CURRENT PROJECT: Placement of factories in WOFF UE - 11/19/16 05:00 PM

.

Greetings All,

Glad to see things are staying lively around camp. Work has kept me travelling, as usual, and when I have been home these last couple of weeks I've been puttering away at another WOFF project. It started a while back when I mentioned to Winding Man that it would help increase immersion if we could have bombed out factories in No Man's Land rather than the pristine facilities we've always seen there. He promptly provided us with just such bombed out factories at which point I offered my time to go through and adjust placement of not only these factories but all the factories in the WOFF landscape. I painted up a generic texture for the intact factories so that I could more easily place the facilities in the landscape and now am about midway through that placement process, which requires that I fly to each facility and set its elevation as well as tweak its coordinates and orientation.

Here are a few screenshots of how the factories will now appear in the WOFF UE landscape:

Once I have everything sorted out with this Winding Man plans on including it in an upcoming WOFF update. And, when it is done I can then return to my Farnborough and CFS project.

Cheers!

Lou

kneeldown

Lou, you're the best. Immersion King!
May I suggest black smoke from the chimney, or dark grey and more of it. If possible can these become targets? I seem to bomb airfields and railyards only. If those are targets already then my bad. I'm probably in the "factories off limits" squadron. And thank you for your dedication. salute

Actually WM, you already have smoke at the factories however it is the same wispy white as the house smoke. It would be nice if the factory smoke was darker and denser looking.

Yes I was thinking about the damaged factories... smouldering ruins smoke drifting...

But yes will make new effect and yep I can make the factory smoke darker - please remind me when you send your update...

Sorry, but the Pope was elected in 1914 and served well past the wars end. So...no smoke for you. That just wouldn't be historically accurate. biggrin

How about this. Does this meet the requirement? More can be done if necessary to make the smoke meet the need.

Here is a demo of medium dark factory stack smoke. This might be more appropriate than the darker one.

Thanks again folks for the kudos, they are much appreciated and such encouragement keeps me going on these time and labour intensive projects.

Robert, I like the second example better, more realistic IMHO. One thing though if it's possible, the smoke needs to linger in the air longer and rise up higher as it does so.

I like the second one better also, and concur with Lou's observation.

Re: CURRENT PROJECT: Placement of factories in WOFF UE - 11/21/16 01:29 AM

ok;

here is the best I can come up with. Smoke stream is longer but affected by inherent wind in the sim so will not rise vertically.

Re: CURRENT PROJECT: Placement of factories in WOFF UE - 11/21/16 01:32 AM

.

That is considerably better Robert. In fact, now I'd say the smoke needs to be a bit lighter just because there is more of it visible at any given time.

:D, Feng Shui (invisible forces that bind all things together). Very probably true, since there are so many forces at play in the sim and I have control of so few of them!

Thanks for the cudo BuckeyeBob

Madness...madness!

Oooh dear, it appears I may have stumbled (hic), into the secret location of the Barmy Officer’s initiation ceremony!

I swear, I swear I did not see the secret handshake--well not all of it, anyway (not sure if the dropping of the trousers while jumping with one leg on top of a whiskey barrel and shouting BWOC! BWOC! BWOC! and being pelted with elderberries is a part of the ritual or not). I promise not to tell, and I will most likely not remember anything of this tomorrow, as various members of this loosely formed (and quite loose--or is that tight--I can never get that straight) organization keep buying me these oddly greenish hued drinks!

Madness...madness, I say (hic)!

BuckeyeBob, it is the Barmy OFFers Club and judging from your description of the goings on you have likely stumbled into an Elk's Club meeting. Should you choose to apply for membership in our less-than-illustrious group and are accepted you will experience first-hand our sacred rights and rituals, I guarantee it. biggrin
