Team Fusion and 1C Games sign Agreement in Principle - Dec 21st 2016 - 12/21/16 03:06 PM

Well here goes!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOHjagp4L4U&feature=youtu.be

Statement from Team Fusion
First of all, Team Fusion would like to thank 1C ONLINE GAMES and in particular Nikolay Baryshnikov and Jason Williams for their generosity in signing off on this preliminary Agreement in Principle. The agreement will to allow Team Fusion the opportunity to gain access to the Source Code and partner with 1C. The goal is to develop and refine the original IL-2 STURMOVIK CLIFFS OF DOVER and then to take it further, towards new Map Theaters and Aircraft sets. 1C is one of the few remaining online gaming companies willing to actively support the Flight Simulation genre. They invested considerably in the development of CLIFFS OF DOVER in order to continue the legacy of the original IL-2. Now thanks to 1C's recognition of Team Fusion's work, the CLIFFS OF DOVER game engine will move forward again.

TEAM FUSION will be reborn as TEAM FUSION SIMULATIONS. We will be a separate company from 1C Online Games. We will be in partnership with them as an independent developer, with 1C Online Games marketing and distributing the Releases we provide to them. 1C will not be investing in our company, or paying any salaries or contracts, instead, the partnership will revolve around a revenue sharing agreement based on the total sales of our Releases. TFS will live or die depending on the number of games sold. Without a good product and the support of the community we will not succeed.
We are still the same group of die-hard Flight Sim enthusiasts... now we have a chance to do our work with the proper tools in our hands.
We would like to remind the community Flight Sims are a very small niche in the overall online gaming market, and we should all consider offering our support to those gaming companies like 1C who are willing to take a risk on such a small potential market. BATTLE OF STALINGRAD, BATTLE OF MOSCOW and the upcoming BATTLE OF KUBAN are fine examples of the genre, and worthy inheritors of the IL-2 STURMOVIK tradition.

TF's next word of thanks is to our wonderful community. You are the people who kept us in the game, whose cheers and compliments fed our enthusiasm. Without the dedication of the many volunteers who did everything from creating 'how to' videos, to creating missions, to organizing online and real life events, we would not have had the chance to be where we are. Our most heartfelt thanks to all. You guys are the BEST!
Now we are sure people are very enthusiastic about this announcement, but we would have to caution everyone this is only the first step. We do have every confidence we will be able to sign a final legal agreement with 1C, but there is still a lot of work to be done. The negotiations to this point were tough and businesslike. But thanks to the good faith of both parties, we have an agreement in principle. Team Fusion is also in the process of incorporating, and that is an extremely complex undertaking, with our membership being from around the world.

We also have to add a word of warning to those who think this agreement will speed up the arrival of TF 5.0. While we gain many advantages from our official status, TFS is also now held to higher standards. A North African expansion without a P-40 might be ok for an amateur group to release, now that Team Fusion is operating as a professional organization, we have to acknowledge a Desert Campaign without a P-40 is just not a Desert Campaign. And that is just one of a number of additions or refinements we will need to add to TF 5.0. There has also been the fact these negotiations have introduced a level of uncertainty into the equation. Many members stopped work... because all the many hours they might put in working without the Source Code could be reduced to minutes if we did have access to it. So that slowed down work on TF 5.0. Finally, even when we have access, the Source Code is still a very complex and detailed piece of code, which will take some time to understand. After so many years, it is unclear whether the original manuals and support documents are still available.

The following is a general outline of the plan moving forwards.

1. Team Fusion incorporates as TEAM FUSION SIMULATIONS. 1C and TFS sign the final legal agreement. We expect this will happen in January. TFS receives access to the Source Code.
2. Within a few weeks of the signing, TFS releases a single-install compilation of all Team Fusion work up to TF 4.312 as a 'Community Mod'. This package will be hosted on Steam as an optional update for all original game owners.
3. Within a number of months, TFS releases a new edition of the original game. This will have all the current TF 4.312 'mods', but this time these work-arounds and adaptions will be properly written to the Source Code, and the game will also be upgraded to DX11. In addition, we will provide a number of 'extras' over what is currently in TF 4.312. We can't say what these will be at this point, but we are sure the community will appreciate them. This 'new' game will replace the old one on Steam, and will be a free upgrade to those who already own CLIFFS.
4. With a completion date of 2017, work on TF 5.0 will proceed. As mentioned, we will be adding the P-40 to the aircraft already promoted in our TF updates to this point. There will be other additions, although the details will have to wait for our regular updates to reveal.
---
Team Fusion Simulations will at some point be moving to a new official website, complete with forums and the progress of our work. The details of this are still being negotiated.
---
Finally, we think it is appropriate the Community is finally introduced to the people who made Team Fusion possible. Up to this point we have let ourselves remain anonymous, now we can be a little more upfront with our key members.
Current Team Fusion Simulations Members:

Our first mention is for ATAG_Bliss. John Bliss is not an actual modder, he doesn't work with the files, but he did contribute something which was incredibly important... when we were all starting out, he generously offered the members of TF a secure home with ATAG. It cannot be overstated how important it was for us to have a place to meet, discuss our work and exchange files and information. Everyone knows Bliss holds very strong opinions and ideas... not as many know he has a BIG heart. Thanks John.

