Bombing Mission

Bombing Mission - 05/19/20 03:45 PM

I'm in a Bomb/Recon Escadrille flying Nieuport 10C's in 1915. We got a mission to bomb a rail yard in German territory. We were given no bombs in loadout. Followed the leader to the rail yard. He just flew over it and we returned home showing no damage to rail yard. Any thoughts on this?

Not sure which squadron, but the N10 is a currently the fighter version "10C" and possibly substituted for the 2 seater version. Or you may be in a special "mixed" squadron with various types. Sometimes 2 seaters may be with you in such a mission and you fly together. However WOFF is MASSIVE there's so much in there hard to test every single day in every single squadron with every single mission type possible.

Hi Kentcol, welcome to WOFF! My guess, as Pols mentioned, is that you were supposed to be escorting one or more bombers. On those escort missions it can be very hard to spot the machines you are escorting. They arrive near your field, already at altitude and wait for your flight to find them. Often you won't even spot them (but your leader does). Then they tend to sit right below your formation en route to the target.

You can tell when you're about to go on an escort mission from the description alongside the preflight map that's shown, prior to your hitting the "Go To Field" button.

Happy flying!

There was no mention of any escort mission. It stated a bombing mission for my flight. I did follow flight leader to the target. There were no other flights anywhere near us. And the mission briefing stated no damage to the target. And thanks for the late welcome! smile

Which squadron/date/aircraft?
Put it down to the fog of war for now, when recreating a whole air war you tend to create some of the fog of war too !
At least they didn't deliver 1200 boxes of custard by mistake for you to drop.
I'm with JJJ on that one - you do have guns at least to shoot the trains up!

I do have guns but I followed the leader and he did nothing. Escadrille N48 in November 1915 flying Neiuport 10C.

Yeah you said, but it is what it is at the moment. With WOFF 2020 lots of things are changing regarding the squadron aircraft usage and selection including Aces, and in mixed squadrons so let's see if it's still a problem later.

If it's bugging you choose another date/squadron etc.

Also, you can edit mission waypoint for all the squad to give them each a directive to bomb shoot at target. Done in JJJs mission editor.

I didn't mean to piss you off. I was just stating what happened. It's not a big deal to me. Will keep my thoughts to myself in the future. I assume your fan base is limited and everyone else is a bother. Thank you.

Hello Kent,
Esc N48 in November '15 was an Army Cooperation Escadrille, part of DAL (d'armée de Lorraine). Its' duties were primarily reconnaisance, escort, and the defence of Lunéville. Historically, it was equipped with the Nie 10 biplace - the two-seater. However, we do not yet have the Nie 10 A1 two-seater in WoFF (hopefully, soon to come), and therefore, no bombing capability, as the Nie10 C1 doesn't carry bombs. In the datafiles, there is no bombing role, so the mission you flew was an anomaly. I guess just chalk it up as confusion at HQ. As Pol noted, things are changing, and it should get sorted out down the road.
Cheers,
shredward

I'm not pissed off Kentcol? Reporting things is fine but we have millions of bits of data so details are important.

I think you would find reading through the 1000s of changes we have done to WOFF over the years we listen way more than other developers, but I explained the situation.

Thanks for providing the squadron and now Shredward could check as I mentioned in my very first line, it's an aircraft substitution as we do not have a N10 2 seater.
