WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) - 05/13/20 04:50 PM

Request for Pol,

Any chance you would be willing to make a single thread for WOFF 2020 content updates. Doesn't mean you need to make regular updates, etc. Just that when you do post them, videos, pics, written info, it will all be in a single thread for us folks to comb through. Just a thought. Thanks for all that you do to keep this sim growing and the WWI flight genre in general alive and well.

Sure, we as usual weren't ready to post anything major but I posted a few snippets on the Facebook page and some in reply to particular issues etc but will try to post in a thread here.

Just reposting Pols video for the WOFF 2020 work in progress. I really like how the pilot's head doesn't just turn, but also looks up and down like he's scanning the skies. The engine animations and light wing buffeting really add a lot to the immersive of flight. I am very excited to see these added immersion factors put into the sim.

From Polovski's post on the WOFF Facebook page

Dev Update 1st May 2020.

I have been working more on the SE5a - improved exhaust, engine area and radiator (also added scoop underneath). WM has added more cool features to the runtime code and is currently adding more to WOFF manager including some nice changes to how player, squadron and ace craft are allocated. We also have now various different faces/scarfs in the aircraft - currently test in SE5a and Albatros D.III. More on what's added and a video later...

Dev Update 25 April 200

Work continues on the next WOFF adding and testing animations and so on. But to help a little with the boredom here's a small snippet here, new updated radiator for SE5a. Other parts may be worked on too.

From Polovskis post on the WOFF Facebook page

17 March 2020

WOFF Development Update

Hello everyone, hope you are all staying safe.

Currently, we are working on a new expansion of WOFF. Full details of its contents and how it will be available will appear at a later date. We believe it’s going to be yet another game changer as several areas will be worked on and improved.

One important area is our AI - already the best in WW1 flight sims - this is being overhauled further and improved in many areas to up the immersion! New AI code to allow new appropriate decisions. Dogfights are more dynamic and intense, and now often lasting longer. During a fight, AI Pilots will still at some point try to escape the fight (at great risk to themselves) to get back over their lines as really happened in WW1, however they will be more aware of the fight around them and will re-engage combat if necessary whilst looking for their exit!

AI are more aware of enemies in all the various tasks they do and will be able to defend themselves better. For example when landing or taking off they will better able to react to immediate threats.

The Observer gunners are improved, for example new code allows the Fe2b to operate as a fighter! Gunners will be more responsive.

We have added a new REPLAY function so after the mission you can see what happened, with many filters and slick ways to watch it.

There will be new aircraft and some updates to many other aircraft.

These are just a few of the new changes, and we hope to post more details in the future.

[in a comment from the post he stated the following]

Over the last few days we have, with the help of Dan Holtz, been adding 'nice to have' extras for example ability to reload the Lewis gun and so on - it has been proving trickier than we first thought, but we hope to have this and other features in there too!

To the best of my knowledge, we are up to date on all that's been teased or released so far. If anyone is aware of other posts by Pol or WindingMan specifically regarding WOFF 2020, please let me know. Exciting times are still ahead for WOFF.

Pol... I see the Albatros mentioned...hmmm. what updates are we going to see

I've been thinking it might be time to refresh the old D.II. it's really long in the tooth at this point in WOFF's lifespan.

Re: WOFF 2020 thread - 05/20/20 09:02 AM

Well I will do as many as possible before the glue wears on this seat. The DIII has been updated with new anims as per the vids etc, and I improved various areas on there as the vids above. Not sure I can do all the Albs but will see.

Re: WOFF 2020 thread - 05/29/20 07:14 AM

On thing I would like to ask the dev team on campaign is to play a "replacement pilot" when the player pilot is killed:
If a pilot is killed, offer the option to the player to create a new pilot who would join the player squadron the day he is killed, or at the expected date of replacement.
This is something very immersive because we have the feeling to follow the history of the squadron as the squadron would retain the history and what happened during the previous career.

An excellent idea - the current way, for example, Kiener was one of the pilots based at Ghistelles, flying with v. Pranz. After v. Pranz lost a wing in an unfortunate balloon attack, I had to open up a new pilot profile, for Kiener, and set him to the day after Pranz was killed. The problem there is that all of the other, old names that were based at the 'drome also disappear once a new pilot career is opened. I don't mind doing this the manual way - although it is problematic if there are successful kills assigned to one of the "wingmen" in the duty roster - and then that wingman goes back to zero once you start him up as a new pilot profile, losing his previous kills. Although I can always make up a story that the kills were pending but never verified. But your idea is a fine one - more immersion for a squadron that way.

You can use Pilot Log Editor. Simply create new pilot and transfer him to existing unit. All pilots will be preserved and you come to the same squadron that your dead pilot left.

And look who's getting a well-deserved facelift. I have to say that the quality of the model Polovski has made for this and the D.II is fantastic!
Base skin was originally done by Paarma and myself ages ago... but I've been reworking it with new insignias, wing patterns, and many other smaller details we missed back then.
So nice to see this one and the D.II with this level of quality in WOFF.

Not sure I mentioned this new feature - don't have time to read through wink but as posted in another thread..

WOFF 2020 has around 70+ new features and changes already, one of which is a much improved inventory management options and one of those cool new features allows you the player to assign any general squad aircraft that is in your current squadron inventory to yourself or to other pilots. So if your squadron currently has 3 types of aircraft you can assign any of those 3 to anyone (although you cannot change historical Aces).

This fixes one of my recent pet-peeves. When deploying a new pilot in a campaign, I choose an aircraft I want to fly and get assigned (randomly) to a squadron where the plane is starting to become available. As the new guy, I get assigned one of the older planes, so I don't get to fly the plane I asked for.

Well done, you're fixing things before we complain about them biggrin.

Re: WOFF 2020 thread - 06/09/20 01:54 AM

Hiya Shred. Makai never saw the D.I. Paarma and I did a mish-mash of parts between us to quickly slap together a skin using the wings from my Alb D.III and Paarma's wood texture.

On the D.II, I will however preserve as much of Makai's insignia and artwork where possible as a show of respect and appreciation to our old friend. I remember all the emails we sent back and forth when he was skinning that and I was cutting my teeth on the Triphound then a very early crappy looking D.III skin.

Jeeze...time flies ..

Re: WOFF 2020 thread - 06/09/20 02:40 AM

Hi all – it has been quite sometime since I have posted here or been flying woff but back into it and absolutely enjoying everything again - with the upcoming potential for aircraft assignment – may I ask when I go out with my flight is it possible that each plane can have a unique ID number even if sharing a skin – to keep the immersion up rather than flying with a bunch of “carbon copies“

I am not sure if that is at all possible or even possibly occurring already?

Cannot wait to see what is to come - Certain to be brilliant as always

Thanks to the developers and all of you for all contributions and ongoing efforts

Re: WOFF 2020 thread - 07/13/20 08:15 PM

oh boy smile will be fantastic!

i have been wondering about a couple of items ...

when a plane crashes ... is there anyway to keep at least a 'decal' of crash site present on the ground? and can the smoke, which right now appears a bit like a uniform 'vector' maybe in direction of wind ... be changed to a more fluid simple 'undulating animation' not necessarily tied to wind direction?

sorry if not the right time or place to ask - but have been curious if those types of moves are possible or not?

I'm hoping it doesn't take 70 weeks to complete. That would release WOFF 2020 sometime in 2021. I guess we'll know if Pol renames it. wink

Re: WOFF 2020 thread - 07/16/20 10:41 AM

70 weeks OMG I have just loaded the Webley.

OK first snippet:

This is an expansion so you will need to own WOFF UE already. We MAY (TBC) have two upgrade paths, one at a much lower price for PE owners.
Anyone reading who has not yet got hold of WOFF please don't hold off buying we need your support - and it's needed to use WOFF 2020.

Here's one of the changes...

1) AI 'Landing' or 'Going Home' are now more aware of enemy activity and react accordingly with 'Urgent Defence' on 'close proximity threat detection' even before a potential attacker shoots etc.
They bypass any Morale Factors as it's an Urgent reaction.
Note: AI pilots may sometimes still not see the enemy approaching and then may still not react.
Note2: Aircraft that are Landing - if they are "On Beam" Final Descent to runway/field) then they will not abort the Landing.
Many variables for reaction to 'close proximity threats' when 'Landing' or 'Going Home' such as
Skill/Weather/Visibility/AI Vision/Fuel/Ammo/Aircraft Type/Health of Pilot/Aircraft Damage

Re: WOFF 2020 thread - 07/16/20 05:41 PM

The AI improvements sound good. With the upcoming aircraft assignment will the game also automatically assign one type of plane to any one flight rather than the current mix where low rank player might end up being lead by a pilot flying a plane with much better climb rate and cruise speed?

I also have a question about the contents of WoFF Platinum Edition: The list of new features on the PE store page mentions "New aircraft coming in 2020" which I assumed were part of the product but here I'm getting the impression that they will be part of the next paid update instead. So does PE actually include the new aircraft or not?
Posted By: Polovski

Re: WOFF 2020 thread - 07/16/20 06:27 PM

The aircraft assignment is totally different including Historical Aces so you will just have to wait and see. The point of the new options allow YOU the player to change any aircraft in your flight so really it doesn't matter. You cannot change aircraft that are assigned to the HA's, and only stock you have can be assigned (or put on order).

The new aircraft coming 2020 referred to more future addons and was a tagged line under item 28 which had new squadrons to allow new aircraft etc.

But actually as always things may change, there may or may not be new ones in WOFF 2020, even if there are not there's a possibility there still could be more new aircraft in 2020 and 2021 - depends on how much content we have by the time of release and what is finished.

Nice. One other odd AI behavior I've noticed most of the time, is the AI fighter escorts run away when they spot attackers.

WIP pics of the new Albatros D.I and D.II.

The D.I has a mishmash marking as I was still working on the details.
The D.II is a finished skin of Ernst Freiherr von Stenglin of Jasta 1.

