Good review of precision stike fighter. Consumer beware....

If your going to rehash an old sim take a classic that defined a generation of sims and update its graphics port to current day status so it will run with the latest operating systems and graphics cards. Longbow 2 gets my vote.

I personally think that an upgraded LB2, with newer graphics (can we finally say trees) and decent support for the more advanced 3d cards would get my money.

I still play LB2 after all these years and although 40 bucks may be much I would certainly pay 25-30 for an updated version of one of my favorate sims.

Just me though

Hell, call it Longbow 3 if they want. I would buy it for sure. And I would certainly pay $40 for it seeing how it doesn't nearly have the issues that Hornet Korea appeared to have.

Hmmmmmmmm...
No, I got a better idea.

It's called: let's make Longbow 3. Xicat has the license for Janes. They just need...well decent titles to go along with it.

Allegedly there has been an interest in kicking Jane's A-10 out the door (pure speculation here folks). Let's say we took that graphics engine, and the AI and so on, and then grabbed the sounds and so on from LB2, and built flyable AH-1, AH-64A, AH-64D, WAH-64D, Tiger, UH-60, Kiowa, and uhm, Mi-24 and KA-50 choppers...and combined it all?

Or we could call it
"AH-64D Precision Attack Helicopter"

Update the graphics, make it run on current hardware, toss in an extra campaign (Flash Point Korea anyone) and I would say that $39.95 is not too much. There is a sim worth putting the effort and time into in my opinion.

Gavin - Xicat was able to obtain the license to use the Jane's moniker, but I'm not sure at this point what deals they've worked out to acquire the code/materials for the old Jane's/EA library.

Their deals so far have been with Jane's (for rights to use the Jane's name) and also with a receivership who had the rights to the Attack Squadron code. EA I'm not sure at this point is in the loop (as they weren't the receiver), but I could be wrong. If EA is indeed in the loop, then Xicat may have the opportunity to release products based on the old Jane's titles such as LB and A-10. I just hope that Xicat doesn't turn into a chop-shop where they update the old code to run on new computers and resell it as-is. If that happens, word will get out and they won't sell well.

Obviously I'm concerned from a genre standpoint - good titles bring exposure and resulting sales to our genre. Bad press and sales drive sales away :-(

Hiya Eric.

Damn straight. However, from what the Xicat website are saying about "Xicat will continue the excellent heritage of military games left off from Electronic Arts with titles already in the pipeline that will accurately and fully capture the realism and drama of military conflict." would suggest to me that titles like A-10 may potentially be in the offing.

However, A-10 was, if i remember correctly an internal EA product (produced by Origin) and so may not be up for grabs.

But certainly, a title like Longbow 3 has a LOT of expectations and baggage associated with it.
