How Can I Make My Graphics Better for F-15?

I have a Pentium 4, 2.0 mhz, Radeon 8500 Video and am somewhat disappointed with the scenery graphics while flying my F-15. The cockpit looks very good, but the land and airfields are not too good as my other (newer) flight sims. In the options of the game I have everything turned up. Although I cannot check in the 3Dfx. Why is that? Any suggestions? Thank you.

Basically, F-15 is a Glide game. Glide is like D3D except it worked exclusively with 3Dfx cards, Voodoo 1-5. At the time of release, 3Dfx had a huge market share and Glide was the best API on the market. The 1.17F patch added D3D on a very rudimentary level. If you don't have it, get this patch. I beleive it is available in SimHQ's downloads section.
Then in your videocard options, select the highest possible FSAA setting. This will give the appearance of higher resolutions, though you will get gridlines in the water. Also try Anisotropic filtering. There is also problems with the HSI in game not showing the moving map.
This is the best you can do.

Hi,
I took your advice and d/l the patch and it looks slightly better, but now it seems to crash during the flight. Should I reinstall and not use the patch?

Thanks for the latest information. I will go to the Radeon site and see the comments. I think most of the crashes occur with the missions that I d/l from the website and not the ones that came with the sim, but am not 100% sure.Strange but before I installed the patch I had no crashes at all. I will take your suggestions though. Will they ever make an F-15 II? I remember Microprose did that with their F-15 years ago.

You can also d/l OpenGlide from the GlideDos site. It's Glide wrapper for the Direct3D API.It works well for some Glide sims, and very poorly with others. It has worked really well for me with sims like LB2 and RB3D, and I've had success with JF-15 as well, but only under Win98SE. On top of that, it's FREE. It may not work for you, but hey, what can you lose by trying it out?

As a side note, i have an old TNT2 3D card that as it is common knowledge, has some problems with JF-15 (recent detonators will screw up the FLIR, night-vision ...) but overall it works with older detonators. Still i would like to try that OpenGlide, in the hope that it might proof to be a better choice than using D3D with this game. Thanks in advance.

I can't remember the URL, sorry. Just look it up on Google which is how I found it. It's worth trying out before you throw in the towel...

Whitestar, Russkie is right. Drop the files in the JF-15 main directory and choose Glide from the graphics menu. Btw, the openGlide.ini file is tweaked for RedBaron3D and not JF-15. You may have to modify it a little.
