Re: X-Plane 11 - 11/24/16 02:33 PM

Been thinking very seriously about getting X-Plane lately.

I do have quite a bit invested in FSX though.

Re: X-Plane 11 - 11/24/16 03:31 PM

I'm pretty sure I am going to take the plunge. I preferred the feel of X-Plane but found the whole interface kind of clunky. That issue is fixed with XP 11 and now we also have VR support with the help of FlyInside..

Got my digital download key and downloading now. Tried the demo first. Going to take 68gb
for the entire earth scenery. Just going for North and South America for now. Will install
the rest later.

It's very shiny. JR CRJ seems to work so far.

The atmospherics and lighting look much improved.

But I do not understand why they didn't overhaul the cloud/weather system. It still looks like crap.

It takes years of updates to refine every X-Plane update. 10x was no different, this is just an early Beta 1
release. Having been a part of the X-Plane movement since 1999 and version 5.2. Patience is all that is needed.

And always keep your installer updating to fix the issues as they are corrected.

Is the full game out? Or just the demo? I'm confused.

Re: X-Plane 11 - 11/26/16 01:23 PM

Full flight sim is released in Beta 1. If you pre-bought digital Download.

Or you can try out the demo.

Re: X-Plane 11 - 11/26/16 05:40 PM

So far I like what I have tried out. The entire planet is huge place to explore.
Testing old sceneries and planes. Couple of shots from my morning tests.

Taking off from Jackson Hole heading for Cody Wyoming.

MD-80 taking off from JKF. New York city scenery works great.

Re: X-Plane 11 - 11/26/16 07:07 PM

I've tried the Beta and so far impressed! I have three screens for display and it was a pain to set up for FSX to the point that I just played single-screen and just used the other screens to chat with other pilots and surf the web.... while flying.

TM WH and Saitek pedals got recognized straight away, although the "defaults" were wrong. Also the obligatory "dance" of setting the toe brakes...

So what's the difference between the demo-demo and the full-package-demo? Just the a few airports vs. the entire world? AFAIK, the aircraft are the same.
Posted By: JimK

Re: X-Plane 11 - 11/26/16 08:04 PM

Demo only includes a couple exclusive airport scenery areas, where is the full version
you get it all. I downloaded the entire planet scenery 68gb. Then you can add on your
own photo sceneries.

Can someone show me in Xplane11 CYQB please?

Maybe one close top down view and one on the threshold of the 24 looking at the terminal?

Would be appreciated
thx

seems that in Flight sims, In Canada, if you're not Toronto nor Vancouver, you're not worth time to be well made....

I use XP10 so I'm aware of how it works.

But there's basically zero chance they are going to change the fundamentals of the clouds/weather dramatically now because it would require a major rewriting of the system (by their own admission). If that didn't happen before this first beta release, it's not going to happen in XP11's lifecycle.

Regardless, they'll be addons and the new lighting and how it deals with vis/horizons is worth the price of admission alone.

Here you go Genbrien. No airport buildings at CYQB unfortunately.

Works for v9, 10 and 11.

Re: X-Plane 11 - 11/27/16 06:23 PM

So have the flight dynamics changed at all? The ground handling had all sorts of problems in XP10 (I think it was caused by wind issues).

If anyone can post a few shots of upstate SC: Greenville, Easley, Pickens areas, LQK and GMU.... if these areas look reasonably realistic I will be interested in XP-11.

Thanks.

This is only the first beta release. Global scenery is not ortho. Given time it will sure get close as
those with the skills convert them over. Many programs converted google maps over to Ortho photo scenery.
So far all 160gb of mine from 10x does not work. The Airport scenery all works great and NYC. Patience
is all that is required as all of the beta testers send back their bug crash and other issues to Laminar
This will be a great sim when we all help make it work.

Your ortho should work just fine. I have the entire US and most of Europe mapped out in ortho and I'm currently using that in X-Plane 11 with no problems.

Re: X-Plane 11 - 11/28/16 06:32 PM

Turns out only the old Ortho`s I had downloaded ages ago won`t work. SimHeaven Orthos work
Fine.

Re: X-Plane 11 - 11/28/16 11:22 PM

Did they increase the autogen draw distance? Looks like it's reaching really far out.

Also, how about the anti-aliasing on distant textures? I got really bad crawling along the horizons in XP10 no matter what setting I used.

I have everything cranked up. Was using Skymaxx Pro 3.3 and had visibility set to 50 miles.

Re: X-Plane 11 - 11/28/16 11:53 PM

What are the limits for the demo? It doesn't seem to say on their web-site. Didn't 10 have a fifteen-minute time constraint before the controls were locked out?

Have no idea what Demo limits are. I only go with the full version.

Re: X-Plane 11 - 11/29/16 03:53 PM

Looks good but 68GB? Games are getting too big of a download for me to bother. Right now downloading WatchDogs2 and that is 20GB. Damn ISPs and their data caps is a crime against humanity and must be stopped.
Posted By: Paul Rix

Re: X-Plane 11 - 11/29/16 04:21 PM

It took me 27 hours to download it on my rural connection. That was just for the main program, North America and Europe. I get 4mbps on a good day. Fortunately there is no data cap though. I have been adding more regions each night while I am sleeping. Still, you only have to do it once I guess.

Re: X-Plane 11 - 11/29/16 06:32 PM

As people have been putting requests in, I wonder how my local airport and area looks like in XP11. EGNV and surrounding area please!

I think for easier reference, here are the landmarks I am particularly interested in which are immediately around the airport. I've been to these areas a good few times so I will know at least if the roads and the immediate surroundings are correct or how close to correct they are. Please take screenshots of these areas, if possible with the aircraft to the west with the shot facing east, at around 2000-4000 AGL.

The first circle (leftmost) is the intersection where I'd get off the A66 to head towards the airport. Second circle is usually where I get ON the A66 when heading for the airport. Third circle is another common intersection and is now closer to some buildings. Last circle is a very familiar area and should be easy for me to identify. The spot with "Hobbycraft" is a large retail park and is quite visible from the air and I'd be very much impressed if the terrain/scenery would include it.

Any help appreciated!

It is indeed. Though, it's one of the older planes, so modelling, cockpit textures and everything isn't completely up to snuff.

Re: X-Plane 11 - 11/29/16 09:50 PM

Yep, that is one tough plane to fly at high altitudes. I lost control at 65k and it went into
a flat spin. No way to regain control. Must have stalled at speed.
