MSFS add-ons

MSFS add-ons - 01/08/21 12:51 PM

Might as well start a thread for the mighty MSFS and it´s 3rd party add-ons which Iam sure will grow to be big!

I´ll start with a free add-on...

FSPM VFR Map:
FSPM VFR Map download site

It´s a free moving map with a handy teleport function. Map integrates into your top menu with no other app needed. You can still use your GPS map.

Enjoy!

Re: MSFS add-ons - 01/08/21 03:20 PM

I use Little Nav Map.

It's free, comprehensive, and links to MSFS in beta build (unless that changed recently and now it's in main build). Very handy to have a real-world map on the other monitor, also shows you a terrain profile visualisation too so you can see how close to the hills you're going to get. Also it's pretty good for navigating around an airport.

Re: MSFS add-ons - 01/08/21 06:40 PM

A small one I'd recomend is
https://github.com/kaosfere/msfs-toolbar-nohandle/releases
It stops the tool bar handle from keep appearing at the top of the screen whenever you move the mouse.
the tool bar will still appear when you want it to by moving the mouse to the top of the screen though.

Re: MSFS add-ons - 01/08/21 08:16 PM

Thanks both. Yes I have Little Nav Map in use with P3D, will have to try with MSFS.

Not a big fan of Carenado, but they seem to have gone the "better" way with MSFS. The Mooney M20R Ovation is a atractive package for analog single prop GA...

Detailed performance mid page:

No stall/spin characteristics but not sure if that is a MSFS thing for now.

Re: MSFS add-ons - 01/10/21 01:51 PM

Are there any add-ons that show frequencies of ILS and VOR on the fly?
I really miss that feature from FSX, I'm normally in the air before I remember, if I there's something that doesn't involve searching on my phone it would be great.
There have been a couple of flights recently where I've been caught in 0/10 visibility, had to pause the game search the frequency for an ILS approach in VR with an icing windscreen. Very intense I have to say.

The first post of this thread shows the FSPM VFR Map free add-on. This basically is like SkyVector´s map...

On min8:17 you can see a detailed view of the map as would be with SkyVector with it´s radials/nav-aids/VOR´s etc...

You can also check Little Navmap (also free):

SWS (Sim Works Studio) Zenith CH701 STOL has been update to version v1.10...

SWS Support:

SWS Zenith CH701 STOL version history

There´s seems to be a issue (on my end) were your MSFS installation path (if different) is no excepted by the Installer. Just choose the default MSF installation path. Even if you did install your MSFS on a different drive, MSFS creates a default path on your C/: drive with links to your choosen installation drive, so it will still end up on your choosen Installation path.

Glad they fixed this cool STOL AC thumbsup

Nice.

I´ll wait a bit so they can iron out whatever bug lefovers remain. While I don´t have a clue as to if MSFS will have working armament in the long run, I do wish it does at least in the air. Might as well have ground targets and AA too biggrin

Couldn't resist this one ... also waited until the first patches were out before jumping behind the stick. Nice flight dynamics but my engine management sucks, I keep blowing the engine which results in a weird thing where the boost goes up and down from zero to full boost randomly. Pretty sure that isn't intended. Nice liveries tho and enjoy flying over the new London scenery in a Spit. Dover still sucks tho ... those green cliffs! Yuk.

Re: MSFS add-ons - 12/21/21 01:55 PM

I am a bit skeptical TBH. Rex put out there weather engine at the beginning of this year, and now we know Asobo is working on a In-game real time weather engine, so as I said, I am not to sure about this one either.
Posted By: DM

Re: MSFS add-ons - 12/21/21 02:23 PM

I didn't try the Rex engine, but I did watch as many reviews as I could to be sure that what I suspected I saw was the case: although the Rex engine might be locally more accurate, it seems to apply the weather universally and with a quite harsh transition, meaning if it's stormy locally then it's stormy to the horizon, and a move into a new weather system means the weather just changes, you don't move into it.

Whereas the native weather seems to have cells of weather, so you can see a stormy weather cell in the distance and move into it.

I definitely prefer slightly more inaccurate but distantly visible weather to universally applied accurate weather.

Re: MSFS add-ons - 04/14/22 06:46 AM

My list of indispensable addons:

AirForce Player
https://directinputmanager.com/airforceplayer/
Adds force feedback support! Free!
Not quite as good as FSForce was for FSX as it doesn't appear to simulate trim forces, but it makes flying smaller aircraft so much more enjoyable.

FSFO Next
https://flightsimfirstofficer.com/downloads/
Been using the freeware version since the days of FSX. The payware version is adapted to specific aircraft.
This adds a virtual first officer who can perform checklists, set up aircraft systems for each flight phase, handle gear and flaps, etc. Since the "co-pilot" function in MSFS is practically useless, this is really nice to have when flying more complex aircraft.

FSRealistic
http://www.fsrealistic.com/
Adds camera vibration and sound effects, similar to A2A's Accu-Feel for FSX. Highly customizable. 7 day free trial.

PMDG´s site was overwhelmed yesterday due to traffic. It´s alright now and you can buy the 737-700 now with out the traffic Issues.

From what I understand...

PMDG has released the 737-700 yesterday at a sale price of $69.99. They will be releasing the 600 In June, and the 800 around August. Which means they are not going to offer expansions to the base airframe like they did In the past. Each plane will have It´s own cost, so If you want the 800, you will have to wait for It´s full release this summer, and the 900 later on In September.

PMDG´s site Is back to normal and there was no delay In my order with regards to the activation mail as some have experienced. It does take a long time to load the first time you use the 737-700, you do get a prompt telling you so. It must have been something like 8min. so be patient. Looks and feels great BTW. There are some free livery's In the PMDG Operations Center too.

Nice Slug, enjoy thumbsup

I hope we get a DC-9 In the likes of what Coolsky did for FSX/P3D, I really enjoyed It back then. If not, the MD will fit the hanger someday. I am enjoying the Flysimware Cessna 414 AW, It´s In Beta but In a pretty good state for now. I am using It with the PMS 50 GNT 750 premium.
