It's like being back in Jane's F/A-18

It's like being back in Jane's F/A-18 - 11/09/18 04:17 PM

I've eyed DCS for years, but the complete lack of proper multi-role aircraft turned me off so much, plus the plethora of Russian airplanes is not my thing.

I bought F/A-18 and Persian Gulf during the sale...and I'm back home in the Hornet (stopped playing Jane's F/A-18 in 2010 I believe). I recognize so much in the cockpit, I feel right at home. Plus the Gulf is beautiful, recognizing so many places I bombed in my F-15E back in the day. Haven't played sims since 2010 actually...and I like it. Now I just need a proper HOTAS instead of a ten year old X-45 which is at the end of its life.

Now if the Hornet had a wider array of air to ground weapons I’d be in heaven, and just imagine the array of scenarios that can be built when it’s more potent…but I’m still having fun.

I’m anticipating the F-14 like you cannot believe it.

Now the F-15E would be amazing to have in the game...too bad it's Razbam which develops it.

I also have concerns about the F-15E in Razbam hands. Their Harrier is still broken - you can't still slew DMT with your analog controller properly! They just seem to not finish their modules.

But yeah, Hornet looks sweet, and since it's Belsimtek/DCS we can expect great quality from it. Too bad there's still no immersive single player gameplay in DCS for the Hornet.

This is what bothers me the most, so beautiful world and airplanes and their systems, but nothing to pull you in like in the old times with Microprose and Jane's titles...

Exactly, they move on to the next module before completing the previous one. And you still can't refuel from the KC-135...wow!

DCS is flawed but I'm enjoying it. The Hornet can be great in x number of years, but I knew what I bought.

Just got banned from dcs forums , not sure what i say wrong this time. They are like teens, easily got hurt biggrin

But what comes to new modules before old are fixed or ready .. well these planes are light years more complex and realistic than lets say in old sim’s (F-18korea etc) so i can live with it. They need money anyway to Keep things rolling

Least until module is made by veao.

Heatblur viggen is great, gets fixes quite fast. Real joy to fly if you like cold war deltas.

Mirage is quite nice now too, and its getting more updates.

Hornet is fun, but im love with mig-29 now :P

But when tomcat comes its good by to anyohter module least for until summer :P

Let's be honest here...the Viggen and Mirage should be quite polished now although I do have sympathy for 3rd parties because of the way ED make it up as they go along and break functionality by incorporating new features that were never in the road map.

At the same time, ED probably love the majority of their customers...because they can release early access platforms and jump onto the next knowing that most of their blinkered customer base will jump onto it and then they never need to finish the previous modules anyway hence why so much content never leaves early access/beta.

As for the original statement......"It's like being back in Janes's F/A-18", then yes it probably is.....as long as we all forget that Janes F/A-18 was polished, very well featured, completely immersive, has awesome carrier ops, is fully documented and incorporated a whole heap of combat so is actually very different from any DCS module.

the flight sims I miss the most are DiD EF-2000 v1 & v2 and Total Air War - I really liked F/A-18E and spent almost a year on it, but the DID series were the most fun.