Again, these are work in progress pics. I have to say I am very happy with the new D.I/D.II model. Some points to note are the actual modeled engine louvers, dual sided wheels, tight cowling, wires, and many mapping corrections. Also, the skin is now at a higher resolution.

The base wood pattern and several details in the skin is Paarma's, while I jumped in and went with wing patterns, details and many other aspects. A fun dual effort by the two of us. In honor of Makai who originally painted the D.II, I will be using many wing patterns, and markings from his original skins wherever possible.

Re: WOFF 2020 thread - 07/24/20 11:19 AM

OK next snippet of changes for WOFF 2020 that have been completed;
Nos 2 and 4 are related to no1 (posted here )
but still needed new or different code to perform this during other AI directives..

2) AI in 'Transit' now ALWAYS scan for 'close proximity threats', this is irrespective of the Transit 'Search Intercept' waypoint directive.
Search Intercept is a long range scan directive and is only performed if the AI are directed to do so in the mission file.
Close Proximity Threats are a short range scan - these are now always carried out.
Note: Aircraft may sometimes still not 'see' the close proximity threat approaching and then not react.
The variables for a reaction to 'close proximity threats' when in 'Transit' are: Standard Fight 'Morale Factors' (extensive checks e.g.: Numerical Odds of the two flights, Altitudes, Directions, AI Morale, AI Skill, Aircraft Type, Distance from Frontlines etc etc, Weather/Visibility, Do they actually spot the attacker? (human error),
Fuel and Ammunition status, Craft type, Health (Craft and Pilot damage states).

3) A2S: Fighters doing successive passes will now U turn closer to the target e.g. 'airfield attacks' and or 'balloon attacks'

4) AI 'Taking Off' are now more aware of enemy activity and react accordingly with 'Urgent Defense' on 'close proximity threat detection' even before a potential attacker shoots etc.
They do not assess any Morale Factors hence it's an Urgent reaction.
Note: Aircraft may sometimes still not 'see' the enemy approaching and then may still not react.
Note2: Aircraft must be in 'Form up' stage of takeoff before they will react - they cannot react when on the field, climbing out or levelling off - for obvious reasons
Again there are many variables for reaction to 'close proximity threats' when 'Taking Off' such as Skill, Weather/Visibility, Do they actually spot the attacker? (human error), Fuel and Ammunition status, Craft type, Health (Craft and Pilot damage states).

Thanks Pol for the update. I do like #3!
Now, during those scans is the AI blinded by the sun? Should we even bother attacking with the sun behind? Currently it doesn’t seem to make much difference. It feels like the AI’s vision isn’t affected by the sun glare.

an "urgent reaction" would be great to have for the escorting command in mission file, too. For fighter escorts if possible.
Posted By: BuckeyeBob

Re: WOFF 2020 thread - 07/24/20 10:02 PM

I think the urgent reaction item is a great addition to the AI behavior, and should significantly reduce the number of "sitting ducks" who are going home and don't seem to notice the hostile aircraft sneaking up on their tail.

I suggest a +1 or a +2 moral bonus for scouts when they are performing as escorts. They should be more afraid of feeling the boot heel of their commander for failing to protect the escorts than they fear getting shot at!

Guys it's not a suggestions thread please, there's a thread for that already. There's a lot more changes I have not listed yet.

There's a new feature to allow engaging BEFORE checking morale for a period and so on.

Alb D.II in the works.... 1916 vs 1917 markings. Will be more mixed and matched and painted over for the higher Jastas that were known to receive "hand-me-downs" as the upper Jastas began to receive and use new equipment.

Please notice that except from some early planes and prototypes the Johannisthal and LVG machines had the fuselage crosses shifted to the tail,

Thanks for this elephant. I only have a few D.I profiles to go by... JFM's book and the lot of the old skins. So I'm doing what I can to make it right. Although I have come across quite a few pics that show the fuse crosses in different locations...

BTW.. Who flew that No.7 D.I? If you know who it is, what Jasta and the colors of the markings, I could possibly put it in the game.

Thanks,

Re: WOFF 2020 thread - 08/17/20 05:46 PM

Quite right Hellshade smile

Some more of the new features include:

- Improved Collision Avoidance routines especially with regard to fast fighter boom attacks on slow moving targets - NOTE! Collisions will still occur just as in real life due to pilot error!

- Implemented dynamic air turbulence which makes each craft look more real as the pilots jostle to keep formation individually - varies each mission with some overriding criteria:
> 1) Depends on local wind speed - and weather patterns
> 2) Clear days may be turbulent or smoother
> 3) Gets worse in cloud

> Improved in cloud air turbulence.

> Implemented extra workshops setting that allows player to have wind affecting AI aircraft but not his own aircraft

- AI will now spend more time in 'A2A_Seek' looking for targets in A2A before going to A2A_Formup, also revised the limits on number of attackers per target.

- AI that are in A2A_Formup now 'check tail' to defend against potential attackers

and here the SE5, improved engine and cowl areas, radiator, wheels and more. Here it appears to have lost a wheel..

Re: WOFF 2020 thread - 08/24/20 01:14 PM

I'm a bit surprised there wasn't more of a reponse to Pols latest post, especially since it contains something that addresses a concern I've seen voiced by some.

- AI will now spend more time in 'A2A_Seek' looking for targets in A2A before going to A2A_Formup, also revised the limits on number of attackers per target.

I presume that means it's less likely that players will now feel like all AI eyes are on them, ignoring their AI wingmen. If it pans out, I hope that results in a more even distribution of enemy planes against one another instead of hogpiling on the player.

Also the A2A Seek after form up to check their 6 o'clock is great too. I will be curious to see how this balances out with AI morale who start running for home. Will they re-engage if they still feel threatened? Not necessarily looking for answers. Just excited to see how it plays out in the sky.

I do like that feature where the pilots don't become instant lawn darts after diving on low flying enemy planes in death throes. Well done!
That looks like a lot of AI work. Are you guys sure you're not working for Cyberdyne Systems?
Oh dear, even more turbulence for the poor N.11. Yikes!

A little sneak peak at what's coming up for the new Albatros D.II skin set.

1. Don't pay attention to the mapping issues... I know about it. This is a WIP and some of the models have not been updated in my game.
2. Note the variety of the markings: both size and style. These are transition skins... inspired by many photos I have seen that look very similar to this line-up.

Re: WOFF 2020 thread - 09/08/20 09:28 AM

And now for some more info:

> Improved formation target selection criteria when scanning skies to prevent chasing targets that are 'running' at medium range or greater,
or re-engaging targets that have previously been abandoned in A2A.

> Revised Speeds at which craft explode when flipping over - craft should now be less likely to explode - also improved pilots survivability in 'on ground' crashes.

Also, on this point aircraft now have damageable gear as shown in my previous post with the SE5 pic and landing without gear is more interesting now wink

> Ground proximity now has less of a bearing on AI reaction to threats.

> Aircraft will now start fighting for a period of time before doing morale checks to prevent immediately switching out of A2A and running.

> Reduced frequency of 'all 4 wing' failures.

> Improved Ground Avoidance code (now as per WOTR).

> Lots of improvement work on terrain, including small towns, better trees, improved railyards, many changes to get a more natural look! More colours, more blending and the area outsde of the WW1 area now will look more natural and much more (and more to come).

Some stunning views now (Work in Progress) :

Not sure if WM has xjouve's terrain in - but xjouve seems to have vanished so it is the same one that is out there if it is.

Hiya buddy! Good to see you still around.

I can say we're still a ways out .. but it's getting closer. I'm 75% done with my new Alb D.II skin set... And have a bunch of other skins to color correct. And now I see why... Hahaha.

I hope all is well with you!

As long as it's still due in 2020, I'm good with that. Looks like plenty of great stuff is getting put into the sim, so it will be worth the wait!

What WOFF excels at, better than all the others, is scale. Clouds can look huge and majestic. You feel tiny compared to the world as you should, unlike other similar sims.

That's a very good point! I don't think I've every read or heard anyone ever say that... but its very true. DCS and a heavily modified FSX made me feel the same when I was flying... as does WOFF. It has a lot to do with the amount of scenery at distance, and how well things are scaled.

Re: WOFF 2020 thread - 09/12/20 06:52 PM

Hallo @Pol,

WOW, I haven't expected such terrain! Compliment!

Short question:
My favorite region is Alsace. Do you know, if the town Mulhouse will have houses/civilisation with the new expansion? You can see only the main-streets, unfortunately not more so far (I know, @Xyouve has done it with his landscape-mod, but it would be nice, to have it with default too).

Thanks for answer and Greetings!

Re: WOFF 2020 thread - 09/13/20 08:11 PM

Well a lot has changed but I have no idea if that particular town is different - I don't have the time to go flying around too many places.

Can’t wait to see that animated engine in action. We’ll be discovering little touches like this for the next two years. So, how close are you to the release? Will I have enough time to spend my money on other trinkets before the next paycheque?
(Psst ... Pol, the port side of the rudder appears to have the mapping shifted down - there is a white and brown artefact at the tip of it.)
Lookin’ good!

BTW the "mapping issue" on the tail of the BE2HD is actually on the original skin not the model mapping. Other other skins do not show that. - not sure that is correct - could be.

I did that one Pol. Are you talking about the black tip on the rudder? I can't tell by the pic. I think that's supposed to be there on both sides? I'd have to look at the original template.

I see it now... Looks like the rudder is mapped too high on the template. It looks like an end to a part of some sort. I'm at work, so I can't look at the skin.

Posted By: Fullofit

Re: WOFF 2020 thread - 09/16/20 10:05 PM

Oooo, Pol that is nice. I was trying to zoom in and I realized I wasn't in the game. Darn!

OvS, I had a look at the skin. It looks like the tan paint didn't go all the way to the top of the rudder on that one side. The white and red rudder of the original template shows through. Good thing it's just that one skin and not all of the Albatros skins.

I said I wouldn't... but why not... hahaha! (it's kinda like hanging out with an old girlfriend...just can't help it...hahaha)

First.. thank you to all the guys that sent me all this great info and books! Here are some of the results...

