I can assure you that none of the character names listed on the Yahoo Movie site are the same as those of the real Volontaires Americaines who flew with French Esc N124 (Lafayette) or even the same as the real characters I fly with in Red Baron 3d LE124th, although a few of my virtual squad mates claim a certain similarity of appearance to the more handsome actors...
If you are interested in the real history of N124, try this link to our website:
http://www.le.ezhost.nu//cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1136596107 Books I recommend on the subject include Bert Hall's book, both of James Norman Hall's books, Thenault's book, the Osprey Publications book on the LE and Malloy's history of the LE, plus a variety of other bits here and there over the years:
Herbert Malloy Mason Jr _Lafayette Escadrille_
Georges Thenault _The Story of the Lafayette Escadrille_
James N Hall _High Adventure_ & _Falcons of France_ (with CD Nordhoff)
Osprey Publishing (Jon Guttman) _SPA 124 Lafayette Escadrille_
Bert Hall _One Man's War_
Aaron Norman _The Great Air War_
Speaking of BOOKS AND Red Baron 3d, my buddy Colslaw (ÅB¹Colslaw, Flt/Cdr_RO) illustrated a new book on the LE that should be out in a couple of weeks, about the Nieuports flown by the Escadrille Americaine/Lafayette Escadrille. Written by Jon Guttman with input by Alan Toelle. It is timed to coincide with Flyboys hitting wide-screen release. The camouflage patterns in it are quite different from what has been seen before, but they have colour photos as well as their written descriptions, not just the usual "it's always been shown this way' type of stuff.
