I would take that date with a proverbial 'pinch of salt' \:\) If anything it's the addon (incorrectly named) that we are waiting on.
If it was SH4, then what a marketing @#-up! Considering it would be *only* 4 months until release and no news anywhere bar play.com

I would say, considering that SH3 has starforce I would think it is a pretty sure thing that SH4 will also have it.

If it is only a addon for SH3 then it will not need starforce as it will be installed into Sh3 anyways.

Then, unfortunally I will not buy it!
It's a petty since these SH lastest series are really awesome but I simply refuse to have Starforce installed on my PC.

JP,
It is as much about the community as it is about the games \:D It is also about letting the publisher know that we will not buy the product. Will they listen, most likely not, however, there is always the small chance that they will. Silence on the subject means acceptance of Ubisofts decision to continue to use StarForce.

What makes StarForce situation all the more comical is that my mate today informed me he had bought back the non starforced copy of SHIII. It only stops me from making a legal backup of my own software, so should the disk fail I must buy it again.

However, back to the StarForce issue. I will NEVER buy a game with this product. I have not re-installed SHIII since revuilding my PC about 5 months ago.

Am I cutting off my own nose despite my face, no. There is a moral issue here in that my system is being compromised and as mentioned, I am being denied my right of 'fair use'. Yes I will deny myself the experience of playing possibly a brilliant game, however, that is something that I can accept.

When I beta tested the last patch I used a spare PC that I have and will use for any future review that includes starforce product or any other simular one.

JP, this is not directed at you, but is in answer to your question.

BTW, did we get SHIII fixed up? No, we still have a Tiger Tank damage model for the u-boat, incomplete Aircraft, Merchant and Escort AI, incomplete and broken crew management, no real minefields, no overarching AI to act as a 'coastal command', incomplete escort AI.

Cheers,

Teddy Bär

One of the stupidest things in game design is the lack of uncertainty given to the player

"beatings will continue until morale improves" brought to you by Ubisoft DRM!

There's enough starforce posts running in this forum, we don't need another hijacked post...sigh
If the dev's haven't got the answer now then they never will and you guys 'make your choices', that's cool but please leave threads that are NOT titled 'Starforce.....etc' alone for some folks to read in peace

We're waiting for an addon, what that contains as yet we don't know fully? -neither what it will address.

The mods have told folks that don't have issues with SF to jump out of threads that people are having issues with -in no uncertain terms.

Do you not think it fair to offer that same consideration to people that are having FUN playing the game and NOT having SF issues that want to discuss THE game and it's future in NON-StarForce entitled threads?

It works both ways.

Please guys give some of us a 'tiny' bit of space to ourselves

No, I will not stop posting against Staforce!! The matter here is that I like SHIII very much but I simply refuse to have Starforce installed on my PC (as I stated before). And since I would like to play and buy SH4 (if it doesn't come with Starforce THAT IS!!!) I will do everything at my range to presure UbiSoft to drop Starforce on SH4 and using these forums is one of the very few ways to achive this!
Like Teddy Bär said, the most probable thing to happen is that UbiSoft will not care about these posts but if people don't buy Starforce protected products than you can be sure that they will certainly drop Starforce! And finally at least I tried!

So if you want to undestand this and stop posting against people who in their right don't want a product (starforce) that messes up and damages their PC's than fine, if not then SCREW YOU!

Seriously, the Starforce crap gets old and this is NOT the place to wage a boycott campaign against Ubisoft. What would lead you to believe that is a fair use of this forum is beyond me.

Starforce sucks. Ubisoft knows it. We know it. Ubisoft probably especially thinks it sucks, seeing as they have to pay money to Starforce to use their copy protection system. I'm sure Ubisoft would rather not give money to Starforce, but obviously piracy sucks WAY more than Starforce for everyone concerned. Posting the same statements over and over again isn't going to change a thing.

ricnunes, typicaly you've flown off the handle as soon as you got to the one word 'StarForce', the mind goes blank and you go off on a rage without even reading the post. How easier could i have wrote it?

This THREAD has NOTHING to do with StarForce ok,Silent Hunter 4 Now which part of that headline mentions StarForce???
It goes from 'mention of an addon/full product' to YOU twisting it!
There are bloody dozens of StarForce threads stretching from Community Hall to here!

YOU get OUT of a thread that has **NOTHING** in it's topic title with StarForce. By all means blow your top in a dedicated StarForce thread but for christ sakes LEAVE it out of every thread that mentions anything to do with SH3!!
I'm pissed off at replying and reading any thread here that you guys turn around to suit yourself -that YOU want to hear.

Ric i think it's you that stops hijacking posts like this, or can't you see (or more likely can't stand) that some folks actualy have FUN..
What is wrong with this forum lately? ...anybody asks a simple question/thread: "If it's got StarForce in it i'm not buying it!" get's thrown in your face....**REGARDLESS** of the topic matter..

20mm is dealing with StarForce issues for you guys, what more do you want? ...sheesh

Well I will be buying SIlent Hunter 4 or any other add on for Silent Hunter 3...I love the game. I would hope for a Pacific theatre this time. US Submarine operations are the most obvious but maybe the ability to go a Dutch submarine or even a Japanese sub...even if only in single missions.

Imagine trying to sneak into Sydney harbour in a midget sub...or Launching a sea plane to attack Panama Canal.

Agreed, I would love to see the pacific as the next addon for SH3 or even as a new version (SH4)

I still have Silent Service II \:\)
(2 1.44 floppies) \:D

I think it's fairly clear the addon will continue to focus on the Atlantic theater, whilst SH4 will be dedicated to the Pacific. There's too much content for a PTO scenario to have it be released as a simple addon.

That sounds great, addon to finnish SH3 and then SH4 for the pacific (hopefully it can be merged into SH3)

If you're not against Starforce, you are part of the problem.

Ummm SF aside, you must not be aware of all the brilliant mods out there that deal with most of these issues. What is wrong with the AI? Seems pretty competent (or incompetent at the start of the war). Crew management is ok, again it can be modded.