Never seen before in any WWI Simulator (game) to date... Full Jasta line-ups...loaded... and this is still without the new version of WOFF! Can't wait to see the new assignments and look of the new vsersion!

Jasta 19 - February 1917... key notes: Albatros D.II with "Di" logo - I discovered on page 32 picture 78 of Windsock 100. I suspect to have been Walter Dingle's mount of Jasta 19. Other pilots Hahn, Rahn, Henkel (not seen) are fictitious imagined using similar technique of the original Jasta artist.
Jasta 23(b) - Feburary 1917 - key notes: Jasta 23 was the first unit to incorporate unit wide insignia. Flying LVG built D.II's will give them a totally difernt look. Jasta 16 flys them as well, along with a few others. The personal markings are all from actual books and descriptions. The forground D.II that is darker (Bruno Breitenbach) is actually stained and varnished. As LVG had suggested. This same technique is applied to many, but not all. You will see a lot of variation in the look of these planes... directly from page 35 picture 87 of same book.

Zoofa!

OvS

PS... ignore all mapping issues... that's because the models are not the new updated version... wait till you see those !!! WOW!!! 2 more weeks!!

Only the LVG has them, and also the LVG logo on the tail under the national insignia. I went with a three color paint style for the LVG as it was suggested.

I can only say great things about Shred for going into the level of detail he did to put so many pilots active in the game. It's as if you are really part of a living squadron, regardless of choice.

Ultimately it would be incredible to have a skin for every active pilot, not just aces we know of. Then you would see how definitive this game really is. I've never seen anything like it before, and never will again.

Another factor which this sim excels at, IMHO: Representing different skins, at the same time, for historical planes/pilots. I mean, it really is remarkable...like stepping back in time, seeing the rows of Albatros machines in full glory with colorful livery. Gives one a heightened sense of how the name "Flying Circus" came about.

Beautiful work.

Re: WOFF 2020 thread - 10/01/20 06:15 PM

The new features are so many now, and the list has not been internally updated for a few weeks, but here are a few meaty items ...

- Collision damage physics and effects associated with ground objects, scenery objects, terrain, and other aircraft overhauled and new effects implemented and or revised.

- Progressive damage now modelled for main wings - AI and Player

Which means if you have wing tip damage you had better get out of the action soon, perhaps the wing will begin to fail...

- All aircraft range/durations adjusted to be as near to actual as possible.

- FE2b can now fight more as a fighter it has new code to allow this specific case.

- Implemented a new mission replay function

(not to re-fly but to watch how the mission unfolded with various filtering options),

I mentioned the scenery is totally massively overhauled including much better blending and more, so we will have more on that later...

Re: WOFF 2020 thread - 10/01/20 07:27 PM

Pol, does that mean there will be less wings getting ripped off without a prior visual cue? I hate it when they just come off. Will we be able to spot the imminent catastrophe and nurse our bird back to base on a wing and a prayer?
Posted By: Polovski

Re: WOFF 2020 thread - 10/01/20 07:41 PM

I guess it depends on how you are losing wings, but the visual clue will be you have for example a wing tip missing wink .. then it's a good possibility if you fly on it will rip the rest off. If you overspeed there will now be prop whine, your wires start to "sing" and the aircraft will vibrate as you increase speed. If you are hearing and seeing all that you have some clues. Also over stress the creaking sound is there for a reason, too much and it will rip something off. Ease off in the turn or pull up if you hear creaking.
(There are also less wings ripping off in 1 go too).

So back to the actual point of this thread. smile After seeing those latest fantastic screenshots I have a couple of questions. Re: WOFF 2020 thread - 10/02/20 01:14 PM

Hi Lou, Not sure about trench fire lights - but of course anything we are doing we will eventually reveal in here. The rivers and terrain need a lot more work various funnies (Dover for example) and unfortunately xjouve seems to have disappeared since July sometime. If we had the source maybe we could continue.
From now on in the thread guys can we keep any discussion to the things we are showing or features we reveal.

Does this mean the horizon view range has been extended? From the images it looks like the “fog” in the background has been pushed further back.
Posted By: Polovski

Re: WOFF 2020 thread - 10/03/20 08:55 PM

There are some new visuals, for example now you can lose gear /wheels and the aircraft can now slide into a crash landing/belly landing.
Also how you impact some buildings and so on will decide whether you end up on the base/floor or stuck in the object.

The fog is haze, and yes WM is looking at pushing that further back among other things
Posted By: Fullofit

Re: WOFF 2020 thread - 10/03/20 09:03 PM

Excellent! Thank you Pol.
So now the airplanes have a chance of bouncing off the buildings then?
Posted By: Polovski

Re: WOFF 2020 thread - 10/04/20 06:04 PM

Yes basically sometimes they make be stick in it partially, other times will fall to the bottom of the building.
Posted By: Fullofit

Re: WOFF 2020 thread - 10/04/20 07:25 PM

Pol, interesting. So now we should be able to "land" on the roof, like in some of the period pictures.
First one to do it will ... ahh, we all know it's going to be Lou.
Thanks for the answer, Pol!

Now, when you say Fe2b can now fight as a fighter, does that mean the gunner will be more active, or will they actually do the protective circle?
Posted By: Polovski

Re: WOFF 2020 thread - 10/04/20 08:01 PM

Possible yes, can't comment on the gunner. Various changes have been done across the board but I can't say we tested the "activity". They won't do a Lufbery Circle.

Creaghorn is flying with the test version and he says they attack like more like scouts and are shooting from both guns as occasion needs. So they do well trying to get you into their shooting range and fire.

Just read this thread clew to earring. Incredible stuff coming. Love the reloading Lewis gun. Adds some nice balance trade-offs for the SE5. Yes, you have the fastest AC in the game but now you gotta swap out that drum, just when you had Fritz bulls-eyed. Great stuff. Will the Lewis be moveable as to firing position so I can fire upward?

I gotta admit, those last three pics kicked it up a notch again. You have to imagine the work that Micro$oft put into FS2020, and Pol & the gang are doing these stunning scenes on a single proccessor and a shoestring budget. I sure hope they have this done in time for us to make their Christmas merry and bright (and flushed with cash!).

WOFF undoubtedly has the prettiest and most realistic skies/scenery I've ever seen.

We are very disappointed, but we are heartened by the fact it's looking really stunning now with the zillions of changes, updates, new features. Pretty much everything has been uprated, improved, changed and we're still going smile.

We will update the website in a few weeks but for now we are still working and making...

Re: WOFF 2020 thread - 11/08/20 08:14 PM

I'm the poor guinea pig who is testing the new upgrade for quite some months now.

Honestly, as I told to Winder, actually this upgrade has so many new things and improvements, it could be content worth at least two upgrades. It is in many ways like a new game. There is lot more coding implemented to have more features in the squadron, to raise immersion even more. Literally everything has been improved or is completely new. Be it improved and additional sounds (my humble part), completely overhauled scenery, new and improved objects, smarter AI, new more immersive cockpit for the player, with the new visual and audible clues (they are doing an amazing job), improved airfield ambience etc. Countless more things.

Flying above frontlines, above towns or villages was a joy already, but now it has reached a whole new level. Flying in formation, watching and hearing the others around you - it never looked more realistic. A roaring formation, each indidividual fighting the elements, makes you feel invincible. The fight which occures when clashing with other formations sometimes simply makes me watch in awe, probably similar to back then when people on the ground witnessed huge furballs in WW1. Pol and Winder are working day and night and you are going to love it even more than before.

The only thing missing is me, as a player, wearing thick scarfs and cloths and smelling the burnt fuel and oil in my nose. :-)

Can't wait, Creaghorn. (Though I clearly will). Looks like 2021 will be a great year for WOFF or whatever it gets named as. It all sounds amazing but for some reason I'm really looking forward to the new audio and visual cues. Seems like the experience from within the cockpit will be more immersive than ever. Kudos to you and the dev team for crafting yet another Masterpiece.

Re: WOFF 2020 thread - 11/10/20 11:24 AM

There's so much in the sim now really is too many features overall to list - new features and changes we are around 90+ now. Even the list we have forgotten to add some new items. We'll have to have a good think wink

A ton of night missions in there already such as the night Gotha raids to London, and in the next WOFF we have adjusted many of the missions - dawn patrols may now start in darkness as the sun comes up. So you may likely do more night missions in FE's or anything else for that matter.

Here's another selection of some of the changes - I may have posted one or two before (I haven't checked);

'Trainable gun' Gunners are now only inhibited by rate of pitch/roll change and G Force - not static Pitch/Roll

Trainable gunners now park their guns if there are no longer any targets

Revised Random Number seed (should help for example with more consistent failures

Aircraft when on "Go Home" now 'climb' if on enemy side of lines and damage is < 30 %

Fighters now break off attack and leave targets that are severely damaged and/or too low

Trainable Guns now no longer target minor targets Buildings and Tents Trees whatever

Fighters will no longer try to engage other aircraft that are a lot higher up in altitude than them (opponent alt difference/range dependant).

Fighters will now do regular checks on morale and if they should continue - as it is in WOTR

Observer head animations - he will scan for enemies etc - (no currently he will not sit down/stand up)

Update: Ability in most 2 seaters to see an indication the observer is dead - now indicated by his head dropping. Also he is visible from external view as before.

....

Likely no new ones for the moment, we have one or two a good way through for likely release sometime afterwards.
We also have to work on WOTR some before coming back to aircraft. They will come.

Re: WOFF 2021 thread - 11/22/20 06:59 PM

To celebrate nothing in particular here are a few more from the new features/changes list coming in the next major release of WOFF:

Revised aircraft resupply rate and made it worse for German squads as war progresses to a close.

Squads that are 25 miles or less from the front lines now focus operations on the front line sector nearest them where possible.

A+B flights are now sometimes combined - all fly in B Flight.
German: 6/1917 onwards: they may combine both flights into B as one large flight quite often - as player, and as an enemy flight that player may run into if he is not German.
Other Nations: 6/1917 onwards - if A Flight is not allocated then B Flight is often now larger.