ATAG_Colander: Even those in Team Fusion still have a nagging question in their minds... Could Colander possibly... really be... an odd but brilliant Alien life form? One thing for certain, he has other-worldly coding skills. The 'Core.dll' of Team Fusion.

Mysticpuma: Our impulsive, mercurial and wildly enthusiastic promotions guy. The man who makes Flight Simmers weak in the knees with anticipation for his update videos.

VO101_Tom: The head of our 3D department, the nicest guy in Team Fusion, always ready to help out junior modelers with advice, always willing to go on Teamspeak for extended seminars. Also the 3D modeler for ships and planes, including the 109E7, Bf-108 as well as the cockpit for the 109F.

Salmo: A quiet but steady presence... Brings our maps to life with texture, detail and incredible perseverance.

ATAG_Slipstream: Our sound wizard, quietly working in the background, deep in the sound machine, creating aural symphonies of engines, props and weapons.

TheVino3: Our visual effects guy. When things go 'boom' and your mind goes "Ahhhh..." ...that's Vino. Also a sound contributor.

ATAG_Wolf: Ships and Import/Export. When you see a Battleship swivel its guns and fire a broadside or watch the controls and gauges in the new Beaufighter cockpit work, that is courtesy of Wolf.

Major_Setback: The "Skins_R_Us" for TF. Working tirelessly to create those historically accurate paintschemes you really appreciate.

Kling: A real life pilot with an eye for detail, perfect for getting those landscape and atmospheric textures just right.

Jano_D: A 3D artist par excellence who has done ship and plane work.. just one of his contributions... the beautiful Wellington cockpit.

Kashiide: Another 3D genius... incredibly fast... Beaufighter and Gladiator fans will enjoy his cockpits... as well as his many other creations.

Spiritus_Mortem: The only guy we've met who could write his PhD and learn from scratch the intricacies of 3D modeling... Simultaneously! Author of the Martlet.

ATAG_yotheguy: Another self-taught 3D modeler... started small with vehicles, finished big with a cockpit. CR42 flyers will love his work.

Kopperdrake: What would we be without Hurricanes in the Desert? And we can promise you, there will be lots of Hurris... courtesy this 3D artist.

Danperin: Human skins... artwork, logos, whatever is on the menu, Danperin is an enthusiastic contributor.

JG4_Bendwick: Working hard on our 109F external model. Yes, we know you want it now!

Members on temporary hiatus or semi-retired:

Ivank: His real life experience in F-18's, A-380's and Warbirds, not to mention his long experience in Flight Simming makes this Flight Modeler a crucial fixture in the FM department.

Mattias: A generalist in the best sense, shared the Project Manager's position, the distant aircraft fix was his, as well as many other improvements. Now busy with his real life passion: Architecture.

Biggs: A 3D artist who started the Spit V's well on their way. Now taking a break.

falkon: Wrote some critical programs for 3D import/export.

Kodoss: Our German 110 specialist... come on back Kodoss!

Hawkzz: Started our first attempt at the P-40... sadly personal and computer issues halted the project.

Bluesix: An able Flight Modeling assistant.

ATAG_Torric: Our bomber testing specialist.

There are many others I have not mentioned... some hopefully to return....

The writer is RAF74_Buzzsaw, lucky enough to be Project Manager and Flight Modeler from the start, owing most of my success to being surrounded by other incredibly talented and generous modders. Took advantage of my place in TF to indulge my two inner demons, the history wonk and the flight data nerd.

Now... a reminder for those who have high level skills in 3D modeling, Codework and yes... Mission building.... we are looking for people who would like the opportunity to join us, enjoy a hobby and have a chance to earn some cash for their work... nobody's going to make their fortune, but fun and a decent amount more than beer money are a good possibility. Remember though... no money up front... work has to be completed and published... and we only will see revenues if there are successful sales.
---
Lots more to come folks... stay tuned, we are just getting started!

Cheers to all.

