A-10C Warthog - Smerch Hunt - Video Commentary

Folks,

This is an A-10C Warthog single mission known as Smerch Hunt flown in the DCS: A-10C module to DCS: World. These videos fall into the AAR category with commentary provided throughout. The idea behind these is to verbalize what I do during mission planning and mission execution to give new players (or experienced players) an idea of what to do and what a full mission looks like. Sometimes just seeing someone else go through the motions of planning and flying a mission from beginning to end can make a big difference in terms of enjoying your own missions. (There is an identical post in the AAR forum but I am posting it here as well to reach more of the intended audience.)

These videos are viewable all the way up to 1080p using the YouTube player so they should look good even when viewed full-screen.

I realize the videos are a little long and no normal human being wants to listen to me talk for hours at a time. I will provide time references to major events so you will be able to pick and choose what you want to see.

Watched all three videos over the past couple of nights. Thanks for uploading these Bunyap, I enjoyed watching your attempt at this mission. Such a shame that your hard drive filled up before the end.

When running this mission last week I had a few fun moments with my wingman as you did. I also got caught out by the COAC and didn't jot down the co-ordinates in time for the Smerch at waypoint 4 (?) protected by the Manpads. I slewed to the waypoint with my TGP assuming it was that waypoint that he was calling out, but was so busy looking through the town, not thinking they'd sit out in the open on the outskirts, that I completely missed them.

After clearing the other Smerchs at the other waypoints including the Smerch and SAMs and Dog Ear at Waypoint 5 or 6(?) I headed back to base. Flying back to base I drifted low, letting my guard down, and right into the engagement envelope of the SAMs protecting the Smerch that I didn't know the co-ords of! I didn't get a launch warning and two Manpad SAMs turned me a little crispy.
