Hand signals next! Hand signals!
Maybe this can be extended to the gunner/observers so they don’t look at us the entire way to the Front and back,
Wonderful stuff!

.

Fan-friggin- tastic! The head movements really bring those pilots to life. It's going to be harder to shoot at 'em now - maybe.

IT'S ALIVE! THE COCKPIT IS ALIVE!

There's now a shimmy in that shake! Toby best be careful, his prodigious chest combined with all that shaking is likely to cause him to lose all sorts of balance!

Another very cool leap forward in bringing the war experience to life. I'm with Stache. Credit card is ready to rock this.

That is awesome. From flying the original Red Baron, to RB3D, never would I have imagined this game could have progressed this far. You guys have worked miracles.
Buying this upgrade is a no brainer.
Unbelievable.

Rockers rocking and heads scanning the skies, Wow !

Re: WOFF Development Update 9 April 2020 - 04/10/20 04:06 AM

Wonderful developments OBD - so pleased to see the head-turning pilots that remind me of FE2 becoming a reality in WOFF - best of both worlds brought together. And that rumbling fuselage is something else - great for immersion, especially if linked up with things like turbulence.

Re: WOFF Development Update 9 April 2020 - 04/10/20 08:55 AM

Things are certainly on the up.
Apart from the wealth of 'hidden' tweaks we now have engine movement and animated figures.
Actually my first impression was how realistic the aircraft movements are in-flight - not flat and stable, but unstable movement as though the pilot was really having to keep it steady and in formation.

Bring it on,

Mike

Thanks Mike, yes there is a new buffeting / wind effect in this video, closer formations and better collision avoidance, (plus over 50 other items and features we have added more on those later).

Re: WOFF Development Update 9 April 2020 - 04/10/20 01:13 PM

This is all great news and definitely adds to the immersion factor.

Can't wait for the add on to come out.

Cheers

Wow! all great updates to AI, animation, wind, etc....

I'm hoping that you'll also consider to un-encrypt the "PilotDossier.txt" files so that we can mod them.

Re: WOFF Development Update 9 April 2020 - 04/10/20 09:26 PM

Oh amid the pandemic we just have marvelous news! And I shall be returning to the skies, having just got my new 500W surround sound speakers up and running. And my credit card is making my wallet jump like it's having cataleptics. Time to make sure my updates are current, and well, I built this box in December, 2011... I hope I can take advantage of all the marvelous new stuff, or I might just be looking at gutting this one and getting a little more current.

This looks and sounds amazing! I thought the buffeting looked more realistic. All of it does. I can't wait to get flying with it all!

Also extremely good news. I don't fly with labels, so I have no proof, but I've always felt I was running into other planes too soon.

Re: WOFF Development Update 9 April 2020 - 06/22/20 10:13 AM

Can we have Gas clouds back please?

Also love to see hand signals from Flight leader, or maybe wiggle of wings when he is going to attack enemy etc. I know that's asking alot, Gas back would be great though
Posted By: Polovski

Re: WOFF Development Update 9 April 2020 - 06/22/20 11:14 AM

Maybe we will see. If I remember correctly Gas clouds had a large fps hit so were removed I believe at some point. The rest all possible but maybe not for this one. Updating 3 million aircraft takes a while.

Re: WOFF Development Update 9 April 2020 - 06/23/20 12:33 PM

I’m also looking forwards to what magic OBD can conjure next

OT..I also loved the gas clouds in earlier versions I’m wondering if there’s a modder who’s willing look at this and then we’d have an option to turn off/on if it does affect FPS? Cheers all

You heard it here first. The next update will have 2,999,920 new aircraft. wink I think this could be more than the usual "two weeks" gentlemen.

Even if it did, someone would still #%&*$# about the price. LOL

$1 per plane x 2,999,920 planes = $2,999,920 jawdrop

wink that would be something, each individual aircraft ever used fully kitted out exactly as the pilot really had it, including all the changes, damage repairs, re-rigging states etc.

lol Pol you beat me too it ... i was going to comment along the same lines, and also ask out of curiosity - is there an 'order of magnitude' number out there as to how many individual aircraft were involved in the great war? would it have been in the thousands? or even more ... 'tens of thousands'? just curious

.

According to the “Illustrated Encyclopedia of Military Aircraft”, the totals for aircraft production during WWI are as follows.

France: 67,987
Great Britain: 58,144
Germany: 48,537
Italy: 20,000
USA: 15,000
Austria-Hungary: 5,431
Russia: 4,700

Of these, France lost 52,640, Great Britain lost 35,973, and Germany lost 27,637. Loss numbers for the other countries were not available in the quoted source.

Do I win, do I win? And if so, what? biggrin

France lost 77% of all their aircraft?! Mon Dieu!

Talk about paying the iron price.

Makes one think twice about starting a French career :-/

Re: WOFF Development Update 9 April 2020 - 06/24/20 02:52 AM

Indeed, start at a SPAD 7 or Nieup. 23/24 level, at a minimum. I'll have to try a French career eventually, will probably go with the SPAD 7 and ... slash and dash, if possible. No dogfighting except for the initial turn into/towards target.

Considering they designed the Spad A2 Flying Pulpit... I can understand why the numbers were so high....

Re: WOFF Development Update 9 April 2020 - 06/24/20 05:31 PM

I'd say that many of those losses would have been flying accidents, aircraft written off as well as combat losses... can't remember the figures now, but even in WWII there was a staggering amount of 109 losses to accidents etc.

Re: WOFF Development Update 9 April 2020 - 06/24/20 05:36 PM

Also maybe the French pilots would generally speaking be more aggressive, out to take revenge on an enemy that is blowing the crap out of their country and sitting well inside.

I would imagine that sometime in the not -too -distant future an AI routine would be able to do that with skin templates and access to the internet without too much trouble, at least to the degree that that information is known.

If the OBD team manage that update, I believe the local lunatic asylum has a specially padded room for them to recover in.

That will only take until the end june 2020 to complete (why the cries of denial - I think 5 days is long enough to update 2999920 aircraft, why do you need to eat, sleep and what is this family life you speak of, how can your spouse be more important than OBD and the fan base you have generated for WOFF and WOTR.

Seriously though, keep up the great work, like any perfectionist piece this will be well worth the wait.

The point is what means "lost" ?
Is this combat losses ?
Is this written off losses ?
Because about France, starting from late 1917, when production became "plentifull", the criteria for writing off a plane were very "relaxed".
Actually, a plane was written off whenever a "better" replacement was available.
Remember that depots were only few hours away from the front in average : If it takes one night to repair a plane, it takes 2 hours max to get a new one, so the choice was easy !

For instance, in late 1917, Sop107 pilots were told that all damaged Sopwith planes would be replaced by brand new nice Breguet 14. Most pll pilots knew how to safely break the landing gear upon landing by applying full rudder on touch down.
One week later, all pilots had their Breguet smile

Indeed, the same thing happened during operation Bodenplatte in 1945: The number of "destroyed" allied planes seemed very impressive at first, but on a closer look, a lot of them could have been repaired , but getting a new one was easier.
