Single-Player campaigns

Single-Player campaigns - 03/15/21 05:20 PM

I'm currently playing two right now. I'm playing the Crimea/Kuban 1943 campaign as a German HS-129 pilot and I'm also playing the same campaign as a Soviet IL-2 pilot. It's been interesting seeing the ground and air war develop from both perspectives.

Which campaigns is everyone else playing right now?

Perty quiet here these days. I guess everyone has left town for Reddit?

Well I got kicked out for 2 weeks (and rightfully so) and found that I can live without so much forum drama in my life. This forum can be a huge time suck that is better spent actually DOING THINGS. Now I just pop in to lurk for a few minutes a couple of times a week.

Reddit and the Steam forums both have a ton of activity when it comes to flight sim discussion. It’s not just SimHQ but all traditional message boards are dying out.

I started playing this again during the sale and find they have improved immensely since a couple of years ago. I have also come to the conclusion the LA-3 and LA-5 are horribly outmatched by even the earlier war FW-190 A3.

I love the P-38, btw. smile

The sim has now had multiple major updates and I absolutely love it. As for the Soviet fighters, most of them are very maneuverable but the firepower is lacking. It's not until you get to the late war fighters 1944/1945 that you start getting some fighters with a decent amount of ammo and firepower that approaches that of the German planes.

My only issue is finding the planes buried in the terrain. They're hard to see! Much harder than 1946 or Falcon 4.0. Right now I have it set to normal difficulty with icons on to identify friend/foe. My eyesight isn't as good as it was a decade ago, and if I'm lucky enough to see a dot I can't make it friend/foe. Maybe because I'm playing in 1080p and my resolution is too low?

Yak3 (1944) has the same firepower as Lagg3 (1941).
La7 (1944) has the same firepower as La5 (1942)
Yak9T (1943) has a bigger gun, but can be compared to P-39 (1942)

I think it's more accurate to say that soviets increased their low altitude ability gradually and got the upper hand from 1944 onward, than say it's armament related.
