Weird situation with tanks - 03/31/13 10:48 PM

Ok so I was defending a small area with an infantry platoon, and slaughtered most of the Russian infantry, but then I had 2 matildas drive straight through my lines without anyone doing anything. My only AT capability were engineers with 3kg Geb. Ladung but I couldn't get them to use them. Finally after chasing after the Matildas for about 5 minutes, the explosives disappeared from the squad's inventory but I never saw them use them.

Is there no way to force infantry to "close assault armor"? It's a bit of a silly situation because the Matildas drove around in my lines and killed a couple guys but presumably because of the very low visibility (pitch black in a blizzard) they couldn't do much. But my infantry refuse to take them out, even though they're literally right next to them and are calling out "achtung panzer" every 5 seconds. What can I do?

Matildas is a hard nut for infantry AT weapons (even AT guns) but slow slow and most only with AP rounds.
Leave it alone and recapture area from time.

use houses for ambush zones or dig in if posible..then your infantry is much more effective against tanks.

So is there no special way to order an attack on a tank? I just need to position infantry near them?

Also what does the "ambush" icon do? I can't figure it out.

"Special way to order an attack on a tank" its defend AT guns from enemy infantry. Other orders its suicidal last chance way. Best infantry AT weapons its AT guns.

Attacking tanks with infantry is REALLY hard to pull off. Usually end up with most of your guys dead even if successful. If you get lucky and armor with no infantry around I have managed to pull off crazy assult from the rear of tanks. Looks totally stupid....... tank rolls by, order your infantry to case after it. Get them close and if they have weapons able to damage..... The 3kg demo charge thing can work IF you can get them to lob in on engine deck. Not vary likly at all. Better to pull out and get a unit with the right stuff to deal with it.

if you activate the "fire at will" button and deactivatee the "Fire on Infantry" button they dont give up their cover and when they see a chance to attack the tank they will do so..

German infantry are useless against tanks in this game, exception being the T-60s and 70s and sometimes T-26s.The AP bullets in the MGs are able to penetrate the armor on those vehicles pretty well and kill or wound the crew.

Before I start a campaign I try to get some kind of AT weapon in each infantry platoon if the game lets me do some swaps from the reserves.Even the grenade launcher is better than nothing.Attacking KVs or T34s with infantry alone is suicide and should be avoided even with engineers.

Different story though with the Russian infantry,I have no problems attacking tanks with them, even destroyed a Tiger once from a stone building with a squad of infantry and a AT rifle squad. That doesn't always work that way though,I tried the same thing in another battle later on and failed miserably knocked the track off of a Tiger and kept sending 1-2 squads at a time over to finish it off and the Tiger ended up shooting apart the better part of 2 platoons before I finally called off the attacks and let the Tiger sit there in peace.

From what I understand the first PFs didn't start arriving on the Russian front till about August 1943.Don't know who got them first and in what numbers and when they were considered standard issue for all German infantry units though.Haven't had much of an interest in researching that subject yet.
Andrey said He has no evidence of PFs being used by the Germans during the Mius Front battles,so We can count them out for GTMF.

I guess we will have to wait till this game starts depicting battles in late 43 before We start seeing PFs in this game.

Panzerfausts at early 1943, really? Time-machine or alternative history?

In our reality first use of PF on Eastern Front is autumn 1943 (November).

I read somewhere that said they were present in August 43 on the Russian Front but it didn't say what unit got them and how many.
I wouldn't expect to see them as standard German issue to all units till late 43 anyways.

lol, ok. I was off by a few months (ok a year). I expected by mid 1943 it was well within use, its not like I requested a Tiger II.

No at mid 1943 is to early. May be at Fastov or Kiev offensive. Germans already have beautiful GzB.39 granatenwerfer and rifle mortars, its enoughts.

Actually, the first uses of Panzerfaust was in November 1942. Panzerfaust 30 klein (faustpatrone) were distributed in Spring 1943 and the Panzerfaust 30 was being distributed in August

1942 Never come across, where the data source? Or distribution in spring 1943?

If they were used somewhere, in the reporting of these units were listed. But on such divisions under Mius (summer 1943) is nothing there.

SCREW panzerfaust....... First rocket heat weapon should be M1 bazooka like IRL. NOv 42....US ARMY. biggrin Although most where with PAtton in the rear being tested on tank hulks with goats. But some got up to the front....where they got catured by Germans and reverse engineered into panzershrek. Which is why you do not introduce weapon untill availible inlarge numbers.

Well until Graviteam starts making a game or DLC depicting battles in late 43 or 44 I'm not even concerned about the Panzerfaust in this game.
