are "under-the-hood" code optimizations but that's way over my head.
For WOFF I'd give it a try. It's awesome.

Win10 is the best for new hardware, looking at steam W10-64 seems to be even more used then win7. So yes stay to 10. In my case Wofff is running great and my hardware is from the Win7 period i5-2500k and a hd7970 so there is no need to change a winning team.

But a extra Win10 boot in your case is something to considder, fully optimized for Woff and no interferering by a automitic scan from a virusscanner or that nice free software downloaded by your wife but also introducing a unexpected conflict.

As apoint of intrest my whole PC life I was forced to use low spec or obsolute PC systems, so I had to tweak/overclock/use sec..hand upgrade parts, on my systems to get things running at low cost. Remember Win98lite or by bare bone WinXP-ME so that it was regonized as WinXP profesional.

Re: Questions about WOFF - 04/03/16 04:17 PM

Hi Bronnx !
I had some stuttering with WOFF 2 too ,really annoying ,but after having played around with nvidia control settings and nvidia inspector settings AND workshop settings for some weeks, at least some tweaks definitively reduced stuttering on my rig (i7 4770, nvidia 970gtx,240gbssd,8GB DDR3 ,win 7)to a degree it doesn't bother me no longer. It seems to be a subtle interplay between quite a lot of parameters,so it took a lot of trial-and-error based tweaking. However, although most of the time results were somewhat indifferent, some changes actually made a difference (for me). You may give it a try... 1.NvidiaControlPanel: -enabling shadercache and v-sync, texture filtering High Quality, prefer max.performance, allow negative LOD-Bias.
2.Nvidia Inspector: (select cfs3 profile),maximum prerenderedframes= prerenderlimit_app_controlled,vsyncmode=force on, frame frate monitor control=ps_frame_rate_monitor_control_optimal_setting,shader cache=ps_shaderdiskcache_on,
virtual reality prerendered frames=vrprerenderedlimit_default
3.Woff Workshop: In Graphic Details I left everything maxed out ('5'), Cloud Shadow Scale=9, Cl.Sh.Density=8 BUT reduced Terrain Shadow Detail from '3' to '2', this single step had by far the greatest influence on stuttering issue ! Best regards

Re: Questions about WOFF - 04/03/16 04:20 PM

Hi,

Could someone record a session of this stuttering?
Just curious to see exactly what others are seeing?

Even on my older Notebook, Win8.1, loaded with all kinds of junk, that could do 20-40fps, if there was any stuttering, it was too minimal for me to notice with any consistency.

Thanks.

Good man for giving it a shot.
I wouldn't give up quite yet. You sound pretty computer savvy.
Try some of the W10 "tweaks" posted around the net. I am almost willing to bet money your solution is just one click away.
For starters try a program called (IIRC) "Eso". It is a one click program, with multiple profiles, that disables assorted Windows services. And one click to go back to default. I tried a bunch of things but I think this finally had the biggest impact.
Like to see you enjoying all WOFF has to offer.

Re: Questions about WOFF - 04/03/16 06:59 PM

Hey dutch how big did you make your WOFF partition?
In doing some quick reading it looks like I just make the partition (Windows has the tools apparently) and d/l W10 in the ISO version and just install to the new partition. Sounds easy right?

FWIW per MS you can't make a newer Windows OS dual boot by adding an older one (like W7) to another partition.
Something about set-up and boot files being overwritten by the older OS.
That shot that down then I stumbled upon the ISO method for W10.

Actually I think you can in WOFF.
The experts can jump in but if you look at the d3d8.ini (or is it d3d9.ini?) in the main WOFF folder (where the .exe's are) there is a setting that turns AA on and off.
Make the change and write-protect it otherwise WOFF turns it back on at start-up. Very similar to the procedure when using SweetFX.
Think that is correct by memory but I ain't as young as I used to be.

You should stick with the full installation. The skins are one of the most enjoyable features of the sim. I also highly recommend the "historical skins add-on #1", which is a separate purchase (at the bottom of the "buy now" page).

Buy everything at the WOFF page is my advice.
For an early war guy like yourself (I am guessing by your 1915 career) the add-ons seem to cater to that.
And certainly the Skin Pack.

And defintely go with Full Installation on everything when that is the choice.

WOFF V2
Official Skin Pack

After that, which add-on packs you buy really depends on what years in the war you are most interested in flying in. I also have to throw in a word about Matt's musical score download, which is some truly excellent work.

I think i found the culprit for stuttering. Maybe thats only for my hardware.
So, what i did : i uninstalled the TrackIR 5 driver, installed again, updated the games list for TrackIR 5.
Thats it. Now i have the following settings, and 90 - 95 % of the sttutering is gone.

Maybe try Anti-aliasing set to 8x, even when you override the application settings.
At least for me it seemed to look much better.

The cut-off menue must come from your extremely high resolution, I guess.
Do you really have such a big monitor, or twin-set?

Bronx,
I use a 50" monitor and have the same problem. When WOFF 1st comes up I have the whole screen, it is only when I fly a mission that it gets cut off and only affects workshop. I can close out and when I launch it again I have the whole screen. This is not a problem for me as my settings are "set" so to speak.

Thank you

Bronx;

I don't use a Hotas but I suspect the settings are stored somewhere other than in WOFF. Probably in a MW Windows directory, Hotas software directory, or in your hidden folder "AppData" or it's sub-directories.

Hi Bronnx,

If you are talking about changes you made inside WOFF, in the Workshop, Under Remap Keys/Controllers these are kept in the file:
"C:\Users\{your user name}\AppData\Roaming\OBD_Games\OBDWW1 Over Flanders Fields\WOFFKeys.xca"

Note that the AppData folder is hidden in windows by default.
To see it you, while in explorer, in you will need to use the View Tab and check the box "hidden items"
