Install SHII on a PC connected via ADSL Router and STARFORCE was installed.

Installed SHIII on a stand alone PC and STARFORCE was not installed.

Any ideas why and the significance of the STARFORCE?

Is it okay to disable the STARFORCE drivers via
devmgmt.msc ?

Very interesting, may be hope in me buying this title afterall. Can you confirm this again? If its a simple matter of pulling out your DSL cable while installing and playing I may grab it yet.

Ivan, have you tried running SH3 on your standalone crate and checked for Starforce afterwards?

I installed SH3 while not connected to the net and checked afterwards-no Starforce;
BUT when I first tried running it, it prompted me to reboot for completing copy protection and then, Starforce was installed again;

without Starforce, you wont be able to run SH3 and will have to reinstall!

best regards
BL

Hey Ivan \:\)

You're lucky that Starforce let you install at all Mine took some "subtle" negotiating with Starforce Customer support to get working.

Starforce is the protection software, on my PC its installed as a hidden device driver so you may not see it but it is there. SHIII will install it again if you remove it and won't start without it (unless you're a ).

Disable it and see what happens, I suspect you'll get an error or Starforce auto-reinstalled.

Hob. I have found the Hidden Star force entries via devmgmt.msc. They are there on the desktop (ADSL connection) they are not there on the Laptop. In both installs I did not install Game shadow.

After install on the laptop it did ask for a reboot. It runs just fine.

Now the only diff between the Laptop and desktop is that laptop is XP SP@ and the desktop without SP2.

Bizzare mate.

I have them on my Desktop SP2 install (ver 1.xx and 2.xx). You ticked "show hidden devices" in the view menu right? (can't recall if that was or wasn't a feature pre SP2...).

If it works I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Hobnail, I checked the "errors" thread at the SH3 forum and saw you in there, you got it going by dealing with starforce and getting another cd number is that correct? I sent mine back...now I think I'll get another one and try again, still really dissapointed with Ubi's response (and I use the term in the loosest possible sense) so far, old ubirazz or whatever his name is at the forum seems to be doing nil in terms of support, I'm concerned that by the time I get another one the starforce site will be swamped with support requests!