Frequency of ops revised and more intense during battles.

Enemy squads encountered are now more likely to be the squadrons in the immediate vicinity along the front lines.

Rank Mods: 1) On enlistment in any squad 2 pilots are ranked low - one high and the rest are middle ranks
2) Halved all prestige points to slow down promotion of AI and player.

1) When receiving aircraft upgrades squads are now allocated full complements of the new craft rather than sometimes receiving only partial complements, and having all the old replaced craft removed.
This avoids the player being penalized for an upgrade and having incomplete aircraft complements directly after the upgrade.
Note reserves are not always supplied but will be put on order as needed.
2) Upgrades now occur irrespective of spares holding.

Implemented the facility to override/change Scenario Weather.

Wheel Gear on all Aircraft can now be damaged in battle, on impact, or overstressed in hard landings - individual DM for Left and Right gear.

New Lewis Gun code - player can now (must now) reload (Ctrl+Shift+G) after each drum is empty (or anytime before) each craft has the historically correct number of drums and rounds.

Lewis Guns on Foster mounts can now be lowered (Ctrl+G) and raised (Shift+G) - Gun must be fully lowered to reload on those!

Posted By: Fullofit

Re: WOFF 2021 thread - 11/22/20 08:10 PM

Pol, despite celebrating nothing, this feels like a Christmas wish list.
Regarding the aircraft resupply rates, does this apply to player squad only or to all squads in the theatre?
I hate it when I decimate a Jasta in the morning and they’re up to full strength by afternoon.
Thank you for the update. The forum was getting quiet.
Posted By: Albert Tross

Re: WOFF 2021 thread - 11/22/20 08:20 PM

Those updates sound brilliant thanks.

I like the idea of the slowing down of the promotion rates, that's been an issue with flight sims since Red Baron, European Air War, IL2 days.

With regards to the Lewis gun and the Foster mount, can it be fired when down too?

That would be cool and historically accurate of course.
Posted By: Polovski

Re: WOFF 2021 thread - 11/22/20 08:55 PM

Fullofit, this is just for player squadron - actually thinking on it I'm not sure, I'll check on that.
How are you decimating a squadron wink ?

Albert: No, I knew someone would ask that.

Posted By: Robert_Wiggins

Re: WOFF 2021 thread - 11/22/20 08:56 PM

Albert Tross, I believe the issue of firing the lewis when retracted, has already been responded to by Pol. I don't believe that will be addressed in the next release, but if it is possible I suspect OBD will get around to it.

Best Regards
Posted By: Albert Tross

Re: WOFF 2021 thread - 11/22/20 09:17 PM

Hey guys, no worries, it's still a very realistic change to have the Lewis lowered in order to reload it. Means you can't just sit behind someone in your Nieuport, SE5 or even DH2 and blast away for ages. You'll have to be more careful about accuracy.

Re: WOFF 2021 thread - 11/22/20 10:22 PM

So from what I can gather - other than the visual, audio, AI, playback, map and numerous under the campaign engine enhancements...it's a fairly light upgrade. wink

Been waiting for this for a long time! clapping

If you reload when you've partially emptied a drum, will you be able to come back to it later or is it gone?

When you click on (Ctrl+Shift+G), will it lower, reload and return the gun or do you manually have to lower and raise the gun?

Re: WOFF 2021 thread - 11/23/20 09:10 AM

When you reload the old drum is gone. If it's foster mount you have to lower the gun first to reload, then raise the gun.

Good news. Flying past other airfields that could have handled the mission always seemed silly to me. I envisioned waving at them as they flew to patrol near my home field. And Intercepts with a twenty minute flight enroute are just ridiculous.

Very nice. I'm flying a German campaign right now and have gone from Offizierstellvertreter to Rittmeister in a period of six months. I've also been leading flights containing the Crown Prince (Jasta 2) and MvR (jasta 11).

Also very nice. Having to fly older aircraft than HA's that you outrank and who have fewer kills than you seems wrong.

It would be quite a treat. But it's also true that time spent putting together footage takes away from precious developer time. Hopefully we can fly WOFF: NEXT for ourselves within a few months. Work has finally slowed down for me so I plan on putting in a bunch of flight hours.

It's an incredible amount of code and work to make things "realistic", but flying past an airfield isn't a big deal as sometimes they may be attacking another different target also near the front. But yes it will be better as all things we try to make it better!

This is also related to campaign frequency setting in the Workshop, and the general OOB (Order of Battle) information for each squadron in the major battles which can vary.
There's a fair few squadrons.

The whole rebuilding the entire air war thing as I say is incredibly complex to make happen, even what is in WOFF at the moment. One day we may recreate real life 100%.

Nothing is ever going to be 100% but it's also true that even now, nothing else is even remotely as close to that unattainable goal as WOFF.

Too much info spoils things I think, but no it doesn't. Too much overhead to make all these happen everywhere, for example an AI pilot 5 miles away having to reload his lewis.

Re: WOFF 2021 thread - 11/29/20 07:33 PM

Hallo @Pol,

thanks for all the informations; it sounds great!!

I have only a short question in relation to this point:
"A+B flights are now sometimes combined - all fly in B Flight.
German: 6/1917 onwards: they may combine both flights into B as one large flight quite often - as player, and as an enemy flight that player may run into if he is not German.
Other Nations: 6/1917 onwards - if A Flight is not allocated then B Flight is often now larger."

Will the sim offer (or generate) different (or new) flight formations for large flights? To be honest, I don't know the historical facts about these formations.

Thanks for answer and Greetings!
Posted By: Polovski

Re: WOFF 2021 thread - 12/04/20 06:16 PM

There aren't new formations as such. We may have tweaked some and how flights combine but you'll just have to wait for the release to see how that is, or if w covering it in a video at some point.

Re: WOFF 2021 thread - 12/04/20 06:38 PM

OK a few more of the WOFF 202x features some of course we have posted clips of previouisly.
:

Built in Engine Rocker arm animation axes as well as Engine vibration animation axes.
Engine Vibration occurs
1) At Stall
2) At Overspeed
3) At low RPM
4) when engine damaged

Built in pilot head animation for player craft - Externally pilots 'scan the skies' and craft controls:
1) Shakes/Dither noise when engine/prop is turning
2) Faces forward when shooting.
3) Reduces scanning activity when injured and head slowly droops more as progressive injuries occur.

Also built in simplified head animation for all AI craft - faces forward when shooting.

Player Pilot head now shakes from wind buffet even when looking straight ahead i.e even with no active 'look' animation being processed.

Improved Collision Avoidance

Support for Historical Ace Rank and Ace Aircraft is now incorporated and used for both the player squadron and all AI squads.
Now appropriate text files can provide the data for an Ace's rank at any particular date, and also which aircraft he was assigned. Much more detailed and granular information is possible to be used now.

Re: WOFF 2021 thread - 12/06/20 01:15 AM

I hope my post wasn't construed as complaints, though I can see how it could be. I understand that trying to code everything that happens more or less on its own in real life is literally impossible. As much as one can who's never tried it, that is. Those are just a couple of things that I've noticed and put down to that very fact. I was expressing joy in the fact that you've finally managed to crack those nuts.

"WOFF: 202X" gave me another idea for a title...WOFF 20-Twentysomething.

Re: WOFF 2021 thread - 12/23/20 03:31 PM

OK good idea, I was going to wait until after Christmas as we are break for a couple of weeks break, but some great news ;

Matt Milne will be making us another title music track for this new WOFF!

We have also recently added some new features (after we had finished coding we thought). So now in flight you will now have various Goggle effects happening during flight really adds to the immersion (of course they are optional, and there are several customisation settings). So you will see various things including rain, dirt, oil etc.
We'll hopefully show more in a video when we are ready.

I mean, having a huge ping drop on where you're supposed to drop some bombs or attack wouldn't be that bad.

Although, after the Battle of Arras, it would annoying having "Travel to France!" "Travel to Filescamp!" ads pop up at home field.

Re: WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) - 01/20/21 10:16 PM

Here's some more of the features coming in WOFF BH&H2 to keep you going. Getting there...

Ace Aircraft slots (3) are now allocated by Rank - either from a "Rank file" (if existing) or as interpolated from the Aces Rank in the main ace file

AI squads 'regular pilots' now use their three slots of aircraft differently from mission to mission, and is rule based. e.g. Esc 62 (a dual role Self- Escort squad) will sometimes be seen using Strutters or Fighters depending on the mission!

Both Ace Rank and Ace Aircraft (including skin specification) historical Database files now supported, in order to track Ace Rank and Aircraft over time and allocate these as per historical research.
If an Ace is using an Aircraft from this Aces database, it is indicated in the main campaign GUI - "Active Airman" - next to the Ace's aircraft type by a '(*)'.

Player can now elect to override the aircraft allocations that are normally based on the AI pilots Rank. This is done in the Aircraft Inventory/Workshops interface accessed from the main Campaign GUI.
Overrides are visible in the main campaign GUI - "Active Airman" - and are indicated by a '(!)' next to the AI Pilot's aircraft type.
The player can only override normal AI Pilots - NOT ACES.

Player can now elect to override his own aircraft allocation that is normally based on his Rank provided the squad has alternative craft historically assigned.
This is done in the Aircraft Inventory/Workshops interface accessed from the main Campaign GUI.

(Note: for the previous two points, overrides remain in place until the craft selected by the player is no longer available to the squadron historically i.e. when they get sent back as trainers.)

Aircraft allocations are now shown in more detail on the main Campaign GUI - "Active Airman".
Indications are now included such as when there are insufficient aircraft to assign to the pilots or whether the AI pilots craft is in for repair and so on
If an AI Pilot cannot fly due to lack of default aircraft, or because of aircraft in for repair, the player can override the AI pilots allocation as above and provided there were other types of craft available to the squad historically,
and they are available in store, the AI Pilot can be rendered fully active again.
A tally of 'Grounded' pilots is displayed to the player.
Note: Aces always have aircraft available to them and thus are always equipped irrespective of losses or damage sustained.

