Trim controls

Is there a way to trim the Ka-50 without the chopper trying to auger into the ground and murder you?

Easiest way I found was to hold the trim button down get the the heading you want then release the trim button ...

My problem is I press the button and the helo immediately tries to kill me.

the Trim button should dis-engage the dampener,but shouldn't do anything else... stupid question have you got anything else set up with the trim button in the controls settings

That usually happens when you fight the damper. What happens when you don't work the damper the way it is intended to is that it fights against your control inputs trying to keep some attitude, then when you trim its input suddenly vanishes and you get (seemingly) uncommanded cyclic inputs.

What worked best for me is to always let the platform stabilize before releasing the trim button. If your attitude is changing and you release the rim, the AP will try to keep the attitude the platform had when you released. So suppose you want to enter a turn:

Press and hold trim, apply cyclic input to enter the turn, only when your bank angle has stabilized, release the trim button. You can trim for a turn too, that is not a problem. Above a certain turn rate, the AP will try to maintain that turn rate. When you come out of the turn, again first press and hold trim, apply cyclic to negate the bank, when you're stable at 0 bank (and no turn rate, because of what i said before) release the trim.

The trick is to make the AP work for you, not against you. Once you understand how the AP works, it becomes a remarkably stable platform. Alternatively you could fly in flight director mode (i think that's what it is called) with only dampers and no AP stabilization, but IMHO you are trading away a lot of hands free goodness.

Well it seems I was operating under the assumption that pressing the trim button engaged the trim and pressing it again set the trim. Press, release, and immediately recenter the cyclic. Got it.

And I don't have anything else bound to the button I bound for trim.

I do know that if you trim the controls right in EECH, you can basically let go of the stick. It seems it will work this way in Black Shark when done right.

with the shark if you use the auto-hover and auto-route it can fly itself with no hands on controls .. leaving you free to concentrate on the shkval... searching for targets

I think I've gotten it down actually. Like in EECH it is something I won't trust completely. However, I played with it and was soon doing to Dslyecxi style flying around the buildings by Batumi Airport.

The difference in the flight models between EECH and Black Shark is very apparent. I definitely need to practice having a light touch on the cyclic unlike the heavy handling and constant pressure demanded by EECH.

when re-setting the trim, ensure the stick is pushed\pulled to the same position you had it in when you originally set the trim.

For instance, you have a 15degree forward pressure on the stick and have set the trim yet released the stick. The stick it will hold the platform at 15 degrees regardless if you release the stick back to center.

Releasing the trim with the stick centered results in a instance nose up and in some cases, greater than 15 degree with 75% cyclic....a reset of trim pressure may result in blades touching and breaking off.

When I fly the KA, if I am going to center the trim, I make sure I have forward pressure in the stick to counter-balance for the trim reset rather than having a centered stick. Depending on what you use FB\Warthog etc, always ensure you have some forward pressure before resetting trim.

I think I have the trim figured out. Went for a nice flight around Las Vegas last night.
