It's always nice to be able to pay the bills. It's also nice to have a large, willing team of testers across a variety of hardware setups and operating systems as you move towards your GMC.

They only have one seed on a torrent. Once I get it, I'll stay up as long as possible.

Can the download be paused and resumed? Or does the PC have to be always on in order not to cancel an incomplete d/l?

Also, are there working tutorial missions in the Beta?

torrent downloads are very flexible, its a peer-peer download so as long as seeders are around, you can pick up your download where it left off.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Major DCS: A-10C Warthog Announcement - 10/04/10 11:35 PM

Just wanted to mention that this is still a beta version.

Do NOT expect a 100% polished product.

If you know what to expect from a beta, fine. Otherwise it might be a good idea to wait for the proper release.

Just a word of warning before the forum is flooded with "WTF??! xxx isn't working/is missing" posts.

I can confirm that the TM HOTAS Warthog is plug and play and works great. TIR works with the 32 bit version but since NP hasn't developed 64 bit drivers for TIR, the TIR doesn't work with the 64bit install of DCS A-10C. The work around is during install, click the "install 32bit files" and launch the 32 bit exe until NP brings the 64 bit drivers.

Oh and there is a full manual too!

This is great news! But one thing, will the FINAL version get rid of having to RUN the simulation under FULL ADMIN? I do not see the need to do so unless it is sloppy programing by the developers.

That's what I would like to know.

I think I'll pass on the beta as I usually find it frustrating and would prefer to wait for a finished product. I'm happy about what they've done because I think it will really help them with finalizing the product.

Happy flying everyone!

Surprised others were able to download all 4 parts so quick. Guess I'll have to wait a day or two til the panic downloaders are done. reading

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Major DCS: A-10C Warthog Announcement - 10/05/10 07:52 AM

Dear ED,

THANK YOU sooo much for releasing the manual. It's helping alleviate the rampant anticipation that is gradually taking over my life.

I have read:
- the A-10A flight manual from cover to cover
- anything and everything I can find on the internet on flying CAS
- searched at my local library for A-10 related material
- purchased 'Warthog: Flying the A-10 in the Gulf War' by William Smallwood (AWESOME read!)

and I was running out of ways to get my A-10 'fix'.

Looks like I'm sorted for the weekend!

Just to note if you install to anywhere other than c:\Program Files (eg c:\Warthog) this is not an issue.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Major DCS: A-10C Warthog Announcement - 10/05/10 02:24 PM

Jocko, no need for that. The "additional" 32 bit installation isn't a full install anyway, just a couple of additional files and not very large in terms of MB.

My rig circa 2004 had a P4 3ghz. my LT (till I build my new rig soon) has a core 2 duo 2.4. Maybe I should have kept the old rig...

Seeding now.

Also, kudos to ED for ADMITTING that they are releasing beta quality material. ::shoots a look at FSX and Arma II::

This is how it should be done smile

BTW, I can't wait to get a printed manual.

And now I'm off to install this years gift to simming!

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Major DCS: A-10C Warthog Announcement - 10/05/10 03:27 PM

Guys, the raw GHz rating of a processor is NOT equal with its performance.

More modern CPUs perform much more 'work' per cycle, enabling them to easily outperform older CPUs with a nominal higher GHZ rating.

A Core2Duo @2.4 GHz is actually quit a bit faster than a P4 @3GHz.

^ I was only kidding about keeping the old rig. That said, with that C2D @ 2.4, 3 gigs of ram, win 7 64bit, and an 512mb nvidia 8600GTm, I'm only playable at absolute lowest settings (minus the res, which I have at 1680x1050). FWIW, it's still a great looking game at those settings. Only had time to play about 20 seconds on quick mission though, lol. Mg G940 throttles were mapped to pedals and Aileron (I hear real hog' pilots have that issue all the time) so my flights were...eventful, if not breif.

-PS. I'd love to hear what people are getting on ATI 5770 and 5850 cards, I'm trying to decide if the 5850 is worth double the price of the 5770.

You know that you can easily overclock that CPU? Also, if you are looking into buying the new card just for DCS, you better invest the money in a stronger CPU, as you are most likely being bottlenecked by the latter.

On my Dell XPS 15 laptop? Maybe if I ran it from my freezer...

And the new rig will be based on an AMD Phenom X4 965. Going to order parts this week. I'll probably just man up and get the 5850, so I can have Civ V and Arma II look all pretty like.

TrackIR does not currently work with the 64 bit version of DCS:A10 because NaturalPoints software does not support 64 bit....so you have to either run the 32 bit version of DCS:A10 or wait for NP to come out with 64 bit software.

Woohoo!

Am downloading with mytorrent. In the first five minutes it only downloaded at 20kbps, now at ten minutes in it is already downloading at 150kpbs. 10 hours to go, should be there when I wake up tomorrow morning :-)

Thanks so much for the info regarding TrackIR and the 32-bit/64-bit version. I'm a bit surprised to hear that the 32-bit version is just "a couple of small additional files". Will the 64-bit version not run much faster on my rather fast computer?

Just downloaded the manual. O.M.G.!!! - It is 653 pages! And the first part of it is just a great history book on the A-10! Amazing, talk about a STUDY SIM. This one looks to be epic.

If you run the 32-bit version, TrackIR works just fine (and I haven't noticed any significant performance difference between the two). I asked Natural Point and Vincent G from tech support directed me to this thread.

I haven't actually found a performance difference between the 64-bit and the 32-bit versions so far.

I run the sim in 32-bit mode (using Win 7 64 bit) and TrackIR without problems.

If I want it to run 64bit, can I install it in the Program files (x86) or I must install it in the normal Program Files ?

(right now its installing in (x86))

its ok to run it in a separate Program files (x86)it will
run better; if you clicked on the box for 32bit install the
64 bit .dll files are automatically placed in there as well so
you will get both icons one with the x86 which is 32bit and
one thats the regular icon which would be the 64 bit version.

Is the answer to the above question yes? And will this option to pre-order still be open by this Saturday Oct-16th?
Thanks
