EVE Online, again.

EVE Online, again. - 10/24/13 09:27 PM

This game has been on my to-play list for years and years now. I played for 3 months a few years ago but never really got into it; I didn't know what I was doing so I never appreciated anything very much. Now I see Steam offering an EVE sub with a 3-month sub at 50% off, so 3 months at £13.99 or £4.60/month. Annoyingly, a 6-month or 12-month sub does not get the 50% discount.

Anyone here playing EVE constantly at this point? I know some people take a break from this game every now and again, but I am hoping to join a group that is active. I'd rather not join EVE Uni this time around as I was just waiting for my "spot" the last time.

Or should I just forget about this game? mycomputer

I've gone back a few times, played for a month or two and given up. Unless you get deep into it with a group, it seems very repetitive.
X Rebirth is coming out in a couple of weeks, that should be like a SP EVE.

Not really keen on single-ship only though. I will be getting X Rebirth regardless, as I've enjoyed X3TC a lot.

Plus obviously the combat system (pilot skill vs. player skill) is different.

Where Eve shines is in the PVP arena. You need to hook up with a sov holding alliance and experience the wars, roaming gangs, etc that 0.0 space has to offer. That was always the most fun for me. I did get into industry toward the end of my Eve career, but the PVP in a big alliance was a blast.

I'm not so sure I'm cut out for PvP, plus doesn't that need a character with a lot of skills + clones?

So nobody else here is currently playing EVE? 50% off sale ends tomorrow.

I'm "playing" EVE. Unfortunately, that means assigning my toon homework and sitting in a dock nearly 24/7 because of our kids... It really is the ultimate casual game. heh.

What does that mean? Just learning a skill?

I'd really love to pick this game up, but I am hesitant to do so without joining a group.... but with so many out there... frown

Yeah. Pretty much just sitting around and learning skills while doing the odd mission every once in a while.

I'm in Nixer's corp, but we're not exactly active players. I'll see him online maybe once every two weeks or so. And I'll be online for a few minutes every week.

If I remember correctly, Frugalsworld ran a corporation of Flight Sim enthusiasts...though they may be gone by now.

You could always go with the largest corporations in 0.0 space. Or you could join EVE University (http://www.eveuniversity.org/) who are VERY newbie friendly if you want to learn the game. I'd join them, but just don't have the time to dedicate to it. *shrug*

Yeah, I know of EVE Uni, but the last time I played, I ended up in a queue and only got in as my sub was almost finished, so I didn't really get much out of it. That's why I'm looking for a different group now, I want to be up-and-playing from the start.

Jeevz spoke highly of Brave Newbies in EVE chat last night. Nix and I are thinking of committing a couple of alts to PvP corps for fun...and for me to learn the ropes. I've a got a perfect loss record in PvP. hahaha

It's a big part of the learning process...getting killed...and learning to GTFO with your "valuable" head.

New expansion tomorrow.

Jeev's is out there somewhere mercilessly murdering. ar15

Finally bored with the grind to make isk, time for me to hone my combat skills.

Brave Newbies and Red vs Blue are both corps you can get your pvp on with low skill points and in cheap ships. A friend of mine just signed up and I directed him to RvB to learn the ropes while he trains up skills. Brave Newbies operates in low security space, they are brave after all and RvB is two corps in permanent war in high sec space.

Eve is definitely not a single player game, for most people anyway but you are not required to train skills for 3 months before you can accomplish anything. There are players out there that earn the 600 million ISK needed to play for free during the 21 day trial.
