PLEASE ADVISE ME.

Hello all,

After almost 15 years of hiatus, I finally get back to this game. I am so confused of all the patches and I need your help to get this game running smoothly. I installed the RB3D from GOG, patched to 1078 then add PL2, HASP and FCJ. I use the dgvoodoo 1.5 beta2 version to get the Glide option. I also downloaded the latest version of the ATI Radeon 5770 card. The problem I have is very bad FPS. When I hit Alternate F, I get only 15 PFS. Even with everything of minimum and lowest resolution, I only can get up to 16 PFS. My PC is the brand new Gateway FX with i7 processor. Can you help me to get better FPS on this as I feel something is not set up correctly. I use Win7. Thanks DP

How is your dgvoodoo configured? Make sure you do it like below for maximum performance (an option of that wrapper was made especially for Red Baron 3D!)

Thank you so much for replying! When I click the Voodoo set up tab in the Red Baron folder, it has a menu that looks like Greek to me. I have NO CLUE what boxes to check and uncheck so I left it as is. Can you please walk me through it? I am DYING to get this game playable. Thanks DP

I tried that and the PFS is only 8 now. Any other ideas? I uninstalled everything and started from scratch but the game keeps crashing. I keep seeing the HA screen as the game exits although I deleted everything and started on a clean slate. For some reason, the new install still get the HA patch in it. I spoke to a person at the PC store and he told me I need to upgrade my video card to something more powerful. He suggested a card around 400 bucks. But what I have (Radeon 5770) should be good enough right? DP

Such low FPS is very strange! So i have to ask the obvious question: did you copied both dgvoodoosetup.exe and glide2x.dll in main Red Baron directory? (where Baron.exe is) Do so, and try again there (dgvoodoosetup writes back some information in the glide2x.dll file found in the same directory with it).

Otherwise, check at the wings-of-valor forum, Wailwulf posted some links to other glide wrapper variants. But normally dgvoodoo should be best, others have various problems afaik.

So I am supposed to extract both glide2x.dll and dgvoddosetup.exe files into red baron 3d folder? I thought I must choose one particular type of wrapper? Thanks and I am so sorry for being so naieve. DP

Yes, extract those files to RB3D folder and run dgvoodoosetup from there, configuring it as in the link i sent you first time above. Red Baron looks for a glide2x.dll first in its directory, then in system path. So everytime you want to try a wrapper, move its glide2x.dll in RB3D directory if possible, but if it installs system-wide (e.g. zeckensack's glide wrapper) then you have to delete glide2x.dll from RB3D directory so that it won't interfere with the system installed one. Anyway, in your case just try this.

You never have to uninstall if you follow the directions in my sticky post at the top of the Forum! Never modify the original install of RedBaron3d! Use copies of it to play with addons and utilities.
Any modern computer should run RB3D flawlessly with dGvoodoo 1.5beta2, I don't know about with Win7.
