Bug Fixes and Adjustments:

DCS World
Network code improved for greater stability.

Note: Although many improvements and optimizations have been made, we still highly recommend 16 player limit when hosting complex missions. Depending on the exact composition of the mission, the bandwidth and number of players that a host may accommodate will vary. As always though, clients must be aware of their ping times (often influenced by connection distance to host) as this can cause warping and other connection issues.

Fixed multiplayer data link for Russian aircraft.
Fixed Force Feedback joystick trim problems.
Tuned aircraft gun smoke.
Fixed Set Path to Column formation.
Fixed Georgian soldier animation.
Fixed long range radar break-lock for Russian aircraft.
AIM-120 and R-77 maximum load factor increased to 40g.
R-77 data adjust. Thrust, lift and drag.
AIM-120 data adjusted. Lift and drag.
AIM-9M maximum load factor increased to 35g.
AIM-9M thrust changed 12000 N.
Adjusted AIM-9P drag.
AIM-7M thrust and drag adjustments were made.
Increased load factor to R-27 family to 24g.
Increased R-27ER initial delay to 1.5 sec.
AIM-54 data adjustment. Thrust, drag, lift, initial delay of guidance.
R-33 data adjusted. Thrust, drag and lift, initial delay of guidance.
R-60 data adjusted.
R-73 data adjusted.
Multi-channel missile guidance is fixed.
Decreased the damage value of modern AA missiles warheads from directional to enhanced. Earlier AIM-120 and R-77 had a warheads with large multiplier factor termed "directional". These missiles were very lethal, more so than even an S-300. It was not realistic and we decided replace "directional" warhead with the less power "enhanced" warhead.
Number of simultaneously guided AIM-120s is 4 for F-15, F-16 and F-18.
Number of simultaneously guided AIM-54 is 4 for F-14.
Fixed AI planes unable to engage SA-8 with Anti-Radiation Missiles.
Fixed situation where AI sometimes launch AGM-65 Mavericks from too far away; AGM-65 would self-destructs before reaching target.
Added S-8TsM and S-8OFP2 rockets to inventory of MiG-29A/G/S and Su-33.
Renamed S-8KOM to S-8TsM in the one AFAC Su-25 payloads.
The F-15C and Su-27 will now use their RWR systems when the Mission Editor RADAR USING option is not applied.
Adjustments to the air combat maneuvering of all aircraft.
"Transmit Message" command parameters indication is now in the action list
Fixed infantry not moving when route is changed.
Fixed client crash in MP.
Fixed pilot models with K36 ejection seat.
Debris of a killed soldier has been removed.
Adjusted AWACS action time.
Fixed switch waypoint triggered action.
Changed setting of mission start time (day, month).
Default damage parameters tuned for old aircraft models.
Fixed Mission Editor error when trying to change aircraft country.

Incoming missiles warning messages has been corrected.
Helicopters will better maneuver against anti AAA when in the threat area.
Fixed scrollbar in debriefing.
Any hidden aircraft, helicopter, static object, and ships no longer break Fog of War.
Helicopters no longer sink when they takeoff from aircraft carrier.
Fixed some missions freezing every five seconds.
Fixed multiple problems in JTAC code.
Resource Manager message grammar adjusted.
Payload localization is now displayed.
A destroyed / burning aircraft burning can no longer auto lock other aircraft.
Fixed the AI formations after switching waypoints.
Wingmen will try to maintain absolute position in formation, they will maintain altitude when the leader turns.
HAWK SAM would not attack Su-25T if kh-25MPU attacks HAWK.
Fixed view problems for unarmed vehicles, infantry and fortifications.
Fixed crash changing wallpapers in Options dialog.

To trigger Update, Use Repair option first, then Updater.

Edit: 1.2.3 isnt on the Updater server yet.