Implemented the ability to 'Restore' a deceased pilot's Squadron in the Pilot Dossier GUI - Logs/Claims/Victories are all reset to 0 - player has to set up a new name rank, dob etc.

Optimised the Squadron complements to better reflect historical squadron levels - Existing Squad pilots will automatically adjust to historical squadron levels over time (pilots will transfer in or out each day)

Squadrons now attempt to always put up maximum complements from 1917 onwards.

Player Squadron State is now implemented.
The Squadron state is either:
'Operational'
'Working Up' - preparing operations at forward airfield.
'Forming Up' - for example at St Omer waiting for squad members to join (normally only for a few days).
'Settling In' - after a transfer to distant airfields.
'Deploying' - commonly to France
'Departing' - going to an Airfield in England closest to the coast of France to 'Deploy'
or
'No Operations' - due to loss of aircraft or other historical issue that prevented the squadron from operating on that specific day historically.
This status is displayed top left of main Campaign GUI.
This only applies if Campaign Mission Frequency in workshops is set to Historical - any other Campaign Mission Frequency setting overrides this functionality (O/R)

Squads that are not operational, due to one of the above reasons, will now no longer appear as an enemy squad or other friendly squad in the mission region of ops.
This is irrespective of workshop settings.

Posted By: Polovski

Re: WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) - 01/24/21 01:19 PM

So much has been changed including under the hood campaign, AI, etc It's looking like a standalone, but we have not still fully decided.

Even the other day, we thought we'd finished programming new things but ended up added much better hiding in clouds. Before clouds affected the general spotting but once you were spotted the AI headed to you and tracked you.

Now you can get into a cloud and within a few seconds you will likely lose the AI, (depends on thickness to an extent). So if you are in trouble it's another tool you could use as a get out of jail card - provided of course if you are lucky enough to get to the cloud before they get to you.

Making decent videos is only really possible now that most of the obvious in your face changes have been completed. I recorded raw videos all along but many are out of date due to more recent changes, and mostly focussed on my own work so not ideal. We'll get there.

Super! Clouds aren't just for show anymore! This will help even the odds a bit and adds even more tactical thinking into each mission.

I'm not sure exactly what all the squadron changes you mentioned above will do, but it sounds again that you have managed to improve both the realism and the enjoyment factor at the same time. Kudos!

Hi guys,

I don't know, if I missed it, but is the option to turn on/off the historical aces deaths part of this update?

Would love it so much. It breaks immersion to protect Manny Richti for the whole duration of the mission, see him go down in flames horrified and then coming back and see that "it was just a scratch".
Posted By: Polovski

Re: WOFF 2020 thread - 02/24/21 05:29 PM

Dyro, no it's the same as now. You can't turn off historical aces, but you use the option in Workshop to reduce them from 100s to just the top few.
If you had an "Aces off" button there would be absolutely zero real aces, and zero historical aces skins used and so on. Not something that can be easily done, or we want to do.
Posted By: Hellshade

Re: WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) - 02/24/21 11:47 PM

Mind. Blown.

Pictures alone cannot convey the immersion that comes from countless new details OBD has brought into BHAH II (beta). You can hear the pilots and ground crew shouting at each other on the field as you prepare for take off. When coming in for a landing on my DRI after taking some serious damage from a Sopwith Strutter rear gunner, not only did I have oil on my screen but the whole engine was shaking and shuddering like it was barely staying airborne. And yes, the rear gunners are dangerous even while pulling hard maneuvers. Attacking landing aircraft for an easy kill? Good luck with that. They take it seriously now. I even had another craft I wasn't attacking swoop down to chase me off the tail of the fellow I was after. The dirt and slightly restricted view from wearing the goggles (all optional in Workshop, of course) makes me feel like I'm really there. More than ever before, the war feels dirty and gritty. Seeing a pair of Spads on my tail firing away and tracers zipping by me, I felt genuine fear because all the new sounds (there seem to be quite a few!) and details worked together to pull me fully into the experience. The flight models, wind buffeting, pilots scanning the skies for danger, etc. There are so many little details added in all at once that this is the only way I can honestly sum it up the BHAH beta :

They used to say if you want to feel like you are flying in a WWI aircraft, fly ROF. If you want to feel like you are flying in the WWI war, fly WOFF. Not any more. WOFF BHAH II puts you in the cockpit flying a WWI aircraft during the war. It's not either or. It's both. I'm literally taking off work tomorrow so I can fly all day. It's that amazing.

A few pics of a Sopwith Bentley career I started with.

Pics alone can't do it justice by a long shot. Too many new and reworked sounds and animations that mesh together so well. The FM is a thing of beauty. I never feel like its on rails but at the same time its not overly "floaty" either. I'm not sure I've seen any FM behavior I'd want changed so far. One big improvement is no impossible straight dives by AI that I am unable to follow. They dive, but it feels much more realistic and if I work hard I can keep somewhat on their tail without losing my wings. Honestly, you'll just have to see it to believe it.

Re: WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) - 02/25/21 08:23 AM

Smashing pictures Hellshade. The new AI tweaks sound excellent, especially with regard to two seaters.

Some of the AI gunners are already pretty good, Rolands and Moranes seem extremely diligent already, Strutters, Caudrons and BE2's are pretty good, but the poor FE2b is flown like a sitting duck. Even when you're piloting, the AI gunner seems incredibly reluctant to fire his gun banghead which can be most annoying when you're trying to fly aggressively against enemy aircraft. You're like "Oi!!! What are you ffin waiting for!!! A bloody invite from the King!!! Put that Bully beef butty down and fire or I'll throw you out this thing myself".

So yes improvements to the 'aggressiveness' and 'anticipation' ability of the AI gunners would be great. They are already highly accurate as we know.

Great report, the anticipation is building...
I'm kind of worried about back seater firing (with true aim?) while hard manoeuvring,
is this possible or historical?

Only had a few encounters so far. Some of the shots seem wild and others are near misses and some hits. They fire more often but they aren't snipers.

Can you tell if these these things been fixed?

1. The exploding 4 wings breaking off at the same time

2. Escaping a dogfight by flying at treetop level because AI won’t fly that low

3. AI crashing into the ground when dogfighting below about 1000 ft

1 - Haven't seen that happen once and I have been trying to make it happen by hitting the planes pretty hard. Can't say 100% of course but at worst, it's now extremely uncommon.

2 - I don't know yet.

3 - Haven't seen it happen yet and have had a few low level scraps. Again, can't say 100% but at worst, no longer common.

Re: WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) - 02/25/21 12:38 PM

Wow ignore all the new stuff, and get straight to the three things you dislike orbyXP lol.

1. yes reduced in many instances it may still happen from a large explosion or massive damage whatever
2. All sorts of routines have changed and I know I have not tested that one, maybe don't use a "beat the game" strategy if you don't like it working. Maybe Todd can see how it looks.
3. Dogfighting low is inherently dangerous for you and AI, especially when damaged. However there are many AI changes and at least these two will help that come to mind on a quick look:
"Improved Ground Avoidance code"
"Fixed an issue with Boom and BoomF maneuvers at low level that would see the attacker often crash into the ground or dive inverted"

Thank you both for your replies.

Actually I’m very appreciative and grateful that you’re working to improve WOFF. Overall WOFF delivers on its promise of an immersive sim. For immersion, there is no other WW1 sim out there that compares to WOFF in its current state of WOFF PE. So, I can only imagine what awesome improvements will be coming in the new version. I am looking forward to purchasing the new version as soon as it comes out.

Edit: I was asking because Hellshade is a beta tester.

No worries orbyxP thanks. It was just as you didn't mention anything in the main previous posts so stood out .

Further to your questions actually they are all pretty much rare or eliminated. Creaghorn has been flying for some months and says he has not so far seen a ground crash in low level dogfighting. It has similar new code as we did for WOTR there. Obviously broken / killed craft will crash as before. Also, as ground avoidance is new code, and with the dogfighting manoeuvre change, they will behave differently so you will have a new experience.

Re: WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) - 02/25/21 01:45 PM

14 December 1917 Jasta 6 campaign patrol. 3 different segments of the same patrol. Among the interesting things to note is in the 2nd part of the clip (which I apologize, I apparently forgot to put a faded transition to, so it's just jumps straight to it), I decide to go after an enemy aircraft that's heading in for a landing. Not only does he go right into defensive fighting, but moments later another landing aircraft circling above also breaks from landing mode and boom and zooms me to clear me off his buddies tail. They are all working together better than ever and many of the few remaining weak points in the AI have clearly been addressed. Enjoy the clip!

Re: WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) - 02/25/21 09:38 PM

Well it's been a full day of near nonstop flying. Girlfriend is coming home soon but he's a few extra pics Pol has been kind enough to allow me to share.

My impressions are overwhelmingly positive. Even after... (wow)...over 10 nearly straight hours in the cockpit flying lots of different types of aircraft, I'm not only not bored of it...I want to fly even more (maybe after a pizza!) So many good things but here are a few of my personal favorites so far.

1. Weather effects like rain never get old. I used to hate flying in the rain before, so much so that I turned it off. Now, with the water effects on the goggles turned on, the immersion of it just draws me in every time.
2. Easter egg sound effects keep popping up and they are great. Wind in the wires. Creaking airframes during landings. Busy ground crews shouts before takeoff. I think some of the older sounds may have been redone as well, but not 100% sure.
3. Mission Replay is awesome. After the mission is over, you can see just your flight, all aircraft or everything and watch it all get plotted out moment by moment. Really gives you an appreciation for how much is going on in the sim around you.
4. Performance seems just as good despite all the extra goodies going on. Not sure how they managed it, but somehow they got more without seeming to cost the CPU / GPUs more. That's purely subjective. I didn't run a bunch of tests. I just didn't notice any degradation in performance from WOFF PE.
5. Damage modeling is greatly improved. Not one 4 wing explosion yet...but I did clip both left wings off an Alb once! It all just looks and performs much more realistic now. Nothing is 100% but I think everyone's going to be really happy with the quality improvements. Just feels more satisfying.
6. Rear gunners are in the war and active but also not snipers. I flew an Fe2b and set it to autopilot. When we got jumped by Albs, the AI made great defensive moves and the gunner took a lot of reasonable shots at nearby enemy targets despite rarely flying flat and level.
7. Its so immersive, even the simple stuff is genuinely enjoyable. Doing anything in the rain (takeoff, patrol, dogfighting, landing). But even without the weather effects, the way the plane engine shakes, the sounds. Everything just feels more real and you don't want to skip past it.

