2 different Radeon graphics cards, only 1 works at a time - 10/10/13 06:37 AM

Hello All,

I have been running a Radeon 78XX card with eyefinity on 3 screens just fine.
I want to add another monitor for the extracted mfd's.
My 78XX has 3 ports and they are all used so I added a Radeon 48XX and another 22" monitor hooked to it that I had laying around and no joy.

I am not trying to crossfire, just use the 2nd card for the mfd's.

In the device manager it shows both the cards but one has the yellow caution symbol/exclamation point on it and has an error Code 43.
If I disable one and reinstall the drivers in the reverse order then the other card will get the Code 43 and the other one will work just fine.

I tried the BIOS and switched the initial card to verify that both cards and PCI-E slots work and everything is fine.

Any suggestions would be great!
Thanks

I think that you can't run 2 graphics card simultaneously and independently without Crossfire, but I can be wrong.

I seem to remember one of the BMS guys using his video card to push the screens, but used his on-board GPU for the instrument monitor.

Ok check this out...

After HOURS of playing around trying to get this stupid thing to work (including emailing Gigabyte back and forth checking to see if my gigabyte mobo would even support dual cards running in parallel) I thought 4 the fun of it i'll try a different card other than the 4850.

Bought a cheap $30 5000 series card and installed it.......nada.
After a little crying i started at it again trying to figure this out.

After all of the driver enable, delete, reinstall, update driver blah blah blah win7 finally quit even recognizing the 7850 and in the device manager started calling it a standard VGA!
After attempting to turn the computer into an Air-to-ground Maverick this is what I did:

Downloaded a program from amd's site that removes all amd stuff off the comuper including drivers. AMD Uninstall.
Downloaded and installed the latest (not the beta) CCC suite that included the latest driver for the HD7850.
After 197MB download it started to install. I noticed it started installing microsoft c++ redistributable, framework 4.x and some other things before it started to install the CCC stuff. When it was finished and rebooted......

Wait for it.....

IT WORKED!!!

all 4 monitors including 3 i set up for eyefinity. I put the 2 mfd's on the 4th monitor and works great.
Windows now, even without me doing anything, recognized all 4 monitors in the screen resolution setup. Didn't have to do anything there.

Now that its working i'm going to pull the 5000 and put the 4850 back in and see what happens.....stay tuned.
