Frame Rates?

Frame Rates? - 08/23/19 08:16 PM

I see from some of the super screen shots here that guys are getting WAY higher FPS than I can get (19 to 22) tops). I am heavily modded, could that be an issue? I keep most setting 2 to 3. Any suggestions would be really appreciated. My specs. are:

Windows 8.1

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.40GHz

RAM 8.00 GB

64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor

GeForce GT 620 (Driver Version 381.65)

DirectX 11.0

Thanks,
Steve

The GT620 graphics card is (far and away) a huge limiting factor in that arrangement.

Especially with a fairly capable CPU like the i7-3770, your system doesn't sound too bad - but you are in desperate need of a better GPU - especially if you want to run games/sims and get any kind of decent performance.

Although it depends a lot on the rest of your system - the power supply (power to run a better GPU) and chassis (mechanical/physical constraints) - you can find something very decent for not a lot of $ and it would complement that 3770 much better. I have a couple similar systems here (3rd-gen i5/i7); one's fitted with a GTX970, one with a 1060, and they're both reasonably capable with most current games (maybe 40-60 FPS depending on the settings etc). If you're not objected to 'pre-owned' hardware, you could get something very decent for $50-100 I'm certain.

Hope this helps, and I welcome any questions.

Thank you kksnowbear, I did suspect that might be the issue, but was hoping it was not. I'll start saving for a better GPU.

Happy if it helps. You have a PM wink

There is a very simple test in WOFF / WOTR to see if you are CPU or GPU bound.

Take note of you FPS looking straight ahead when flying a couple of thousand feet up, then look straight up at a clear sky and note your FPS again.

If your FPS dramatically rise, then you are GPU bound, if they stay about the same, you are CPU bound.

The reason is if you are CPU bound, it does not matter much where you look because the CPU has to keep track of everything happening in the game, so looking up does not make a big difference.

On the other hand, if you are GPU bound, your FPS will dramatically rise, because the GPU is drawing a clear sky versus all the terrain objects that you see straight ahead it is easier on the GPU, so higher FPS.

try setting your vertical sync to "Fast" in the nvidia settings...made a world of diff for my rig

Many thanks for the help and suggestions fellows. I'm working on them now, but it does appear my GPU is substandard.

Honestly your system is all good, except the graphics card. It's really holding it back.