What don't I like? Well I'm in beta so I'm not going to say. But what I will say is the 2 things I noticed were very nitpicky in nature and at least one of them is probably easily fixable. It's just an all around a big leap forward with no real steps backwards. And they are still working on it. The pics really don't do it justice. The tracers might look too big in the screenshots possibly, but in the sim when flying, they are spot on. When everything is in motion, the world just comes together so nicely. Well, until the bad guys show up...but it wouldn't be much of a sim without them so no complaints!

Cheers!

Hi, I'm testing BHaH2 for months now

1. Not sure if eliminated completely but I haven't seen that in a long long time

2. AI is way smarter now in that because the ground avoidance is completeley new, thefore how they behave when chasing you at low level. I can tell you so much. Running at treetop level is no guarantee for escaping anymore. I was shot down quite some times until I figured that some "old ways" do not work anymore. I would describe it in a way, that they behave at low level how probably most humans would behave, as a good mixture between safety and attacking.

3. I haven't seen a groundcrash during a low level dogfight once in all those months. Not a single one.

Regarding observers, they are influenced by g forces and hard maneuvers. They won't be able to shoot while getting thrown about in their seat. But that doesn't mean they only shoot when flying level. E.g. they can shoot during flying a curve etc. because they are not thrown about and g forces are not too high to prevent shooting during those sequences. Also Twoseaterspilots will try to give the observer a good aim. Of course there are different qualities and skills.

Regarding some patches which reduce distant eyecandy etc. to improve performance etc., i think for most it won't be necessary. BHaH2 is optimized better than ever. WM has done some miracles. I'm flying with all settings on highest and with highest air activity and still have no drops in performance.

Regarding large dogfights, yeah, that can absolutely happen. The footage in my vid was from campaign. If two large flights clash together and probably one or the other also joins in, there can easily happen furballs of 30 or more AC. And still, I haven't experienced any decrease in performance.

Cheers

If we can please leave the talk of mods at this stage probably best to wait until release. Some may prefer more eye candy and some will prefer more fps or whatever. We have made optimizations to balance things - given there is a lot more going on vibrations head and other anims etc but obviously we can see how it goes.

I have been in several of these and they are amazing to witness and be a part of. The noise of engines as planes dive screaming past you along with more frequent gun chatter and the un-nerving experience of tracers zipping past your head makes it feel quite claustrophobic at times. More than ever, too, you will be presented with choices of "Do I finish off the guy I am saddled up behind or break off to save my ally who's being chased by one or more enemy aircraft?" If you keep labels turned off so planes are easily lost in the clouds or against the scenery below, it can cause a little bit of paranoia.

I have also noticed they are smarter about how they run away. More than once I was chasing an enemy who was running for home but I was flying the faster plane. As I was gaining but still too far to begin shooting, sometimes they would break hard left or right to re-engage, knowing apparently that running was a losing strategy.

Again, pics don't really do BHaH II justice even though there is some great new scenery blending, etc. So much of it is in the sound, animations and AI, but it's still not too hard on the eyes either.

Thanks Rick! I decided to see what kind of formations the Germans put together during Bloody April. 15 planes on my patrol made me feel very safe!

Excellent video Hellshade.

Showing off the new effects very well indeed cool

The Triplane was a great aircraft but they didn't stand a chance against so many Albatros scouts and this demonstrated perfectly the German's new tactics to the fore, large groups of scouts at high altitude.

I liked the way all three kills seemed to crash within about two hundred square meters of each other. I bet they still manage to reject a couple rolleyes biggrin

That was a scary video Hellshade!! Near collisions and difficult visibility through the blood stained, and rain drop effects on the goggles. I'm surprised your pilot didn't die in the air from blood loss.

Holy Ramflieger, Batman! All those aircraft swirling about and only a single collision. Nice. The AI code adjustments appear to be spot on, though I did wince several times with all the near misses. Kaiserschlacht and late 1918 are gonna be even tougher now. Yikes!

A 'push googles up' key might be just the thing but that's more for a wish list than this thread.

Great video, Hellshade. Bravo, OBD.

Hope to be able to post some terrain pics later in the week. Devs are hard at it and still making changes so don't want to share anything without their approval. What I will say is the new terrain looks more organic than ever, in my personal opinion. It always looked good, but like so many other aspects of WOFF BHaH. II, they took it to the next level.

Agreed, there is something more 'stand out' about the houses and other buildings in the new version, you can see it in the films you've put up Hellshade and also particularly in that third picture with the Nieuport. Very realistic, dare I say almost photogenic.

Re: WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) - 03/04/21 04:53 PM

Regarding Hellshades latest screen shots:

I am troubled by a panic response in certain places, like roads along a cliff. Which is weird, because if I were to encounter a few fellows along said road who were rappelling down said cliff, I'd tie on a Swiss seat, latch in my caribiner and have the time of my life bounding down the cliff. I was the first guy in my training group to be able to run face first down the cliff because the first two guys in line couldn't do it. Phobias are not rational.

I said all that to frame my experience with WOFF. I had, at the time, three simulators on my machine, all with enhanced scenery - the European WWII thing that the guys over at sim-outhouse were working on, Microsoft FSX, and whatever the current flavor of WOFF was. I've always tried to be a Day 1 purchaser! But WOFF was and remains the only sim where I was in a bank, turned my head to look at the ground and said "WHOA!" and really got that initial instinctual rush of, "Hey guy, you are 'WAY too high!" fear.

This is an amazing piece of work - it's only getting better. I can't wait to get back into the virtual skies!

Good question.

I think it would be a nice idea to have both options, tbh - a DLC/Upgrade option for those that already have purchased UE with PE expansion (a bit less costly), and a stand-alone (priced at a level that is more affordable than needing to buy UE + PE + BHaH II DLC, but more than a DLC upgrade alone (if that makes sense)). This way people who have been loyal supporters and have purchased everything to date get a bit of a discount, and it is also a quick and easy one shot purchase for those that have not too - win-win. (and it would also allow those members who have the extra $ and wish to simply donate more of it to OBD (or just simply want a stand-alone too) to make that choice as well).

The problem with multiple versions is maintaining them, updating etc gets messy over time when expansions come along as so on. We are trying to keep it simple as possible, we shall see. As I said a couple of times it's looking like a full new version/install currently.

Mr. Matt Milne has outdone himself with the new soundtrack. It moves effortlessly between hauntingly beautiful and soaring patriotism, Honestly, looking at the new BHaH II screen and listening to Matt's work, it feels like you are at the world premier of an epic film because the production values are so high. On the one side I understand @Pol absolutely on relation to a complete new sim. On the other side, as @Redwulf has mentioned it above, an update for UE/PE-user would be a good second way.

At the end it is even for me, because I will purchase BH&HII.
But, to be honest, it would be sad IMHO, when UE/PE will be only past suddenly, from one day to the next day.

Who cares? It's not as if ALL of us haven't had our money's worth from all that came before. Nothing's forever green and it's absurd to expect the devs to garden older stuff forever, no matter how much we love it, as the speed of change accellerates. Sure we've paid for upgrades...and enjoyed them for a looooong time....but new model cars come out every year and upgrades to last years stand-out don't really happen....same here. Pony up....fly the new hotness...it'll be worth it 100 times over. If you pro-rate the $$ you've spent for the years of pleasure you've had.....it's been a good effing deal.

Re: WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) - 03/12/21 01:09 AM

I picked up PE Oct 2019, so a almost a year and half ago, for 25 bucks. Before that it looks like Oct 2016 for Ultimate Edition, for 65.

I know everyone's financial circumstances are different and I certainly don't want to discount that. I can only say for me personally if someone asked me if I'd pay an average of 20 dollars a year to have this kind of great single player focused air combat simulator I'd have no problem saying yes! There are just so few people making these the price seems more than fair.

Don't begrudge anyone for having a differing opinion of course, just that when I average out the cost over the amount of time these guys have been producing it seems okay (to me).

Hello.
Polovski, I understand that you own your business and are free to be sarcastic. but you won't argue that a year and a half of PE development is a short time. I know that any decision you make, whatever it is, will be applauded, you have a group of loyal fans and of course your sim is the best of all time.
In fact, I bought this sim motivated by the opinions of its loyal followers, but the truth is that I find it beautiful but very arcade. Of course I'll see the new sim and if I'm interested or not.

Asam71, I along with many others have purchased everything WW1 related that’s ever been produced by OBD and also WOTR.

Has it been a small fortune? Yep it has..do I regret a single purchase? No absolutely not for the hrs\money ratio for me at least it’s been a bargain.
I’m not here to tell you what to buy how to spend etc, and your well within your right to ask your questions regarding PE but ultimately it’s your call pal. You’ll still get many happy hours flying WOFF PE, you wanna stick with that a bit that’s absolutely fine. But personally speaking from what I’ve seen so far from BAaH II ,it won’t take you long to cave in biggrin

Happy flying regards Adger. cheers

Re: WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) - 03/12/21 08:21 PM

@Asam71
We all don't decide the kind of release. We can say our meaning here, what we would like to have, what not, what is better, what is worse. … . But we don't decide it.
I know, I have written, that it is sad, when UE/PE are past suddenly, and indeed, it's my opinion (so much good work of OBD and the mod-experts!). But, as @Gaw1 has written, every model / product is past one day (sniff).

