so whats happening - 07/19/15 10:16 AM

Star citizen has been deleted from my drives for ages now.

So what's happening here, any game developments, is there any cohesive gameplay yet, or is it just the same arena garbage?

Game sucks. Mouse + Keyboard is tablet easy mode. Hell, you don't even need to use the keyboard! Just use a mouse and win! One hand, one button, win.

Don't bother. The game is trash. But they said they'll fix it. But they also said they don't plan on removing gimbal aim from mouse... Which... is not good.

Re: so whats happening - 07/20/15 04:20 PM

It is still only the hangar module and AC 1.x mode. If you are playing competitively vs then I agree with mr. Blastman. The leaderboards are filled with people monoboating the most expensive fighter using mouse and gimbals. If you just want to fight AI or coop in vandul swarm mode then it is a LOT of fun. Especially with a HOTAS setup and trackir. It feels just like I would expect a modern space game to feel.

the FPS mode is delayed until further notice. They did just add two more ships to fly in AC1.x and the first multicrew (official, unofficially you can multicrew anything with a gunner right now) will be released next month with a much larger map. That could change.

But, it is still not a content rich environment. So if you are looking for a more complete game then you will probably have to wait a while longer (probably until end of year to first half of next year for the SP squadron 42 campaign.

You basically donated and got game content as a thank you. Not sure why people expected anything playable anytime soon with their odd business model.

Re: so whats happening - 08/03/15 06:32 PM

You can try to sell your account but that is about it. Peally is correct, you donated money to fund a project. You didnt buy a game. As such I dont think you can get a refund.

As far as what is upcoming.

Gamescon 2015 is this weekend. They are going to demo the AC2.0 / multicrew ships. So they should have a playable version of the retaliator and maybe the constellation. I dont know if they plan to release it to the public after gamescon or if it is just a demo like the original AC demo was last year.

In the near to medium future we should see

AC2.0 (1.2.0)
Multicrew
Star Marine
Social Module.

These should all hit within the next few months from what I am reading.

p.s. By the way Jimk, what do you have in game?

Re: so whats happening - 08/03/15 06:58 PM

It would be nice if they would correct the controller mode imbalance problem. Somebody high up seems to be clinging tenaciously to Interactive Mode mouse control, when it really should go away. The other mouse modes are roughly on a par with the available joystick and gamepad modes, but IM is only available to the mouse users, and it is significantly advantageous. They should just rip the band-aid off and be done with it. Instead, they are bending themselves into pretzels trying to achieve some perception of balance via other means. CIG may pull that (balance via other means) off, but it seems improbable.

It's hard to watch, and a lot of people who would otherwise be testing things, are currently sitting out and waiting for that problem to get resolved.

You can only blame yourself for being gullible to promises made by a snake oil salesman.

I recall there was a kickstarter discussion thread not long ago where some of the detractors here had pretty strong opinions about how misguided some of us are for being leery about people like Chris Roberts.

Well there you go.

There is still a long ways to go, so much remains to be seen. CIG has been very forthcoming with info on a lot of aspects. The controller mode imbalance issue actually stands out, in part because of how they have been handling it so poorly. Since CIG is expected to announce an SC branded HOTAS soon (probably at Gamescon this coming weekend), it would behoove them to resolve the imbalance issue sooner, rather than later. Time will tell.

Re: so whats happening - 08/04/15 01:10 PM

Most triple A video games take 3-5 years before they are announced then another 1/2-1 year to polish it. Starcitizen has been in development for 2 years. So in the next 6-8 months is when we should really start to see faster development and more information (not that there isnt already a lot of info out there.)

It got released today. They went with Saitek/Madcatz which means it will probably just be a rebraded x45.

Re: so whats happening - 08/04/15 11:56 PM

Ayup, a lot of sad Pandas upon hearing that CIG went with Saitek/Mad Catz. The Saitek x45 hasn't been made in a loooong time, so I doubt that will be the basis of whatever they roll out. I'm thinking more X-55 or X52pro based. Maybe a set of rudder pedals rolled into a package deal.

There was mention of a 'line of products' in something I read. That could include a mouse and/or a control yoke to go along with whatever HOTAS or stick offering(s).