I can't stress this enuff. Going over 16 in high unit count missions (300 or more) will result in warping, especially if you have people with high ping times. 14 is a safer number.

we had 20 or more on the highway at one point (i was warping/seeing lag, but My brother was playing a MMO at the time too),
How many units on on that one WC?,

I was on the Firehouse this weekend, in the Playground mission and with 20 ppl, and while I was starting my P-51 I saw an F-15 hover right past me, at about 20 knots. Although, I'm not sure if it was due to lag, or due to my client loading an F-15 model instead of a Ka-50.

Re: DCS World v 1.2.3.9871 is released - 02/26/13 05:24 PM

we normally on avg see 10-12 pilots... seeing 24 when I joined was insane, smooth for the most part, but i had times where planes would just lag all over the place for a good minute or 2. Weirdly enough, once Novo was cleared out, the warping went away for good at that point..

But we had 24 pilots in A-10Cs, KA-50s, and Players on the ground (i didnt see any F-15 Slots when I was on)

Do not gloss this over. I can't stress enough. over 16 in a 400+ unit mission will cause warping. If you go over 400 units then the number in you can host and have stability goes down to 14. Pings will also be important to watch to avoid warping and silliness.

Re: DCS World v 1.2.3.9871 is released - 02/26/13 06:12 PM

Of course, it's one of those catch-22s that unless your mission is primarily air-to-air you're going to need more ground units the more players you have...or else you have a dozen mud movers with little to do!
For A2A, you can easily keep ground units to ADA only.

I guess this means mission makers who liked adding "busy" units at airfields just to give them life will have to cut back.

Re: DCS World v 1.2.3.9871 is released - 02/26/13 06:21 PM

thing is, DCS, Never really had MP Guidelines in regards to limits of players or objects in a mission.
Posted By: Jedi Master

Re: DCS World v 1.2.3.9871 is released - 02/26/13 06:29 PM

No, but the RAM requirements definitely increase with more objects. Hence the need for 64-bit unless you have very limited missions, and even with 64-bit you need more than 4GB RAM for them or you'll have far too much HDD swapping going on. I suppose an SSD would mitigate that somewhat, but for those like me with standard HDDs, going to 8GB was a must.
It's no surprise that it would apply to MP as well.

24 pilots sigh

That's still really too low... feeling rather underwhelmed at the moment.

Re: DCS World v 1.2.3.9871 is released - 02/26/13 06:39 PM

We will certainly test this out - *many* of my missions have over 400 units. I typically cap my server at 21 clients - one for the server and 20 for joins.

Yes, over the Fly-In weekend we were easily at 16 on v1.2.2, and may have hit the limit a few times. There was warping at times, and not necessarily with a high-Client number.

I think people need to understand, this isnt Battlefield 3.

You're not gonna be able to have 32/64+ Man Servers with the amount of data that each client is required to broadcast and receive.

Cliffs of Dover thousands of ground objects and 80+ pilots online, not that I was expecting that

But I was expecting a 32 player recommendation with all the hype.

My understanding was that ED wanted to eventually take us there, with massive engagements spanning Air/Land/Sea.

Just curious, what data is being transferred? I thought for MP, most games just upload co-ordinates/ actions of other players, which is relatively light-weight data.

CloD is/was worse off than DCSW ever was.

Im pretty sure A-10C's transmit a shi-Ton of data to other users in regards to sensors.

Same with JTAC Controllers/Ground Units of Combined Arms.

Im pretty sure now that the Netcode is stabilized in terms of CRASHES (which was the PRIMARY FOCUS), that ED will continue to stream line and optimize the netcode further.

Odd how I get 60fps with full settings flying with 80 players

Yet can barely get near 40 in DCS World...

Re: DCS World v 1.2.3.9871 is released - 02/26/13 06:57 PM

It isn't light at all. There are plenty of data to transfer - vectors, states of certain equipment (eg, is ECM or lights on, is the throttle in a certain position, is the airbrake out, are ailerons deflected), etc.