Perspective:
And I'm sure, that OBD will work with WOTR for a longer time after release of this big BH&HII with so much work (nobody speaks about the second sim WOTR since months!). So I can imagine that BH&HII could be the WOFF-Base for a longer time (maybe as UE and PE summed up). With such a perspective a full new WOFF-sim would make sense absolutely.

So think about it, make your tentatively decision and wait for the release.
I will purchse it, even if it is new or an update.

Greetings!

Indeed. Some of us are just old enough to remember all the frustration we heard from some quarters that updates for WOFF were taking too long during the time the devs were focused on creating WOTR. Given how few WWI flight sims there are in development, it's almost mind-boggling to think anyone is frustrated by the idea that updates are happening too often. Of the two, I'm going to vote for the latter "problem" over the former any day of the week.

Absolutely. That's exactly why I came to purchase WOFF in the first place. From years of playing RB3D and then ROF but development of ROF was dead.

The whole point is that WOFF isn't dead, it's very much alive and about to have a brand new update.

Which is fantastic news whoohoo ....for most of us anyway rolleyes .

I'm not sure donuts will be enough Lou with all this crazy talk. dizzy

Re: WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) - 03/13/21 04:04 PM

With all due respect...

I think it's inaccurate to interpret what Asam71 was saying to mean 'updates were coming too soon'. This muddies the water, so to speak - IMHO.

I think what he's saying is it's a fairly short period of time for an update which for all intent appears likely to be a 'full-cost', stand alone installation, with no reduced-cost option for those who purchased PE (relatively) recently.

I doubt he'd be concerned if it were available at lesser cost for those who already (in the past year or so) bought PE. But, TBH, it doesn't look much like that's going to happen (yes, I know it's not official yet).

I chose not to purchase PE, opting instead for my own reasons to make a substantial cash donation to OBD worth several times the 'going rate'.

However, even though I didn't buy PE, I do agree that anyone who did should be given a discount on the new release (like several others in this thread).

I could be wrong in my interpretation as well - but I don't really think so, FWIW. (He did say "If it is a new installation, I hope that those of us who have WOFF PE are taken into account.", so that's where my perspective comes from)

Of course, everything in the foregoing statements are my own opinion, which I am quite accustomed to being attacked for here. It is what it is.

Absolutely smile Hopefully Asam71 can/will clarify his position on the matter. As I said, IMHO his point was misunderstood.

The thing is, some here seem to be unaware that English (it appears) is a second language for him - and again, this isn't something that anyone should be attacked for. IMHO it's caused confusion more than once.

As for the attacks, I agree completely it shouldn't happen. But I think that there are plenty of examples of where it does, which is most unfortunate.

Re: WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) - 03/13/21 05:46 PM

@ Hellshade.. Fantastic shots, it’s looking absolutely brilliant I cannot wait to see what magic the lads have conjured up again thanks for posting and of course teasing us you bounder biggrin .

EA release FIFA every 12 months and FIFA 21 sold over 1.5m copies in its 1st month alone, despite there being very little content upgrade from FIFA 20 ( I know my lad has it every year for Christmas.). We’ve had PE for nearly 18mths and UE for is it for over 4 years ? Wow.thats gone fast...and there’s still plenty of life in it if anyone chooses not to invest in BHAH II.

If there’s a discount for owners of PE that’d be great for some, but if there isn’t then so be it. I think there’s people who forget that this is still a primarily 2 man show who work long hours to provide IMO the pinnacle of WW1 sim aviation at probably very little profit to them considering the hrs worked. I’d be surprised how OBD could find out who owned PE and who didn’t? How much future development time would it take up for them to say..check all the emails for PE order numbers etc?
I think it’s pretty simple no matter what language you speak or nationality you are..If you personally think BHAH II is worth it then you’ll purchase it, if you don’t you won’t and that goes with anything that you buy.
Regards.

My comment concerning language was strictly because there have been a number of times what Asam71 wrote was completely taken wrong. That's all. No one said he misunderstood anything, in fact I'd say his understanding sums it up just about perfectly. He said he thinks those who purchased PE should be kept in mind and others in this thread have said the same thing.

No need to insult anyone by implying he didn't understand. The misunderstanding was entirely others taking what he said wrong.

Re: WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) - 03/13/21 06:28 PM

When you say "It's pretty simple no matter what language you speak", it seems pretty obvious what you were referring to. If not, it's certainly a remarkable coincidence you only said that *after* I made the comment about language.

And it implies someone doesn't "understand" the value that (according to you) this sim is, just because of speaking another language. That's insulting. His opinion of the value of the upgrade has absolutely nothing to do with his nationality or language.

Whatever. Let the reader decide. I'm pretty sure it's not that hard to see what I'm saying.

Absolutely. I think a lot of the comments concerning Asam71's points originate in misunderstanding of what he's (trying hard) to say. The guy's been attacked ever since he first posted on the forum, in my observation, just because he speaks his mind.

Re: WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) - 03/13/21 06:46 PM

Like I said, let the reader decide. Coincidence? Hardly, IMO. (It would've been easy enough and to the point to say "It's simple to understand..." - it's the part you added about language and nationality make it appear much more than coincidence).

And please stop with the personal attacks:

Re: WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) - 03/13/21 08:49 PM

Please take the arguments elsewhere guys. Keep it civil this is the BH&H2 thread. Yes we are just mostly two people, doing everything with some help from Creaghorn and occasionally other team members (for example OvS did some updated skins for the DI DII this time which are great!). However 99% of the work is day after day night after night, weekend after weekend to get here by myself and WM. If we give it away, it will be the last of anything we ever make. So WE must decide how to sell it, when and how much, and if there is a discount or not.

As I said PE (which is an addon to UE) does not suddenly stop working when we release BH&H2. We have kept an eye on it all this time, and nothing really needs fixing in PE. It works and is good.

Re: WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) - 03/13/21 09:29 PM

Pol & WM, thank you for doing what you do for us WW1 fans. I fired up PE for the first time in quite a while this past week, in anticipation of BH&H2's hopefully imminent release, and
i really enjoyed it. There's plenty of long term value left in it, I think. Perhaps if you do manage to create and add new aircraft in the future for BH&H2 you might also make them available as add on packs to PE?

It's tough to construct a business model out of such a small market niche. Understanding that, I will always buy everything you release without giving pricing a second thought, as I expect most other long time WOFFers will.
Posted By: Albert Tross

Re: WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) - 03/13/21 09:50 PM

Adger, you've nothing to apologise for. The thread was already being dragged down the 'how much will it cost and will it be cheaper for those who bought PE' again and you made your point clearly. What came after that was pure claptrap.

I bought PE', does that mean I'd like this new version for less? Of course...but will I have a hissy fit if they don't....no...because as Pol says...if they give this away...that's it....no more updates...and I don't want that...the whole point is this is a living breathing sim. THAT'S the difference.

What Pol has again made clear is that it is up to them. They've put in the effort it's their 'baby' so they'll decide. Then we'll decide to buy it or not. That's the point you made Adger mate and it was clear as day.

If we're all impressed enough we will, if not, or we think it's too soon after PE, we won't.

This new upcoming version isn't being done because there's anything wrong with PE there isn't it's brilliant and still worth every penny.

It's being done because they've realised that improvements could still be made and being professionals and true to their art they want their product to be the best it can be, so that's what we're about to get.

The new screenshots look fantastic btw the Gotha is an awesome creature, I've yet to come up against it in a career mission...can't wait.

Hellshade, would you possibly have time to try these out?

1. You mentioned previously that you were able to keep up with diving AI when chasing them to the deck. Have you tried experimenting to see if you can do it without destroying your wings?

2. Climbing during takeoff with a full load of bombs vs no bombs. Is there a difference in aircraft performance?

3. Training mission with capt Triggers the same?

4. Do you see a difference in fuel leak vs oil leak when you hit the AI?

Thanks

My two cents on this thread.
I fly PE. When BH&H2 comes out, I'll have the same choice everyone on this board will have. You'll either purchase the sim, or you won't. Whether or not I get a discount for having PE doesn't matter. I'm buying the sim, whatever the cost. It's just that simple.

Re: WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) - 03/14/21 01:36 AM

My tuppence worth ,,,, the visual representation of the aircraft and scenery seem to have undergone a surreal, oldy-worldy oil painting quality I've not experienced elsewhere, where they can just look too new and happy shiny. It's quite unique. Like a work of art I guess. I don't know if this was intentional or a happy accident but to my old eyes it's quite astonishing. I look forward to flying through a moving oil painting and dying often somewhere between heaven and hell .... soon I hope.

Which skins are changing in BH&H2?

It seems like I saw a post that indicated that Albatros DI and DII skins were being updated but I can't find it now. Are these the only ones being changed or are there other German planes that will have revised skins? Will there be any changes to British or French skins?

I've been using many additional skins that Sandbagger and Jerbear have released in the past. I intend to continue to use them with BH&H2 unless updated ones for the same aircraft have been included in the new release. Is there any reason that I shouldn't?

What an incredible shot! Nice one Hellshade! I'm very happy to see what it finally looks like in the game. I couldn't see any of the new effects on the cowling metal and what it does to the colors. Thats the Jonathal built Alb D.II.

If you fly with Jasta 16b, you'll see the LVG built Alb D.II skin. While flying with Jasta 17 will give you the OAW built Ald D.II. Don't forget to fly the Alb D.I with Jasta 2, 6 or 8.

I hope your enjoying the new game! I can't wait!!

Personally cannot wait to see the new skins OVS, your work along with the other skinners even from early OFF days are superb. It really ramps up the immersion factor when you flying alongside famous aces and they have their own personal skins.
How long do you reckon you’ve spent over the years from OFF to WOFF and now BHaH II actually skinning OVS? ...Fantastic work.

