Looks pretty cool. Interesting that I didn't see anyone playing the role of Raoul Luffbery though.

theres a pdf on the site where I saw this...

-Are the character’s names the real names of L.E.
pilots?
The only real name used in FLYBOYS is that of Capt. Georges Thenault (Jean Reno). However, the distinguishing qualities of the other characters are taken directly from those of the actual pilots. For example, the role of Reed Cassidy(Martin Henderson) is directly inspired by the real-life Raoul Lufbery- a revengedriven
loner who became the squadron’s highest-scoring ace. He died in a suicidal gesture during combat, jumping from his burning plane.

I can assure you that none of the character names listed on the Yahoo Movie site are the same as those of the real Volontaires Americaines who flew with French Esc N124 (Lafayette) or even the same as the real characters I fly with in Red Baron 3d LE124th, although a few of my virtual squad mates claim a certain similarity of appearance to the more handsome actors...

If you are interested in the real history of N124, try this link to our website:
http://www.le.ezhost.nu//cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1136596107

Books I recommend on the subject include Bert Hall's book, both of James Norman Hall's books, Thenault's book, the Osprey Publications book on the LE and Malloy's history of the LE, plus a variety of other bits here and there over the years:

Herbert Malloy Mason Jr _Lafayette Escadrille_
Georges Thenault _The Story of the Lafayette Escadrille_
James N Hall _High Adventure_ & _Falcons of France_ (with CD Nordhoff)
Osprey Publishing (Jon Guttman) _SPA 124 Lafayette Escadrille_
Bert Hall _One Man's War_
Aaron Norman _The Great Air War_

Speaking of BOOKS AND Red Baron 3d, my buddy Colslaw (ÅB¹Colslaw, Flt/Cdr_RO) illustrated a new book on the LE that should be out in a couple of weeks, about the Nieuports flown by the Escadrille Americaine/Lafayette Escadrille. Written by Jon Guttman with input by Alan Toelle. It is timed to coincide with Flyboys hitting wide-screen release. The camouflage patterns in it are quite different from what has been seen before, but they have colour photos as well as their written descriptions, not just the usual "it's always been shown this way' type of stuff.

Think it will be as good as The Blue Max? That was a good movie, but I have it on DVD and seen it so many times I can't hardly watch it anymore.

This looks like it might be okay. http://www.redbaron-themovie.com/

Watched some footage of the filming and they actually have Richthofen's red Albatros. That's a good sign, in the popular mind he always flew the red Dr1.

I am delighted to hear they'll have planes other than the Dr1. The RED Dr1. I bet the sets, aircraft, flying and CG combat will be great - probably better than that in The Blue Max.

That's mostly what I'm looking forward to. The rest will depend on the script writer's ability to give the actors something to work with. I never thought much of the plot in The Blue Max, so Flyboys probably will be an improvement (to me).

We'll just have to suspend our historical disbelief, the same as we must with most other movies. I bet Flyboys will be great fun and one for the DVD collection.