Even when experimenting with LEAVU together with Yoda, we found that 'simple datalink' communications ate quite a bit of bandwidth depending on how frequent they needed to be.

And the faster you go, the more frequent data updates you really need, especially for maneuvering entities.

Gotcha. So for modern, systems laden war machines, we're kinda SOL on the massive wargame front until we all get terabit spec connection speeds frown

Well, if nothing else, 1.2.3. means we're that much closer to the Huey smile

PS: no joy on auto-updater yet

No P51 updates?

So I guess it's okay for fps to drop from 35-40 in the cockpit down to 10-20 when firing the machine guns? Even below 10 when strafing ground objects?

CLoD is a well known platform of issues. not withstanding it's 5 year release delay, several issues, and the fact that the developers stopped supporting it a year and a half later.

Traveling below 350knots w/ barely any electric equipment other than radios that need to have data transmitted to other players is not the same as DCSW. where AI and Human Controlled Aircraft can travel up to 4 to 5 times the speeds in CLoD while still having to transmit and receive position data and equipment data.

Like I said I was not expecting 80+ merely a reasonable 32...

What issues in COD? I guess you never played the last two patches.... its certainly a lot more stable on my machine than dcs is in terms of a constant fps.

32 is more than reasonable with limited Ground objects, and a decent Server.

Like I Said, CloD doesnt have to Simulate 100's of Sensors and Instruments. End of Story.
I Maintain 60 Frames/Sec VSYNC all of the time, except when CBUs are deployed.. Across 5 Screens now at 5400x1920

I bailed on CLoD when the The Developers Bailed on it, why? to Make a completely new game instead of fixing the rest of the problems in the one they had.

[admin edit: keep on topic]

Anyway CoD is history and DCS are the only dev left to produce a decent ww2 sim smile

With the old AA systems hopefully ww2 based DCS servers can go over 32 players smile

Re: DCS World v 1.2.3.9871 is released - 02/26/13 07:40 PM

Not really, because in-game machines don't need to emulate real life exactly. You can cheat. We couldn't 'cheat' with LEAVU, we had to transmit own aircraft data to everyone on the data-link. By comparison an A-10C in-game can just get the status of datalink of a buddy, and show him on your screen if criteria like line of sight and SNR is correct by using the coordinates sent to it by the server. So now you're instantly spared from sending the vector data twice.

Now, if you were to start having to do rapid updates of your sensors to others etc (in the case of A-10C this is a single point, ie. your SPI) with an A2A aircraft that may possibly detect multiple targets, as well as which ones you're designating, your systems status and possibly your RWR status, and so does everyone else in your 8-ship flight, things might start to look troublesome.

Now that's not as bad if you send it all say, once a second or once every couple of seconds, naturally, but then you're not simulating a high-bandwidth data-link.

I've already been on a Server that was around 28 players and is "P-51D only" with special missions for P-51Ds.

as soon as it gets FW-190, im sure it will be added to those missions.

There's no reason why you can't host 32 if you have a powerful enough machine and enough bandwidth ... as long as you're not hosting 10's of moving units or lots of units shooting at each other.

32 is essentially a carefully crafted mission with specific obectives in either a COOP or force-on-force scenario. I can't tell you how many units are acceptable given a number of clients (and it's important to know how many units are moving and/or fighting at any given time as well), but you probably don't want much more than 300 or 400.

Autoupdate to 1.2.3 will be available around 8:30-9:00PM UTC.

Please, note:
1) Just running dcs_updater.exe checks for updates only once a day, to force a check, use 'Update DCS World' item from the Start menu. Alternatively, cmdline: dcs_update.exe update

2) Even while update server capacity was increased and some mirror selection problems were fixed, the servers most probably will slowly melt under your excitement. So, be patient, meditate on the progress bar and the enlightenment wil come in due time. The download size and speed indication will appear, but not in this release.

Happy simming, and don't forget your family.

