Saturday Surpirse! The new Alb D.III OAW line.

Saturday Surpirse! The new Alb D.III OAW line. - 02/11/17 07:44 PM

As I promised so long ago, I've been steadily plodding through the seemingly endless list of new skins and remaking all the long overdue skins from 10+ years ago.

So barring any short-falls in time, I hope to have this lot completed this Spring...

Here is s small taste. Now, many of these are ficticious or based on the Alb D.Va/Fokker OAW skins that some of these pilots fly... or really, just me having some fun... so keep that in mind. I tried my best to add in the well needed color to the southern area of WOFFUE that so many pilots spoke of.

I don't expect every bolt to be in place, or if you are a dire 'has to be historic to be real' kind of player, you might find yourself at odds on what I do... but for the sake of sprinkling a little life and filling the Southerns skies with something to see other than default skins... I bend the rules.

Jasta 44s Max Raspe

Jasta 50 Wilhelm Wittenfeld

Jasta 57 Hans Viebig

Jasta 59 Otto Hohne

Jasta 66 Erich Sonneck

Jasta 71 Otto Ruttgers

Jasta 77b Walter Ewers

I have no time scale for completion, nor a plan for distribution yet. This pack will contain a ton of skins, possibly 200+ when it's completed.

All the best,

OvS

James;

Very nice, very nice indeed Sir! I'm surprised you have the time for this. I thought for sure you would be working on the new WWII project.

Best Regards Sir

Those are neat! The French rooster on a German bird? The pilot's mother must've been French! I'd like to fly a pink Fokker Drl! That experience would kinda be like the Johnny Cash song 'A Boy Named Sue' theme... you'd have to get 'tough' in a hurry!

Nice, nice, nice...and nice.

Just one thing I'd ask as a an Entente Flyer. Think you can remove the guns from these guys, or at least the ammo? Maybe leave a few nuts and bolts loose, give the pilots a short left leg or something?

Any help would be appreciated even more so then I do the amazing artwork. pilot

Probably related to the name "Hohne" of the pilot, with" Hahn "meaning, rooster cockerel . The same probably withe the next skin, Sonneck and Sonne.

Wonderful skins !!

Good to see you back making a visit Olham!
I must tell you that Roucourt has finally been finished and released as a mod. Thanks for all the data and assistance you provided me with.

Best Regards

Wow - really? You worked it out, and it works?
Wonderful, Robert - another gem added, that will definitely bring me back to flying WOFF.
Thank you for your admirable endurance!

What "became" of me?
What did you fear I might have become? A Clochard, sleeping under bridges? Breakfast bacon? biggrin
No, I'm alive and well, don't worry!
I am recently only just addicted to sailing in the Carribean.
And I'm not one who can immerse into two games/sims at the same time - never worked for me.

But I KNOW, I will come back to WOFF one (soon?) day - it is just too great a world!
Thanks for your greetings, gents!

Sorry for a little offtopic, but what is the actual difference between Alb.D.III and Alb.D.III OAW - in reality and in WoFF?

If my memory serves me well, OAW-made Albatros have a different roundel from "early" Johannistal models.

By the way, it is an amazing work, OvStachel, thanks!

The Albatros D.III was built in Johannisthal, Berlin; the version D.III (OAW) was built in Schneidemühl
(OAW stands for "Ostdeutsche Albatros-Werke" = East-German Albatros Factory).

The two versions show minor build differences, different colours for the wing tapes on printed Lozenge camouflage,
and a different placing for the wing and fuselage German crosses.

There was, by the way, a third build: the Albatros D.III (OeFFAG), which was the Austrian version.
This version had a stronger, Austrian Daimler engine, and a much more stable two-spar sesquiplane wing.
It was probably the best Albatros D.III version. It was only used by Austria-Hungary, afaik.

For more detail, maybe our Alb-specialist Jim (James F. Miller) will contribute something here?
Or Elephant; or maybe OvS himself?

The Poles also used it against the Communists.

The major and most notable difference between the two are in the forward engine area, and the tail. The OAW built D.III used several longer wooden 'planks' to form the engine bay, starting at the spinner base and ending near the back of the MG mount. It also has square foot-holes for accessing the engine. The rudder is rounded like the D.Va.

Markings are similar, however... the OAW carries only Mauve/Green or Green/Mauve camo, or all lozenge with blue tape. The national insignias are also different on the wings and fuselage. The OAW has bolder, more even looking Maltese grosses, whereas, the Johann built has blockly looking and thinner borders on many of the Jastas. The Johann camo is only tricolor, and no lozenge at all.

Here is a pic from Jim's book which I used extensively to try and get things as close to correct as possible.

I'm 3/4 through the Jastas using the OAW, so I hope to have this pack ready for a Spring release.. .provided I can stay on it. Unfortunately, my wife refuses to sell our 03 Odyssey which now needs a front end rebuild, timing belt and a ton of other crap... back to the tools... I never win. LOL!.

James,

Once again man, these look astonishingly good! I've been enjoying the heck out of your work in WOFF UE and I think these will make a fine addition to the game.

Can't believe you're still at it all these years later, and that I'm still here posting about it! Awesome stuff!

Cheers!

These look very nice and even if all of them are not 100% historical, nobody forces people to use them, so it's all good.

Good work! Keep it up! smile

The D-III had 'flatter' fuselage sides. Those skins look great!