And here is the announcement from Jason Williams at 1CGS just posted on their forums:

1CGS to Cooperate with Team Fusion on IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover

1CGS is excited to announce that we have reached an agreement in principle to cooperate with Team Fusion on future commercial development of IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover. This includes giving Team Fusion access to the Cliffs of Dover source code so they may continue their work to fix and improve Cliffs of Dover and build commercial add-ons for the base title. Such cooperation was made possible only recently as full ownership rights to Cliffs of Dover was returned to 1C Company after many years. We can now allow Team Fusion to continue their work more comfortably and help turn Cliffs of Dover into the product is was intended to be. 1CGS recognizes the hard work and passion that Team Fusion has exhibited in improving Cliffs of Dover and we welcome their continued dedication to the product. We also welcome them to the 1CGS family of developers who help make the combat flight-sim genre and IL-2 Sturmovik series so compelling.

In the coming weeks and months, Team Fusion’s work will be offered as an official content update and patch for Cliffs of Dover on Steam. This update will merge all the current changes and fixes into one update. The update will initially be optional. Not long thereafter, the update will be codified by Team Fusion and officially entered into the source code and file system for the product itself. The title will then be permanently updated through Steam negating the need for a separate patch.

Later in 2017, the first commercial add-on for Cliffs of Dover will be released. The add-on will be focused on the North Africa theater and will update the engine to DirectX 11 and include new airplanes, a new map and other content and improvements. There is a possibility that other theaters will be developed in the future pending the outcome of this first add-on. More information about the North Africa add-on will be made public in the coming weeks.

The Cliffs of Dover product line will be distinct and separate from the IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad line produced by 1CGS. Both game engines will be developed separately by each team with the announced IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Kuban development schedule unchanged and unaffected by this announcement.

Cliffs of Dover and its add-ons will be sold on the official IL-2 website (www.il2sturmovik.com) and through Steam. There are no current plans to incorporate Cliffs of Dover into the existing 1CGS user account system. Players will continue to manage their Cliffs of Dover install through Steam just as it is done now.

We hope you find this announcement to be exciting and re-assuring that your favorite hobby will continue to grow and flourish. 1CGS and Team Fusion ask for your support as this new era of cooperation and development begins!

Re: Team Fusion and 1C Games sign Agreement in Principle - Dec 21st 2016 - 12/21/16 11:51 PM

it's funny reading how people are having one last dig at Cliffs and the fan base on the BoS forums before they need to shut up because Jason has basically confirmed they need CLoD to save their BoS franchise.

Quote:
Anything with airplanes is competition and those users are potential customers even if a remote possibility. Even if the crossover is 1% from various sources it adds up. Not everyone segments themselves and supports only one game. Also, we compete in different areas. Visuals, sound, FMs, Content etc. Any one appealing feature may bring a new customer. Some of you are only looking at "type of product" a the key ingredient. I will never win over most WT, DCS, FSX or other products users, I just need some and my core audience we've already built. The problem is many in the core audience, all the #%&*$# talking about us and our product due to closing CLOD and Unlocks didn't do us any favors. I have 16 months to change that or die basically.

Help me or leave me alone is all I ask.

Jason

Wow, that came out of no where. I have always said this would be the best thing to happen.
There is just to much unlocked potential in the CLOD engine, and this should open up CLOD
to become what it is capable of being, and that is one of the Top Notch Flight Sims. Congrats
to all, especially TFS for what you have already released. Now hopefully being able to learn
and soon use the proper tools in the source code will allow you to "Make CLOD Great Again!!!"
through an Official Update/Patch. Good luck TFS and nice logo by the way. biggrin

S!Blade<><

P.S. really work hard on the AI as it is a bit whacked still. This is a CRUCIAL SP must have to
draw in even more SPs. yep

Re: Team Fusion and 1C Games sign Agreement in Principle - Dec 21st 2016 - 12/22/16 04:24 AM

I think this is the best thing to happen to the genre since BoS...

Things look good for virtual prop jocks.. You have BoS, It would appear that DCS is finally coming around.. and now this. Regardless to what has been said in the past in my opinion TF getting the source coder and a full green light.. changes things in a good way that will only benefit simmers.

Re: Team Fusion and 1C Games sign Agreement in Principle - Dec 21st 2016 - 12/22/16 01:39 PM

Hmph. So 1C is expecting an improvement (by an unspecified amount) in the size of the customer base by Q2 2018 then?

I don't see why that's not achievable. I also don't say it's guaranteed one way or the other. Simmers can be a fickle bunch.

Solid steps have been taken to repair the damage done. We'll see how many people are swayed by it. Myself, I finally bought BoM. I did not preorder BoK, however. So I would say I'm on the road to return, but I have not made it there yet.

