Maybe this is old news, but I think I have another fix for the black/moire tiles that appear sometimes with the new PL terrain and the Glide wrapper.

I used DeltaK's redux128 patch and this solved the problem for me for a long while, but I was disappointed to see the black terrain tiles starting to show up again last night. Don't know why this started again so suddenly. The redux patch has dramatically reduced it but it seems it's still there sometimes.

So, in mission, I right-clicked the screen to bring up the little menu, and changed the graphics res from 1024x768 to 800x600, and voila, the tiles were back to normal. Immediately changed again back to 1024x768 and the black tiles stayed away.

Minor nuisance having to fiddle but it worked for me.Worth trying if you get a black tile attack.

The only remaining anomally I get is that layer cloud sometimes shows up as flickering "pie slices". Have not tried fiddling around as this is rare and not a big prob.

This is the same with the old 'zebra' tiles that used to show up. The fix was to limited textures to 2mb. This was with the voodoo cards. The black tiles it seems are the same thing but with the glide wrapper.

There were several fixes psoted here somewhere about how to edit the glidos files to do basically the same thing. Dig around and see if you can find it or hopefully some one that trolls this board more than I has the notes and can brief you.

My issue is that the sound disappears on me all the time after the first play is over and that I tried to fix with every fix posted but still no go.

Oh well.

Ivor, I too had the problem with graphics corruption under glidos with the PL UOP add on when running at 1074 x 768, even with the redux128 modification installed. I changed to 800 x 600, and all the corruption disappeared...

I think I'll leave it at 800 x 600, and be happy...

Hi Moondawggie

I've stayed at 1024x768 since I found I could revert back right away without the black tiles coming back. They've stayed away so far, so I'll stick with the better res unless it looks like a more frequent problem. I don't run FSAA as frame rates are not so good at times with it enabled, so the higher res helps.

Ivor, I tried your suggestion and darned if it didn't work! I don't know why, but I'll take it!

It's pretty cool the way this game has been improved by the modders like Kess, DeltaK, and Von Helton, not to mention the geniuses who developed Glidos.

IMHO, along with EAW, it remains the among the very best of the flight sims.

Well, it's off to the front again in my Sopwith Pup for an offensive patrol. With von Richthofen and Werner Voss now out of the picture, it's getting a lot safer up there.

If I recall correctly, with the first PL patches and the 'zebra' terrain tiles, you could CTRL + ESC back to the desktop, then re-enter the game and the corruption would be gone for the duration of that sortie. It was a sort of 'resolution refresh' if you like.

It worked for me