Theoretically this should work - I also look forward to trying it out - should work also for my FM tweaks and the GPU Tuner but I have to do some studying of the stock files in BHAH II once it comes out, to see what needs to be toggled/changed. Will also give it a couple of spins in stock form to see how the FPS hold up without the tuner patch. Exciting testing and mod-compatibility assessment times ahead. smash

Happy flying all,

Quick impressions update. I have had multiple low-level dogfights, one of which lasted several minutes with quite a few planes, and in all those encounters I only witnessed one plane dive into the ground. It was towards the end of the fight and I can't at all be sure it wasn't damage or had a dead pilot as I only caught it at the last second at the corner of my screen. In all likelihood, it was a legitimate kill. I was able to escape one time by hedge hopping, but there was only one plane on my tail and he gave up after a short while.

As for extended AI dives that in previous versions were unable to be followed by players without ripping one's own wings, I can say my impression is things are significantly improved. First, the AI dives themselves seem to be a bit shorter than before. They can still be steep, but they don't seem quite as long as before and for the most part, I am able to keep up if I'm careful with my throttle and angle of descent. It feels like it's right on the edge of doing damage to my wings, which is great! You can follow them, but it takes skill and daring to do so. Second, my impression is the AI seems to use a little more variety in how they dive to escape. Sometimes it's a straight plummet, others it's more of a controlled circular spiral.

Nothing is ever going to be 'perfect, but all in all, the AI in BHaH II is by far the best iteration yet.

What with all the new sounds and graphic effects, the atmosphere and immersion in BHaH2 have reached a whole new level! I really like the enhanced machine gun and engine sounds.

BTW, is that a new "grunt" sound around the 3:43 mark?

Yes, it is a new pilot injury sound. A number of the damage sound effects have been very nicely redone by Creaghorn and he's done a wonderful job.

You can also see from that video how much harder it can be to keep track of opponents when your goggles are dirty, cracked, bloody and it's raining. Especially depending on the aircraft's paint scheme blending in with the ground terrain.

It was actually a mis-mash of the Brady Bunch and Won't Get Fooled Again, as catch noted. We used to be over there and then left for reasons that escape me but are now apparently back, which will be nice once we get a forum architecture established over there...

Re: WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) - 04/08/21 11:28 PM

I bought UE and PE on 25th of February and am wondering if the switch to BH&H2 would be worth it. Not really interested in blood filled goggles and other gory effects so are the menu's the same and has the scenery been improved or added to since PE please?
Posted By: Adger

Re: WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) - 04/09/21 12:11 AM

My honest opinion Baxter.. menus are primararily the same, a review after mission menu has been added which is a great touch.

Now game wise, yes the scenery is very much improved also the night lighting..FM feels great the new animations on player models and different craft are excellent.. the sounds are absolutely brilliant (wires creaking, engines clunking ect) they blow PE out of the water..Ai i feel has improved over what was already arguably the best A.I in any sim available, and imo the game "feels" and runs smoother. Dont know what it is but it certainly feels that way to me. I didn't fancy the goggles when i 1st read about them but now..i couldn't fly without them they do add an extra immersive layer.

Me personnally? If id have bought WOFF UE/PE only a few months ago i'd be a bit miffed that the newer release has landed but...If you could see or get a taste of what we that are flying BHaH II see, i think you'd purchase.
Thats honestly my thoughts i hope it helps in some way cheers

Re: WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) - 04/09/21 12:23 AM

Thank you Adger. I will purchase the new one. I have only done three quick combat missions (Pilot never dies) in the PE version and thought well maybe I had not had enough experience to appreciate any changes. On the other hand, when I could afford it I bought just about every ujpgrade or new new plane for RoF when I did not fly that either (not buying Flying Circus). I have always believed in encouraging those really talented folk who promote aviation and our history.

Re: WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) - 04/09/21 12:27 AM

To be fair, its far easier to experience all the changes and gain full appreciation for the new additions when flying a career, not quick combat. IMO anyway.

Honestly i think you'll love it mate, Its an all in one installer, installs the 7000 (18.2GB) of skins automatically and the devs have already released a small patch ONE day after release, thats dedication.

I own about 2/3rds of ROF and most of the box series (im also not bothering with FC) and i will fire one of them up from time to time if i fancy a quick battle (A.I is a different story in the sims especially friendly A.I) but i agree entirely with your post, especially regarding WW1 aviation its a niche within a niche..It'll be a sad day indeed when Devs stop developing these sims..Heck I've even purchased European Air War from GOG and downloaded the OAW pack from MR Jellys downloads here at Sim HQ yep

Hi guys, a few quick questions to whoever have figured them out already.

- how do you assign keys to lower/raise Lewis for reloading or is it the same button as for Attempt unjam?
-the new ingame is swell, however, is there a way how to zoom and pan it around in mission? The default unzoomed version is not helpful unfortunately.

Thank you!

Flying circus looks great on the visuals, but it all seems kind of "off" - am I right? Not even mentioning the crappy AI and mission structure.

It is 'off' because it really doesn't feel all that alive, much like the rest of BoX. Worth noting too that Flying Circus (Vol I at least) doesn't even have a proper in game career as of yet. As for the AI? In my experience they are very fond of the 'spin in a circle' technique. Though I did see one fake their death and do a death spiral once, or at least I think so, so there's that at least

The keys are already assigned, if you uninstalled the previous WOFF properly.
As per the website Support page;

" New key commands in WOFF BH&H II:
CTRL+G = Lower Lewis Gun
SHIFT+G = Raise Lewis Gun
CTRL+Shift+G = Reload Lewis Gun

These are needed now as BH&H II has a new feature to allow more realistic ammo usage in the Lewis gun. Once a drum with its 97 rounds (or 47 in the early version) is empty you need to reload. If the aircraft has a Foster mount which allows lowering of the gun you must do that before attempting to reload. SE5, SE5a, SE5a Viper and Nieuport 17 Lewis have this. Others are fixed (e.g. Nieuport 11, 12 etc) so you can simply reload. Note in real life pilots stood up on the seat to do that! "

zoom ; use the [ ] or the mouse look zoom with middle button (see the FAQ),

Re: WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) - 04/09/21 07:26 PM

Pol - My version came with Shift-G to raise the Lewis. As an experiment, I attempted to assign CTRL-G to 'Raise Lewis Gun. The WOFFkeys program would not allow me to do so since CTRL-G was already assigned.

Re: WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) - 04/10/21 01:57 PM

First of all, many complements to the WOFF team. When I first heard of the plan for a “WOFF 2021”, I found it hard to believe that it could improve much on WOFF PE.

How wrong I was! This latest incarnation runs silky-smooth, is a delight to look at (_love_ the scenery!) and has some excellent new features. All I probably need now for full immersion is a 6-DOF seat and a fan to blow my silk scarf wink

Do have one query though. Was pleased to read this:
New key commands in WOFF BH&H II:
CTRL+G = Lower Lewis Gun
SHIFT+G = Raise Lewis Gun
CTRL+Shift+G = Reload Lewis Gun
But it doesn’t work for me, whether I try the left or right CTRL or SHIFT keys. Interestingly also I can’t “commit suicide” with CTRL-SHIFT-K (had to try!), and I can’t find the above-mentioned Lewis Gun action keys in the WOFFKEY.exe program (but the suicide key is there).

BTW I did uninstall the old WOFF PE installation before installing WOFF BHH II.

Advice please?

Cheers
Stay Well

Re: WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) - 04/10/21 02:08 PM

Mike...you have to hold CTRL + G until it slides all the way down, and the same to raise it. I thought I just had to do the button combo quick and it would lower automatically, but you have to hold the combo.
Posted By: Polovski

Re: WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) - 04/10/21 02:20 PM

As AceMedic says you have to hold both keys down, CTRL and G, for some time, and ONLY works on SE5x series, and N17 Lewis (i.e. with the foster mount).
Stick the TAC on (and make sure the advisor is enabled CTRL+T) and he will tell you to lower gun if needed.

Re: WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) - 04/10/21 04:54 PM

Thanks Polovski,

Re-tried it as you suggest. Still no joy.

I’m wondering if the uninstall of the previous version was not fully effective, leaving a “legacy” WOFF PE keylist lurking somewhere? This suspicion generated by a) after uninstalling using Win10 Control Panel/Programs and Features, there were still many(maybe all) files in the old WOFF PE directory, and b) I can’t find any of the Lewis gun reloading key combinations in the Keylist.exe program.

Short of a further uninstall/reinstall, is there anything I can do/anywhere I should be looking?

Thanks

Mike

Re: WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) - 04/10/21 05:28 PM

I'll be doing support in CA shortly, rather than here. You must use the WOFFToolbox to uninstall Mike.

However to avoid that un-install and reinstall, to get a default BH&H II key setup.. you could try go to "Re Map Keys/Controllers" in workshop to configure your keys again by using "reset all to default" in the "Wings Over Flanders Fields Function Bindings" tool (top right area). Save.
Of course that would wipe any controller settings you have and you'd have to re configure.. You could backup your old, probably incorrect, WOFFkeys.xca found in
C:\Users\<YOUR_LOGON_NAME>\AppData\Roaming\OBD_Games\OBDWW1 Over Flanders Fields first in case.

Actually Mike, send me your old WOFFkeys.xca in support email, and I'll have a quick look.

Just wanted to drop by and say thanks OBD for another outstanding product.

For anyone on the fence about purchasing BH&HII, then know that this is not an upgraded PE. This IS a new sim... period. OBD have done an outstanding job.

I was a bit skeptical at first when I saw the screenshots and videos thinking it was the same as PE, but it's not. Those screenshots and videos of BH&HII do not convey the whole picture, you really need to experience it to see the changes.

This happened to me at first, the keybind options weren't even there, as you noted. I then uninstalled using the toolbox tool, clicked the delete WOFF in registry button, deleted any other folders I could find that were OBD related, turned off my computer, sacrificed a new-in-the-box Core i5-10600K processor to the digital gods by fire, started back up and reinstalled and it worked! You could try some of those and see if they work, I think you might be on to something with that "legacy" install.

One more question though, there is a button that makes you look through the gunsight directly, I forgot, how it is called, can you guys please let me know?

Hi Dryjo, I think the view you are looking for is gunsight view. You can toggle between normal cockpit view and gunsight with the F6 key.
Hope this helps you further.