Re: Team Fusion and 1C Games sign Agreement in Principle - Dec 21st 2016 - 12/23/16 12:03 AM

OK. I'll be the bad guy here.
How much can we expect to pay for the North Africa map and future aircraft now the 1C are involved and a wanting some finacial return for granting TF access to the source code and other tools? Im sure they are not doing this out of the kindness of their heart.

I think it is a fantastic thing for Cliffs, TF and flightSiming in general.
But I find once money gets involved and people start demanding their pound of flesh things generally tend to start revoloving around the plughole.

With that said, I sincerly hope I am wrong in this case as I love CLOD and have done since it was released. I wish TF Simulations all success and hope the the new Cliffs of Dover takes off and flies true (pun intended).

I am really looking forward to flying Cliffs of Dover as it should have been when it was released.

PS can you put radio calls somewhere at teh top of you fix list please smile

Yes, Tobruk map will be released as payware - probable in end of 2017 since they will need finish P-40 first - or maybe import from BoM.

More soon will be updated STEAM install for 4.312 - so easy the users life, and after will be released a new revised installation of CloD with DX11 support and all TF fixes incorporated to the code - actually they need workarounds for work.

I like the idea to have option for buy something from the guys. smile

Team Fusion Simulations will be tied to 1C.

I may be in the minority here, but I don't care for a new map or aircraft.
All I want is the many limitations in CloD fixed.
Right now aircraft spotting is still too difficult, the AI are all over the place, ground control Command routines are a mess. All of this makes SP nearly impossible to enjoy.

I don't mind paying for improvements. I just want to pay for the right improvements.

Right now a new map and new aircraft are right down the bottom of my wish list for CloD.

Re: Team Fusion and 1C Games sign Agreement in Principle - Dec 21st 2016 - 12/23/16 05:46 AM

Well, access to source code is exactly what was needed to tackle the AI issues, so these news are a significant step towards that. I had given up hope on an AI fix before but everything is possible again. And VR support will become a lot simpler too, which would be my dream for CloD.

That was the one of the first thoughts that crossed my mind too. Calling it an addon instead of a Campaign might give some clues to expected pricing??? They just released the "Ten Days of Autumn" Campaign for IL-2 BOS for just under $10.00 US and Addons typically have cost more. Even so if they continue to improve the game the price for an "addon" will most likely not keep me from buying it.

Re: Team Fusion and 1C Games sign Agreement in Principle - Dec 21st 2016 - 12/23/16 08:08 AM

According to Buzzsaw over at the BOS forum - "1C is not investing any money in TF... we are an independent... we have to stand or fall on our own two feet. What 1C gains is revenue from the new products TF releases" - I would take this to mean it's up to TF to decide pricing for their work and pay 1c whatever cut they've agreed on.

Re: Team Fusion and 1C Games sign Agreement in Principle - Dec 21st 2016 - 12/23/16 10:45 AM

Not how I see it, Cliffs is still the intellectual property of 1C so the revenue will probably go to them first and in principle an agreed cut goes to Team Fusion, furthermore none of 1CGS revenue for BoS/BoM/BoK go toward funding Cliffs development.

I share your concerns. Without addressing AI any benefits derived from new maps and aircraft will prove fleeting unless online players are the only real target audience. I hope that TFS will "level" with us once they have access to source code. For all we know there may not be a functional AI module included in source code. If that is the case it is best that the community be apprised of such a reality as early as possible o/w there will be more disappointed community members. A functioning BoB sim is what I am after, not a new theater for a broken or grievously underdeveloped BoB sim.

Right now a new map and new aircraft are right down the bottom of my wish list for CloD.

I agree with you - and I am not SP player, but know that most people coming for CloD actually are old "veterans" that just want play the old& good SP. smile

Fix that basic issues incentive mission makers. And they can prioritize improve the CloD "CAVU" weather to a more "British" one. smile

But the MP players just want more maps (some even don't care about the map be historic) and more "Uber" planes (Fw 190's, etc) - so their "pressure" is more visible.

+1. And improved radio communication.

I'm a 75% online young hipster dood and 25% Offline "Veteran" old geezer smile
I like online for the challenge, offline for the immersion. It's nice to run a proper sortie sometimes, rather than a quick airquake on ATAG.
Like you say with a decent AI and Radio comms, CloD could shine for mission makers and campaign makers, especially with the triggers and scripts that can be built in to the missions. But as it is .....meh!

One thing I did not mention above. That also needs to be fixed and really has bugged me since day one is the way rivers are rendered.
I live in SouthEast London on the border with Kent. I do not live in a swamp like it is depicted in game.
Every river is as wide as the Thames on the map. The place looks like it's been flooded.

