RoF graphics settings

RoF graphics settings - 03/01/13 02:58 PM

Fired up RoF for the first time in over a year...all my graphics settings were reset...trying to remember what everything does and the game now runs choppier than I remember.

What are some things that kill fps? I have sound setup to 128 and high settings...is that too high? What do you guys run for graphic settings to get good eye candy and solid fps? Thanks.

Super Sampling AA, forest distance, for onboard no more than 48-64 probably, as well as the shadows and draw distance.

Be sure to try the Multi GPU setting even if you do not have multi GPU. It can double your FPS in some cases.

The real killers are super sample (though I can run this after the multi GPU option is checked).

Reflections and shaders then become the settings to change to improve things.

Forest distance too, as stated earlier.

I run on triple screens and the forest distance really eats FPS for me, reflections do nothing really to FPS for me except when over a lot of water... Shaders do make a big difference, especially when close to the ground with that extra bump detail.

Supersampling is an FPS killer. Forest distance just isn't worth the FPS loss either when set to high.

Here something from the MASTER himself [=Vik] :
Most FPS hit is:

- reflections - maximum reflects way more things + it turns on high quality cubemap, so for the first test - turn it to high;
- shadows quality - mostly effects on memory usage - so as you have 2gb vid card - you can set em on max;
- most affective FPS thing - is AA and Super Sampling, and as we have such system in office and ive run lots of tests on it (i7 2700K + CF 6970) - dont turn SS with AA more than 2x.

In short - set all things to high, exept SS and AA (tese two will kill any non CF-SLI system when you near the deck), then try to set SS + AA 2x - if youll got good FPS - thats what you need

You won't need to as the combo of SS and AA 2x gives you a nice sharp picture - NO jaggies.

Thanks guys. I'll test those settings. What does "light sources" do? Do you guys crank that at 20 or have a lower number?

Thx, that increased my FPS by 50-100% whoohoo

Is there and drawbacks by having SLI enabeled although I run on single GPU?
If not, this is simply amazing woot

How do you show your fps in RoF?

no drawbacks at all to Multi-GPU use. Enjoy.I find it hard to believe everyone does not try it. Give super sample a try now... no more terrain shimmers.

You may get a slow down near clouds. Reflection and shaders will help with that.

I just Fraped Super-Sampling 2x AA & Multi-GPU and got a +11 FPS boost. wink

Good to hear, Barkhorn. Isn't ROF great with Super Sample? smile

I never saw any slowdowns going to 8x either.

All that talk about settings for maybe a 10% gain and there are people who don't even try this for a 50-100% gain. I guess it may not work with all GFX cards.

This is in the friggin ROF manual and ROF vets know about it. Why am I the only one who seems to share this?

Well, this is what the manual states:

"This setting when turned on loads special multi-GPU optimizations for ROF that increases performance. This setting can be used with a single GPU, but may cause stutters. We suggest only using this setting with multi-GPU setups."

So I'm guessing that, like me, folks w/ single GPUs kept away from it. But now I'm glad I checked it.

BTW,SS is great as if you like SHARP and hate SHIMMER, try SS - it looks great.!

Jason posted this over at the ROF board a few months ago.

I also Turn on Triple Buffer and Maximum Performance for vid card power management setting.

Again, this is in the Nvidia settings, not in game. For in-game settings I use 8x AF and 4x AA.
