I have a Dell 8250 computer with 512mb rdram, 128mb ddr ati radeon 9700 tx video card and a Soundblaster live 5.1 sound card. My OS is Windows XP which is, I think, the problem. I have The Glidos patch installed, along with the Full Canvas Jacket CD and upgrade. HA super patch installed also. Every time I run RB3D I CTD or hang aftere mission completion.
I have tried to run Task Manager to delete unnecessary applications. There are no applications shown as running, but there are oodles of processes running. What processes are the important ones? Ain't no mention of "SYSTRAY" in the processes files, so, I don't know what to shut down. Every time I start shutting down processes, I shut down my computer. Oh, for the good ol days of Win ME. Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks

Von Higgin, a post over on the Hell\'s Angels Forum might pay dividends. I had a similar problem (look under Trouble tickets) and suffered a pretty horrible PC crash. They were very helpful and a bit of prevention now might save you some nasty problems.

S!
I don't care what anybody else says - NEVER run UOP's together!! Use separate installs for each.
FCJ has the XP fix for it's use.

Have you edited the OpenGLid.ini file as needed for RB3D use?
What, exactly are your System's Free Resources (right-click MyComputer - Properties - Performance
- something like that)? Mine's 95% \:D
I find that keeping the TASK BAR (the bar with START on it) clean helps a lot. Each icon/program in there likely has a "tick box" for "display/don't display on Task Bar".
To bring you up to date on RB3D related terminology: GLIDOS is an incorrect term - we use a small part of it as an "OpenGL Wrapper", or OGL would be understood for the purpose. I mention this because the people at GLIDOS were a little angered at our use of the term.

Thanks for the suggestions. It'll give me plenty of new work arounds to try to get this infernally addictive game up and running properly. Since we have a major snow storm arriving in a couple of days, I'll have plenty of time to mess around.
Free system resources are at 95%. I did edit the Open glide ini. file but am thinking of increasing TextureMemorySize from 4 to 8 or 16; and FrameBufferMemorySize from 16 to 24.

FrameBufferMemorySize is already maxed at 16.
increasing TextureMemorySize robs room for other memory needs - you may want to try 2 to 8, but the settings as recommended have already been found to be the best by much experimentation by many RB'ers.
There are also several versions of the wrapper which are usable for RB - 0.07b4 is the most used, but other versions work better for some machines (0.09rc5 or something like that).
I'll look them up fer ya and you can try 'em and see if one works better for your machine.
In the meantime, have a look here:

Finally got Red Baron 3d and FCJ with associated upgrades to work. Did a reload (no loss of campaign since I was never able to complete a mission due to CTD) and set graphics up for direct draw. (1280x1024) Landscape and planes are somewhat pixellated but she runs just great. At least I know the problem is OGL. Wished I could find the right combo of settings to make game work, but until then, this'll do.
