Maps Question - 08/25/19 06:02 AM

I know Louvert has made marvelous maps of the Front to use in flight. I'm thinking about starting a new pilot and doing some training QCs in England (or maybe Germany) but would hate to have to use the in flight map and would like something I could print out or use on a second monitor. Has anyone made a Germay/England map like the Western Front Maps? Is there a good alternative to use that isn't the in game map so I won't get lost flying around Jolly Old England?

Lou's maps are intended for printing or viewed in a second monitor.
They're not loaded into WOFF.
OK for flights over the fronts but I'm not sure if there are similar maps specifically for England or Germany,

No, unfortunately I've not gotten time to map England or Germany. If it's any consolation it is on my long list of WOFF things to do. smile2

Lou, I've been following some of your and the others exploits in the new DID thread. What were y'all using for maps during your training in England? It would be nice to do a similar training regimen, or participate in one of the sqdns that start out in England or one of the HD sqdns, without having to use that blasted inflight map.

hootowl, I had simply gone online and grabbed a few old maps of areas in England and some GoogleEarth screenshots. Not the most accurate way to do it but it worked. Generally, I just got myself familiar with an AO and flew by landmarks and EyeBall 20-20.

Glad to know the sim is generally good enough that an old real world map can help from getting too lost.

Major roads and rail lines are fairly correct when comparing the WOFF landscape to the real world, as are the waterways around London and its suburbs. Also, while the lakes out in the rural climes are accurate, the generic rivers are not. But once you get yourself familiar with the area around your assigned field it is not difficult to navigate. I have always hated in-sim maps and rarely use them as they are such an immersion killer for me.

Yeah I'm also not much of a fan of them, too much information that is too accurate and takes the fun out of flying by your wits. I haven't flown WOFF in several years, but last I did I printed out your excellent front maps and flew by them, really made for an exhilarating experience. One of these days I'd like to try using your blank map and adding in my own marks for aerodrome locations and such, but at the moment that seems a little too time consuming even if more historically accurate especially for Early War.
