Vienna, 2nd rock left.
Greetz all.

Originally my idea was to go for a big upgrade in August...complete new case, Mobo, CPU and GPU.

But now I need my current GF2MX elsewhere, and thought I could start to upgrade today with replacing it.

I'm just not sure if a rather old 800 mhz AMD with a 300 W Powersupply, Msi K7T-Pro Mainboard can handle a top-of-the-line Geforce 4.

Thanxs for all answers

Howdy
I don't have a Geforce 4200,, but,,,
Most new AGP cards have a pretty hefty
voltage demand.
You will save yourself hassels
getting a bigger quality PS.
Especially if you ahve thoughts about upgrading your CPU RAM etc.

Short answer probably. I installes a vision tek Ti-4200 128mg into my Gateway 900mhz T-Bird and it works fine, I just do not achieve its full benefit until my upgrade is finished. I have all pieces except MOBO and CPU. I did have a question link below;

My frame rates are much higher now and once I get a faster processer will see its full benifit.

Should work, but the PSU might have trouble with a newer high end card. If it does, then you will need to swap it out.

Good luck.

Last weekend I replaced my v5 with a msi g4 4400. I am running a 300 watt ps and am having no problems what so ever with my system. My reason for doing so was the graphics problems in n2002 could only run in d3d, opengl was a no go because of the lack of a full opengl icd. Was using the wicked gl in il-2 and it worked well but was not where it should be fps wise. I am running il-2 maxed at 1024x768x32 and it screams and looks good, and everything is fixed graphics wise. I can say though that the fsaa was better on the v5 which is going back into its orginal setup so I can still play the older glide games I still like to play.

k7t266 pro2 ru, xp1700+, sb live plat, 2x30 gig maxtor 7200rpm raid 0, g4 4400, globalwin cakII 38, 512 megs ddr ram, dual boot win98se/xp pro, I also run 2 hdds ide, one 52x cd and a 8x4x32 cdr and 6 case fans (which were already installed on the case which is a super flower aluminum-mg alloy). If the ps is good it should work just fine. As always just my $0.02.

Such a long long time to be gone, such a short time to be there.
