Campaign options: aicraft - 06/08/20 02:51 AM

I was curious,

I seem to remember in the Red Baron series of sims that if a pilot had attained Ace status. You could then requistion a personal plane. I do not see this feature in WOFF.
Currently I am an ace and my jasta has at its disposal Haber DII's and III's as well as Albatros DII's. I am stuck with a inferior Haber DIII and would like an Albatros DII.

I feel its pretty unrealistic to see many pilots in my squadron with no kills or even rookies flying a better plane then I am and I cannot seem to find any option
. Is there some method to acquire a better plane in my squadrons inventory? I really miss that Red Baron II and 3d option where you could even paint your personal mount.

Thanks in advance.

An Eagles fan are yah? Cool handle!

You can definitely paint you're own plane, but it's not like RB3D was. You need to know how to use at minimum a higher end paint program like Gimp and save the file as a .dds.

But I will say this.. if you can use a good Photoshop program, you can make a lot of very good personal skins for your crate. There is no limit to colors, parts, style... nothing.
Unlike RB3D where you chose from different parts that were already in the game and had a very limited 256 color palette.

the only ways to permanently have a different type are to be promoted, or start a new pilot. Not sure how long it would have taken in reality, but how long in the Blue Max was Stachel in a Pfalz?

Witchy Woman, if you use Jara's fantastic "Mission Editor", (available on Sandbagger's User Mods page), you can pick whatever plane you like as well as edit any items in the assigned missions you wish; way points, altitudes, number of wingmen, all of it. It is a "must have" bit of WOFF magic IMHO.

Cheers!

Oh, and to having your own livery, as mentioned above, if you have even a rudimentary image editor you can cut and paste from the thousands of available skins to your heart's content and create any scheme you like. I've used the free Paint.NET program for years and I actually prefer it over PhotoShop. As example, here is one I painted about six years ago for my pilot in one of the Rick Rawling's Challenge Events.

At the moment you can't change it in WOFF (although in JJJs mission editor you can assign other craft as said above). However in WOFF 2020 we have a much improved inventory management options and one of those new features allows you the player to assign any general squad aircraft to you or other pilots. So if your squadron currently has 3 types of aircraft you can assign any of those 3.

More on that later.
