Oh wonderful Mfg Crosswind - 02/26/18 07:05 PM

Owning the Warthog HOTAS for a couple of years now, I always felt, that all the rudder systems I owned were crap in comparison and everything I tried sucked. Starting with the CH pedals, (also known as the nut crusher), Saiteks and last and least the new Thrusmasters, I finally realized, I wasted time and money and that I might as well have bought the Crosswinds all along.

Well, I received my pedals in graphite/black a couple of weeks ago and finally I have a set of pedals to complement my Warthog.
The craftsmanship is amazing and in my desk configuration they are clearly visible to receive the admiration they deserve.

In terms of functionality and configuration, my flying improved right from the get go and after some testing with different spring stiffness and cambers, my taxiing, take offs, landings, coordinated turns and combat flying, all have improved exponentially. Gunnery alone is sooo much easier now. And my legs are now comfortably positioned.

I know the Crosswinds have been reviewed and commented on here a plenty, but I felt that I needed to bring this fine piece of equipment on the front page once more. If anyone is into serious simming and still on the fence, wait no longer.

Your's must have been in the same batch as mine! I got my graphite crosswinds a couple of weeks ago too, coming form a decades use of CH pedals. They really are in a different class. I have not changed the cam, but am running the new 'soft spring' option currently.

Congrats on the crosswinds. I would like a set of those but it looks like they need to secured in place. I have my VKB pedals under a regular desk on carpeted rug—not going to drill into the floor.

If you have a wall behind your desk you could use something as spacer between wall and pedals. Or secure the pedals onto a board and back it against the wall.

Mine aren't secured to the floor, but have the spacer bars against a wall. They can tip if you put one foot on them.

Mine are on a laminate floor. The rubber pads prevent sliding, but like Speyer says, the can tip when you first place your feet on them.

I have encountered a known problem with the pedals, in that they can cause my UEFI BIOS to not boot, (maybe 1 in 5 boot ups, hard to troubleshoot). Unfortunately I discovered the pedals to be the problem too late, as I suspected a new SSD, I had installed a couple of days ago. So 1 system restore, two recoveries and lots of troubleshooting later 🤪I have now plugged the pedals into a USB hub with power switches and I just keep the pedals powered off on boot.

I have the soft spring as well Speyer, but so far I found it to be too soft. I might try it for helicopters, once I have the time to try it out.

This sounds silly, but I was always put off by the aesthetics of the MFGs. Thought the colour of the material used made them look 'cheap', even though I was well aware that wasn't the case.

It wasn't until i read this topic that I knew the darker option existed. Have just placed my order biggrin

I still prefer Slaws all metal designs, but MFG have a good rep too.
