Question for Campaign

Question for Campaign - 01/18/17 09:40 PM

Hello gents, i was wondering something. I am flying with the RNAS-8 and wanted to start my campaign in a Newport "Bebe" but got stuck with a Strutter 1/2 instead. I understand this has to do with my rank (chose to earn my way up the ranks), but there are only 2 other Strutter pilots in the unit and the rest are Bebe's or Pups, so this leaves with flying missions with only 1 other pilot all the time (another Strutter pilot). My question is, will i be offered to fly a single seater during my campaign with RNAS-8, do i need to get promoted? i have flown 9 missions with 5 confirmed kills (3 Balloons, 2 Fighters).

Yep, sorry to say it but you will have to get promoted to get the better planes. Sometimes the unit will upgrade to a better plane and you'll get switched when that happens. It stinks being the new guy, but you know what they say, "Rank hath it's privileges." biggrin

Afraid that you are going to have to rank up BO.

Alsom, if there are a lot of Historical Aces (HA) in the squadron, they seem to get the planes first. There are options to use only the top HAs which I've heard helps.

Not sure what happens if you change this or the ranking difficulty mid career, though.

Thanks for the replies, i was hoping it had to do with promotions. It was just a thought that came up while on mission and wasn't sure if I'd be stuck in the Strutter for the rest of my existence, or i could actually be given a better aircraft as i progress (if i survive). This is good news, thanks.

Bad0pel, usually the squadron will eventually upgrade to 100% of the new type even if you don't get promoted. I have a pilot stuck with one of only two Np16s and the rest are on Np17s. Either time or promotion will eventually get me on a better aircraft.

You can also edit the mission file BEFORE you spawn on the field to upgrade your aircraft. For example, when there are better planes in reserve, or you want a specific plane to fly a mission, or you want to use a Camel in 1915 and clear the skies of anything that moves...

Select mission editor in workshop and when the popup appears, alt-tab out of WOFF.
Then open "\OBDSoftware\WOFF\OBDWW1 Over Flanders Fields\missions\historical\OFF_Camp_Mission.xml" with a text editor.
Find the line which contains IsPlayer="y"
Edit the aircraft in that line to ANY WOFF aircraft. Be careful to use the same syntax as in the aircraft folder (SQD is player aircraft).
<Unit ID="9570" Type="Sopwith_Strutter_Sqd" IsPlayer="y" Payload="0" Skill="1" AmmoPct="100" FuelPct="100"/>

change to...

<Unit ID="9570" Type="Nieuport_N11_Sqd" IsPlayer="y" Payload="0" Skill="1" AmmoPct="100" FuelPct="100"/>

Save and close. Click "ok" on popup. You're done.

Or you can do it easily in Mission Editor - Open mission file in Editor, click Edit Pilots button, switch to Player pilot and overwrite aircraft type as you wish. Than click Save and fly.

Or you can simply enlist with a high rank....

Or you can just suck it up and fly the crappy plane until you get promoted. biggrin

That's what I'm thinking. I haven't lastest longer than 2 weeks in a campaign so i didn't know how all that works. I dumbbed it down abit so that i'm not always crashing, but having a blast revisiting this game thus far. Got my first medal already!

You basically choose to go full real and work up the rank, or start higher to get the cream/cheese whatever earlier, you can't have it both ways no wink
