"Oldbie" returning to RB3D

"Oldbie" returning to RB3D - 10/19/02 02:05 AM

Hi All
The last time I played RB3D was about 3 - 4 years ago, with a P200 MMX & a Glide card.

Now I want to return to the simple days when the only thing separating a pilot from victory or death was his flying skills.

My question is how do I slave an old Voodoo card (assuming I can find one) to my rig in order to play RB3D in all its glory, without resorting to Glide wrappers? My TNT2 is installed in the AGP port, so how can I put in a PCI card & get the 2 of them to work together?

My machine specs:

P3 500 MHz
256 MB RAM
TNT2 Ultra w/32 MB RAM
SB Live!
DX 8.1

Thanks in advance for any advice.

A TNT and a voodoo2 will live together quite happily. All you need to do is find an old V2 off of E-Bay like BvH says. They are quite easy to pick up.
Just plug it in and add the drivers

Sorry to have to ask this, but I'm sort of a noob when it comes to tech stuff.

So you're saying I just slot in the Voodoo card in any available PCI slot & install the drivers? That's it? How do I make sure that the Voodoo card isn't used for my other games (which are all D3D based)?

There is a program that will make your voodoo work only for glide applications but not sure the name of it.. Anyone?....

This shouldn't be an issue. Most games will choose your primary video card to run graphics from and if it doesn't you will usually get some sort of option that will allow you to select which card you want to use.
In respect of Red Baron,it will use your TNT for Direct Draw and only the glide card if you select Glide in graphic preferences.
There is only one game I have had over the years that gave me a problem over which vidoe card to use as default, that was EAW and that was easily fixed by editing the .ini file.
If you do want to turn off the D3D HAL on your Voodoo card. There is a utility called Power Strip that'll do that for you.Find it at http://www.reactorcritical.com/index.shtml