I have a few hours flying over Kent in light aircraft, flying out of Rochester and I can assure you it looks nothing like what we see in game. Most of the amazonian rivers we see in game are just small streams that are not even visible from the air.

If I was modding CloD the first thing I'd do is dump the rivers, it's ridiculous at the moment. Always been an immersion killer for me.

Been fixed by TF already, expect to see non-swamp-England in TF5 (unless they actually throw things like this in when they shoot TF4312 out via steam? would be a nice surprise)

This is probably the best piece of information for flight sims i heard in past 7 years

It sounds good. I have a feeling that we may start paying for things, eventually, though. That's fine, I suppose. As long as new airplanes don't cost sixty dollars.

Just researched that. It was in an update 18 months ago. We have another year to wait for TF5.

I just wish TF would deliver incremental patches to improve the game. Rather than this big bang event they are planning.
I stopped flying CloD online about a year ago and have never bothered with SP. But i do follow the dev and am hoping TF eventually give us something that will draw me back in.

As you mentioned above, the Steam update is reported to include some new stuff. Lets just hope it isn't just bigger explosions and some other minor graphic tweaks.

I Spitfire Mark 5 and a Bf109F would make me happy for some time. It would bring the game up to the Summer of '41, something I've been wanting to see in this sim for a long time. I'd like to see them give is something like that now instead of having to wait for what Steve calls The Big Bang.

Why don't all of the people who have negative feelings about this just go and check out the ATAG forum? I just can't see one depressing or upsetting thing about this

I am a member at the ATAG forums. But I dont see what that has to do with any thing I or anyone else posts here.

I dont see anyone posting here with negative feelings about this venture. just genuine questions that need answers.
At the moment I also am not too bothered about new theatres or aircraft. I would just like to see the core game fixed before the move to North Africa.
I hope that now TF have access to the code and 1C's help, this will become an easier task for them.
The one area that needs major improvement IMO would be radio calls ( a MASSIVE bugbear of mine as they have been broken for ages.) as it stands now they are less than useless and a new theatre or new aircraft would also be rendered useless without this being fixed.
There are other areas that need work but I will leave this until the basic things in the game are working as they should.

As I have said I wish TFS all the best in this endevour but please fix the stuff in the original game before moving on.

Soupdragon has summed up my feelings exactly.
I will be happy to pay for a patch that addresses the many bugs in the game as it stands now.
Make the AI behave, fix radio comms and improve distant aircraft rendering. That will do me for now.

I agree, fix the core issues first, nobody wants another DCS World.

I got this game in the Friday sales for peanuts, kinda feel guilty how little I paid for such a good game, no problems at all throwing more money in this direction if the core bugs are addressed.

Hi guys, thanks for the positive feedback.

I have read your feedback and the points raised, not sure if any of you see my posts on various forums but I am very aware of how important the AI and Radio Commands are, especially for Mission Builders, and so I fly the flag promoting that this needs addressing.

I can't say too much unfortunately as I am now under the terms of a non disclosure agreement, but I am aware of the issues and hopes/expectations of our awesome community and we, as a team, really will be working hard to address legacy bugs and irritations as-well as the creation of new content.

It won't be a short process but at-least with the source code we will be able to start looking at where all those bugs are hiding and slowly dig them out and smash them with a bloody great hammer! attack

As and when I can I'll be back with more (official yay) updates.

Thanks again for your patience as we transition to a legit team working to make this Flight Sim the best it possibly can be.

Best wishes and a Happy New Year, cheers, MP/TFS

Bit late finding out about this. Congratulations with the acces to the source code! Finally some recognition for the good work you guys are doing. Surprised they did not do it sooner. Jason is right about the cross pollination in the WWII combat sim arena. I basically just buy everything WWII aviation related and give it a try.

Stopped playing BoS pretty quickly because of the unlocking issues. Never got into WT for the same reason. BoS fixed the unlocking and now I've bought BoM and will get BoK when it's released. Reinstalled Il2-1946 and fully modded it's still a blast at 8800x2560. Lots of choices for the WWII simmer.

Fix the core and you'll have a great base to start expanding from. Got the VKB Black Mamba with stick extension and Warthog stick grip. Right on time for all the new sim expansions coming out. Built it and I'll buy it!

I have to admit, I didn't even know TF didn't have access to the source code. How the heck did they even do what they did??? These guys are wizards. And just imagining what they can accomplish now is, well the best news ever for WWII flight sims. I will definitely support them.

Great news!

Not a big mod guy so my CloD has been collecting dust for years. When the mod gets made as an official patch on Steam I'll redownload and start flying again, great news thanks!