Wonder what "TGP IR operation" is fixed. I wish they would finish modeling the A-10C. Quite a few aspects that I would like to use that hasn't been modeled yet. And I guess I'll go blue holding my breath for INS drift. It's a shame one generic drift system could plug in to dozens of aircraft.

Try asking about the 1.2.4 release date in the ED forums and watch their head explode.
They're already made the mistake of mentioning it for a couple of bugs that have been found, like the CBU-87 fram rate bug that is still there.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch,
I get this stupid message -
DCS World 1.2.2.7570 has been already installed.
Can't install 1.2.3.9871 into the same folder because addons may stop working.

You can use 'Repair DCS World' or 'Update DCS World' menu items.

For Heaven's sake - I want to overwrite the old files - I backed out Slmod changes and still cannot update to v1.2.3. I don't want to use the auto-update - I already have the DCS World v1.2.3 download and don't want to go through a 2 hour Repair or Update.

Scheesh.

---> Edit --- It's going now. I uninstalled DCS World and am installing the new v1.2.3 from the Hollo Pointe admin account.

I'm soo glad this update did not happen earlier - during the Fly-In.

You just have to be patient if using the autoupdater. It seems to stop but is still running. If you arent sure just look in the network section of the task manager. You'll see the activity.
As to a fresh install I'd try a new directory and then copy the other files in after that.
Posted By: eno75

Re: DCS World v 1.2.3.9871 is released - 02/27/13 01:38 AM

Cord it'll only come up during a normal startup once... go into it via "update DCS World" in the start menu...

Fortunately my update was very smooth- but I only needed to update World (so far.)

Slmod didn't impact anything- but I did need to go back and take the scripts file from the "backup 11" and put it back. I think there was another folder in there too- basically those files just merge and works well.

Why not? I have fond memories of servers hosting 70+ people without problems in FC2/BS1.

If the DCS series will be "practically capped" at ~20 players the whole combined arms concept will be a bit lame. I hope they aiming for more players in the future and also releases a dedicated server.

Re: DCS World v 1.2.3.9871 is released - 02/27/13 01:43 PM

Would have been nice of DCS to mention when the autoupdate function would be available on their announcement page. As it was, after trying until mid evening I decided to wait until this morning to update.

I was looking for this info but didn't find it - so for those who are in the same boat, my connection speed is just under 3MB/s (about 345k/s transfer speed) and it took around 50 minutes to auto-update completely (by starting DCSW and allowing the update - it scans for your modules and versions first).

The DCSW install folder increased in size by about 250MB - that's with every module except P-51D installed.

Hope this helps some peeps smile

Re: DCS World v 1.2.3.9871 is released - 02/27/13 02:08 PM

I'm guessing my autoupdate took probably about 90 minutes, but I didn't time it closely.

I didn't get much stick time last night, but I was able to join an MP server in A-10C without any login or activation issues. It felt like FPS were much higher, especially for being at an airfield, but I didn't test enough to be sure, and I didn't get around to checking the rest of the changelog. Hopefully I'll get to check out the other modules in MP later this week or this weekend.

I wasn't aware that you could individually update each module. That sounds strange to me. Surely the whole point of World is that all modules are kept in sync and unified under a single version?

Anyway, I just used the auto-updater which updates World and all of the modules in a single pass. No problems or requests for the Lock On disk here.

Ah right, I was on auto-pilot and used the auto installer but then went on to add the modules individually too and all worked until the FC3 one but I have just checked it and it works fine.

Has anyone else noticed they have cleaned the A-10C model up? It looks too clean now and I liked its dirty/weathered look as it looks like they do in photos.