Have close to $700 involved. Guess I failed the Snake oil sales school.

Speaking of Chris Roberts, you guys, his pinnacle of movie adaptations of video games, Wing Commander, is on Netflix now!!

Re: so whats happening - 08/11/15 01:19 PM

I watched Wing Commander the other day and while it wasnt a great movie it actually held up pretty well. I was expecting it to be a lot worse than it was.

Give me a ping, Visali. One ping only.

Re: so whats happening - 08/11/15 02:43 PM

Yeah, I watched it, ironically enough, last night while I'm on an exploration run in Elite: Dangerous. I have to say, I'd forgotten how well Saffron Burrows played the character of Angel Devereaux.

Social module is released. You can now walk around and look at ArcCopr.

robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/14915-Vanguards-And-Then-There-Were-Three
There is also the Vanguard Variants which came out friday. Looks like its only 25-45 for upgrade price and then the 250+ is if you want to buy a full ship with variants. They have a new confusing system in place which is not worth explaining since no one here is probably going to be buying them.

robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/14926-Design-Notes-Electronic-Warfare
They also have a post about how the Electronic Warfare stuff will work in game. Some interesting stuff in there.

robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/14925-Star-Marine-Status-Update
and another StarMarine Update explaining how they are starting to merge all the dev branches for release though they dont give a time frame and from what they do say it looks like it's at least another month or two away.

The monthly Monthly Studio Update from Foundry 42 UK mentions that they are getting Arena Commander 2.0 ready for CitizenCon in October

Quote:
The environment team has been busy with the map for the Arena Commander 2.0 release for CitizenCon. We have three main stations with interiors whiteboxed out now, along with one planet, three moons, three smaller satellites and a set of small asteroids.

I have my ticket and plane booked for the Manchester CitizenCon and hyped about seeing AC2.0

I bought the 3 Battlefield Upgrade Kits for this. I hope they work with the concept Vanguard I bought with LTI, as I really don't want three separate Vanguards but the ability to convert when needed, to the role needed is more my style.

Master, is that how you read CIG's rely, that the BUKs are for the initial concept with LTI?
Posted By: Master

Re: so whats happening - 09/07/15 04:01 PM

No the BUKs are for any of the 3 ships. Each of the 3 ships is equal to one of the BKUs so if you own one of the ships you only need the two other BKUs because you can always return your ship to factory. Also they dont explicitly say they come with LTI but they do according to the dev's. But even if you buy the hellbringer you can use a warden BKU to turn it into a warden and then you can reset it to factory to bring it back to a hellbringer. (Or you can only use parts from the kit you want and keep parts from the original ship) The kits are just sets of LTI pieces you can use to upgrade your ship including the different hull pieces that change the frame.

They did a QA if you havent read them already.

Thanks for verifying what I thought and hoped I had read correctly. I did overbuy the one additional Warden BUK, but will just melt it when something catch's my eye in the future. I am looking forward to 2.0 and some of the additions of an exploratory system.

Re: so whats happening - 09/08/15 02:17 PM

I really wanted to buy one of those vanguards but it seems every new ship is better and more expensive than the last. I can see how people get caught up in just buying and buying and buying. They keep saying LTI is mostly worthless because insurance in game will be affordable. Well... Im going to take their word on this one and not buy smile

We've got enough SimHQ members that we've covered pretty much everything available(minus Idris/Javelin), so you'll probably be able to borrow someone's. I've got the Warden with a Sentinel BUK that you're welcome to borrow, providing that I'm not using it.

Re: so whats happening - 09/09/15 10:45 AM

Just out of interest,I'm looking to build a new system soon and the R9 390 Radeon graphics card comes with Star Citizen beta access. What exactly would I get?
Posted By: K6_Scorpion

Re: so whats happening - 09/10/15 02:20 AM

If it's the same as the last promotion AMD did (AMD Never Settle Space Edition), it would be:

  • Mustang Omega: AMD Edition
  • 1,000 UEC
  • 2 month insurance
  • Digital Star Citizen Manual
  • Star Citizen Digital Download
  • Squadron 42 Digital Download
  • Beta Access
  • SelfLand Hangar
  • Arena Commander Pass
