First flight around I chose in an F-15C... expect a long taxi taking off from DXB...

Nice! And thanks for including the frame counter - nice to see the performance.

Yeah, the performance is really good. And the map itself is awesome. Had a quick flight in a Harrier today - great fun wink

Note to self: never, ever, fly with damson :-)

So I downloaded it tonight. Took about 2hrs to download over gigs and gigs of sand.

Took my trusty F-86 up and ... very nice! Looking forward to the hornet next week!

I think he should upgrade to 64Gb ram to meet 3.0.0 (stable) requirements for heavy missions. Maybe 128Gb will be required during open beta though, but check before buying.

Don't know... just constantly think I should upgrade something...

Maybe the screen? I was thinking of getting Occulus rift now the price is down...

This is what I use it for:
DCS
ARMA
Jane's F18
BOX/CLOD
Falcon BMS
CAP2
EECH

Hehehe... I guess you're like me, getting upgradeitis after a while. Luckily everything seems to be insanely expensive nowadays and I've upgraded my rig to good standards so not much to upgrade on. smile Maybe when the new nVidia cards comes out and if they have good performance numbers in relation to what I have now.

What's your display setup like?

Just some more Eagle shots....

You mean Nvidia and DCS settings?

Re: DCS Persian Gulf is really nice! - 05/29/18 07:00 PM

No, I meant monitor, but then I realize you mentioned you had a 27" 1080p setup. Maybe consider a triple-screen setup? Or a dual-screen setup with the second one for instruments? Maybe make it a touchscreen so you can use Helios on it? Your GTX 1080 should be able to handle that just fine.

What about a larger screen, any benefit? Or higher resolution and lower FPS?

Flying the Ka-50 around Dubai was fun until I smacked into a building full speed...

Larger screen is good but only up to a point. Once you increase resolution, FPS decreases, so I'd rather "pay" for a wider FOV rather than increase resolution for details I may not notice, although some people claim 4K screens allow them to tally earlier.

One thing that can help combat the FPS decrease is running less AA. I was running 8x or 16x on most titles at 1080, but generally run it completely off at 4k, and I do generally see more details, yet still get a nice smooth image free of 'jaggies' and shimmering. I'm on a 32" monitor that sits about 3 feet away from my face. Where this really pays off is in the cockpit; I can zoom out more, but still make our crisp details on gauges and MFDs.

Still, you'll need a decent video card to handle the pixels. The only easy day for my 1070 was yesterday smile

Be warned, though the DCS GUI is a PITA at 4K, and the "GUI scaling" option seems to bork the F10 Map view ( a critical asset to 'cheaters' like myself smile ). I haven't tried in the more recent versions of DCS, but it was like that as of ~6 months ago.

This game needs 8GB RAM minimum for low graphic settings and 16GB minimum for heavier missions while still on low graphic settings. High settings recommends 16GB or 32GB for heavier missions.

Surprised graphics settings have that much to do with RAM requirements; I'd have thought that mo' "graphics" = mo' video card needed, while more "stuff" in mission would require more RAM and CPU.

The theory at this point is poor coding by ED thus the surprise requirements. It doesn't seem to help that it seems to have caught ED by surprise as well! biggrin
