You can engage the thrust reverser while airborne but it doesn't activate until you touch down, then you throttle up and stop on a dime!

Very cool.

The Viggen is quite fun. Nothing like skimming the surface (either land or sea) at mach 2 to strike your target.
The weapon and navigation systems are a bit weird and unlike any of the other aircraft in the game though. So, it does take some getting used to.

Wow, had no idea it was that fast down low. I'll have to try it!

I double checked it, I think the speed was wrong for a while in that AC and it's more correct now. It'll still easily get up to and exceed mach at tree top level but you're looking at a top speed of about 1.7.

There's absolutely NO way that the Viggen or any other manned fighter aircraft for that matter is able to reach Mach 1.7 at low 'tree top' altitude (or sea level) let alone Mach 2!

Below someone did a study and concluded that the Viggen's top speed at sea level altitude was Mach 1.1 and this in an almost clean configuration (with only 4 AAM's):

And that is pretty close to what it does in DCS now, Mach 1.1-1.2 at low level clean.

The Viggen is amazing. Capable of carrier landings, and nothing like smacking an SA-10 by flying so low you duck under power lines before dropping your entire load in one pass.
I once took a Viggen up to 10,000ft, and it felt very wrong.

The thrust reverser could be pre-selected in the air to engage when the nose-wheel strut was compressed after touchdown via a pneumatic trigger.

Yep, I tried that. You have to be real careful with that thing, it gets real squirrelly after touchdown with full reverse thrust.

I find thrust reverser leads to really nice post-touchdown behaviour, but touching the brakes makes me skid all over the place.
My standard process is pre-engage the thrust reverser; touch down; throttle to max when nosewheel is down; brake slowly when speed drops low enough.