And, now with the 1.2.3 patch:

You need to make sure the rights are OK.
It requires some advanced user actions though:
Code:
1) Start regedit.exe

2) Locate the key
  64-bit Windows: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Ubisoft\Eagle Dynamics\Lock On
  32-bit Windows: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Ubisoft\Eagle Dynamics\Lock On

3) For each subkey, that is:
Ubisoft', then 'Eagle Dynamics', then 'Lock On'
right click -> Permissions -> Advanced: make sure there's no 'Deny' rules.
If there's some, delete them, but only 'Deny' ones.

This should help.
If that's the case, this is the only solution. It can't be fixed in the installer.
Most probably you have an 'Ultimate' or 'Enterprise' version of Windows and they ship with the most strict security settings, which seem to clash with old LOMAC installer.

Has anyone else noticed they have cleaned the A-10C model up? It looks too clean now and I liked its dirty/weathered look as it looks like they do in photos.

The SU-27 new model looks nice though:

Mace, How do I get the Maryland skin? I live very close to Warfield ANG Base where the A-10s are based.

Mace is that seriously a Raven's decal on the A-10C dirty picture?

IF it is, I hope they shoot your ass down all day long.

I don't have that choice. Where can I find it or do I need to DL it? I need to be looking at A-10C right, or should I look in FC3?

I think you can change it in the mission planner before you start a mission, but your wingma(e)n still have the default one.

Has anyone noticed the Su-25T training doesn't appear to be there? I DL'd and installed it awhile back, but in 1.2.3 it's blank even though the files are still in the C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\aircrafts\Su-25T\Missions\EN\Training (or whichever folder) path.

That's correct, you have to change it in the ME. The skin has been included in DCS A-10C for as long as I can remember.

I tried but I am not as proficient in this game as most. I tried but I couldn't find where to change the Sq or skin. Any more help would be appreciated.

click on Mission Planner at the bottom of the mission briefing screen, and you can select the Paint Scheme for your aircraft.

on the next screen click on the plane which you want to choose the paint scheme for.

click on the Payload icon and then you can select the skin from the Paint Scheme drop-down.

Does that only work in A-10C or can you do that in FC3 also?

Does anyone know what the FFB trim fix is? Is it related to the stick movement (automatic lurch) when hitting the trim button?

Works for everything including AI.

Refuelling in the F-15 is still broken. As soon as contact is made the aircraft makes an uncontrollable lurch either up or down, then disconnects - which is different to the uncontrollable lurch left or right previously - but still not working.

Are you referring to the AI AAR or player controlled?
Posted By: valleyboy

Re: DCS World v 1.2.3.9871 is released - 03/01/13 10:23 PM

Player controlled - just tried again with higher airspeeds - minor jump to start with, but autopilot takes over and then seems to refuel fine. Seems a tad buggy at lower airspeeds - i.e. impossible due to aircraft jumping in either direction and disconnecting.

that's an Issue with SFM.

Strange. I have no problems refueling in the F-15, but the Su-33 is a different story. I get disconnected as soon as I make contact with the basket.

I've tried it and don't have that problem, what airspeed are you refueling at?

Around 240 knots.

Re: DCS World v 1.2.3.9871 is released - 03/03/13 11:21 AM

Apologies if you're already aware of this, but the speed indicated in the Russian aircraft's HUDs is km/h, not knots.

240 km/h is only 130 knots.

Re: DCS World v 1.2.3.9871 is released - 03/03/13 01:29 PM

Refuelling aircraft speed set at 275 kts, this is in a small mission to practice refuelling - at this speed i can refuel the A-10, but the F-15 will not connect, aircraft makes large uncontrolled manover and instantly disconnects. Refuelling aircraft set at 325kts, I can now refuel the F-15 at this speed - not as jumpy as the lower speed.

For comparison, below is the v1.2.2 Su-27:

And below is the v1.2.3 Su-27:

However, the v1.2.3 Su-30 and Su-33 are still using the old models:

They never said those Flankers, or the 32/34, were getting updated. As the 30 isn't even flyable, I'm not too concerned anyway. I would like a newer 33 at some point, but that's a low priority.
