With regards to WOFF UE I can confirm... - 02/18/19 11:01 PM

,,,that OBD is working on a new patch with numerous improvements to the sim. They have already mentioned AI attack behavior in regards to balloon sorties but the patch (which of course may change before release!) currently has a decent number of wide ranging improvements!

The balloon AI attacks feel more responsive and realistic to me and as for the rest (again, subject to change before release) there are tweaks / improvements to some sounds, graphics, game play and Workshop options. The war keeps getting better. Thank you again Pol and Winder. The war may be 100 years old but for WOFF UE there are still blue skies ahead.

If anyone hasn't bought WOFF UE yet, it's a steal at $29.99 for the download. There's no better time to get started!

Outstanding! But then outstanding has become the norm for OBD's commitment to this sim. Thank you, devs and testing team!!!

Wow. So the patch has been expanded and all I can say is that many different aspects of the sim are being improved. And they are still busy with more things they may possibly add to it. Best after the sale product support ever. WOFF UE continues to get even better.

It might be timely to reference the following once again:

A long-term study recently completed by the University of Research Nonessentials and Urbane Thought Sciences has at last uncovered the source of misunderstandings surrounding the OFF/WOFF use of the term, "two weeks". Due to the fact that most civilized industrial societies around the world use the Gregorian calendar, which is divided into 52 seven-day weeks, the practical assumption made by those outside of the OFF/WOFF development group is that two weeks equals fourteen days. But this assumption is utterly incorrect.

Intensive research into the matter has unearthed evidence showing that members of the OFF/WOFF development group, or "WOFFites" as they refer to themselves, use a calendar radically different from that noted above and one based entirely upon their own labor-to-rest time ratio reality. Given the standardized WOFFite work schedule of 272 days on followed by one day of relaxation, the WOFForian calendar week actually equates to 39 weeks on the Gregorian calendar. Herein lays the root of the misunderstanding. When a WOFFite indicates that something will be done in two weeks he is not in error but is simply making his statement based on the time frame in which he lives. For those outside WOFFite society however it appears the person making such a statement is a bold faced liar, or delusional, or trying to pull something. He is not. The WOFFite honestly means two weeks, but two "WOFForian" weeks which, unfortunately for the rest of us, equates to 546 days or 78 weeks on the Gregorian calendar.

For a complete transcript of the study, "Time Reference Disparities between WOFFite and Real World Societies", contact Dr. Benjamin Whaddajahoo, Professor of Thinkology, Room 42, Arcane Building, University of Research Nonessentials and Urbane Thought Sciences, Pleasantville, Minnesota.

Aaah shucks, I'm humbled. I'd like to thank my 3rd Grade teacher, Mrs. Stubbs, for showing me how powerful an impact a simple 12" wooden ruler can have. My parents of course, as I wouldn't have been possible without their help. And then there's Mr. Rutgers, who runs the local bar, and who showed me the importance of ... wait ... oh heck, they're playing me off. THANK YOU AMERICA!

Now, what to do with the internet.

Lou, you have stumbled onto something that I believe is the under lying methodology applied by most politicians, only they are applying the concept to truth and reality, hence the reason we feel we never get a truthful straight answer to any question asked of them. Hmmm, I must look further into the studies conducted by the University of Research Nonessentials and Urbane Thought Sciences. Do they have a web site??

I know it will be good stuff, as always Great to see that WOFF continues to get attention even with WOTR occupying what I assume is a sizable amount of the teams time.

Playing in Raine's "Deep Immersion DID" campaign has really reminded me just how great WOFF is. There really is not much I would change at this point, but if I DID have a magic wand and could make a few minor tweeks this is what comes to mind:

- Make AI go home immediately after dropping bombs in a bombing mission, if possible. They currently circle the target for about 5 minutes after the drop, letting flak use our flight for target practice. (or is this historical?)

- Tweek the observer selection algorithm so that the same observers don't keep flying every mission. The poor guy at the top of the observer roster is always picked to fly in the first AI plane, and so on. Perhaps they could be 'shuffled' in the roster, as the pilots are already.

- When we are injured, WOFF runs 'pseudo missions' (while we are away) to simulate the squadron being in action and not 'in hibernation'. (Very cool!!). Would it make sense to expanded this to run all the time, to simulate the other missions that my squadron would be engaged in?

- I would like to have replacement pilots be a bit less experienced. Currently replacement pilots often come in with quite a few hours and even some kills to their credit so losing an experienced pilot is not really a big deal as his replacement will be just as good.

- Perhaps tweek how the 'endloop' position on patrol frontlines missions is selected. Years ago I am pretty sure OFF would have the 'startloop' and 'endloop' located at frontline units, and the mission would therefore have you fly back and forth along the front. Currently it seems that the 'endloop' is at Waypoint 2, which is just an arbitrary point away from the front, so you end up flying a path towards and away from the front.

All can be done (except one) via modifying the campaign xml file either manually or by JJJ's mission editor.

Observer selection doesn't seem to have an option to edit like the pilot.

I've seen summary of missions when time is advanced.

That's already possible as engine failures can occur at any time.

We couild make engines less reliable so it happens more but I think people would get fed up with it too often wink
Posted By: lederhosen

Re: With regards to WOFF UE I can confirm... - 03/06/19 09:47 AM

perhaps a choice in settings would work.

reading books shows us that many engine problems did happen and flights could eventually run down to less than 50% before arriving to the lines.
Posted By: Fullofit

Re: With regards to WOFF UE I can confirm... - 03/06/19 10:18 AM

You are right Pol. Engine failures are already built in and I think the failure rate is fine. I’ve just never seen one where one couldn’t take off because of it. Could it be because failures occur only a certain time after the mission starts?
Posted By: Polovski

Re: With regards to WOFF UE I can confirm... - 03/06/19 10:33 AM

No they can occur from startup. I have seen some on the start up before.
We don't put any 'broken engine flag' BEFORE you take off though (i.e. the mechanic left a spanner in there) - it only checks engines once the sim is running.

BTW some people hardly ever see failures, some see lots just the way random goes sometimes.
Posted By: Fullofit

Re: With regards to WOFF UE I can confirm... - 03/06/19 11:41 AM

Thank Pol, I'll make sure to check for that spanner next time. Thanks!

I don't get how AAA developers charge $80+ for reskinning the same garbage clicky pointy faster than other idiot clicky pointy's you game but OBD lets this gem go for a song.

A_P, I think just before OBD decided how much to charge for the sim fantastic that is WOFF they fell down and hit their collective heads, really hard. But hey, we all benefit from the absolute best bargain out there.

Here's to lacking sound financial judgement. cheers

Re: With regards to WOFF UE I can confirm... - 03/07/19 09:27 PM

I see the same thing in the retro gaming industry. You get independent game designers writing games for ancient systems like Intellivision, Atari2600, Coleco... etc... and charging upwards of 70USD and higher for a complete in box item. I mean, I understand the cost involved and all that, but wtf...

Something the size of WOFFUE is WORTH the $70 bucks you'd pay. Not something bought that will go on a shelf, only to have someone toss it in the trash after your pushing up daisys.

But again... one man's trash, is another's treasure... and all that.

77_Scout, I sent you a PM about this, but we have made some changes to bombing in the next UE version. However I just wanted to check which bomber you see doing this the mostly (the ones particularly noticable)?
Posted By: Fullofit

Re: With regards to WOFF UE I can confirm... - 03/08/19 11:24 AM

Pol, I think he means that the rally point is over the target. The flight will circle the target so that everyone can rejoin formation. Applies to all bombers, all scouts. This also occurs on balloon busting missions. Not the best place for a rally point with the Flack having a field day.
